Carl Burnett
MCLEANSBORO -- Carl Lee Burnett, 88, died at 4:52p.m. Sunday, June 20, 2004, at home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 23,2004, at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro, with the Revs. Robert Abbott and John Lee Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the Smith Cemetery near Dale. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Lucille Thornton
ENERGY -- Lucille Thornton, 88, of Energy, died at 11:35 p.m. Saturday, June 19, 2004, at Parkway Manor in Marion. Lucille was born on May 26, 1916, in Marion to Eldon P. and Lydia Candis (Norman) Odum. She married John Thornton on April 18, 1951, in Arkansas. He survives of Energy. Mrs. Thornton, along with her husband, formerly owned and operated Thornton's Market in Herrin prior to their retirement. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Energy. Survivors include husband, John Thornton of Energy; son and daughter-in-law, Johnie L. and Marty Thornton of Herrin; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Bob Stricklin of Marion; son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Joyce Watson of Herrin; eight grandchildren; Russell and Jennifer Watson Jr. of Herrin, Steve and Kathy Watson of Herrin, Sheree Watson of Indiana, Debra and Steve Dingrando of Marion, John Allen and Denise Murry Jr. of Energy, Bryan and Amy Thornton of Columbus, Ohio, Chris Thornton of Herrin and Angela Thornton of Herrin; 10 great-grandchildren; niece, Leana Odum of Marion; and nephew, Raymond McCormick of Marion. Her parents; first husband; Russell Watson, infant daughter; Delores Mae, four sisters and three brothers preceded her in death. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, 2004, at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. The Rev. Don Colson will officiate. Entombment will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today, June 22, 2004, at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Thelma Fowler
MARION -- Thelma W. Fowler, 101, of Marion, passed away at 3:05 p.m. Saturday, June 19, 2004, at Heartland Regional Medical Center of Marion. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home of Marion, with Pastor Victor Long officiating. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery of Marion. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or other organization of the donor's choice and mailed in care of Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, P.O. Box 370, Marion, IL 62959. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Albert E. Carlyle
SPARTA -- Albert E. Carlyle, 49, died Saturday, June 19, 2004, in Arkansas City, Kan. Services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 21, 2004, at Blessing Heights Church of God-Apostolic Faith in Arkansas City, Kan., with the Rev. Floyd Saffell, Pastors Jack Adams and Tim Smith, and Bros. LaDell Elliott and Jess Fisher officiating. Interment was in the Riverview Cemetery in Arkansas City.

James Larry
OLMSTED -- James Larry, 82, died at 3:15 p.m. Monday, June 21, 2004, at home. Arrangements are incomplete at Crain Funeral Home in Ullin.

Lloyd Fowler
JOHNSTON CITY -- Lloyd Fowler, 52, of Belleville, formerly of Johnston City, died at 10:10 p.m. Friday, June 18, 2004, at his family home. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today, June 22, 2004, at Murman and Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City. There will be no funeral services. Per his request his body will be cremated at a later date. Lloyd was born on Feb. 3, 1952, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of J. L. and Wanda (Canaan) Fowler. He has been with His loving partner Darlene (Lawrence) Absher Conner for 24 years. She survives. He was a self-employed contractor and a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation. He graduated Ottumwa High School in 1970. He is survived by his parents of Ottumwa, Iowa; two sons, Travis L. Fowler and wife Patty of Hobart, Ind, and Matthew Absher and Jennifer of Shiloh; four grandchildren, Danielle, Austin, Gage, and Cole; one sister, Diana Barnett and husband Steve of Ottumwa, Iowa ; one brother, David Fowler and wife Cindy of Hurst; two nieces, Tami Lee Fowler, and Lori Lee Fowler; four nephews, Craig Barnett, David Barnett, Toby Barnett, and Cody Barnett; numerous other nieces and nephews; a father-in-law, Lester Lawrence and Lucy of Johnston City; a sister-in-law, Edna Frost and husband Randy of Overland Park, Kan. ; a brother-in-law, Robert Lawrence and wife Donna of Johnston City; a sister-in-law, Elaine Helms of Johnston City; a sister-in-laW. Janada Schaubert and husband Tom of Johnston City; a close friend and hunting buddy, John Arnold; and many other close friends and hunting buddies. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Amy Absher Daughenbaugh and a sister-in-law, Donna Cullum.

Stanley 'Barry' Konneker
MURPHYSBORO -- Stanley B. 'Barry' Konneker, 68, passed away at 4:09 p.m. Friday, June 18, 2004, at Oak Grove in Carbondale. His body has been cremated. Private services will be held at the family cemetery. Pettett Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. He was born on Feb. 28, 1936, in Carlinville, to Stanley Oscar Konneker and Julia Adelle (Barrick) Konneker. Mr. Konneker is survived by one son, Clayton Barry Konneker; two brothers, Gregory P. Konneker and Douglas Konneker; three sisters, Carolyn Hallbauer, Martha Jean McCormack and Judith Hilst. He was preceded in death by his parents. Stanley Konneker was a classicist in his enjoyment of music, art, architecture, food and drink, and almost anything made of wood. 'Barry,' as known in this area, was a serious jack of all trades. A craftsman whose professional work ranged from the most basic repair tasks to those involving fine restoration. His several personal collections reflected his appreciation for the functionally beautiful and he was adept in the use of the array of tools and materials used in his activities. born and raised on a family farm, Barry was a veteran of the U. S. Army, a budding archeologist with studies in the formal program at Southern Illinois University and an amateur linguist. He will be missed.

Mary Travelstead
MURPHYSBORO -- Mary Rado Aydt Travelstead, 92, of Murphysboro, died Monday, June 21, 2004, after a month-long illness. She died peacefully in the home of her granddaughter, Kirsten Miller, of Carbondale. Mary Rado was born March 20, 1912, in Dahlgren, to Rufus and Laura (Irwin) DeWitt. She married Charles 'Cy' L. Aydt on Feb. 17, 1931. She and her husband owned and operated a grocery store in Dahlgren, from 1945 until 1960. They then moved to Elgin, where they were both employed at the Elgin Mental Health Center. Charles 'Cy' died on Jan. 20, 1962. Mary continued working at the Elgin Mental Health Center until her retirement in 1976. Mary Rado then moved to Carbondale, where she met and married Edward H. Travelstead. They were very active in square dancing and traveled extensively until his death on Oct. 1, 1980. Mary Rado was a graduate of McLeansboro High School and later received an associate's degree in mental health from Elgin Community College. She was a member of the University Baptist Church, the Retired State Employees Association, and the AARP. She served for many years as a volunteer with the Good Samaritan House in Carbondale, where she was also a board member for four years. Mary Rado was a loving and inspirational role model for all generations of her family, and she will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughter, Wilma Messersmith of Lincoln, Neb. ; her sons, Dr. Roger Aydt of Silverdale, Wash., and Stanley Aydt of Carbondale; her granddaughters, Sue Wilkerson of Elgin; Dana Pratt of Lincoln, Neb.; Kirsten Miller of Carbondale; Nicole Klein of Edwardsville; Hilary Aydt of Bloomington, Ind. ; and grandsons Roger Wilkerson of South Elgin, Chris Pratt of Spring Creek, Nev.; Frank Pratt of Lincoln, Neb. ; Greg Aydt of Seabrook, Texas; Brian Aydt of Astoria, Ore. She is also survived by 23 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her two husbands; her daughter, Audrey Wilkerson; and her grandchildren, Randy Wilkerson, Mike Wilkerson, Mark Pratt and Valerie Evans. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 24, 2004, at Huffman-Harker Funeral Home in Carbondale, with the Rev. Sam Foskey officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Odd Fellow Cemetery in Dahlgren, following the service. Memorials may be sent to Shriner's Hospital for Children, 2001 S. Lindbergh Blvd. St. Louis, MO 63131; or Hospice of Southern Illinois, 1110 North Johnson, Marion IL, 62959.

Hazel Lampert
SHAWNEETOWN -- Hazel Louise Lampert, 88, died at 12:55 p.m. Sunday, June 20, 2004, in Fountain View Nursing Home in Eldorado. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown. Burial will be in Westwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
