G.L. "Buster" Masingale
G.L. "Buster" Masingale, 89, of Elgin, passed away Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001 in his home.
He was born Jan. 24, 1912 in Roseville, Ark., the son of George and Sallie Renfrow Masingale.
He had been a resident of Michigan for many years and had been a resident of Ft. Smith, Ark. for over 10 years and had been a resident of Elgin for the past three years. He had been employed by Ford Motor Co. for 28 years before retiring. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army.
He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church of Elgin and the Masonic Lodge in Ft. Smith, Ark.
Survivors include his wife, Imogene Kirby Masingale, whom he married on Aug. 9, 1941; a daughter, Patricia (James) McCusker of Elgin; two grandchildren, Timothy (Deanne) Tighe of Algonquin and Michael (Marta) Tighe of Marietta, Ga.; and two great-grandchildren, Madison and Garrett.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister; and four brothers.
Memorial Services will be 3 p.m., Thursday in the Wesley United Methodist Church, 1070 South St., Elgin, the Rev. Sung-Ja Lee Moon officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, Elgin.
Laird Funeral Home, Elgin is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy L. Adamson
Dorothy L. Adamson, 78, of St. Charles, IL. died Thursday October 03, 2002 at Delnor Community Hospital, Geneva, IL. She was born June 6, 1924 in Poplar Bluff, MO.
Mrs. Adamson was employed by U.S. Can for 20 years and by Walmart for 7 years.
Survivors include her husband of 39 years, James; three daughters, Charlene Peterson of Itasca, IL., Sandra Bledsoe (Michael) Chapman of North Aurora, IL. and Kimberly (Matthew) Luhman of Elgin, IL.; two step-children, Ann (Prakash) Jalihal of Little Rock, AR. and Danny (Gena) Adamson of Fayetteville, AR; three grandchildren, Kevin (Tammy) Brown of Elgin, IL., Jason Jalihal of Little Rock, AR. and Eric Luhman of Elgin, IL.; one brother, Glenn (Katie) Cunningham of St. Charles, IL.; and one sister, Jerry (Wayne) Dabbs of Fisk, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Freda Patton; and one grandson, Steven Jones.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday October 7, 2002 at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E. Main St., St. Charles. Burial will be in North cemetery, St. Charles. Visitation will be held from 2 to 6:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home. For info, call (630)584-0060.

Jon E. Beuchat
Jon E. Beuchat, 60, of Elgin passed away Tuesday, October 1 in Heritage Manor in Elgin.
He was born April 8, 1942 in Elgin and was the son of Ervin and Alice Beuchat.
He had been a resident of Elgin all his life and had been employed by Sherman Hospital for 35 years before retiring. He attended St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
Survivors include four sisters, his twin sister, Judy (Donald) Riedl of Marengo, Janice (Bob) Headley of Carpentersville, June (Jeff) Bachmura of Carpentersville, and Joyce (Victor) Arce of Marengo.; his mother, Alice Rendl of Marengo; nephews, Michael (Tabatha) Riedl of Belvidere, Aron Adkins of Florida, David Adkins of Carpentersville and Ken Headley of Carpentersville; nieces, April (Jim) Dill of Huntley, Amy Headley of Carpentersville, and Virgina Arce of Marengo.
He was preceded in death by his father; and his grandparents.
Funeral Mass will be held Monday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1635 W. Highland Ave., Elgin. Burial will be private at Windridge cemetery, Cary, IL
Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. in the Laird Funeral Home in Elgin, and then on Monday at the Church from 9:30 A.M. until time of the Mass.
Memorials may be given to Multiple Sclerosis Foundation or Heritage Manor.

David K. Howard
David K. Howard, 62, of Prairie Grove died Tuesday evening, October 1, 2002 at Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry. He was born May 2, 1940 in Atlanta, Georgia, the son of Mercer J. and Freddie K. (Black) Howard.
Formerly of Georgia, Mr. Howard was a 40 year resident of Illinois. A resident of Prairie Grove for the past two years, he also lived in Carpentersville and Lakemoor. He owned a residential siding business for several years prior to retiring due to health reasons. He also was a talented auto mechanic.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting, as well as tending to his vegetable garden. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by two daughters, Kathleen (James) Greenwell of Prairie Grove and Cheryl Howard of Carpentersville; three sons, Brian Howard and Bruce Howard, both of Dallas, GA. and Wade (Carmen) Howard of Cherry Valley, IL; 14 grandchildren; and a sister, Clara (Jimmy) Kilgore of Talking Rock, GA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Dale and Forrest Howard.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 PM Sunday October 6, 2002 at the George R. Justen & Son Funeral Home, 3519 W. Elm St, McHenry, IL.
The Funeral Service will be at 3 PM Sunday, with Brother Robert Huerta officiating. Inurnment will be private.

Mercedes L. Meyers
Mercedes L. Meyers, 83, of Carpentersville died Monday September 30, 2002 at her home. She was born in Chicago on January 9, 1919, the daughter of John W. and Lucille (nee Bartz) O'Connor.
Mrs. Meyers was a resident of the Carpentersville area since 1959. Following her graduation from DePaul University and moving to the Fox Valley area, she continued her career as a journalist/ reporter with the Elgin Daily Courier news. During her tenure with the Courier News, she was named to the Illinois Women's Press Association and was a recipient of the Mate E. Palmer Award in 1969. She also received a certificate of Merit from the United Press Association in 1975. Throughout her many years in the Carpentersville area, Mrs. Meyers was an active member of the faith community at St. Monica Catholic Church, where she taught CCD, served as an usher and assisted in the parish whenever she was called upon. She was a member of the Carpentersville VFW #5915 Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Meyers had a great love for the Carpentersville area and volunteered her time and talents wherever she could.
She is survived by her two daughters, Marie and Lucille; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; one sister, Dolores (Anthony) Parratore of Mississippi.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley F. Meyers in 1971; and three brothers.
Memorial Funeral Mass will be held on Friday October 4, 2002 at 11:00 AM at the St. Monica Church of Carpentersville. The Reverend William Schuessler will officiate. Interment will follow at the All Saints cemetery, Des Plaines, There will be no visitation.
The Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee is in charge of arrangements.

Burdette Race
Burdette Race, age 98, formerly of Elgin, passed away on Sunday September 22, 2002 at the Manor of Perrysburg in Perrysburg, Ohio. He was born on August 24, 1904 in Aurora, IL., the son of the late J.D. and Carrie (Lintner) Race.
He is survived by his son, Harrison (Lois) of San Carlos, CA.; his daughter, Joanne (J. Burt) Beede of Perrysburg, OH.; five granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ira Race.
He lived in Elgin and was employed by Gas and Electric Utilities for 42 years, as a service repair man. He moved to Perrysburg, Ohio in 1994.
He was very active in community service and received the Elgin Senior Citizen of the Year Award in 1982. Citation for service to: The First United Methodist Church, The Cancer Society, The Elgin Day Care Center, helped establish The Elgin Senior Center, was a founding member of Golden Kiwanis and The Elgin Historical Society. He was a 52 year member of the Mason's Monitor Lounsbury Lodge #522.
Services and Interment will be private.
Memorials may be made to any of his special interests or to a charity of your choice.

Flossie Garmany
Flossie Garmany, 83, of Elgin passed away Friday, October 3, 2003. She was born September 11, 1920 in Tenbrook, Alabama and was the daughter of Wallace Henry and Minnie (Chadwick) Hulgan. Flossie had worked at Motorola in Schaumburg, IL for many years prior to her retirement.
Survivors include seven children, Dennis Gerald (Carolyn) Creed of Ocoee, FL, Brenda (John) Blevins of Elgin, IL, Jackie (Terry) Titus of Ocoee, FL, Dorothy (Darrel Shaffer) Nolan of Owensboro, KY, Patricia Garmany of Elgin, IL, Margaret (Donovan) Foell of Lebanon, MO, Dan (Diane) Garmany of Elgin, IL; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Jack Garmany in 1977.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:30 a.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Gerald Titus officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4-8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.

Donald E. Sherman
Donald E. Sherman, 71, of Capron, IL died Thursday, October 2, 2003. He was born August 8, 1932, the son of Arthur and Edna Mae McNeill Sherman.
Donald married Kay Lossau on April 18, 1953, in Elgin, IL. He was employed by the U.S.D.A. for many years and was currently working with his son in Curtis Woodworking. He was a Submariner with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Kay, of Capron, IL; four sons, Curtis (Joyce) Sherman of Loves Park, IL, Clinton Sherman, Corbett Sherman of Winnebago, IL, Courtney Sherman, Capron, IL; a daughter, Kathleen (Michael) Baker, Whitewater, WI; three grandsons, Cory Baker, Jason Viverito, Nathan Hendricks; a granddaughter, Andrea Hendricks; a great-grandson, Kaden Viverito; a sister, Thelma Gagnon, Elgin, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Christopher; two daughters, Donna Kay and Julie Ann; one grandson, Corbett Sherman, Jr., three brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, October 6, 2003 in the Chapel of Memories in Highland Garden of Memories, 9700 Route 76, Belvidere, IL. Burial will be in Highland Garden of Memories. Visitation will be held on Monday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service in the Chapel of Memories.

Jon H. Hartmann
Jon H. Hartmann, 43, of Carpentersville, died Thursday, October 3, 2002 at his home. He was born in Melrose Park on April 8, 1959.
He was a 40 year resident of the Carpentersville -Elgin areas. He was a 15 year employee of Barrington School District where he worked as a Para-Professional at Barrington High School.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Sandra L. (nee Peterson) Hartmann. They married on March 29, 1980; two sons, Michael of Carpentersville and Jon of Mexico; one grandson, Anthony; his mother, Dorothy Hartmann of Weyerhauser, Wisconsin; two brothers, Jeff Brock and Joe Hartmann, both of Wisconsin; three sisters, Heidi Hartmann and Gabrielle (Randy) Gauthier, both of Wisconsin and Melinda (Shawn) Blansett of Lansing, IL; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Marilyn Peterson of Carpentersville. Jon is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Hartmann.
Funeral services will be on Monday, October 7 at 11:00AM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Burial will follow in the Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1-5PM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee.

Duane Lee Jensen
Duane Lee Jensen, 69, of Maryville died Thursday, October 3, 2002 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was born and raised in Mishawaka, IN. He was a Korean War Veteran serving in the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jane Jensen; his children, Jackie and Craig Daivs of New Castle, IN, Jim and Jackie Jensen of Indianapolis, IN, Joanne and Chris Brazas of Hampshire, IN; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister and brother-in-law, William and Janet Kremer of Osceola, IN; brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Marge Jensen of Kokomo, IN.
No services are planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Broadway United Methodist Church, 309 E. Broadway, Maryville, TN 37804.

Evelyn A. Quindel
Evelyn A. Quindel, 89, of Elgin passed away Thursday, October 3, 2002 in Provena St. Joseph Hospital.
She was born January 10, 1913 in Ontarioville and was the daughter of William and Lillian Schultz.
She had been employed by the Elgin National Watch Factory and then Illinois Tool Works before retiring. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Elgin and also Women of the Moose Lodge No, 799.
Surviving are her husband, Elmer; three sons, Norman, Kenneth and Gary (Lois) Quindel of Elgin; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four sisters, Florence Earley of CA., Vera Shumilak of Dundee, Irene Anderson of Sycamore and Loretta Beck of Elgin.
preceded in death by her parents; one son, Ronald; four sisters; and two brothers.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday October 7, 2002 at 1:00 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00-8:00 PM in the funeral home. Rev. Herman Christiansen will officiate.

Grace May Shelton
Grace May Shelton, age 93, passed away on Thursday October 3, 2002 at Asta Care Center, Elgin. She was born July 16, 1909 in Sumner, MO., to William and Iva M. (Brown) Boley.
Grace was a resident of Elgin for many years and was employed as a seamstress for Brody Coat Co. until retirement.
She is survived by her daughters, Gladys Katzensky and Joy (Bob) Wade, both of Elgin; seven grandchildren, Judy Stewart of Elgin, David Katzensky of Aurora, Ray Katzensky of Wisconsin, Debbie (Stan) Turski of Colorado, Bonnie (Mike) Potter of Elgin, Holly (Ron) Rieckhoff of California and Robert (Shar) Wade of Fox Lake; eight great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her 1st husband, Ola Sportsman; her 2nd husband, Bill Shelton; two sons, Jimmy and Alvin Sportsman; a daughter, Ellen in infancy; a grandson, Don Katzensky Jr, ; a great-grandson, Ronnie Rieckhoff Jr.; and eight brothers and sisters.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 7, 2002 at 1 PM at the Wait Ross Allanson Funeral Chapel in Elgin. Rev. Sung Ja Lee Moon will officiate. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation after 10 AM on Monday at the chapel until time of services at 1 PM.
Memorials may be made in her name to Wesley Methodist Church of Elgin.
