Bernard G. Pilcher
Bernard G. Pilcher, 94, of Elgin peacefully went home to be with the Lord on April 15, 2002 at the Carrington Care Center, South Elgin. He was born September 28, 1907 in Milan, Missouri the son of Nova and Jeanette Clark Pilcher.
He was a member of the Elgin Bible Church and in the past had taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and served as an elder.
He is survived by his wife, Selnia Yarnell Pilcher with whom he would have celebrated 62 years of marriage on June 28, 2002; son, David (Jean) Pilcher of Dover, Ohio; three grandchildren, David (Jenna), James (Lorri) and Elizabeth; two great-grandchildren, James and Ruth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, James Yarnell Pilcher in infancy and Philip Charles Pilcher in 1990; two sisters, Ruth Cook and Gayle Pilcher; one brother, Harold Pilcher.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 20, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be private in Irving Park cemetery, Chicago. Visitation will be held Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.

Simon H. "Smitty" Schmitt
Simon H. "Smitty" Schmitt, 62, of Elgin, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2002 in his home. He was born November 11, 1939 in Bad Axe, MI and was the son of John and Frances (Helewski) Schmitt. Simon was a Veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. He worked as a Pipefitter for Temperature Maintenance Corporation and Precision Mechanical Incorporated for many years prior to his retirement.
Member and past Governor of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #799. Member of the American Legion Post #57. Member of the Pipefitter' Union #597.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Hartman of Elgin; four children, Patricia De George and Karen Valdez, both of Elgin, IL, John (Kim) Schmitt of St. Charles, IL and Richard (Sheri) Schmitt of Ballwin, MO; six grandchildren, Nina, Marie, Ricky, Christina, Daylatta and Austin; a step-son, Charles (Dawn) Hartman of Fox River Grove, IL; step-daughter, Julie Hartman of Milwaukee, WI; three step-grandchildren, Cherise, Ja'Sha and Ja Corey; a sister, Helen (Lon) Decker of CA; brothers, Carl (Joan) of CA and Jim (Irene), Bernard, Frances and John, all of MI; also many close family and friends.
preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2002 at 7:00 P.M. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be private. Visitation will be on Saturday from 4:00 P.M. until the time of services in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Ronnie E. Stines
Ronnie E. Stines, 40, of Elgin passed away Thursday, April 18, 2002 at Good Samaritan Medical Center, Downers Grove.
He was born October 30, 1961 in Asheville, NC.
He was employed by Lunt Manufacturing Co., Inc. in Hampshire.
Surviving are his wife, Adelina Montes Stines; four children, Adrian Stines, James Stines, Chad Sheridan and Matthew Sheridan; two step children, Alan and Isaac Rodriquez; his mother, Geraldine Palmer of Sioux Falls, SD; his father, Curtis Lawson, Sr. of Concord, Cal; three sisters, Kim (Jeff) Patten of Hartford, SD, Beth (Jason) Blockowitz of Alendorf, Iowa and Debbie Lawson of Sioux Falls, SD; a brother, Curtis (Cristie) Lawson of Sioux Falls, SD; and a special cousin, Bobbie Hall of Bartlett.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday at 1 PM at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin.
Visitation will be held Friday from 5 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

George L. Vesely
George L. Vesely, 70, of Dundee Township passed away Thursday, April 18, 2002 at his home surrounded by his family after battling cancer. He was born at St. Anne's Hospital in Chicago on July 16, 1931. He was the son of Ludwig and Lila (nee Stupka) Vesely. He was a many year resident of the Dundee area.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marcela L. Groebner Vesely, whom he married on November 24, 1956 in the First Congregational Church of Elgin; four children, Linda (David) Armintrout of Effingham, IL, Jeffery of Algonquin, Lee Ann (James) Fisher of Roselle and Gregg (Jennifer) of Arlington Heights; seven grandchildren, Jeanice and Joseph Armintrout, A.J., Benjamin and Henry Fisher and Luke and Matthew Vesely; a brother, John (Jean) Vesely of Schaumburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be on Sunday at 3:00 P.M. in the First Congregational Church of Elgin. The Rev. Lois A. Bucher will officiate. Burial will follow in the Burlington Township cemetery, Burlington. Visitation will be on Sunday in the church from 2:00 P.M. until time of services. The Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee, is in charge of arrangements.

Rice Whitfield
Rice Whitfield, of Elgin, died April 14, 2002 at Rosewood Care Center.
Loving wife, Alberta Whitfield and family will have services at Second Baptist Church with Rev. Edmon officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 19, 2002. Burial will be at Bluff City cemetery. O'Connor & Homeier Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements (847) 741-1400.

Robert A. Berke
Robert A. Berke, 30, of East Dundee died Saturday, April 17, 2004. He was born in Elgin on June 20, 1973. Bob was a life long resident of the Dundee area. He worked in the construction field as well as being a great cook. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, West Dundee. Bob was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his mother, Joyce (nee Brockner) Berke of East Dundee; his brothers, Steve (Donna) of East Dundee, Tom (Lori) of Elgin and Jim (Heidi) of Lincolnwood, IL; his sisters, Margo (Don Boe) Berke of Edgerton, WI and Karla Berke of East Dundee. In addition to many nieces, nephews and friends, Bob is also survived by his companion, Gina Rose and her children, Josh, Tyler and Zach of Algonquin.
He was preceded in death by his father, Neal; and a sister, Paula in infancy.
Funeral Services will be on Wednesday at 11 AM in the First United Methodist Church, West Dundee with Rev. Eun Hye Choi, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5 to 9 PM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee and on Wednesday in church from 10 AM until time of service. Please omit flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, West Dundee.

Christopher R. Fielder (Hayward)
Christopher R. (Hayward) Fielder, 19, of Elgin passed away Friday, April 16, 2004 in Elgin, IL. He was born August 16, 1984 in Elgin, the son of Richard A. Fielder and Carolyn (Hayward) Williams.
Chris was a 2002 Larkin High School graduate. He was active on the LHS Golf Team and Baseball Team. Previously he was working construction and his father was teaching him the carpentry trade. Chris was also currently studying auto-mechanics and welding at Elgin Community College and working as an apprentice mechanic. He was a loving son, brother, step brother, uncle and grandson. His smile and happy personality will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his mother and step father, Carolyn (Mike) Williams of Elgin; his father, Richard A. Fielder of Rockford; two sisters, Christina (Marc) Engberg and Venessa Fielder; two step sisters, Jenifer and Alexandra Williams; his grandparents, Don and Marie Hayward of Elgin and Sam and Bonnie Fielder of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by three aunts; and two cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 21 at 10 AM in the Highland Avenue Fellowship Church, 2250 W. Highland Ave., Elgin. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 8 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the National Aids Foundation.

Joseph M. Reece
Joseph M. Reece, 81, of Pahrump, Nevada, formerly of Elgin, passed away Monday, April 12, 2004 at Henderson Health Care Center, Henderson, Nevada. He was born November 6, 1922, the son of Joseph R. and Murl Lawson Reece. He had been a resident of Elgin before moving to Livingston, Texas and then to Nevada.
Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Reece of Pahrump.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at 11 AM at the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery, River Grove. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 10 AM until the time of services in the funeral home.

Joseph J. Jasica
Joseph J. Jasica, Sr., age 70, a resident of Elgin for over 20 years, died Saturday, April 16, 2005 at his home.
He was born December 3, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph C. and Rose K. Jasica. He was the owner of Elgin Beverage Company in Elgin. He was a member of St. Patrick Church in St. Charles.
Mr. Jasica is survived by his wife of 47 years, Eleanor (nee Miller); three children, Karen (Michael) Omastiak of Chicago, Kathleen (Steve) Sheehan of Geneva and Joseph (Darlene) Jasica, Jr. of St. Charles; his mother, Rose Jasica of Chicago; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Mark, Brian, Emma, Colin, Joseph and Michael; two brothers, Raymond (Jeanine) Jasica of Western Springs, Illinois and Robert Jasica of Arlington Heights, Illinois and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph C.
Funeral mass will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 22nd at St. Patrick Crane Road Church 6 N 491 Crane Road, St. Charles, Illinois. Msgr. Joseph Linster officiating. Burial will be at Prairie cemetery, St. Charles, Illinois. Visitation will be Thursday from 3-8:00 P.M. at Yurs Funeral Home 405 East Main Street, (Corner of Rt. 64 and Rt. 25), St. Charles, Illinois. Contributions may be made in his memory to Misericordia Home, 6300 North Ridge Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60660.

Erwin David Luscher
Erwin David Luscher, 65, of Elgin, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2005 in Sherman West Court. He was born July 7, 1939 in Elgin, the son of Erwin W. Luscher and Carolyn M. (Herbert) Luscher-Pierce.
Erwin was a life long resident of Elgin graduating from Elgin High School in 1958. He owned and operated the Daves Barber Shop and was treasurer of Barber's Union, Town Liquors and Northwest Liquors in Elgin. He was a past member of the Elgin Riverside Club and Anvil Club in East Dundee.
Survivors include mother, Carolyn M. Luscher-Pierce of Elgin; fiancee, Delores Jordan of Elgin; son, Jeffery D. (Sherri) Luscher of Sycamore; daughters, Lori (Bob) Graham, Daytona Beach Shores, FL, Jodi (Wayne) Hughey of Cabot, AR; grandchildren, Samantha Luscher, Jessica Carson, Brittany Briggs, Tristin and Jake Hughey; great grandchildren, Taylor and Claire Carson; sister, Kathy (Jerry) McGraw of Elgin; brother, Richard Luscher of Oregon; three nephews; one niece; and eight great nephews and nieces.
preceded in death by his father, on October 16, 1978.
Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2005 in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Martin Balzer officiating. Burial will be private.Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until time of services in the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Shirley M. Noelle
Shirley M. Noelle, 82, of Elgin passed away Sunday, April 10, 2005. She was born on March 16, 1923 in Chicago, IL and was the daughter of Frederick and Hermine (Schmidt) Noelle. Shirley had worked at the Bowes Health Center, and then Bowes Retirement Center for many years, and retiring to live there also.
Survivors include her brother, Wayne (Carol Ann) Noelle of WI; her sister-in-law, Virginia Noelle of Huntley, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Fred C. Noelle Jr.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at 2 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be private in Ridgewood cemetery, Des Plaines, IL. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 1 PM until the time of services in the funeral home.

Nora A. Shappert
Nora A. Shappert, 84, of Lakemoor died Sunday, April 17, 2005 at Victory Memorial Hospital, Waukegan. She was born October 1, 1920 in Chicago, the daughter of Gabriel and Anna (nee Hornik) Pish. She married Walter Shappert in Chicago on September 27, 1941. Formerly of Chicago, Nora had been a resident ofLakemoor since 1953. She was employed at Intermatic in Spring Grove for 25 years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, McHenry. Her family will remember her as a wonderful homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren who she called her "boys". She enjoyed gardening, and was a prolific reader. After her retirement, she enjoyed many social activities, and was a member of several senior clubs, including Forever Young and Home Extension.
Survivors include three children, Cherie (John) Stark of Waukegan, Cynthia Shappert of Wonder Lake and Jaye (David) Penoyer of East Dundee, IL; three grandchildren, Karla Stark of Camarillo, CA and Ethan and Christopher Penoyer; a sister, Irma (Verne) Dickey of Jefferson City, GA; a sister-in-law, Dolores Shappert of Huntley; many dear friends; and her beloved Shar-pei, Gus.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter on November 13, 1980; and her parents.
Visitation will be Friday, April 22 from 4 to 8 PM at the GEORGE R. JUSTEN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 3519 W. Elm St., McHenry, IL, 60050.
Mass will be celebrated Saturday, April 23 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1401 N. Richmond Rd., McHenry, IL with the Rev. Thomas Burr officiating. Interment will be at St. Mary's cemetery, McHenry. Memorials to March of Dimes, 111 W. Jackson. Ste 220, Chicago, IL, 60604 or to Easter Seals, 14 E. Jackson, Ste 900, Chicago, IL, 60604 would be appreciated by the family. Info: 815-385-2400.
