Vivian J. Jacobs
Vivian J. Jacobs, 85, of Elgin, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2004 in her home. She was born February 5, 1919 in Elgin and was the daughter of Ernest and Marguerite Clarke Benz. Vivian had worked at the Larkin High School as the secretary to the Athletic Director for 15 years prior to retirement. She was a member of the Cornerstone Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, B. Frank Jacobs whom she married on April 11, 1942; four children, Gary (Donna) Jacobs of Gaithersberg, MD, Tom (Sue) Jacobs of Elgin, Kathy (George) Wyner of Studio City, CA and Julie (Mark) Mosfield of Wilmette, IL; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Lucille Sund.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 12:00 noon in the Cornerstone Methodist Church, Plato Center, IL with Rev. Paul Meyers officiating. Burial will be private in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services in the church. Memorials may be made to Cornerstone Methodist Church, or to Provena St. Joseph Hospice of Elgin. Laird Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Nancy J. Swendsen
Nancy J. Swendsen, 63, a 37 year resident of Hanover Park died Thursday, May 20, 2004 at her home. She was born in Chicago on January 25, 1941. Nancy was raised in Algonquin and was a 1959 graduate of Dundee Community High School. She was a 1959 graduate of Dundee Community High School. She was a baptized and confirmed member of St. John Lutheran Church in Algonquin.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Gerald R. Swendsen, they married on April 22, 1961; their children, Julie and Scott, both of Hanover Park and Erik (fiance Alicia Jordan) of Carol Stream; her mother, Georgia Davis of Algonquin.
She was preceded in death by her father, Cecil C. Davis and a sister, Sharon.
Funeral services will be on Monday at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Burial will follow in the Algonquin cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 12 noon until time of service in the funeral home.

Lorraine J. Eggert
Lorraine J. Eggert, 80, of Fox River Grove, passed away Friday, May 20, 2005 at Sherman Hospital, Elgin. She was born on November 26, 1924 in Elgin, the daughter of the late Henry and Pansy (nee Hasman) DePatie. She was a resident of the Fox River Grove area for the past 47 years and a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church of Algonquin. Lorraine retired from the Park Corporation in Barrington after 29 years of service.
She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Eggert and Nancy Eggert, both of Fox River Grove; and a son, James (Gena) Eggert of Branford, CT; her brother, Arthur (Mary) Davis of Hickory Hills, IL; and a sister, Mildred (Wayne) Miller of Coatesville, IN also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 21 years, William J. Eggert. He died on December 21, 1970. The married on December 4, 1948 in Algonquin.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 23, 2005 at 11:00 AM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. The Rev. William Stroup, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in the Algonquin cemetery, Algonquin. Visitation will be held on Monday from 9:00 AM until time of services at 11:00 AM. Memorials may be made to either the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.

Gertrude G. Eineke
Gertrude G. Eineke, 86, of Elgin, ended a year of struggle with cancer to go rest with her Lord on May 18, 2005.
She was born October 16, 1918 in Hillsdale, MI, the daughter of James and Esther (Hinkle) Gittings. After graduation from Hillsdale High School in 1938, she moved to Elgin. She entered St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in August, 1940. November 29, 1941 she married Herbert F. Eineke at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Plato. She remained an active member of the church, working tirelessly with Women's Missionary League, Ladies Aide, Altar Guild, taught Sunday School, and maintained the Cradle Roll from 1942 until her death.
She and her husband farmed for many years near Plato Center while raising five children. In addition to her church work, she was involved with her children's schools through PTA, Band Mothers, and chaperoning various school functions. In 1970, she returned to her profession of Nursing. At the age of 59, she accomplished a lifelong dream by graduating with Bachelor of Science from College of St. Francis College, Joliet in December 1977. Following retirement from Sherman Hospital, she provided child care for her grandchildren, enjoyed travel, camping and Bible study, and continued as an avid fan of Chicago sports teams, especially soccer.
Surviving are her five children, Lee (Patricia) Eineke of Sugar Grove, Glenn (Gloria) Eineke of Bartlett, Paul Eineke of Wheeling, Rita (James) Miller of South Elgin and Alvina Eineke of Elgin; five grandchildren, Robert Eineke, Lisa (Ian) Engberg, Jeffrey (Debra) Eineke, Robert Miller and Jennifer Miller; two great-grandchildren, Darrian and Casey Engberg; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years on January 3, 1971; her parents; three brothers, Clifford, Edward and Lee Gittings; four sisters, Bertha Keller, Ruth Merritt, and Wilhamina and Violetta Gittings (both during infancy).
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 23, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Plato, with burial to follow in North Plato cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Laird
Funeral Home, Elgin, and on Monday morning in the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.

Sarah Elizabeth Fleming
Sarah Elizabeth Fleming, 84, of Woodstock, passed away on May 19. Sarah ended her worldly journey to join her husband in Heaven.
She was born January 16, 1921 in Calleo, MO the daughter of Luther and Sue Bessie Malone Cross. Sarah was #11 of 13 children. On February 3, 1941 she married Frank J. Fleming. She lived most of her life in Elgin. She retired from ITW Shakeproof after 33 years of employment.
Sarah is survived by her three children, Paul E. Fleming (Anne) of Wonder Lake, IL; Peggy Ballew of Joliet, Larry D. (Karen) Fleming of Crystal Lake; six grandchildren; four great-grandsons; two sisters; and many nieces and nephews.
preceded in death by her husband, Frank in 1970; 10 brothers and sisters; one granddaughter; two grandsons; and a daughter-in-law.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at Madison Funeral at 10 AM with Rev. Bill Muilkens. Burial will be at Bluff City cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-9 PM on Monday at Madison Funeral Home, Elgin.

William "Bill" Knudsen
William "Bill" Knudsen, 71, of Carpentersville, passed away May 16, 2005 in Sherman Hospital, Elgin. He was born on September 29, 1933 in Chicago, IL and was the son of Leonard and Mabel Knudsen. Bill was a Veteran, and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He had worked as a bus driver for the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) for 35 years prior to his retirement. Bill was an avid Civil War Enthusiast, and participated in the Civil War Re-Enactment since 1985 with the Illinois 10th Regiment.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 1231 in Lake in the Hills.
Survivors include his loving wife, Gail Knudsen of Carpentersville, IL; his son, Daniel (Susan) Knudsen of Lake Zurich, IL; his grandson, Sean Knudsen; his two sisters, Lorraine Nieman of Chicago, IL and Patricia Bott of MN; his best friend, Bill Lundgren of Carpentersville, IL; his sister-in-law, Gloria Casey of Glendale, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2005 in the Laird Funeral Home, 120 S. Third St. (corner of Third and Oregon St.), West Dundee, IL 60118, from 4-8:00 PM. Funeral services will be on Monday at 11:00 AM in the funeral home, with burial to follow in the Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee. Info: 847-836-8770.

James A. Seyller
James A. Seyller, 87,of New Lebanon, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.
He was born March 22, 1918 in Burlington, IL the son of Anthony and Anna (Schlick) Seyller. Jim married Antoinette C. Herrmann at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Hampshire on May 7, 1938 and they were residents of New Lebanon for more than sixty years. Jim was known as the "unofficial" Mayor of New Lebanon.
Mr. Seyller was a longtime truck driver beginning with a milk route servicing area farmers. He retired after over thirty years of freight hauling for Burren's Transfer of Elgin. Following retirement, he worked at DeLaval in Hampshire.
He was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church of Genoa and formerly of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Hampshire. He was also a lifetime member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
Surviving are his daughters, Carol (Bill) Cleveland of New Lebanon, Janice (Ron) White and Charlene (Bob) Miller both of Genoa; son, Jim (Mary) Seyller of New Lebanon; ten grandchildren, Kris (Pat) Adams of Wisconsin, Bill (Jenny) Cleveland and David Cleveland, both of Genoa, Dale (Deirdre) White and Karlene Fleming, both of Elgin, Jim (Jill) White and Cory (Linda) Miller, both of Hampshire, Jeff (Michelle) Miller of Shorewood, Douglas Seyller of Wheaton and Jennifer (Kurt) Kollwelter of DeKalb; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Watters; and a brother, Robert (Charlotte) Seyller.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Antoinette on September 29, 2003; and brothers, Richard and David Seyller.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 AM Friday at the St. Catherine Catholic Church, 340 S. Stott St. in Genoa with Fr. Tim Seigel officiating. Burial will be in the St. Catherine Catholic cemetery.
Visitation was held from 4 to 8 PM at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Genoa on Thursday, May 19.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the James A. Seyller Memorial Fund (to benefit St. Catherine's), P.O. Box 445, Hampshire, IL 60140.
The Frederick Funeral Home in Hampshire is in charge of arrangements.

Casimiro Vela
Casimiro Vela, age 70, of West Chicago, IL, died Friday, May 20, 2005 at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL.
He was born March 4, 1935 in LaGrulla, TX to Salvador and Francisca Vela.
Mr. Vela was a founding member and was the first greeter at World Overcomers Church in Carol Stream. He always greeted people with a smile and was known at church as "Pa Pa Vela". He was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mauricia; nine children, Ofelia Gonzalez of West Chicago, Olivia (Manny) Martinez of Carol Stream, Delia Valdez of Sycamore, Mary (Frank) Trevino of West Chicago, Salvador Vela of Sycamore, Casimiro, Jr. (Linda) of West Chicago, Rosalinda (Fred) Lara of St. Charles, Franny Vela of West Chicago and Lupe Vela of Warrenville; 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Aurora Gutierrez.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 24 at World Overcomers Church, 990 North County Farm Road, Carol Stream, IL. Apostle Jim DiPalma officiating. Burial at Union cemetery, St. Charles, IL. Visitation will be Monday from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the church. Arrangements made by Yurs Funeral Home, St. Charles, IL. For info call 630-584-0060.

Donald G. Alters
Donald G. Alters, 69 of Lady Lake, FL, formerly of Carpentersville, passed away Saturday, May 15 in Hospice of Lake & Sumter, Lady Lake. He was born November 24, 1934 in Quincy, IL, the son of Carroll E. and Lillian Blaesing Alters, Sr. The family moved to Elgin in 1947. He was a graduate of St. Edward High School, where he was a member of the varsity basketball team.
After 35 years in the RV business, Don and his wife, Joyce, retired in 1997 to move full-time to their home in Florida. As an avid golfer, Don enjoyed running a men's Golf League and coordinating many tournaments. More importantly, he enjoyed playing with his new friends in the Villiages, as well as many old friends and family who visited.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Joyce Yeagley Alters; three daughters, Jacquelyn (Charles) Beasley of Rockford, Julie (Joseph) Liss of Algonquin, Diana (Scott) Roesslein of Carpentersville; four sons, Donald (Diane) Alters of Carpentersville, Larry (Janice) Alters of Elgin, Steven (April) Alters of Las Vegas, NV, Alex (Keri) Alters of West Dundee; 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; one sister, Patricia Zieba of Durand, MI; one brother, David (Linda) Alters of West Dundee.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Carroll E. Alters, Jr.
Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, May 24, 10 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, West Dundee. Burial will be private. Visitation will be held Monday, May 23 from 4-9 p.m. at Laird Funeral Home, 120 S. Third St., West Dundee (Corner of S. Third and Oregon). The family request in lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Hospice Foundation of Lake & Sumter, Inc, P.O. Box 280, Lady Lake, FL. 32158-9985.

Margaret K. "Marg" Driscoll
Margaret K. "Marg" Driscoll, 93, of Gilberts, passed away Friday, May 21, 2004 at Lakeland Hospital in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. She was born February 21, 1911 in Gilberts, the daughter of Edward and Margaret (Hogan) Meagher. Margaret graduated from St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in Elgin in 1931. On August 21, 1940 in Gilberts, she married Charles O. Driscoll. She continued her nursing career in the Elgin area for over 40 years and spent the last 20 years as the Head Nurse of the T.B. section at the State Hospital in Elgin.
She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Gilberts, St. Joseph's Hospital Nurse's Alumni Association, the Huntley Lioness Club, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Catholic Daughter's of America and the Huntley Senior Citizens.
She is survived by two children, Patrick C. Driscoll of Gilberts and Rosalynn (Thomas) Edwards of Fontana, WI; three grandchildren, Kellie (Thomas) Quinn, Keith Edwards and Shawn (Jennifer) Driscoll; five great grandchildren, Sean, Ryan and Bradley Quinn and Wyatt and Cookie Driscoll; two brothers, Pierer Meagher of Kansas City, MO and Joseph (Barbara) Meagher of Aurora, OH; a sister, Alice Kelly of Bartlett; a sister-in-law, Margaret Meagher of Elgin; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles on January 4, 1949; two brothers, John and Edward Meagher; and her sister, Mary Little.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 Noon on Tuesday, May 25, at the St. Mary Catholic Church in Gilberts with Father Richard Rosinski officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's cemetery in Gilberts.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 PM Monday at the James A. O'Connor Funeral Home, 11603 E. Main St., Huntley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Gilberts. Information: 847-669-5111.
