Paul Eugene Tanner
Paul Eugene Tanner, 84, of Elgin passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2003 in Provena St. Joseph Hospital. He was born July 18, 1918 in Marion, IL and was the son of William and Lucy Tanner. He had been a resident of Elgin for many years and graduated from Elgin High School with the Class of 1935. He graduated from the University of Missouri at Rolla, MO with a degree in Civil Engineering. He had been employed by the Illinois Department of Transportation for 30 years before retiring and then was employed by H.W. Lochner Inc. for 10 years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army and received the rank of Master Sergeant. He served with the 129th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, Bougainville-Solomon Island, Luzon-Philippine Islands, Fort Stotsenburg, Clark Field, Walled City-Baguio, Manila-Aparri, Cagayan Valley. He received the Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Elgin, member and past commander of American Legion Post No. 57 of Elgin, member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1307 of Elgin, member of B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge No. 737 of Elgin and member of American Society of Civil Engineers.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Tanner, whom he married on August 22, 1953, two daughters, Kathryn Tanner and her husband William Rolph of Elgin and Sharon Tanner of Elgin, one son, Richard (Janine) Tanner of Sleepy Hollow, IL and three grandchildren, Heather (Joseph) DiGangi, Michael and Mark Tanner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Jesse in infancy and one brother, James Audrey Tanner.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Peter Boeve officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery. Visitation will be in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and then at the church on Friday from 12:30 p.m. until time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church, 240 Standish St., Elgin, IL 60123.

Virginia A. Butt
Virginia A. Butt, 82, of Rochester, IN passed away Monday, January 6, 2003 in Life Care Center of Rochester, Rochester, IN.
She was born April 29, 1920 in Richmond, CA, the daughter of Roy Madeen and Vina Gehrke Madeen Meyer (step Father, Ernest Meyer raised her).
She had resided in the Rochester community since August, 2001, coming from South Bend, IN.
On March 25, 1947, she married O. C. Butt in Lomita, CA and he preceded her in death on June 26, 1971. She was a Certified Nurse Assistant and had worked at several nursing homes in the Dundee, IL area.
Survivors include her daughter, Nancy (Albert) Brasseur of South Bend, IN; two sons, Alan (Lisa) Butt of Granger, IN and William Butt of Syracuse, IN; a granddaughter, Julie Brasseur of South Bend, IN; and two grandsons, Kyle Butt of Haskell, OK and A. J. Brasseur of South Bend, IN.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step father; and husband.
A Memorial Visitation will be held Saturday, January 11, 2003 from 3 to 5 PM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to: "Feed the Children Fund", c/o Granger Community Church, 620 E. University Drive, Granger, IN, 46530.
Local arrangements were handled by Foster and Good Funeral Home, Rochester, IN.

Alice Gagliardi
Alice Gagliardi, 79, of Kenosha, WI passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at Brookside Care Center.
Born January 6, 1924 in Kenosha, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Mary (DeLuca) Ferraro. She attended local schools and was a graduate of Bradford High School. She resided in Michigan for 12 years until 1965 when she moved to Dundee, IL. She returned to Kenosha in 1998.
On February 15, 1947 she married Jerry Gagliardi at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on February 18, 2000.
She was employed as an executive secretary for Technical Publishing, a subsidiary of Dun and Bradstreet in Barrington, IL until her retirement in 1986.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading, painting and writing.
Surviving are a son, Charles (Kathryn) Gagliardi of Racine; one daughter, Lisa (Terry) Adams of Castle Rock, CO; two brothers, Joseph (Carol) Ferraro of Kenosha, Rudolph (Dolores) Ferraro of Kenosha; one sister, Louise (Ray) Camosy of Kenosha; and four grandchildren, Mary Gagliardi, Sean Adams, Christine Adams and Ariel Adams.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 13 at 9:30 a.m. from the Proko Funeral Home, 5111-60th St., Kenosha, WI. Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 45th St. and 22nd Ave., Kenosha, WI. Entombment to follow at All Saints Mausoleum, Pleasant Prairie, WI. Visitation will be held on Sunday at Proko Funeral Home from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alzheimer's Association of SE Wisconsin would be appreciated by the family.

Maria Alena Muzard
Maria Alena Muzard, age 51, of Elgin. Beloved wife of Craig. Loving mother of Benjamin, David, Karmen Ekdahl, Angelica (Joe) Robinson, stepmother of Nicole Elizabeth and Kimberly Louise Muzard. Grandmother of four. Dearest sister of Cliserio Marino, Jr., Rebecca Gomez, Sylvia Sandoval, Israel Marino, Julia Dingman and Jessine Mondragon. Also many nieces and nephews.

Ruth M. Proesel
Ruth M. Proesel, 83, of West Dundee died Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin.
She was born in East Dundee on September 18, 1919, the daughter of Frank and Emilie (nee Reko) Goers.
She was a life long resident of the Dundee area, a former many year employee of the David C. Cook Publishing Co. She was a longtime and very active member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of West Dundee.
She is survived by two children, Steven (Pat) Proesel of Irving, Texas and Mary (Roger) Rathjen of West Dundee; two grandchildren, Ben Rathjen of Dallas, Texas and Sarah (Bob) Welzien of Carpentersville; two great grandsons, Joey and Jimmy Welzien; a brother, Otto Goers of Sun City, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John R. Proesel on February 8, 1987; two sisters, Hilda Kostecki and Margaret Erickson; and three brothers, Edwin Goers, William Goers and Albert Goers.
Funeral Services will be on Saturday at 2 PM in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, West Dundee. Burial will be private in the Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee.
Visitation will be on Saturday in the church from Noon until time of Service.
Please omit flowers, Memorials may be made to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, West Dundee. The Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee is in charge of arrangements.

Irene E. Short
Irene E. Short, 87, of South Elgin passed away Thursday, January 9, 2003 in Sherman Hospital in Elgin. She was born April 4, 1915 in Elgin and was the daughter of John and Susan Tasnadi.
Survivors include two sons, Bob (Rosa) Short of Carpentersville, IL and Richard (Patricia) Short of South Elgin, four grandchildren, Kelli (Jim) Ambroso of California, Kathi Short of West Dundee, IL, Kristin Short of South Elgin, IL and Rick (Karyn) Short of Peoria, IL, eight great-grandchildren and her sister, Helen Christensen of Elgin.
preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edward Short in 1997, her granddaughter, Loren Short and two brothers.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2003 from 2-4 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be private. Omission of flowers is requested, with memorials made to the American Cancer Society.

Mary Ann Botterman
Mary Ann Botterman, 69, of Huntley passed away Friday, January 9, 2004 in Rockford. She was born November 25, 1934 in Schaumburg to Alvin and Ruth (Papenbrock) Botterman.
She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Huntley for over 40 years. Her passions were knitting, listening to music, playing games and visiting with friends and relatives. She will be forever remembered for her hearty laugh and her generosity towards friends and family alike. Her legacy lives on through the hundreds of Christmas stockings she knitted with love. Her home was always open to those who wanted to chat, play Aggravation or lose to her at "Screwy Louie".
Surviving are her brother, Ronald (Mary) Botterman of Marengo; sisters, Irene Colson of Belvidere and Doris (Bill) Martin of Gilberts; six nieces and nephews; and eleven great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Ruth; and a special nephew, Bill Martin.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Monday, January 12, 2004 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 11008 N. Church St., Huntley with the Rev. Charles W. Kittel officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park in Elgin.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 PM Sunday at the James A. O'Connor Funeral Home, 11603 E. Main St., Huntley and at the Church on Monday prior to Services from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.
Memorial Contributions in her name may be directed to the Trinity Lutheran Church in Huntley.

Jose Luis Jaimes
Jose Luis Jaimes, 43, of Streamwood, died Wednesday at Sherman Hospital.
Jose loved to read, and was an avid sports and fitness fan. Jose loved his family, and worked two jobs.
Jose is preceded in death by his father Jose Cruz Jaimes.
Jose is survived by his beloved wife Maria of 20 years; one son Emmanuel; two daughters, Anna Belen, and Selene, all at home.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 10, 2004 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the O'Connor - Leetz Funeral Home, Elgin.
Burial will be in Cuautla, Morelos Mexico, Tuesday, January 13, 2004.

Cyrene H. Smith
Cyrene H. Smith, 88, of Elgin, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2004 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin, surrounded by her family. She was born December 12, 1915 in Hannibal, Missouri, the daughter of Ella Mae Coleman and George C. Smith Sr.
Cyrene had been a resident of Elgin for most of her life and attended Elgin Public Schools and was a graduate of Elgin High School in 1934. She also attended Ellis Business College in Elgin. She had been employed at St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin and the Elgin Mental Health Care Center before retiring.
To cherish her memories, are her daughters, Beverly (Odessa) Ross, Joyce (Willie) Scruggs, Dianne (Rev. Michael) McCall, all of Elgin, Aretta (Dr. T. DeWitt) Smith of Atlanta, GA; two sons, Dionne (Linda) Smith and Gregory Smith, both of Elgin; two daughters-in-law, Letitia Smith of Chicago and Jeri Smith of Elgin; 29 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Juanita A. Anderson, of Elgin; and a brother, John L. (Murial) Smith of West Orange, NJ. Cyrene remained a beloved aunt to several nieces, nephews; and a friend to many.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Alonzo Clinton Jr., Leonard Walter, William Thomas and Sheldon Stanley; a daughter in infancy; their father, Alonzo C. Smith Sr; grandsons, Todd Clinton Smith, Darryl Warren Ross and John Rhyce Scruggs-Bagley; granddaughter, Jaylin Rhyce Scruggs-Eaton; a brother, George C. Smith Jr; and devoted daughter-in-law, Vicki Lynn Smith.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 13, 2004 at 12:00 Noon at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Dr. T. DeWitt Smith of Atlanta, Georgia officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 11:00 AM until the time of services in the funeral home.

Josephine Louise Blietz
Josephine Louise Blietz, 87, of Elgin passed away Thursday, January 9, 2003 in Sherman Hospital. She was born October 11, 1915 in McHenry Co. and was the daughter of Archibald and Josephine Anderson. Resident of Elgin most of her life and had been employed by the Elgin National Watch Co. before retiring. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Carol Holder of Elgin, two grandchildren, Kathy (John) Angele of Cary, IL and Brian (Lisa) Wilkinson of Fairview Hts., IL, five great grandchildren, Kristy and Michael Angele and Faith, Heather and Matthew Wilkinson, one sister, Frances Pufhal of Belvidere, IL and one brother, Kenneth (Mickey) Anderson of Los Angeles, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clifford in 1995, two daughters, Jo Ann Blietz and Bonnie Wilkenson and two brothers, Roy and George Anderson.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:30 a.m. in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Olin Sletto officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and then at the church on Monday from 11 a.m. until time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 357 Division St., Elgin, IL 60120.
