Nancy J. McClury
Nancy J. McClury, 70, of Carpentersville, died Wednesday, April 17, 2002 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin. She was born in Chicago on June 20, 1931. She was the daughter of Edward and Seminole (nee Hetherington) Peterson. She was a many year resident of the Carpentersville area and a member of the Faith Lutheran Church of Carpentersville.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel; a daughter, Stacy (Karl) Kelly of East Dundee; a son, Greg (Sue) Lazenby of Huntley; four grandchildren, Christina (Doug) Freund of Lake In The Hills, Benjamin (Mary) Kelly of Carpentersville, Stephen Lazenby of Cary and Nora Kelly of East Dundee; a great-grandson, Derek Kelley of East Dundee; two sisters, Betty Peterson of Elgin and Joy (Jim) Adcock of Hazelcrest, IL.
She was preceded in death by a son and a daughter in infancy.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, April 20, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. in the Faith Lutheran Church, Carpentersville. The Rev. Bruce W. Meissner, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Windridge Memorial Park cemetery, Cary. Visitation will be on Friday, April 19, 2002 from 5-9:00 P.M. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee and on Saturday in church from 10:30 A.M. until time of services. Memorials may be made to either the Faith Lutheran Church of the Salvation Army.

Fern Phillips
Fern Phillips, 92, of Elgin. passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at Sherman Hospital, Elgin. Born October 8, 1909 in Round Lake, IL, the daughter of Paul and Carrie Wyzard Krepel. Member of Elgin VFW Auxiliary 1397.
She is survived by two sisters, Henrietta Peters of Texas and Viola Horn of Elgin; also a brother, Harold E. (Angeline) Krepel of Elgin.
preceded in death by her parents, husband, Norman, a sister and a brother.
Funeral service Friday, April 19, 2002 at 1:00 P.M. at Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St., Elgin. Burial Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. No visitation.

Bernard G. Pilcher
Bernard G. Pilcher, 94, of Elgin peacefully went home to be with the Lord on April 15, 2002 at the Carrington Care Center, South Elgin. He was born September 28, 1907 in Milan, Missouri the son of Nova and Jeanette Clark Pilcher.
He was a member of the Elgin Bible Church and in the past had taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and served as an elder.
He is survived by his wife, Selnia Yarnell Pilcher with whom he would have celebrated 62 years of marriage on June 28, 2002; son, David (Jean) Pilcher of Dover, Ohio; three grandchildren, David (Jenna), James (Lorri) and Elizabeth; two great-grandchildren, James and Ruth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, James Yarnell Pilcher in infancy and Philip Charles Pilcher in 1990; two sisters, Ruth Cook and Gayle Pilcher; one brother, Harold Pilcher.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 20, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be private in Irving Park cemetery, Chicago. Visitation will be held Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.

Albert A. Schroeder
Albert A. Schroeder, 87, of Willow Lake Estates, Elgin, formerly of Sleepy Hollow, died Monday, April 15, 2002 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. He was born in Chicago on July 8, 1914. He was the son of John C. and Barbara (nee Gloeckle) Schroeder. Mr. Schroeder was a 47 year employee of Walgreen Drug Co. where he designed their restaurants. He was a member of St. Catherine Of Siena Church, West Dundee.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virginia A. (nee Kiolbasa) of Elgin; two daughters, Cecelia (Ron) Klimek of Ingelside, IL and Bonnie (Calvin) Meltesen of Schaumburg; a son, Albert A. Schroeder, Jr. of Elgin; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John, Arthur and Raymond; two sisters, Florence and Bernice.
Funeral mass will be on Friday at 10:00 A.M. in the St. Catherine Of Siena Church, West Dundee. Burial will follow in the St. Michael The Archangel cemetery, Palatine. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-8 P.M. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee and on Friday in church from 9:00 A.M. until time of mass.

Sally R. Silagy
Hampshire - Sally R. Silagy, 33, of Hampshire passed away Monday, April 15, 2002, in Downers Grove.
She was born September 9, 1968 in Elgin, the daughter of Allen and Ann (Talley) Schmidt. She was a 1986 graduate of Hampshire High School and had been employed for 14 years by the Illinois Tollway Authority.
Sally married Mike Silagy on January 14, 1995 in Las Vegas and assisted him in the operation of Hampshire Auto Works.
Surviving are her husband; her 4-year old daughter, Morgan Jane Silagy; her parents, Allen (Nedia) Schmidt of Elgin and Ann Talley of Hampshire; a brother, Dave (Sue) Callahan of Elgin; a sister, Ruby (Mike) O'Brien of Marengo; two nieces, Briana O'Brien and Amanda Callahan and a nephew, David Callahan.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Samantha Marie.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at the St. John's Lutheran Church, 7007 Northrop Rd., Union, with the Rev. Norman S. Meyer officiating. Cremation will follow services.
Private family visitation will be held on Friday at the Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire.

Samantha Marie "Sammy" Silagy
Samantha Marie "Sammy" Silagy, 6, of Hampshire, passed away Monday, April 15, 2002 in Hampshire.
She was born March 27, 1996 in Hoffman Estates, the daughter of Michael and Sally (Schmidt) Silagy. Sammy was a member of the Kindergarten Class at Hampshire Elementary School and truly loved school, animals, and playing dress-up.
Surviving are her father, of Hampshire; sister, Morgan Jane Silagy; grandparents, Larry Silagy of Ottawa, Allen (Nedia) Schmidt of Elgin and Ann Talley of Hampshire; Uncle Dave (Sue) Callahan, Aunt Ruby (Mike) O'Brien and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Betty Jane Silagy.
Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. Saturday, April 20, 2002 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 7007 Northrop Road, Union with the Rev. Norman S. Meyer officiating. Cremation will follow services.
Private family visitation will be held on Friday at the Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park Street, Hampshire.

Columbus G. Totten Jr.
Columbus G. Totten Jr., age 58 of Memphis TN., passed away on April 15, 2002. He was a member of Stuart Hill P.B. Church of Holly Springs, MS. He was employed by Griffens, Inc. of Byhalia, MS.
Columbus is survived by his sons, Phillip Totten of Aurora, Ali Totten and Christopher Totten, both of Elgin; his daughters, Rochelle Totten and Annette Totten, both of Aurora and Ashyia Totten of Elgin; his step-daughters, Lavonda Majestic of Las Vegas, NV. and Consuela Floyd of Cincinnati, OH; his parents, Alberta Totten and Columbus Totten Sr., of Memphis, TN; his sisters, Lillian E. Jones of Maryland, Beulah Ashby and Eula Johnson, both of Memphis, TN; and his brothers, M.L. Bayford of Byhalia, MS, Edward J. Totten Sr. of Holly Springs, MS.
Funeral Arrangements are incomplete at N.J. Ford & Sons Funeral Home, Memphis, TN.

Rice Whitfield
Rice Whitfield, of Elgin, died April 14, 2002 at Rosewood Care Center.
Loving wife, Alberta Whitfield and family will have services at Second Baptist Church with Rev. Edmon officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Bluff City cemetery. O'Connor & Homeier Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements (847) 741-1400.

Raywin "Ray" Robert Zimmerman
Raywin Robert Zimmerman, age 85, of Elgin, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 15, 2002, after a valiant, yearlong struggle following a severe stroke.
He was born August 14, 1916, in Algonquin, Illinois to Charles and Martha Bremmer Zimmerman. He lived in Elgin since childhood and was employed by the Elgin Watch Case Company for 18 years and the Elgin Metal Casket Company for 25 Years, retiring in 1980.
Ray served his country during World War II in the Third Army, 69th Signal Battalion, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a part of Gen. George Patton's "Ghost Corps" and was present at the liberation of Nazi Death Camps in Germany. He later became a member of the American Legion Post 57.
He met the love of his life, Marjorie Kassien, at his going-away party before entering boot camp. Much of their courtship was by mail. They were married on December 5, 1942 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, when Ray was home on leave. They would have celebrated their 60th Anniversary this year. Their first daughter, Judy, was born while Ray was in Europe. News of her birth took a month to reach him, and he did not meet her until she was two years old.
After his retirement, Ray, along with his wife, was an active volunteer, delivering "Meals on Wheels", and helping with mailings at Lutheran Bible Translators in Aurora. He was a charter member of Calvary Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir for many years. He loved gardening and often supplied family and neighbors with fresh produce. He also loved fishing with son, Jeff.
Ray was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, with a strong faith in the Lord, and a deep love of country. He laughed often and loved to sing. He will be sorely missed.
Surviving are his loving wife, Marjorie, who cared for him throughout his illness; three daughters, Joyce (John) Allyn, Jenell (Craig) Rud of Elgin, Janice (Robert) Christ of Oregon, IL; one son, Jeffrey Zimmerman of Oconomowoc, WI (both formerly of Elgin); six grandchildren, Cynthia and Wendy Allyn, Aaron and Nathan Rud, all of Elgin, and Edward R. and Angela Christ, both of Hampshire, IL; also two brothers, Harold "Chief" Zimmerman and Freadom (Florence) Zimmerman, both of Elgin; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers and four sisters; and his daughter, Judith Zimmerman Burren, in 1989.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 18th at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church, 534 N. McLean Blvd., Elgin, with Rev. Richard Balles officiating. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Calvary Lutheran Church, Oconomowoc Developmental Training Center or the World War II National Memorial.

Russell E. Bookman
Russell E. Bookman, 66, of Carpentersville, died Monday, April 14, 2003 at home. He was born February 26, 1937 in Marietta, OH to Ralph A. and Bessie P. (nee Lane) Bookman. He had lived in the Carpentersville area since 1955, a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Carpentersville. For the past four years he worked for the Regis Salon in Spring Hill Mall.
He is survived by two sisters: Darlene (Ralph) Duvel of Lake of the Ozarks, MO, Verma Vogel of Salem, IL; two brothers: Arthur (Nancy) Bookman of Elgin, Gerald Bookman of Genoa. Good Uncle to Lisa Zudis, Jerry Bookman, Kevin Duvel, Christine Duvel, David Vogel, Dale Vogel, Cheryl See and Kristina Bookman. Great Uncle to several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Lowell and Robert Bookman and one brother-in-law, Tom Vogel.
Funeral Services on Friday at 1 p.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Burial will be private. Visitation is from 11-1 p.m. on Friday. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

William M. Chittum
William M. Chittum, 89, of Watseka, IL passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2003. Born December 23, 1913 in Grant Park, IL son of John Chittum and Lelia Weeks. Navy veteran of World War II. married to Mary A. Peeler, January 23, 1937.
Survived by four nieces, Jane Lawson of Elgin, Nancy (Stan) Varness of Peoria, Pat (Russ) Ball of Watseka and Lelia Miller of Torrence, CA; and several great-nieces and nephews.
preceded in death by his wife, Mary A. Peeler; two brothers and two sisters.
He was employed at International Harvestor as a sales rep for 42 years; member of First United Methodist Church, Watseka; Watseka American Legion; Watseka Lions Club; Watseka Elks Lodge; Masonic Lodge; and Warrior Booster Club; former member of Shewami Country Club; honorary member of the Watseka Community High School National Honor Society. He was the recipient of the Watseka Times Republic Lifetime Achievement Award in 1994. He enjoyed all boys and girls scholastic and athletic events. He was an avid Cubs fan; enjoyed bowling, curling and golf. He was known to everyone as "Uncle Bill".
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at Segur-Knapp Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. Dr. Joe Scheets and Rev. Hubert Lytle officiating. Visitation 4-8 p.m. Monday. Interment Kankakee Memorial Gardens, Kankakee, IL. Graveside Rites by Watseka American Legion Post #23 and V.F.W. Post 7450. Memorials to Watseka Warrior Booster Club; Iroquois Memorial Hospital or Donor's choice would be appreciated. 815-432-2406
