Wanda E. Montgomery
Wanda E. Montgomery, 74, formerly of Cincinnati, OH passed away January 13, 2003 at Sherman Hospital. Wanda loved the Lord and had a special kind spirit, always helping children and others in the community. She loved to nurture stray cats. Nanny will be deeply missed.
Wanda was born August 9, 1928 in Cincinnati, OH to Veronta and Gertrude Cave.
Survivors include one son, Leon (Lorraine) Montgomery of Elgin, two granddaughters, Liane Allen and Liana Montgomery Grissette, both of Elgin, two great grandchildren, Noah and Naomi Grissette, both of Elgin, one brother, Veronta Cave of Cincinnati; one sister, Melba Johnson of Philadelphia and a host of dear nieces and nephews.
preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Leon Montgomery Sr. and parents.
Services will be held at O'Connor and Homeier Funeral Home, 364 Division St. Elgin Friday, January 17, 2003. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Grissette officiating. Burial will be at Bluff City cemetery. (847) 741-1400.

Edwin J. Urban
Edwin J. Urban, 88, of Huntley, formerly of Lake Wales, FL, passed away Wednesday morning, January 15, 2003 at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb.
He was born April 5, 1914 in Chicago, the son of Wenzel and Emma (Matusek) Urban. Ed married Grace B. Newhouse at the St. Odillo Catholic Church in Berwyn on November 9, 1940. They resided in the Berwyn area for 34 years before moving to Palmyra, WI and later to Lake Wales, FL. They have resided in Huntley since 2001.
Mr. Urban was employed by the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad for over 40 years retiring in 1974. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and photography.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Huntley and the Knights of Columbus Chapter in Whitewater, WI.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Grace; daughter Bonnie Bradbury of Huntley; son Edwin Jr. (Kathy) Urban of Hampshire; six grandchildren , five great-grandchildren, a sister, Irene (Tom) Gorey of LaGrange Park; and a brother, Elmer (Charlotte) Urban of McHenry.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James Urban; and his son-in-law, James Bradbury.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday January 18, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Rd. (enter off Kreutzer) in Huntley. Burial will be in the St. Charles
Borromeo Catholic cemetery in Hampshire.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire and also prior to Mass on Saturday at the Church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Masses or memorials in his name may be directed to St. Mary Catholic Church of Huntley.

Hilda M. Westerman
Hilda M. Westerman, 83, of Galesburg, IL, formerly of Elgin, IL and Mountain View, MO passed away Sunday, January 12, 2003 in Galesburg. She was born June 19, 1919 in DuPage County, IL, near Addison, the daughter of William and Mathilda Marschall Westermann. She had been employed by Illinois Bell Telephone Co. for 31 years and also Wilbs Fix It Shop in Elgin for 20 years before retiring. She had been a resident of Elgin for 33 years before moving to Mountain View in 1988.
She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Addison. She was a former member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Elgin, where she had taught Sunday School for several years.
Surviving are two nieces, Jean Adaskevich and Dawn Conolly.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Wilb Westermann.
Funeral Services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Martin Balzer officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Building Fund.

Laura Arnold
Laura Arnold, nee Turk, passed away on January 6 in Tucson, AZ, as a result of a stroke. She was born April 28, 1917, and graduated in 1935 from high school in Gays Mill, WI. During WWII, she worked at Operadio, which became DuKane Corp. in St. Charles, Illinois. In 1947, she married Kenneth Arnold in Elgin, IL. After her husband's death in 1958, she moved to Geneva, IL where she was a waitress at The Diner and Karen's Swedish Tea Room. In 1987 she helped a friend move to Tucson, AZ and ended up staying there herself. Laura never went anywhere without her camera. She used it to record other people's lives and she always made sure to send a copy. In this way, she made hundreds of friends, many who continued to correspond until her passing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Delilah Turk, nee Copus, and her husband, Kenneth; two daughters, Marvelene Palm of Tucson and Patricia (Matt) Leonard of St. Charles and two sons, Michael (Alice) Arnold of Elgin and Scott Arnold of Geneva as well as 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren survive her.
Services were private.
Memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 651 W. Washington Blvd., Suite 400, Chicago, IL 60661 or American Stroke Association, National Center, 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75231.

Woodrow Howard "Woody" Boyer
Woodrow Howard "Woody" Boyer, 88, of Elgin, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2004, at Sherman Hospital, Elgin. He was born December 12, 1915, in Kokomo, Indiana, the son of John H. and Bertie Dial Boyer.
He had been a resident of Elgin for most of his life and was a graduate of Elgin High School Class of 1935. He was sports editor of the Courier News from July 1, 1935 to April 21, 1947, with 3 years leave to serve with the U.S. Army Air Corps in W.W. II. He was editor-manager of the Watch World, monthly magazine of the Elgin National Watch Co. from April 1947 until December 31, 1956, when he entered the investment securities business. He was with F.S. Yantis & Co., and was vice president of Mid-America Bond & Share Co. before joining Blunt, Ellis & Loewi, Inc. in 1970 and retired as Senior vice-president of Kemper Securities, Inc. in 1990. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Elgin. He had been a member of the Elgin Rotary Club since 1947, serving as president in 1956. He had been a member of the Elgin County Club since 1966. He was the first president of the Elgin Sports Hall of Fame. He was a trustee of the Elgin YMCA and had served on the board of directors of Oak Crest Residence for 10 years. He also served on the boards of Camp Edwards and the Elgin YMCA. He was Elgin Civil Defense Director from 1957 to 1964. He was a member of Elks Lodge 737 of Elgin.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce, whom he married in 1969; son, Kevin Boyer of Belvidere; step-daughter Sharon Stark of Milwaukee, WI; three step-sons, Dr. Michael (Barbara) Hayward of Barrington, Craig (Donna) Hayward of Elgin and Joel (Teri) Hayward of Janesville, WI; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Thora (whom he married in 1940) in 1967; son, Keith Boyer in 1948; one brother and five sisters.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 17 at 11:00 A.M. at First United Methodist Church, 216 E. Highland Ave., Elgin with Dr. Larry Pickens officiating. Burial will be in private in River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. Memorial Visitation will be in the church Saturday from 10:30 A.M. until the time of services.
Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church or the Alzheimers Association of Greater Chicago, Skokie.
Laird Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Daniels
Dorothy Daniels (nee Schuld), age 86 of Cherry Hill, NJ, formerly of Elgin died January 14, 2004.
Beloved wife of the late Everett. Devoted mother of Lloyd Jeffrey (Char) Daniels of Moose Lake, MN, Kate Graham of Cherry Hill, NJ, and Jan (Cathy) Daniels of Elgin, IL. Loving grandmother of Gary, Jerry, Amy, and Carissa; great-grandchild Ashley and pre-deceased grandson Christopher Graham.
Dorothy was a long time member of First United Methodist Church of Elgin. She was also dress shop manager at Joseph Spiess Co. in Elgin.
Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 4709 Golf Rd. Suite 1015, Skokie, IL 60076. Funeral services private under the direction of Murray-Paradee Funeral Home, Cherry Hill, NJ.

Elizabeth "Betsy" June Edwards
Elizabeth "Betsy" June Edwards, 83, formerly of Carpentersville, passed from this world on Monday, January 12 at Valley Hi Nursing Facility in Heartland, IL. She was the only child of Michael and Anna (Nelson) Mahoney of Carpentersville. She attended Saint Catherine's Grade School and Dundee High School. She married Milton L. Edwards, her high school sweetheart, on January 25, 1938. Their union of 56 years was blessed with six children.
They resided in Carpentersville until retirement when they moved to Port Charlotte, FL, returning to Illinois in 1991.
She is survived by Thomas (Roslyn) of Fontana, WI, David (Marge) of West Dundee, Terry (Cathy) of Friendship, WI, Stephen (Cindy) of South Elgin, Craig (Susan) of Eden Prairie, MN, and Kim Marie (Charles) Lienhard of Wonder Lake. She also leaves thirteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am Saturday January 31 at St Catherine Church in West Dundee. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Saint Catherine's Church for Masses, McHenry County Hospice or Valley Hi.

Judith Ann Flannery
Judith Ann Flannery, age 62, of Dundee, passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2004 in Mankato, Minnesota. She was born April 25, 1941 in Milan, IL., the daughter of Joseph Flannery and Bernice (Flannery) Cilek.
She had been a long time resident of Dundee and was an avid bird watcher. Her last request was to be reunited with her mama.
She is survived by her stepfather, Frank Cilek; one sister, Shirley Boor; and several nieces and nephews, whom she dearly loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Harold, Joseph and William.
Private burial will be at St. Mary's cemetery, Gilberts. Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Nursing Home (Activity Dept.) 14 South Bend Ave., Mankato, MN. 56001.
Local arrangements were handled by the Miller Funeral Home, 504 W. Main St., West Dundee. (847)426-3436.

Dorothie Dixon Morgan Hastings
Dorothie Dixon Morgan Hastings, 87, of Elgin, formerly of Carpentersville, died on Monday, January 12, 2004 at the Apostolic Christian Resthaven in Elgin.
She was born on January 18, 1916 in Corth County, Missouri. She was the daughter of William and Mabel (nee Nash) Morgan.
For many years, Mrs. Hastings and her late husband, Marvin O., were co-owners and co-operators of Floyds Restaurant in Carpentersville. She was a member of the Dundee Lioness Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Jacquelyn (John) Coleman of Water Island, St. Thomas, The Virgin Islands; her granddaughters, Tamara Arthur of New Hampshire, Elizabeth (Keith) Stewart of Germany and Jennifer of Colorado; her great grandchildren, Dylan Arthur and Tara Elizabeth Stewart.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 60 years, Marvin O., whom she married November 26, 1935. He died on May 2, 1996; and a brother, Joseph Morgan.
Funeral Services will be on Saturday at 1:30 PM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Interment will follow in the Dundee Township cemetery, East Dundee.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 12:30 PM until time of services.
Please omit flowers, memorials may be made to either the Apostolic Christian Resthaven or the American Cancer Society.

William R. Schreiner
William R. Schreiner, 66, of Elgin passed away January 2, 2004 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital. He was born January 18, 1937 and was the son of Ronald and Leida (Oberly) Schreiner.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Nancy; two grandchildren, Henry Ronald Jr. and Katlyn Schreiner; three sisters, Connie, Joyce, and Edith; a brother, James; a half brother, Robert; a great-grandchild; his "adopted daughter", Andrea Bass; and his faithful dog, Buddie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Henry Ronald, Sr. and Michael Ernest; one brother, Reid; two sisters, Cora and Evelyn.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 17, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Apostolic Christian Resthaven, 2750 West Highland Ave., Elgin. Visitation will be on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Memorials to Apostolic Christian Resthaven would be appreciated.
