Perry B. Cooley
Perry B. Cooley, 50, of Marengo, IL died Tuesday, February 25, 2003 in his home following a long illness. He was born on March 16, 1952 in Elgin, IL, the son of Bruce and Mary Jane Lewis Cooley. On April 17, 1981 in Waukegan he married Kathleen Groenland. He was a U.S. Army Viet Nam Veteran and a machinist with Brake Parts Inc., McHenry, IL.
He is survived by his wife of Marengo, five sons: Brian Miller of Lake in the Hills, Steven and Jason Miller, both of McHenry, Eric Cooley of Marengo and Sean Gallager, a grandson, Shane Miller, four brothers: Michael Cooley of McHenry, Steven (Katherine) Cooley of Lake Villa, Jeffrey and Daniel Cooley, a sister, Bonnie Swegle of McHenry and his parents of Lake Zurich.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2003 at the Marengo-Union Funeral Home, 505 E. Grant Hwy., Marengo, IL 60152. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2003 in the funeral home with Chaplain Nicolle See Grasse officiating. Interment will be in Marengo City cemetery. Memorials may be made in his name to The American Cancer Society, 143 First St., Batavia, IL 60510.

Thomas W. Davis
Thomas W. Davis, 82, of South Elgin, IL passed away at 10:40 p.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2003 at Provena-St. Joseph's Hospital in South Elgin, IL.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, February 14, 2003 at the Champaign Church of Christ, 1509 W. John St., Champaign, IL. Evangelist Stan Addis will officiate. Burial with Military Rites will be in the Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign, IL. Edwards Funeral Home, 221 E. Main St., Arcola, IL is in charge of arrangements.
Tom was born February 25, 1920 in Wolf Lake, IL. He was a son of William and Elsie Ann (Castleman) Davis. He married Pauline Vivian Albright in 1946. She passed away in May of 2001.
Survivors include one son, Thomas (Susan) Davis of Lansing, IL, four daughters, Patricia (Jim) Girard of New Hudson, MI, Linda (Robert) Lutz of South Elgin, IL, Diana Fisher of Champaign, IL and Joyce (Jim) Lipsey of Champaign, IL, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
His parents, three brothers, Bob, Henry and Jessie and four sisters, Gladys, Hallie, Florence and Nora preceded him in death.
Tom was a PFC in the U.S. Army and a Veteran of World War II. He was a lifetime member of the Anna, IL VFW Post #3455 and the Lansing, IL VFW Post #7660. Tom retired from Verson All-Steel Press in Chicago, IL after 30 years of service. Memorials may be made to the Champaign Church of Christ, 1509 W. John St., Champaign, IL.

Mary S. Fox
Mary Szilage Fox, affectionately known as Mimi, died in Dallas, TX on February 22, 2003 at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas after suffering a stroke. Born in Aurora, IL to George and Mary Szilage on April 23, 1915, she was the only sister to five brothers.
She was preceded in death by her oldest brother, George Szilage, Jr. and Steve Szilage, both of Aurora.
She is survived by John Szilage and Louis Szilage of Batavia, and Thomas Szilage of St. Petersburg, FL. She leaves behind two devoted daughters, Billie Diane Mills and her husband, Thomas Menroy Mills, of Rockford, IL and Mary Candace Evans and husband Walter Francis Evans II, M.D. of Dallas, TX. She has three loving grandchildren: William Mills of Rockford, IL and Walter Francis Evans III and Mary Cassandra Evans of Dallas, As well as a great-grandchild, William Thomas Mills of Rockford, IL.
Mimi attended Aurora College in Aurora, IL and spent the majority of her life in the Fox River Valley, where she was active in the League of Women Voters and worked for E.S. Hernandez, M.D. She retired to Dallas for the last 15 years of her life where she worked in her son-in-law's medical office. She was a huge supporter of Cassie and Tres at The Hockaday School and St. Mark's School of Texas, where she volunteered in the cafeteria. She will always be remembered as a petite woman with the largest heart and a zest for life. Her spunk permeated all who came in contact with her, and she is deeply missed. Mimi was a true inspiration to feel young and keep going at full pace as she did until the very end.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 28, 2003 at 11:30 a.m. at THE DALEIDEN LAKE STREET MORTUARY. Fr. Brian Grady will officiate with interment at Lincoln Memorial Park.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 27, 2003 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Friday, February 28, 2003 from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11:30 a.m. at THE DALEIDEN LAKE STREET MORTUARY, 220 N. Lake Street, Aurora, IL 60506. (630)898-8634.

Ruth E. Johnson
Ruth E. Johnson, age 85, of DeKalb, IL, formerly of Elburn, IL, passed away quietly Sunday afternoon, February 23, 2003 at Oak Crest Retirement Center, DeKalb, IL. Coming at last to the end of her journey, Ruth took the hand of her Savior and went home where once again her memory is clear and she is free from earthly bondage.
She was born July 22, 1917, in Belvidere, IL, the daughter of Frank and Wilda (Wixon) Burton. She attended Belvidere Grade School and graduated from Belvidere High School with the class of 1936.
She worked at a local drug store for a time after graduation. Ruth met Cliff Johnson at the Beaver Valley Grange Hall one Saturday night and their courtship began. On August 5, 1939, Ruth was united in marriage to Clifford E. Johnson and together they began a lifetime of love and unfailing commitment.
In 1943, she became a war bride as Cliff went to fight for his country during World War II. During his absence, Ruth, along with their eight month old son, moved to Maple Park, to live with Cliff's parents, Edward and Bessie Johnson. Cliff returned in 1946 and they continued to make their home in the Maple Park area where Ruth was employed as a postal worker, a job she kept until her retirement in 1980. While loving in Maple Park she was active in the Grace United Methodist Church and the Ladies Aid Society.
In 1966, they moved to Elburn where Ruth again became involved in the life of her church, the Community Congregational Church. Together she and Cliff worshipped and worked serving as an integral part of the church family. they belonged to the 5C's and Ruth was active in the Women's Guild as well as serving countless dinners and funeral luncheons. She was an avid card player and a member of several card clubs as well as the Kane County Farm Home Extension. In 1996, Cliff and Ruth moved to DeKalb and became residents of the Oak Crest Retirement Center.
Ruth was a loving and devoted wife and mother, a "terrific" grandma and great-grandma, as well as a treasured and faithful friend. A wonderful cook, she made a "World Famous" apple pie which will be remembered for many years to come. She loved to walk the village streets greeting friends and neighbors. She also enjoyed watching the birds, especially cardinals. She collected porcelain birds and plates and leaves a "collection" of memories for all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Clifford, one son, Roger D. (Kathleen) Johnson of Scottsdale, AZ and one daughter, Carol S. (Daniel) Gilmore of Sycamore, IL, four grandchildren: Mark (Britt) Johnson of Reno, NV, Kristine (Baue) Bradley of Houston, TX, Kevin (Tonya) Gilmore of DeKalb, IL and Michelle Gilmore, also of Sycamore; four great-grandchildren: Jessica, C.J. and Jerome and Avery; one sister-in-law, Teresa Burton, and a family of friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Doris (Vernon) Lundeen and two brothers, Donald Burton and Paul Burton.
Friends may call 1-3 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2003 at the Community Congregational Church, Rte. 47 and Shannon St., Elburn where her memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial gifts be given to the Community Congregational Church, P.O. Box 308, Elburn, IL 60119.

Dorothy "Doty" L. Kramer (Welch)
Dorothy "Doty" L. Kramer (Welch), 85, of Elgin, passed away Monday in her home. She was born February 11, 1918 in Elgin, and was the daughter of Lewis and Meta Welch. Doty had worked her whole life, and was a homemaker with her family.
Survivors include five children, Louis (Wilma) Kramer of Willis, TX, Jerry (Janis) Kramer of Elgin, IL, Barb (the late Donald) Axelsen of St. Charles, IL, Richard (Claire) Kramer of Elgin, IL, Carol (Greg) Heine of Elgin, IL, 17 grandchildren and 11 great -grandchildren.
preceded in death by her parents, her husband Milton "Mike" Kramer in 1983, one brother, Wilbur Welch of Cape Coral, FL.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, with Rev. Roger Pollock officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery in Elgin. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made it Doty's name to Vitas Hospice Care, Lombard, IL.

Manley H. "Butch" Lange
Manley H. "Butch" Lange, 67, of Carpentersville, died Tuesday, February 25, at Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin. He was born July 18, 1935 to Frank and Emily (nee Shear) Lange in Elgin. He worked for I.T.W. Shakeproof in Elgin for 34 years. He worked part time for five years at the Dundee Township Library and also for Precision Car Wash in East Dundee. He was a Marine Veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the Elgin American Legion Post #57. He was also a member of the King of Glory Lutheran Church in Elgin.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy (nee Rakow), three daughters: Ginger Colpen of DeKalb, Loane (Ray) Ross of South Elgin, Christi Lange of Carpentersville, three grandchildren: James (Angela) Colpen, Kathy Colpen both of DeKalb and Jessica Ross of South Elgin, two great-grandchildren: Vanessa and Nathaniel Colpen of DeKalb, two sisters: Phyllis Todd of Elgin and Norma Carl of Carpentersville, one brother, Marvin (Betty) Lange of Florida and one brother-in-law, Emery Szigeti of Florida. Many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother: Bill Lange, two sisters, Arlene Szigeti and Ruby Haberstitch.
Funeral Services will be on Saturday, March 1, 2003 at 10 a.m. in the King of Glory Lutheran Church (Hopps and Randall Roads) Elgin. Burial at Lakewood Memorial Park in Elgin. Visitation on Friday from 5-8 p.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee and in church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of service. Memorials may be made to the King of Glory Lutheran Church.

Leora M. Melahn
Leora M. Melahn, 97, of Elgin, formerly of East Dundee, died Wednesday, February 26, 2003 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin. She was born in West Dundee on May 4, 1905, the daughter of William and Bertha (nee Maventhal) Krunnfusz.
Mrs. Melahn was a life long resident of the Dundee area. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of West Dundee for over 60 years. She was a member of the Women's Fellowship of the church. Mrs. Melahn was a former member of the Dundee Twp. 50+ Club. She was a former member of the Dundee Women's Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Herbert H., Jr.) Beck of Dundee Township, one granddaughter, Kimberly (Douglas) Bond of Elgin, two grandsons, Scott (Sue) Haverkampf of Sleepy Hollow and David Haverkampf of Vancouver, WA, two step grandsons, Robert (Lucy) Beck, M.D. of Fairfax, VA and Herbert, H. III (Julie) Beck, M.D. of Mettawa, IL. Great grandmother of Morgan, Kyle and Daniel Haverkampf and Stephanie, Andrew, Kathryn and James Beck.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Martin W. Melahn, the former Dundee Township Assessor in 1974, two brothers, Alfred and Robert Krunnfusz and two sisters, Laura Landwehr and Melanie Schultz.
Funeral services will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. The Rev. Pamela F. Pendexter will officiate. Burial will follow in the Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee. Visitation will be on Friday from 5-8 p.m. in the funeral home. The family has asked for the omission of flowers, memorials may be made to either the First Congregational Church or the Arthritis Foundation.

Jean R. Parisi
Jean R. Parisi, 84, of Genoa, formerly of the Dundee area, died Monday, February 24, 2003 at Bethany Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in DeKalb. She was born in Primero, CO on October 17, 1918, the daughter of Vincent and Josephine (nee Tuttoilmondo) Cina.
Jean was a 38 year resident of the area and a former member of St. Catherine Of Siena Church in West Dundee. For many years Jean worked along with her husband and son in the operation of their family real estate business, Dundee Realty.
She is survived by two children: Donald Parisi of Algonquin and Francine (John) Mills of Hampshire, one son-in-law: Jim Rosado of Hampshire, 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, one sister: Mildred Rossini of Atherton, CA. Many nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank Parisi in 1988 and one daughter: Janice A. Rosado in 2002, one brother, Joseph Cina.
Funeral Mass will be on Thursday at 10 a.m. in the St. Catherine Of Siena Church, West Dundee. The Rev. Richard A. Rosinski, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3-9 p.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee and on Thursday in church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass. The family has asked for the omission of flowers.

David M. Pearson
David M. Pearson, 75, of West Dundee, former many year resident of Carpentersville died Wednesday, February 26, 2003 at the Manor Care Healthcare Center in Elgin. He was born in Carpentersville on February 15, 1928, the son of Arnold and Ethel Pearson.
Dave was a life long resident of the area and was associated with the Carpentersville and Countryside Fire Protection District for 37 years. He retired in 1991. He was a United States Navy Veteran.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years: Marilyn (nee Garrelts) Pearson. They married on May 5, 1950. Five children: John (Julie) Pearson of Brandon, FL, Tim (Vivian Knell) Pearson of Hampshire, Craig Pearson and Scott Pearson, both of West Dundee and Barbara Fries of Elgin, seven grandchildren and four great granddaughters, four brothers: Leth (Joan) Pearson of East Dundee, Adrian (Ellen) Pearson of Lake In The Hills, Paul Pearson of Mauston, WI and Lester (Margaret) Pearson of South Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Louis, Gerald and Arnold, Jr., one sister: Roberta Behm.
Memorial Funeral Services will be on Saturday, March 1, 2003 at 5:30 p.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Mr. Dan Arndt will officiate. Burial will be private. Friends may visit with the family from 3:30 p.m. until time of the service. The family has asked for the omission of flowers.

Mario Romero
Mario Romero, age 33, of Carpentersville died February 24, 2003.
He is survived by his father, Agapito of Carpentersville, his mother, Diamantia Noriega of Fort Worth, TX, his step mother, Yolanda Romero of Carpentersville, four brothers, Agapito Romero III, Rolando Romero, Steve Martinez and Secundino Urquiza, sisters Emma Elia Romero, Sylvia Martinez, Lee Francis Romero and Diana Martinez, his daughters, Francine and Jessica Romero.
Funeral services Friday 11 a.m. at Community Funeral Home, located on Rt. 25, between Rts. 72 and 68, East Dundee. 847-426-3474. Visitation Thursday 5-9 p.m. at Community Funeral Home. Burial at Dundee East cemetery.

Jane Sachen (Weiler)
Jane Sachen (Weiler), 80, of Elgin died February 17, 2003 at home. She was born February 13, 1923 in Aurora, the daughter of George and Mary Weiler. Jane was a graduate of Madonna High School in Aurora and has worked at St. Joseph's Parish, St. Edwards High School, Elgin Public School and with J&J; Data Supplies.
Survivors include her husband Jim whom she married in 1945. One son, Jeff (Carol) Sachen of Elgin; two daughters Lynelle (Dale) Ducommun of Lake Zurich and Jodeen Sachen of Schaumburg; four grandchildren, Wendy Pae Bennett of South Elgin, Dawn Pae of Elgin, and Steve and Cathy Sachen of Elgin; two great-grandchildren, Anthony and Gianna Pae Bennett. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Jane will be cremated and a memorial mass will be held on March 8 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Elgin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 4709 Golf Rd. Ste 1015, Skokie, IL 60076, St. Joseph Church Building Fund, 272 Division St., Elgin, IL 60120, National Wildlife Federation, Attention Patti Beattle, 11100 Wildlife Center Dr., Reston, VA 20190 or to the charity of your choice.
