Burdette Race
Burdette Race, age 98, formerly of Elgin, passed away on Sunday September 22, 2002 at the Manor of Perrysburg in Perrysburg, Ohio. He was born on August 24, 1904 in Aurora, IL., the son of the late J.D. and Carrie (Lintner) Race.
He is survived by his son, Harrison (Lois) of San Carlos, CA.; his daughter, Joanne (J. Burt) Beede of Perrysburg, OH.; five granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ira Race.
He lived in Elgin and was employed by Gas and Electric Utilities for 42 years, as a service repair man. He moved to Perrysburg, Ohio in 1994.
He was very active in community service and received the Elgin Senior Citizen of the Year Award in 1982. Citation for service to: The First United Methodist Church, The Cancer Society, The Elgin Day Care Center, helped establish The Elgin Senior Center, was a founding member of Golden Kiwanis and The Elgin Historical Society. He was a 52 year member of the Mason's Monitor Lounsbury Lodge #522.
Services and Interment will be private.
Memorials may be made to any of his special interests or to a charity of your choice.

Lottie J. Dennison
Lottie J. Dennison, age 71, of Crystal Lake, died Saturday, October 4, 2003 at Katherine Shaw Hospital in Dixon.
She was born May 6, 1932 in Chicago to Joseph and Angeline (nee Potaczek) Nogan. On July 21, 1951 she married Lee W. Dennison in Crystal Lake.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Lee W. Dennison of Crystal Lake; her daughter, Susan (Hal) Gena of Hampshire; two great-grandchildren, Alex and Samantha Gene; two brothers, Lenard (Albina) Norden and Bernard (Linda) Nogan; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by parents; a son, Michael Dennison; and a sister, Sophie Pawlicki.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7, 2003 at the Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave. (Rt. 176), Crystal Lake. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2003 at the funeral home, with Monsignor Daniel Hermes officiating. Interment will be in Crystal Lake Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations would be appreciated by the family to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, OH 44720.

Catharine Ostewig
Catharine Ostewig, 83 of West Dundee, formerly of Forest Park, died Thursday, October 2, 2003 at her home. She was born in Chicago on June 2, 1920, the daughter of George and Catharine (nee Arendt) Martin.
Mrs. Ostewig was a resident of the Dundee area for the past 20 years. She retired after many years as Office Manager of the Forest Park Review Newspaper in Forest Park. Mrs. Ostewig was a member of the St. Catherine of Siena Church, the Siena Seniors, the Dundee Twp. 50+ Club, the Dundee Twp. Senior Citizens Organization and the Forest Park VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #7181.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia M. of West Dundee; her sister, Betty (Donald) Waser of Niles; one niece, Beth (John) Meier of Deer Park; two grand-nieces, Lynn and Susan Meier.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John H. Ostewig on October 25, 1982. They married on August 15, 1942.
Family and friends will meet for Funeral Mass on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Catherine of Siena Church, West Dundee. Burial will follow in the River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. Visitation will be Monday from 3-8 p.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee and on Tuesday in the church from 9:00 a.m. unti the time of Mass. Please omit flowers; memorials may be made to St. Catherine of Siena Church Foundation Fund or the FISH Food Pantry.

Illinois Alexander
Illinois Alexander, 66, of Elgin passed away Monday, October 6, 2003 in his home.
He was born July 5, 1937 in Corinth, Mississippi the son of Oscar and Ardine Miller Alexander.
He had been a resident of Elgin since 1966 and had been employed by U.S. Can as a lithographer before retiring. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was affiliated with Manifold Mercy Christian Center.
Surviving are his wife, Bettie Davis Alexander; four children, Stanley (Artie) Wicks and Joe Henry Wicks both of Corinth, Miss, Marlon (Donya Graham) of Rockford, IL and Mario Alexander of Elgin; six grandchildren; two sisters, Izola Parcham of Washington, D.C. and Pecolia (Curtis) Campbell of Guys, Tenn; a host of foster children; and his special friend, Eddie Wilborn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Ohio Alexander.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, October 9, 2003 at 11 AM at St. James A.M.E. Church, 1100 Summit St., Elgin with Rev. Michael McCall officiating. Burial will be in Abraham Lincoln National cemetery, Elwood, Illinois.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 9 AM until the time of services in the church.
Memorials may be given to the family.

Adella "Della" Heine (nee Clausing)
Adella "Della" Heine (nee Clausing), 88, of Elgin, IL passed away Sunday, October 5, 2003.
She was born June 7, 1915 in Elk Grove Township, IL.
Adella was a member of Immanual United Church of Christ Church and their Ladies Guild.
She is survived by a son, Ralph (Lorraine) of Palatine; daughters, Marian (Warren) Nessler of Genoa, Elaine (Gerald) Pearson of Hampshire; Karen (Roger) Greatslinger of South Elgin, Sandra (Gary) Schwarz of Elgin, Diane (Rick) Hamilton of East Moline and the late Verona; grandchildren, Robert (Debora) Heine, Susan Driggers, Mollie (Todd) Hughes, Jeff (Laurie) Nessler, Tammy (Dan) Pritt, Penny Pearson, Ted Wyman, Kelly Schwarz, Ryan Schwarz, Brian (Robyn) Hamilton and Chad Hamilton; great grandchildren, Bradley and Ashley Heine, Jeremy, Matthew and Kayley Driggers, Travis, Kevin and Rachel Hughes, Nathan Nessler, Eric, Kevin and Brian Pritt.
Adella was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary (nee Mensching) Clausing; her husband, Arthur H. Heine; and three brothers, Arthur, Emil and Raymond Clausing.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, October 9, 2003 at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 1500 Old Church Rd., Streamwood where she will be lying in state from 10 AM until the time of service. Burial will be in the Immanual United Church of Christ cemetery, Streamwood, IL.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 8, 2003 from 3 to 8 PM in the Countryside Funeral Home, 1640 S. Greenmeadows Blvd (at Barrington Rd), Streamwood/Schaumburg, IL, 60107.

Ruth A. Phillips
Ruth A. Phillips, 89 of Streamwood passed away Sunday, October 5, 2003 at Lexington Health Care, Streamwood. She was born August 30, 1914 in Chicago, the daughter of John and Anna Goodyear Benson. She had been a resident of Streamwood since 1958. She had been employed as a legal secretary before retiring.
Surviving are two sons, Steven (Peggy) Phillips of Alpharetta, Georgia; Pat (Jeanne) Phillips of Streamwood, IL; three grandchildren, Jessica (Tim) Williams, Amanda Phillips and Tim Phillips; three great-grandchildren, Elijah, Sage, and Grace.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Wallace Benson.
Memorial visitation will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2003 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the charity of one's choice.

Jeanette M. Sabin
Jeanette M. Sabin, 78, of Hampshire passed away Sunday, October 5, 2003 at Hearthstone Manor in Woodstock.
She was born January 24, 1925 in Elgin, the daughter of Robert and Sarah (Knight) Friel. Jeanette was a 1943 graduate of Plato Center High School and married Charles W. "Charlie" Sabin on June 1, 1946 in Elgin. They were longtime residents of Hampshire and Mrs. Sabin was a member of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church of Hampshire.
Surviving are her children, David (Cheryl) Sabin of Friendship, WI, Brian Sabin of Elgin, and Andrea (Gerard) Schaefer of Crystal Lake; eight grandchildren, Beth (fiance Matthew Turnquist) and Sarah Sabin, Courtney, Matthew and Ryan Sabin, Alison, Kevin and Kaitlyn Schaefer; two sisters, Jessie Fairchild of Montrose, CA and Lyda (Richard) Moore of Henderson, Nevada.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charlie on December 26, 1998; a brother, William Friel and her twin sister, Jean Connery.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m Thursday, October 9, at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 297 E. Jefferson St., Hampshire with Fr. Joseph P. Nicolosi officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery in Elgin.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire with Rosary at 4:15 p.m.
Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to Hearthstone Manor, 920 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock, IL 60098.

Ruby E. Smith
Ruby E. Smith, 85 of Elgin passed away Sunday, October 5, 2003 at Rosewood Care Center, Elgin. She was born March 20, 1918 in Elgin, the daughter of James and Anna Dierschow Ringeisen. She had been a resident of Elgin all of her life and was a graduate of Elgin High School. She had been employed by McGraw Electric, Motorola and Grayline Housewares before retiring.
She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church of Elgin.
Surviving are her daughter, Mary Ann (Pete) Kovacs of Elgin; six grandchildren, Randy (Tammy) Kovacs, Karen Kovacs, Sharon (Brad) Perry, Julie (Jerry) Fisher, Amy (Mike) Young and Matt Kovacs; eight great-grandchildren, Ryan, Lindsay and Lauren Kovacs, Nikki Brand, Deeana Perry, Hayley Fisher, Madeline and Eric Young.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Frances E. "Bud" Smith in 2002.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2003 at 12:00 NOON at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Sung-Ja Lee Moon officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services.

Lucille Evelyn (Wheeler) Lemke
Lucille Evelyn (Wheeler) Lemke, 85, of Dothan, Alabama (formerly of Burnett, TX and Elgin, Illinois) died early Monday, October 6, 2003 at Wesley Manor following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 10, 2003 at the Ward-Wilson Memory Hill Funeral Home Chapel in Dothan. Burial will follow in the Ward-Wilson Memory Hill cemetery with Ward-Wilson Memory Hill Funeral Home directing.
The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Resource Center, 2246 Montgomery Hwy., Dothan, AL 36303.
Mrs. Lemke was born on May 10, 1918 in Elgin, Illinois, the daughter of the late Roy Childs Wheeler and Evelyn Maude Young Wheeler. She grew up in Elgin, Illinois and worked at Elgin Watch Company at an early age. She moved to Burnett, Texas where she lived until July 2002 when she moved to Dothan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Shirley Carroll and Madeline Tennant.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Howard Lemke of Dothan, AL; her daughter, Diane (Richard) Speed of Dothan, AL; her son, Duane (Nancy) Lemke, Elgin, Illinois; five grandchildren, Tammy Thomley of Dothan, AL, Robert Allen Lemke of Colorado Springs, CO, Dale Allen Lemke of Elgin, Illinois, Randy Allen Lemke of Colorado Springs, CO; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas Dillen Speed of Elgin, Illinois and Nichole Ashley Speed of Elgin, Illinois.

Mary E. Williams
Mary E. Williams, 85, of Elgin was called to heaven Monday, October 6, 2003.
She was born December 4, 1917 in Saline Mines, Illinois, the oldest child of Benjamin and Bessie Williams Bodenbach.
Mary was a former resident of Rosiclare, IL and she relocated to Elgin, IL and made her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Fran and John Hendrix for the last five years. She was employed by the Department of Mental Health for over 30 years and retired from the Elgin Mental Health Care Center in 1979. Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elizabethtown, IL.
Left behind to mourn her are her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Fran (John) Hendrix of South Elgin, IL; three loving grandchildren, Tara (Kevin) Bird of Elgin, Glenn (Scooter) Harrison of Herrin and Michael (Gretchen) Harrison of Rosiclare; four precious great grandchildren, Tressa Bird of Elgin, Cory and Dustin Harrison of Herrin and Brooklyn Mae Harrison of Rosiclare.
Welcoming her to her heavenly home are her husband of 49 years, Hugh C. Williams; her daughter, Naomi Harrison; her parents; her brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Maggie Bodenbach; and her son in infancy.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2003 at 2 PM at Hosick Funeral Home, Rosiclare with Rev. Ed Lafferty officiating. Burial will be in Cave Hill cemetery, Cave in Rock, Illinois.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 1 PM until the time of services. Laird Funeral Home, Elgin is in charge of local arrangements.

Nathan W. Baum
Nathan W. Baum, 20, of Stuart, FL, died Friday, October 4, 2002.
He was born in Elgin.
He was a graduate of Martin County High School Class of 2000. He was active in football and Little League baseball.
Survivors include his parents, William and Theresa (Funk) Baum of Stuart, FL; his half brother, Shane Baum of Stuart, FL; two half sisters, Roxanne Steichen of Stuart, FL and Lias Gill of McHenry, IL; maternal grandparents, Arthur and Margaret Funk of Elgin, IL; and paternal grandmother, Betty L. McKeown of Elgin.
Friends may call Wednesday, October 9th from 7 to 9 PM at the Aycock Funeral Home in Stuart.
A Funeral Service will be Thursday, October 10, 2002 at 11 AM at the funeral home, with burial at Fernhill Memorial Gardens, Stuart.
Arrangements are under the direction of Aycock Funeral Home, Stuart.

Edward G. Heyden
Edward G. Heyden, 79, of Elgin passed away Sunday, October 6, 2002 at Rosewood Health Care Center. He was born May 31, 1923 in Chicago, the son of Edward H. and Bertha Lauer Heyden.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a member of the Elgin Moose for 39 years, and a member of Knights of Columbus. He retired from Twinplex Manufacturing in Wood Dale. Formerly employed at Flexonics. He was a tool and dye maker.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Josephine; one daughter, Patricia (Raymond) Truty of Belvidere; one son, Edward (Laurie) of Indiana; five grandchildren, Brad, Robbie, Angela, Tommy and Danny; and one great-grandson, Christian.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday October 10, 2002 from Madison Funeral Home at 9:30 AM to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Elgin, where Mass will be celebrated. Father John Earl will officiate. Burial will be private at Mt. Hope cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 PM at Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St., Elgin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Elgin Moose.
