Vivian J. Jacobs
Vivian J. Jacobs, 85, of Elgin, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2004 in her home. she was born February 5, 1919 in Elgin and was the daughter of Ernest and Marguerite Clarke Benz. Vivian had worked at the Larkin High School as the secretary to the Athletic Director for 15 years prior to retirement.
Member of the Cornerstone Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, B. Frank Jacobs whom she married on April 11, 1942; four children, Gary (Donna) Jacobs of Giathersberg, MD, Tom (Sue) Jacobs of Elgin, Kathy (George) Wyner of Studio City, CA and Julie (Mark) Mosfield of Wilmette, IL; nine grandchildren and five grandchildren.
preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Lucille Sund.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 12:00 noon in the Cornerstone Methodist Church, Plato Center, IL with Rev. Paul Meyers officiating. Burial will be private in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services in the church. Memorials may be made to Cornerstone Methodist Church, or to Provena St. Joseph Hospice of Elgin. Laird Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth "Limmey" J. Mullin
Elizabeth "Limmey" J. Mullin, 80, of South Elgin went to her eternal rest on May 18 at her home, surrounded by family and friends. She was born on February 12, 1924 to Sarah Jane and David James Cairns in Smamstown Terrace, England. She was the sixth of eleven children.
She is survived by her children, Maureen (Vic) Glowacki of Bartlett, Elizabeth (Steven) Larsen of Oak Lawn, David (Lynn) Mullin of Oswego; four grandchildren, Steven Aubrey, Kristen Elizabeth, Sarah Lynn, and Emily Ann.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Mullin; her parents; her siblings; and a son, Aubrey Cairns Mullin in childhood.
She was a loving and caring person who touched the lives of everyone she met and will be missed by all.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 at Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St., Elgin. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Glen Oak cemetery in Hillside, Illinois. Arrangements by Madison Funeral Home (847)741-1128.

William "Bill" Knudsen
William "Bill" Knudsen, 71, of Carpentersville, passed away May 16, 2005 in Sherman Hospital, Elgin. He was born on September 29, 1933 in Chicago, IL and was the son of Leonard and Mabel Knudsen. Bill was a Veteran, and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He had worked as a bus driver for the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) for 35 years prior to his retirement. Bill was an avid Civil War Enthusiast, and participated in the Civil War Re-Enactment since 1985 with the Illinois 10th Regiment.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 1231 in Lake in the Hills.
Survivors include his loving wife, Gail Knudsen of Carpentersville, IL; his son, Daniel (Susan) Knudsen of Lake Zurich, IL; his grandson, Sean Knudsen; his two sisters, Lorraine Nieman of Chicago, IL and Patricia Bott of MN; his best friend, Bill Lundgren of Carpentersville, IL; his sister-in-law, Gloria Casey of Glendale, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2005 in the Laird Funeral Home, 120 S. Third St. (corner of Third and Oregon St.), West Dundee, IL 60118, from 4-8:00 PM. Funeral services will be on Monday at 11:00 AM in the funeral home, with burial to follow in the Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee. Info: 847-836-8770.

Barbara Ann Peabody
Barbara Ann Peabody, 68, of Elgin, died May 17, 2005 at her home. She was born September 20, 1936 the daughter of Earle and Kathryn (Ginnell) Leitner. Barbara loved raising her children and adoring grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Windy; and three infants at birth.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Richard of 49 years, they were married February 11, 1956; a son, Richard Michael (Leah) of Houston, TX; two daughters, Maryann (Brian) Curry of Batavia and Margaret Sweat of Rockford; 11 grandchildren, Cherissa, Merissa, Megan, Mallory, Matthew, Ashley, Ryan, Dawn, Zachary, Blake, and Colton; two sisters, Linda (Marshall) Towe of TN, and Margaret (Owen) Faxon of Washington State; an aunt, Mary (Jerry) Prachar; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at the O'Connor-Leetz Funeral Home, Elgin on Friday, May 20th, from 4:00 until 8:00 PM, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Elgin with Fr. Geoffrey Wirth, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Carol M. Edwards nee Jennings
Carol M. Edwards, nee Jennings, age 73, of Elgin. passed away Sunday, May 19, 2002 at Sherman Hospital. Born July 24, 1928 in Addison, IL.
She is survived by a son, Leroy (Karen) Myers, Jr. of St. Charles; four daughters, Doreen (Michael) Karst of Crystal Lake, Dianne (Douglas) Parsley of Joshua, TX, Carol A. Edwards of Elgin and Bonnie (John) Heidenreich of Elgin; three sisters, Marilou, Joy and Diane; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Cremation will be private. Donations to Anderson Animal Shelter, 1000 S. Lafox, South Elgin, IL 60177 would be appreciated. Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory, 950 South Bartlett Rd. (at Stearns Rd.), Bartlett, IL 60103 in charge of arrangements.

Arthur (Bud) Hagemann
Arthur (Bud) Hagemann, 78, of Elgin. passed away Sunday, May 19, 2002 at Sherman West Court. He was born April 14, 1924 in Hinsdale, IL, son of Arthur and Martha Moeller Hagemann.
Member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Elgin and former member of Elgin Moose. Bud attended school in Downers Grove and dairy farmed with his parents in Downers Grove and Schaumburg area. He later lived and farmed in Kirkland, IL where he was also active and a scout director cub master, 4-H leader and president of Lions Club. In 1965 he formed a partnership with sons Clyde and Larry farming in and around Elgin and Hampshire areas, retiring in June 1991. Bud was a great fisherman. He went yearly to either Leeck Lake, MN or Gills Rock, WI.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine; daughter, Cherie (Jim) Garrelts of WI; son, Larry (Linda) Hagemann of Elgin; stepsons, Jeff Ehlers of Elgin and Jim Ehlers of Nevada; step-daughter, Julie Nickerson of S.C. and nine grandchildren: Ron (Julie) Hagemann, Jerry Hagemann, Michael (Jenny) Hagemann, Kerry Hagemann Butts, Chad (Heather) Hagemann, Bethany Hagemann, Rodney (Dawn) Garrelts, Tammy Garrelts, Tony (Megan) Garrelts; 14 great grandchildren; a brother, Wilbert (Peg) Hagemann of MN; sisters, Lorraine (Joe) Daley of Nevada and Dolores Poppino of West Chicago; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.
preceded in death by his parents; sons, Brian in 1982 and Clyde in 1994; also one brother.
Funeral services will be private at Madison Funeral Home on Wednesday, 305 Park St., Elgin with Rev. Richard Bellas officiating. Burial private at River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8:00 P.M. at Madison Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church or Hospice of Northeast Illinois.

Hilma Krueger
Hilma Krueger, age 94, of Elgin passed away Saturday, May 18, 2002 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. She was born February 16, 1908 in Plato Center, the daughter of Charles and Clara Rohrsen Rohlfing. She had been a resident of Plato Center and the Elgin area all of her life. She had been employed as a bus driver with school district U-46 for 23 years before retiring.
She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Elgin.
Surviving are three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a step son, Robert Krueger of Kilgore, Texas; five step grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren and one step great great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry in 1984; a daughter, Jeanette Hulke; a son, Warren Krueger; a grandson; a great-granddaughter; a step grandson; two sisters, Florence Anderson and Leona Heckmann and two brothers, Arthur and Elmer Rohlfing.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 24, 2002 at 1:00 P.M. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Elgin with Rev. Martin Balzer officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and Friday from 12:00 NOON until the time of services in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Elgin.

Gertrude A. Schaefer
Gertrude A. Schaefer, 97, of Elgin. passed away Monday, May 20, 2002 at Sherman Hospital. She was born January 8, 1905 in Germany, daughter of Anton and Catharina Klee Brutscher.
She is survived by a daughter, Anna (Robert) Lindemann of Elgin; grandsons, Erich Steneck of Elgin and Norbert Steneck of Hampshire.
preceded in death by her husband, Cornelius in 1984 and a granddaughter, Gloria Steneck in 1975.
Funeral service Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St., Elgin with Rev. Richard Bellas officiating. Burial River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 22, 2002 from noon until time of service at 1:00 P.M. Madison Funeral Home. Memorials to Calvary Lutheran Church would be appreciated.

Louise "Lucy" Schultz
Louise "Lucy" Schultz, 97, of Elgin, passed away Monday, May 20, 2002 in the Apostolic Resthaven. She was born October 31, 1940 in Oneida, Kansas and was the daughter of Julius and Caroline Eckert Leuthold. Resident of Elgin most of her life, Lucy had been employed by Joseph Spiess Co. and the Elgin National Watch Factory prior to her retirement.
Member of the Apostolic Christian Church of Elgin.
She is survived by a daughter, Lavone (Chappie) Wells of Elgin; a son, Gordon (Shirley) Schultz of West Dundee; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond in 1974; a son, Norman Schultz; five sisters, Julia, Adeline, Caroline, Lena, and Mary; six brothers, Julius, George, Charles, Daniel, Joseph and Jacob; also a grandson, Michael Wells.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at 10:00 A.M. in the Apostolic Christian Church, Elgin. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 21, 2002 in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, from 4-8:00 P.M. and on Wednesday from 9:15 A.M. until the time of services in the church.

Helen Beissert (nee Ringheimer)
Helen Beissert (nee Ringheimer), born June 14, 1919 in Wolsey Beadle, South Dakota to Oscar J. and Julia (Peterson) Ringheimer, passed away May 14, 2004 in Friendship, Wisconsin.
Helen left home about 1937, taking the job of what would be called "a nanny" today (1995). She traveled to several states, including Texas, Kentucky, and Illinois, where she lived with families, caring for their children. About 1941, she found a job working at the Elgin Watch Factory in Elgin, Illinois. She married William A. Beissert of July 4, 1942 in Elgin, Illinois. They moved to Friendship, Wisconsin in 1978.
Survivors include her husband, William Beissert of Friendship, WI; a sister, Florence Thrun of Elgin, IL; her children, Susan (Reed) Crofoot of Lake in the Hills, IL and William (Susan) Beissert of Carpentersville, IL; her grandchildren, Reed (Deborah) Crofoot of Elgin, IL and Kevin (Michelle) Beissert of Elizabethtown, IN; her great-grandchildren, Crystal, Felicia, Cassandra, and Kevin Beissert of Elizabethtown, IN; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services and burial were private.

Clara M. Hebeisen
Clara M. Hebeisen, age 86, of Geneva, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at Tower Hill Healthcare Center in South Elgin. She was born July 10, 1917 in Wasco, Illinois, the daughter of John P. and Margaret (Kettman) Miller.
Clara was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother actively engaged in volunteer work especially devoted to children and to her church which was St. John Brebeuf in Niles, IL, and St. Peter in Geneva. She was a graduate of Mount St. Mary Academy in St. Charles and was a secretary for Elgin National Watch Co. and a librarian for the Niles library.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Alois; six children, John (Margaret) of Center Harbor, NH, James of St. Louis, Rosemary (Dr. Howie Wolf) Pierro of Boulder, CO, Thomas (Lois Jean) of Grayslake, IL, Charles (Kathleen) of Lake Zurich, IL, and Louise (Phillip) Areddia of Whitefish Bay, WI; 15 grandchildren, Stephen (Teresa), Robert, Mark (Carrie), Laura, Terri (Robert), Krista, Thomas (Jynifer), Richard, Mara, Megan, Daniel, Alyssa, Stephanie, Matthew and Jack; also survived by nine great grandchildren; three sisters, Helen Close, Mary M. Johnson, and Rosella Ehl, all of St. Charles.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, William C. Miller and Raymond B. Miller; and one sister, Elizabeth Meyer Geldmeyer.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 24, 2004 at 9:30 AM at the Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State St. (Rt. 38), Geneva, proceeding to St. Peter Catholic Church, 1891 Kaneville Rd., Geneva, for Celebration of Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM. Father Akan Simon will be Celebrant.
Burial will follow at Resurrection cemetery Geneva.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 23, from 2:00-7:00 PM with the Rosary recited at 7:00 PM at the Malone Funeral Home Geneva. Memorials to the charity of the donors choice would be appreciated. Information (630) 232-8233.

Bertha Marie Heine
Bertha M. Heine, 100, passed away in her sleep on Saturday, May 15, 2004 at the Rosewood Care Center in Elgin.
Bertha was born March 11, 1904 in South Elgin, IL to Frederick and Marie Kobel. Bertha was the fifth of nine children born to Frederick and Marie.
She married Erwin A. Reimer January 19, 1922 and she and Erwin had three children.
She married Raymond H. Heine May 24, 1964.
After raising her children, she worked at Reimer's Wagon Wheel Restaurant on Villa St. with her son, Richard, and her husband in the 1950s. She worked for a time at Al's Hardware Store in Sunset Park Shopping Center. She worked for Fannie May Candies for thirty-five years and retired in 1989 at age eighty-five. She also did volunteer work at various organizations after retirement.
Bertha loved to travel in her later years with her daughter, and did so for many years. Together they saw everything worth seeing at least once.
Bertha also loved to fish, and she was very good at it but too modest to brag.
Survivors include her sons, Richard (Virginia) Reimer of Oswego, IL and Robert (Judith) Reimer of Elgin, IL; her daughter, Arlene Reimer of Elgin, IL; two stepsons, Edward (Alice) Heine of Hampshire, IL and Douglas (Phyllis) Heine of Chana, IL; her grandchildren, David and Susan Reimer, Bonnie and Randy Reimer, and Robin Lovejoy; her step-grandchildren, Vernon, David, Donald, Tim, and Kenneth Heine, Marilyn Becker, Barbara Heine, Jill Lammers, Diane Hauten, Mary Richmond, Nancy Heine, Linda Newman, Karen Stocking; her great-grandchildren, Brandy and Nathan Wilson and Emilee Lovejoy; one sister, Lucy Hutson of Albertville, AL; many nieces and nephews.
Bertha was preceded in death by both of her husbands; her parents; four brothers, Rudolph, Frederick Jr., Christian, and John Kobel; three sisters, Lena Berna, Mary Kobel, and Elsie Crain; two stepsons, Howard and Lloyd Heine; four nieces and one nephew.
Bertha's cremation was handled by the Cremation Society of Illinois.
Bertha was a lifelong member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ at 220 Division St., Elgin, IL 60120 where a memorial service will be held Saturday, May 22 at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Thomas O'Conner officiating.
The family requests any memorials for their mother be given to St. Paul's Church.
