Mary West Culver Pate
Mary West Culver Pate, age 82, of Stuttgart died Sunday, May 16, 2004, at Stuttgart Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Pate was born January 24, 1922, in Stuttgart, the daughter of Mark Culver and Ruth West Howell. She was valedictorian of Stuttgart High School's Class of 1939, was a past administrator of Rose Care Nursing Home and was a homemaker. She was a member of First Presbyterian church where she was a past elder.
Survivors are her husband of 62 years, Col. Verne E. Pate, USAR Infantry Retired; a son, Tom Pate of Memphis; and two grandsons, Kyle Pate of Oakland, Tenn., and Sean Pate of Knoxville, Tenn.
An infant son, Kyle Pate, preceded her in death.
A memorial service, officiated by Rev. Tim Reeves, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart.

John L. Bell
John L. Bell of Bartlett, IL passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2005 in Hoffman Estates, IL. He was born on April 12, 1928 in Elgin, IL.
Retired 18 years ago from Elgin Beverage company he was employed for 39 years. He graduated in 1946 from St. Edward High School. John was married for 51 years.
Beloved husband of Agnes Bell (nee Sterbenz); loving father of two sons, Jim Bell and Tim (Peggy) Bell; and daughter, Mary Ann Bell; cherished grandfather of Ryan and Eric; dear brother of Thomas Bell and the late Edgar Bell.
Prayers will be held at 9:30 AM on Friday, May 20, 2005 with a mass at 10:00 AM at St. Peter Damian Church. Interment Bartlett cemetery, Bartlett, IL. Visitation will TODAY Thursday, May 19, 2005 from 4:00-9:00 PM at Countryside Funeral Home, 950 Bartlett Rd. (at Stearns Rd.), Bartlett, IL 60103.

Kathleen A. Duber
Kathleen A. "Kathy" Duber, 58, of Hampshire, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2005 on her 30th wedding anniversary in her home. She was born December 4, 1946 in Chicago the daughter of Walter and Ann (Bryla) Bold. She grew up in Chicago and was a 1964 graduate of Resurrection Academy in Norwood Park.
Kathy was a full time mom and an avid roller skater. She was a loving wife, mother and grandma, who will be greatly missed.
Surviving are her husband, Rus Duber, who she married May 18, 1975 in Chicago; her children, Rus (Christina) Duber of Harvard, Ken Duber of Poplar Grove, and Ann (Jason) Duber-Roth of Belvidere; two grandchildren, Dylan and Katelyn; and two sisters, Carol Scholl of St. Charles and Judi Colasuono of Arlington Heights.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 PM Friday at the Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 21st, at 1 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be held in the Doty cemetery in Hampshire.

Barbara Ann Peabody
Barbara Ann Peabody, 68, of Elgin, died May 17, 2005 at her home. She was born September 20, 1936 the daughter of Earle and Kathryn (Ginnell) Leitner. Barbara loved raising her children and adoring grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Windy; and three infants at birth.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Richard of 49 years, they were married February 11, 1956; a son, Richard Michael (Leah) of Houston, TX; two daughters, Maryann (Brian) Curry of Batavia and Margaret Sweat of Rockford; 11 grandchildren, Cherissa, Merissa, Megan, Mallory, Matthew, Ashley, Ryan, Dawn, Zachary, Blake, and Colton; two sisters, Linda (Marshall) Towe of TN, and Margaret (Owen) Faxon of Washington State; an aunt, Mary (Jerry) Prachar; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at the O'Connor-Leetz Funeral Home, Elgin on Friday, May 20th, from 4:00 until 8:00 PM, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Elgin with Fr. Geoffrey Wirth, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery.

James A. Seyller
James A. Seyller, 87,of New Lebanon, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.
He was born March 23, 1918 in Burlington, IL the son of Anthony and Anna (Schlick) Seyller. Jim married Antoinette C. Herrmann at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Hampshire on May 7, 1938 and they were residents of New Lebanon for more than sixty years. Jim was known as the "unofficial" Mayor of New Lebanon.
Mr. Seyller was a longtime truck driver beginning with a milk route servicing area farmers. He retired after over thirty years of freight hauling for Burren's Transfer of Elgin. Following retirement, he worked at DeLaval in Hampshire.
He was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church of Genoa and formerly of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Hampshire. He was also a lifetime member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
Surviving are his daughters, Carol (Bill) Cleveland of New Lebanon, Janice (Ron) White and Charlene (Bob) Miller both of Genoa; son, Jim (Mary) Seyller of New Lebanon; ten grandchildren, Kris (Pat) Adams of Wisconsin, Bill (Jenny) Cleveland and David Cleveland, both of Genoa, Dale (Deirdre) White and Karlene Fleming, both of Elgin, Jim (Jill) White and Cory (Linda) Miller, both of Hampshire, Jeff (Michelle) Miller of Shorewood, Douglas Seyller of Wheaton and Jennifer (Kurt) Kollwelter of DeKalb; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Watters; and a brother, Robert (Charlotte) Seyller.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Antoinette on September 29, 2003; and brothers, Richard and David Seyller.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Friday at the St. Catherine Catholic Church, 340 S. Stott St. in Genoa with Fr. Tim Seigel officiating. Burial will be in the St. Catherine Catholic cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 PM at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Genoa on Thursday, May 19.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the James A. Seyller Memorial Fund (to benefit St. Catherine's), P.O. Box 445, Hampshire, IL 60140.
The Frederick Funeral Home in Hampshire is in charge of arrangements.

Harold "Hal" F. Thurnau
Harold "Hal" F. Thurnau, 94, Bickford Cottage, Macomb, formerly of Boca Raton, Florida, died April 3 in McDonough District Hospital, Macomb, Illinois.
He was born September 18, 1910 in Elgin, Illinois, to William and Martha Dierker Thurnau. He married Margaret "Polly" Gray in 1933; she died in 1965. He married Frances Spinker in 1966; she died in 2004.
He is survived by his daughter, Sally (David) Egler of Macomb; his son, Thomas (Barbara) of Elgin; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Hal spent much of his life in the Elgin area as a club and restaurant manager. He worked for many years as the manager of the Elgin Elks Club, then managed the food service and restaurants at the Baker Hotel in St. Charles. He took over his own restaurant in Dundee, the former Swiss Chalet, now the Village Squire.
In Elgin, Hal was President of the Elgin Civic Association and attained the chair of Grand Exalted Ruler of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
He moved to Boca Raton, Florida in 1976 where he managed condominiums and apartment complexes until his retirement at age 80. He was President of the Boca Managers Association. In 2003 he moved to Macomb.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, May 21, 2005 in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial was private. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM until the time of services Saturday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Fox Valley Hospice.

Veronica M. Yurs
Veronica M. Yurs, 84, of Hampshire, passed away Monday, May 16, 2005 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin.
She was born July 7, 1920 in Hampshire, the daughter of Walter and Marie (Weber) Seyller. Veronica was a 1938 graduate of Burlington High School and was a lifelong resident of the Hampshire-Burlington area. She married Willis H. Yurs on April 19, 1942 in Tacoma, WA.
Mrs. Yurs was a lifelong member of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Hampshire and also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are her three sons, Robert (Helen) Yurs of Sycamore, Richard (Donna) Yurs of Huntley, and Rod Yurs of Hampshire; a daughter, Carol (Michael) Patch of DeKalb; ten grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Rita Seyller of Hampshire; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Yurs was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willis on April 12, 1979; a son, Ronald in 1962; and her brother, Ambrose Seyller on June 23, 2001.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 20 at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 297 E. Jefferson St., Hampshire with Fr. Joseph Nicolosi officiating. Burial will be in the St. Charles Borromeo cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire with Rosary at 3:00 p.m. and prayers and remembrances at 7:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, masses may be made in her name or memorials to the St. Charles Borromeo Church Building Fund.

Mildred L. Person
Mildred L. Person, 90, died Friday, May 17, 2002 at her home in Elgin.
She was born February 4, 1912 in Tonganoxie, KS to Matthew and Ida (Redmond) Kramer.
She was the owner/operator of Hank's Restaurant in Wheaton and later in Elgin, and was later employed for 20 years at Van's Drug Store in Elgin; she was a member of First United Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her son, Ron (Shirley) Swain of Elgin; her daughters, Sandra (Robert) Prouty of Elgin and Patricia (Joe) Fink of Westmester, CO; her brothers, Robert (Guyla) Kramer of Elgin and Woodrow Kramer of Wisconsin; 13 grandchildren; and 29 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Glenn Swain in 1943; her second husband, Henning Person whom she married on November 28, 1946 and who preceded her on October 14, 2000; two grandsons, Kevin Swain and Joseph Christopher Fink; a step daughter, Betty Jane Williams; a sister, Minnie Van Kirk; and brothers, Harold, Raymond, George, Carlos and Mike Kramer.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 20 at 12 noon at the Wait Ross Allanson Elgin Chapel with the Rev. Peter Boeve, Pastor of First United Presbyterial Church, officiating. Burial will be at Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin.
Visitation will be on Sunday, May 19 between 5 and 8 PM at the chapel.

Bertha Marie Heine
Bertha M. Heine, 100, passed away in her sleep on Saturday, May 15, 2004 at the Rosewood Care Center in Elgin.
Bertha was born March 11, 1904 in South Elgin, IL to Frederick and Marie Kobel. Bertha was the fifth of nine children born to Frederick and Marie.
She married Erwin A. Reimer January 19, 1922 and she and Erwin had three children.
She married Raymond H. Heine May 24, 1964.
After raising her children, she worked at Reimer's Wagon Wheel Restaurant on Villa St. with her son, Richard, and her husband in the 1950s. She worked for a time at Al's Hardware Store in Sunset Park Shopping Center. She worked for Fannie May Candies for thirty-five years and retired in 1989 at age eighty-five. She also did volunteer work at various organizations after retirement.
Bertha loved to travel in her later years with her daughter, and did so for many years. Together they saw everything worth seeing at least once.
Bertha also loved to fish, and she was very good at it but too modest to brag.
Survivors include her sons, Richard (Virginia) Reimer of Oswego, IL and Robert (Judith) Reimer of Elgin, IL; her daughter, Arlene Reimer of Elgin, IL; two stepsons, Edward (Alice) Heine of Hampshire, IL and Douglas (Phyllis) Heine of Chana, IL; her grandchildren, David and Susan Reimer, Bonnie and Randy Reimer, and Robin Lovejoy; her step-grandchildren, Vernon, David, Donald, Tim, and Kenneth Heine, Marilyn Becker, Barbara Heine, Jill Lammers, Diane Hauten, Mary Richmond, Nancy Heine, Linda Newman, Karen Stocking; her great-grandchildren, Brandy and Nathan Wilson and Emilee Lovejoy; one sister, Lucy Hutson of Albertville, AL; many nieces and nephews.
Bertha was preceded in death by both of her husbands; her parents; four brothers, Rudolph, Frederick Jr., Christian, and John Kobel; three sisters, Lena Berna, Mary Kobel, and Elsie Crain; two stepsons, Howard and Lloyd Heine; four nieces and one nephew.
Bertha's cremation was handled by the Cremation Society of Illinois.
Bertha was a lifelong member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ at 220 Division St., Elgin, IL 60120 where a memorial service will be held Saturday, May 22 at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Thomas O'Conner officiating.
The family requests any memorials for their mother be given to St. Paul's Church.
