Mildred L. Pace
Mildred L. Pace, 94, of Elgin, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2002 at Heritage Manor, Elgin. She was born May 18, 1909 in Beulah, North Dakota, the daughter of Arthur and Louise Erickson Johnson.
She had been a resident of Elgin for the past 70 years. She was employed by Brody Coat Co. in Elgin before retiring. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ of Elgin. She was a 50 year member of the Moose Lodge in Elgin.
Surviving are one daughter, Jeanne Westerbeck of Tempe, Arizona; two sons, Les (Silvana) Pace of Elgin and James (Carol) Pace of Elgin; ten grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Henry (Mary) Johnson of South Elgin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leslie B. Pace; one grandson, Matthew Pace; one brother, Erick Johnson; and three sisters, Lillian Lewis, Neoma Wickman and Adeline Keller.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2002 at 11:30 AM at the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, with Rev. Thomas O'Connor officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00-8:00 PM in the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to St. Paul's United Church of Christ or the American Diabetes Association.

Asimina Petousis (nee Blazakis)
Asimina Petousis (nee Blazakis), age 59, of Elgin, passed away September 12, 2002 at St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. She was born July 21, 1943 in Athens, Greece.
She was the beloved wife of Hristos; loving mother of Nick (Christina) Petousis and Jenny (Aris) Metropulos; cherished grandmother of Kostas, Christ, Katie, Mina Metropulos and Christos and Yannis Petousis; dear sister of Maria (Peter) Angelopoulo and Emmanuel (Angie) Blazakis; fond sister-in-law of Ekaterini (Evangelos) Tsesmelis in Greece; devoted aunt of many nieces and nephews.
From her family, "We love and miss you".
Family and friends to meet Monday morning at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 525 Church Rd., Elgin, IL 60123 for services at 10:30AM. Interment at Elmwood cemetery, River Grove, IL. Visitation will be Sunday, September 15, 2002 from 4 to 9PM at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Highway, Palatine.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Sophia Church would be greatly appreciated.

Anna Gjurkovic
Anna Gjurkovic, 89 of Elgin, former many year resident of West Dundee, died Friday, September 12, 2003 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin. She was born in Yugoslavia on April 10, 1914, the daughter of Joseph and Theresa (nee Frey) Mokush. She was a resident of the area for 33 years and was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church, West Dundee.
She is survived by her children, Magdalena (Steve) Zentner of Sleepy Hollow and Adam (Trudi) Gjurkovic of Elgin; four grandchildren, Susan Zentner of Buffalo Grove, Gery (Julie) Zentner of Atlanta, Georgia, Carl (Kelly) Gjurkovic of Huntley and Rudy Gjurkovic of Elgin; three great-grandsons, Erik, Brett and Alexander Zentner.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Joseph on May 9, 1990; a sister in infancy.
Family and friends will meet for Funeral Mass on Monday at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Catherine of Siena Church, West Dundee. The Rev. David Austin will officiate. Burial will follow in the River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. Visitation will be on Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee and on Monday in the church from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass. Memorials may be made to either the St. Jude Children's Hospital or The Make A Wish Foundation.

Joseph Sipinski
Joseph Sipinski, 79, of Elgin passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2003 in Sherman Hospital. He was born April 1, 1924 in Poland and was the son of Jozef and Cecylia Sipinski.
He had been a resident of Elgin for the last 39 years and was a machinist employed by Hills-McCanna-Rockwell International for 36 years before retiring.
Member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Elgin.
Surviving are his wife, Valentina; three sons, Gene Sipinski of Elgin, John (Paula) Sipinski of Elgin, Joseph W. (Lisa) Sipinski of Elgin; four grandchildren, Joshua, Jeremy, Nicole, and Stephanie; two step-grandchildren, Shauna and Taylor Johnston.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; one brother.
Prayers will be said Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 State St., Elgin and then Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Prayers for the Christian Wake will be said Sunday at 4:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Nell Bradley Smith
Nell Bradley Smith, a long time resident of Elgin and a teacher at Washington Elementary School for 28 years, died Monday, September 8, in San Diego, California. Since 1986, Mrs. Smith and her husband, Robert H. Smith, had split each year between Elgin and San Diego, spending the winter months in sunny southern California.
The only child of Rufus Bradley and Nellie Mae Hurst, Nellie Mae Bradley was born on December 6, 1925 in Metropolis, Illinois, where she received her early education. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Southern Illinois University in 1947. That same year, after graduation, she was married to Robert Smith in Carbondale on June 29. Mrs. Smith then taught Physical Education for the next four years at Marion High School. After the birth of their son, Kim, in 1951, and their daughter, Christy, in 1953, the family moved to Elgin where Mrs. Smith began teaching at Washington School in 1956.
Mrs. Smith was her son's fourth grade reading teacher and both son and daughter remember their mother as a fair and outstanding teacher who retained the respect and affection of her students for many years after their participation in her class.
Mrs. Smith was a member of the Elgin Teachers Association, the Illinois Education Association and the National Education Association. She earned her Master's Degree in Special Education in 1979 from DePaul University. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Elgin since 1959.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert Henry Smith; by son, Kim and grandson, John, of Baltimore and her daughter, Christy (Harrison Lazarus) and grandchildren, Avary adn Sterling, of San Francisco.
Mrs. Smith chose to donate her body for medical research and education to the Medical Center of the University of California at San Diego. A memorial service will be held on Shelter Island in San Diego on or near October 12, 2003. For further information about this service, please contact Mr. Robert H. Smith at (858)483-6123.

Beloved husband of Jean (nee Witherel); loving father of Morley (the late Joanne), Laura (Paul) Gross and Patricia Herman; cherished grandfather of seven; great grandfather of 10.

Margaret A. Sleigh
Margaret A. Sleigh, age 71 of Shabbona and formerly of Elgin, died Sunday, September 12, 2004 at Shabbona Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at Wait-Ross-Allanson Funeral and Cremation Services Chapel, 51 Center St., Elgin. Rev. Rita Root will officiate. Burial will be Friday, September 17, at 1:00 P.M. at Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin.
She was born June 21, 1931 in Harrisburg, PA, the daughter of John and Ann (Petroff) Lesko. She married to Thomas Sleigh, Sr. in 1955. She was employed as a bookkeeper for Lakewood Memorial Park in Elgin and later for Safety Supply of Illinois, and for Joseph Speise Company in Elgin.
Surviving are one son, Thomas, Jr. of Sycamore, IL and two daughters, Cynthia Sleigh of Newport, MN, and Barbara (Douglas) Compton of Sycamore, IL. One sister, Mary Sparr of Riverside, IL, and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Thomas, three brothers and one sister.
Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. till the time of service Wednesday. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association or the Parkinson's Foundation.

Donald L. "Mike" Bicknese
Donald L. "Mike" Bicknese, 67, of Hampshire, passed away Thursday, September 13, 2001 at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.
He was born April 26, 1934 in Hampshire, the son of Fred and Frieda (Knoop) Bicknese. He was a lifelong resident of Hampshire and a 1951 graduate of Hampshire High School. "Mike" married Evelyn L. Henning on November 5, 1955 in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Huntley.
Mr. Bicknese worked as a carpenter for several years, farmed 21 years in the Hampshire area, and was employed as a sanitation engineer for School District 300 in Hampshire for many years. He was a member of The Trinity Lutheran Church of Huntley.
Surviving are his wife, Evelyn; children, Karen (Larry) Stevens of Byron, Kathy (Tim) Diedrick of Belvidere, Sarah (Mark) Sester and Brian (Paula) Bicknese, both of Hampshire; eight grandchildren, Ryan and Jeffrey Stevens, Megan and Abby Diedrick, Mallory and Kevin Sester, Zack and Kolby Bicknese; a sister, Lucille Friend of Sycamore; two brothers, Kenneth (Phyllis) Bicknese of Genoa, Lester (Nancy) Bicknese of Manitowish Waters, WI; step-sister, Annetta (George) Grever of Maple Park; his mother-in-law, Louise Henning of Huntley; sister-in-law, Dagny Bicknese of Leaf River, and many nieces and nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Fritz Bicknese in April 2001; brother-in-law, Curt Friend; two nephews, Mark and Todd Bicknese and father-in-law, Franz Henning.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Tuesday, September 18, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 11008 N. Church St., Huntley with the Rev. Charles W. Kittel officiating. Burial will be in the Hampshire Center cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 P.M. Monday at the Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire and at the Church on Tuesday prior to services from 10 to 11 A.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be directed to the Hampshire Elementary School or to the Trinity Lutheran Church of Huntley.

Charles H. Frazier
Charles H. Frazier, 69, of South Elgin, passed away Friday, Sept. 14, 2001 in Sherman West Court, Elgin.
He was born Oct. 14, 1931 in Stuben, Wis., the son of Frederick and Erval Ward Frazier.
He had been a resident of South Elgin since 1958 and had been employed by Edward Schneider Sand and Gravel for 22 years and then Elgin Community College for 18 years in the Groundskeeping Dept. before retiring. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the Army.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 799 of Elgin and a member of the American Legion Post 57 of Elgin.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Carley Frazier, whom he married on July 2, 1954; three sons, Stephen Frazier of Elgin, Frederick Frazier of Pingree Grove and Timothy (Valerie) Frazier of South Elgin; five grandchildren, Dawn, Steve, Matthew, Stephanie and Elaina; four sisters, Caroline Colson and Evelyn Rutherford, both of Wauzeka, Wis., Ruth Bachmann and Juanita Jones, both of Madison, Wis.; a special dog, Shorty; and special friends, Sue, Sherri, Christian and Tony.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Monday in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, the Rev. Paul Meyers officiating. Burial will be private.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Sunday in the funeral home.

Albert A. Goers
Albert A. Goers, age 92, a resident of Glen Ellyn since 1952, formerly of Dundee, IL, passed away September 12, 2001, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. He was born March 14, 1909, in Dundee, the son of Emilie and Frank Goers.
Mr. Goers' education included attending Armory Institute (ITT) in Chicago. In 1941, he worked for the architectural firm, Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, where he was one of the architects developing the site plan for the new city of Oak Ridge, Tenn. This project was commissioned by the US Atomic Energy Commission's Manhatten Project. Upon completion, he continued his architectural career working for respected Chicago architectural firms. He is most known for his contributions to such projects as River City in Chicago's south Loop, the Illinois "over the road" tollroad restaurants and the Health Science Center at the State University of New York-Stony Brook campus. He enjoyed woodworking, water coloring and world travel with his wife of 61 years.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Dorothy A. (nee Haertel) Goers of Glen Ellyn; three children, Fred (Kristen) Goers of Denver, CO, Cleo (William) Hurley of Falls Church, VA and John (Alison) Goers of Atascadero, CA; one brother, Otto Goers of Sun City, AZ; one sister, Ruth Proesel of Dundee, IL; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Emilie Goers; two sisters, Margaret Erickson and Hilda Kostecki and two brothers, William and Edwin Goers.
Memorial services will be held Sun., September 16, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 493 Forest Ave., Glen Ellyn. The Rev. Robin Currie will officiate. Inurnment in East Dundee Township cemetery.

Regina B. Hammershoy
Regina B. Hammershoy, age 83, of Elgin, passed away Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, in the Carrington Care Center, South Elgin. She was born September 1, 1918, in Thorpe, WI, the daughter of Leon and Hattie Andrews.
She had been a resident of Elgin for many years. She was an award winning Avon Representative for many years. She later was employed by Sherman Hospital before retiring. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Elgin.
Surviving are three daughters, Roberta Norton of San Diego, CA, Renee (Del) Worrell of San Diego, CA and Rosalyn (Jack) Benson of Davie, FL; two sons, Robert (Susan) Hammershoy of Kendall, WI, and Richard (Jackie) Hammershoy of Elgin; 10 grandchildren, Daniel (Juli), Cynthia (Jeff), Audrey (Sean), Barry (Rhonda), Keith, Jeffrey, Jay (Julie), Ian, Diedre (Adam) and Sara; 8 great-grandchildren, Beth Ann, Anna Rae, David, Jonathan, Samuel, Brandon, Sabrina and True Summer and two sisters, Bernice Hamilton of Michigan and Alice Walter of Elgin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Raymond in 1967 and one grandson, Thomas Ray Norton.
Funeral Mass will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Elgin. Burial will be private. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and Monday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of Mass in the church.

Marta Hartley
Marta Hartley, 43, of Lincoln, NE, passed away Thursday, September 13, 2001.
Marta was born October 8, 1957 in Lincoln, the daughter of William and Shirley (Mohr) Hartly.
Marta was a member of PFLAG-Cornhusker. She was employed by Knowles Electronics from 1980 to 1990 in Elgin, Illinois and was a 1992 Human Services graduate from Southeast Community College. She was an HIV/AIDS Educator from 1990 to present.
Survivors include her mother, Shirley Hartley of Lincoln; her sister, Cynthia Hartley of Lincoln; a brother and sister-in-law, Scott and Beth Hartley of Lincoln; sister, Linda Hershberger of Lincoln; a niece, Raechel Hershberger of Lincoln; nephews, Sam Hartley, Joe Hartley and Jack Hartley all of Lincoln; and aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Martha Mohr; her father, William Hartley; and loyal companion, Henry Hartley.
Memorial Service will be Tuesday, September 18, 2001 at 11 AM at First Plymouth Congregational Church (2000 D. Street, Lincoln, NE) with Reverend Dr. Otis Young and Reverend Bill Armold officiating. No Visitation, cremation. Private Inurnment at Lincoln Memorial Park.
Memorials to the Humane Society or Nebraska AIDS Project in lieu of flowers.
Honorary Pallbearers: Rebecca Shacklett, Sue Harrold, Carrie Healy, Jayne Draper, Raechel Hershberger, Linda Hershberger, Sam Hartley, Joe Hartley and Jack Hartley.
