Barbara J. Volpp
Barbara J. Volpp, 79, of Burlington passed away Friday morning, October 10, 2003 at Oakcrest Retirement Center in Dekalb.
She was born November 5, 1923 in Sycamore the daughter of Harry and Wilda (Knappenberger) Carlson. Barbara married Spencer A. Volpp on February 9, 1946 in Sycamore and they farmed on the Volpp Centenniel Farm in Burlington Twp. all their married life.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband and spending winters in south Texas. They were members of the Northwinds Trailer Club and enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing cards.
Mrs. Volpp was a member of the Burlington United Methodist Church, the South Burlington Ladies Aid and the Charter Grove Grange.
Surviving are her children, Linda (Jon) Haines of Burlington, Jackie (Jerry) Bowman of Sycamore, Alan (Gayle) Volpp of Burlington; seven grandchildren, Deanna Roby and Doug (Kelly) Roby both of Sycamore, WI, Jeff (Shonna) Haines of Bartlett, Ryan (Deanne) Haines of Menomonee Falls, WI, Heather (Dennis) Nobbs of Hampshire, Holly (Zack) Stanis of Genoa, Adam Volpp of Burlington; five great-grandchildren, Krista and Becca Roby, Olivia Nobbs, Hunter and Skylar Stanis; a bother-in-law Harold Jones of Burlington and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Spencer on January 16, 1992, son Roger in 1946, sisters Gladys Jones and Eileen Johnson, and nephew Denton Johnson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, Oct. 13, at the Burlington United Methodist Church, corner of Center & South Sts., Burlington with Rev. Brian William officiating. Burial will be in the South Burlington cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 PM Sunday at the Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire and at the church on Monday prior to the services from 10 to 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be directed to Burlington United Methodist Church.

Anna "Nana" Gagliano
Anna "Nana" Gagliano, 71 of Phoenix, AZ. passed away Wednesday October 9, 2002 in Phoenix. She was born October 12, 1930 in Chicago, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Ottolino) Scivittaro.
Surviving are her daughter, Patricia Runge of AZ; her son Dominick (Rhonda) Gagliano of AZ, her grand daughters Traci (Donald( Hoffman of Kingston, IL, Tamara Sharpe of AZ, Jodi Runge of Pennyslvania, Amy Runge of AZ, four great grandchildren and one sister.
preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Dominick, her daughter Mary Ann.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2002 at 1:00P.M. at Queen of Heaven cemetery, Hillside, Illinois. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 until 8:00PM in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St. Elgin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Arizona Hospice 13714 North Plaza del Rio, Peoria, Arizona 85381.

Louis H. Haywd
Louis H. Hayward, 53, of West Dundee, IL passed away Friday, October 11, 2002 in Sherman Hospital.
He was born May 12, 1949 in Maquoketa, Iowa and was the son of George and Darien (Scharff) Hayward. Louis had worked at Home to Home Real Estate in Elgin, and Walmart in Elgin. He was a member of the Dubuque Men's Association of Dubuque, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Janice (Farrey) of West Dundee, whom he married on October 14, 1967; three children, Kathy (Michael) Hayward-Gukeisen of Dubuque, IA, Vicki (Jeremy) Boyer of Sleepy Hollow, IL and Laura (Michael) Dienhart of West Dundee, IL; three grandchildren, Jena, Kaizer and Callum; his mother of Dubuque, IA; two brothers, Larry Hayward of Bolivar, MO and Wade (Kathy) Hayward of Dubuque, IA; three sisters, Susan Hayward and Karla Schramm both of Dubuque, IA and Elaine (Larry) Flagel of Maquoketa, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 14, 2002 at 1 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, 120 W. Third St. (Corner of Third and Oregon), West Dundee with Pastor Bruce Meissner officiating. Burial will be in Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 4 to 8 PM in the funeral home, and on Monday from 11:30 AM until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Louis H. Hayward Memorial to be established at a later date.

June P. Heichel
June P. Heichel, 71, of Elgin passed away Friday, October 11, 2002 in Provena St. Joseph Hospital.
She was born June 28, 1931 in LaGrange, IL, the daughter of Charles and Pauline Otto.
She had been a resident of Elgin since 1975 and was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church of Elgin.
Surviving are a daughter, Nancy (Wade) Donovan of St. Charles, IL; three son's, Stephen (Carol) Heichel of Franklin Park, IL, Chuck Heichel of Elgin and Glenn (Kimberly) Heichel of Elgin; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Jean (Arthur) Stuenkel of Hendersonville, North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, E. Joseph in 1989; and a brother, Wesley.
Funeral Mass will be held Monday at 11 AM in St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1625 W. Highland Ave, Elgin. Burial will in Mt. Hope cemetery.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 4 to 9 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St, Elgin and then on Monday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church from 10:30 AM until time of the Mass.

Robert O. Schaeffer
Robert O. Schaeffer, our beloved husband, father and grandfather, left us and went to the arms of our loving Father in Heaven on Thursday, October 3, 2002. He was a remarkable man, dedicated to his Lord, his family, his work and his community.
Services were held on Monday October 7, 2002 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Moline. Burial was in Moline Memorial Park, Moline.
Bob was born on June 21, 1928 in Elgin, IL., the son of Ollie and Clara Bremer Schaeffer. He married Lois Menke on June 24, 1950.
He attended Purdue University, receiving a degree in civil engineering. He began his career with Stevens-Adamson Manufacturing in Aurora, IL., where he was involved in the design and development of the moving sidewalk and in 1954, supervised the installation of the first moving ramp at Disneyland in California. He joined Montgomery Elevator in 1963 when it started manufacturing escalators. He became vice-president of manufacturing in 1972, then vice-president of purchasing in 1984.
Active in civic affairs, Bob was involved in the Moline Plan Commission in the 1960's. He was an Alderman in Moline from 1971 to 1973. Following a move to Hampton, he became a Village Trustee from 1975 to 1981 and Mayor from 1981 to 1982. After moving back to Moline, he was one of the first members of the city Project Management Team and was also a representative to Renew Moline until 1993.
Bob was a board member of the National Association of Elevator Safety Authorities and was the longest standing member of the National Escalator A17 Code Committee.
Bob was a member of the Moline Exchange Club. He also started the local chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis National Society.
He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, where he served in various capacities over the years, as congregation president, secretary and most recently as property chairman.
Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lois; his children and spouses, Cynthia and Robert Westmoreland of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Kathryn Gerendas of Moline, William and Patricia Schaeffer of Moline and Joan Hull of Clarendon Hills, IL.; his grandchildren, Katherine and Grant Hull, John Gerendas, Kristen and Hans Schaeffer; and one brother and sister-in-law, Leon and Donna Schaeffer of Naples Florida.

Dorothy Helen Perlman
Dorothy Helen Perlman, 85, of St. Charles, formerly of Elgin, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2003, at Sherman West Court, Elgin. She was born October 31, 1917, in Sheboygan, WI, the daughter of Ben and Anna Stein Perlman.
She had been a resident of Chicago for years where she was a private secretary to the president of Continental Coffee Co., before retiring. She had been a resident of Elgin for the past 23 years. She was a member of Congregation Kneseth Israel of Elgin.
Surviving are her brothers, Milton (Dorothy) Perlman of Elgin, Raymond (Ruth) Perlman of West End, NC; nephews David (Sandi) Perlman of St. Charles, Corey (Randi) Perlman of Elgin; nieces Nancy (John) Simonds of Lees Summit, MO, Leslie (Joe) Schaitberger of Alpharetta, GA; great-nieces and great-nephews, Marc Perlman of South Elgin, Jason Simonds of Lees Summit, MO, Jessica Windish of Charlotte, NC, Samantha Schaitberger of Alpharetta, GA, Andrew and Lane Lessman of Cardiff By The Sea, CA and Alex and Aaron Perlman of Elgin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Sophia Perlman and niece, Sheila Perlman.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 14, 2003, at 2:00 P.M. at Congregation Kneseth Israel, 330 Division St., Elgin with Hazzan Alan Smolen officiating. Burial will be private on Wednesday at Sheboygan Hebrew cemetery, Sheboygan, WI. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of services.
Memorials may be given to the charity of one's choice.

Charles J. Schmitt
Charles J. Schmitt, 90, of Elgin, died Friday at home surrounded by his family. Born in Union, Missouri of humble beginnings, his work life began as a farmer in Hampshire in the early 40's. He then worked as a mechanic on farm equipment at Lakes Implement in Barrington, IL. He was a skilled and accomplished carpenter contractor in both residential and commercial properties. He started his own business, Charles J. Schmitt & Sons, in 1953. Charles was an active life-long member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Elgin and a member of various parish organizations.
He is survived by his brother, Henry Schmitt of Elkhorn, WI; seven children, Richard (Mary) Harris, Jane (Tom) Brown, Philip (Catherine) Schmitt, Sharon (Philip) Fitzmaurice, Mary (Marshall ) Kratz, Ralph (Nancy McCoy) Schmitt, Alice (Douglas) Lombard; eight grandchildren, Mellisa and Bradley Brown, Heidi (Michael) Franquelli and Matthew Schmitt; Brenton Elvin; Kevin and Patrick Kratz; Jessica Lumbard.
He was preceded in death by Marjorie, his wife of 52 years; his parents; two brothers and one sister.
Visitation is Tuesday, October 14, 2003, from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. with Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass is on Wednesday, October 15, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Robert Willhite and Fr. Mirslaw Reikowski officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Hope cemetery.
Memorials may be made in Charles' memory to Provena St. Joseph Hospice.

Edna Dailey
Edna Dailey, 93, of Elgin, passed away Monday, October 14, 2002 at G.C.H. Medical Center in Sterling, IL. She was born March 2, 1909 to John and Merry Hodges Bellows.
Survivors include sons, Dan of Millington and John of Utah; granddaughters, Donna of Sterling and Gena of Utah.
Private services were held on Wednesday at Stout-Madison Funeral Home. Private burial in Minnesota. There will be no visitation.

Willis E. "Bud" Hartwell
Willis E. "Bud" Hartwell, 71, of Elgin passed away Monday, October 14, 2002 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. He was born April 17, 1931 in Chicago the son of James and Martha Breyfogle Hartwell Sr. He had been a resident of Elgin for the past eight years. He was in public accounting for 26 years and last worked as Director of Reimbursement for Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge before retiring.
He coached little league baseball for 17 years in South Holland, IL.
Surviving are his wife, Jean Osborne Hartwell whom he married on December 16, 1950; daughter, Susan J. (Michael) Kilgore of Schiller Park, IL; five sons, Timothy E. (Susan) Hartwell of Brown Deer, WI, Thomas M. (Cheryl) Hartwell of Elgin, Theodore L. Hartwell of Arlington Heights, Forrest L. "Woody" (Regina) Hartwell of Peoria, IL and Todd A. Hartwell of Elgin; 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Terrance and one brother, James Hartwell.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials can be sent to Templo Calvario, 270 E. Chicago St., Elgin.

Louie G. Leone
Louie G. Leone, 68, of San Marcos, CA formerly of the Dundee area died Thursday, October 10, 2002 at the Tri-Cities Medical Center in Oceanside, CA.
He was born in Elgin, IL on May 18, 1934. He was the son of Louis and Frances (nee Buck) Leone.
Louie was a 35 year resident of the San Diego California area. He was a cement finisher by trade. He served in the United States Army.
He is survived by three children, Loretta (Dennis) O'Mally of Crystal Lake, Gene (Debra) Leone of Crystal Lake and Barbara Smith of Edison, NJ; six grandchildren, Kristin, Antoinette, Donald, Christopher, Sean and Shelby; his longtime friend and companion Wanda Barr of San Marcos, CA; four sisters, Virginia Burri, Rose (Bob) Parrott, Bella (Joe) Montonye all of Florida and Ellen (Adeie) Pearson of Lake in the Hills; two brothers, John of California and David (Sandy) of Florida. Many nieces, nephews and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and a half brother Charles Lampman. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, at 11;00 a.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Burial will follow in the Dundee twp. East cemetery, East Dundee. Visitation will be on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. in funeral home.

Helen D. Minke
Helen D. Minke, age 98, of Crystal Lake, formerly of Chicago, died Monday, October 14, 2002 at the Fountains Healthcare Center, Crystal Lake. She was born in Chicago on January 24, 1904.
She was a former 25 year volunteer for the Little Brothers of the Poor.
She is survived by one son, William D. (Vivian) Minke of Carpentersville ; one granddaughter, Lori (Jack) Beery of Algonquin; two great-granddaughters, Ashley and Jessica.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband William R. Minke in 1976 and two brothers, Carl and Fred Miller.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 9:00AM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Burial will follow in the Ridgewood cemetery, Des Plaines. Visitation will be on Thursday from 6-9PM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee.

Donovan R. Senger
Donovan R. Senger, 86, of West Dundee, died Monday October 14, 2002 at Sherman Hospital, Elgin. He was born in Elgin on August 4, 1916, the son of Ray W. and Ada J. (nee Weybright) Senger.
He was a life long resident of the Dundee, Elgin areas. He attended Elgin Schools and graduated from Elgin High School in 1935. He was a graduate of Manchester College in Indiana and earned his degree in chemistry. For 49 years, he worked as an Application Engineer in the Water Treatment Industry, having worked for Elgin Softener and Culligan Water Softener Companies. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, West Dundee and had served on the Village of West Dundee Planning Commission. Don was an avid gardener and enjoyed photography.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Beverly Senger. They married on October 5, 1946; three sons, David of Houston, Texas, William (Yvette) of Libertyville and Robert of Palatine; two grandchildren, Matthew and Kristine.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial Services will be held on Thursday October 17, 2002 at 11:00 AM in the First United Methodist Church, 318 W. Main St., West Dundee. The Rev. Eun-Hye Choi, Pastor, will officiate. Private family burial will be in the Little Woods cemetery, Wayne.
Please omit flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of West Dundee or to the charity of ones choice.
