Margery Harford
45-year school teacher

PIPER CITY -- Visitation for Margery A. Harford, 87, of Piper City, will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Reilly-Redenius Funeral Home, Piper City and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the 11 a.m. services at the Presbyterian Church in Piper City. Rev. Ora Baker will officiate.
Burial will be in Brenton cemetery, Piper City.
Memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Church in Piper City, where she had been a member since 1927.
Mrs. Harford died Tuesday (June 25, 2002) at the Greenbrier HealthCare Center, Piper City.
She was born May 22, 1915, in Piper City, the daughter of Roy and Mollie Crandall Peregrine.
Her husband, Merle F. Harford, whom she married Aug. 27, 1941, in Piper City, died Sept. 25, 1995.
Surviving are two nieces; six nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
One son, Garry; and one sister, Laura Johnson, are deceased.
She was a graduate of Piper City High School. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Illinois State Normal University.
Mrs. Harford was a school teacher for 45 years. She had taught in the rural Crandall school, where her mother and mother-in-law had attended as children; Piper City school, Roberts school and Ford Central school.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church Circles, Ford County Retired Teachers Association, Ford County Historical Society, Piper City Historical Society, Order of the Eastern Star, Piper City Reading Circle, Kappa Delta Pi, the China Dolls Art Guild and a charter member of the Ford County DAR.
She enjoyed traveling and China painting.

Marie Settles
25-year Bear Brand employee

Marie F. Settles, 89, formerly of Bourbonnais, died Tuesday (June 25, 2002) at Heritage Manor in Dwight.
There will be no visitation or services.
Burial will be private in Flesher cemetery, Crescent City.
Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.
She was born July 13, 1912, in Momence, the daughter of Michael and Stella Franklin Smith.
Her husband, John Settles, whom she married in 1953 in Crown Point, Ind., died in 1985.
Mrs. Settles had worked at Bear Brand Hosiery for 25 years.
She was a member of the Catholic faith.
She enjoyed needlework.

Mary Wajtekunas

Visitation for Mary E. Wajtekunas, 90, of Bradley, will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Bradley Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Burial will be in Mt. Calvary cemetery, Kankakee.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Mrs. Wajtekunas died Wednesday (June 26, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital, Kankakee.
She was born Jan. 5, 1912, in Wilmington, the daughter of Michael and Sarah Finnegan.
Her husband, Bernard Wajtekunas, died April 6, 1962.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Harry and Peggy Pedigo of Bourbonnais; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
One daughter, Mary Tannehill, is deceased.
Mrs. Wajtekunas was self-employed cleaning homes and businesses in the area all her life.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bradley.

Pearl Tegtmeyer

CRETE -- Pearl D. Tegtmeyer, 81, of Crete, died Tuesday (June 25, 2002) at her home.
Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. Friday at the Crete Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the 11 a.m. services at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Beecher, where she was a member.
Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran cemetery, Beecher.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
She was born Sept. 15, 1920 in Steger.
Her husband, Elmer Tegtmeyer, is deceased.
Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jerry Tegtmeyer of Frankfort, Bill and Elaine Tegtmeyer of Crete; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Mildred Heft of Chicago Heights, Emily "Connie" Garretto and Betty and Dick Crim, all of Crete; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Tegtmeyer had worked at the Steger Furniture factory.

Robert Garwood

Robert L. Garwood, 50, of Kankakee, died Tuesday (June 25, 2002) at Riverside Medical Center.
There will be no visitation.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
A memorial service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Friday at the College Church of the Nazarene, Bourbonnais. Rev. Dale Wine will officiate.
Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born July 22, 1951, in Princeton, Ind., the son of Robert Lyndoris and Betty A. Garwood. His father is deceased.
Surviving are his mother, Betty Rogers of Momence; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Maggie and Mike Armstrong of Owensville, Ind., Pamela S. Garwood of Momence; one brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Penny Garwood of Owensville, Ind.; three half-sisters, Mary and Lowell Page of Cartersville, Ga., Jane and Alfred Boyer of Colorado Springs, Colo., Barbara and Gary Porners of Chickamauga, Ga.; one half-brother, Jeff and Johnna Rogers of Bourbonnais; longtime companion, Shirley Byrd; his stepfather who raised him; one uncle, Alan R. Creamer of Owensville, Ind.; special friend, ; and several nieces and nephews.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He attended school in Momence and Sauk Village.
Mr. Garwood delivered papers for The Daily Journal and did yard work in the area.

Ronald Kelly

KEMPTON -- Ronald John "RJ" Kelly, 64, of Jamaica Plain, Mass., formerly of Kempton, died Saturday (April 6, 2002) at his home, six weeks after being diagnosed with cancer.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Kempton-Hill cemetery. Frank Deninger will officiate. In case of inclement weather the service will be in the Kempton United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be made to AIDS Action, 131 Clarendon St., Boston, MA 02116.
Harris-Martin-Burke Funeral Home, Cullom, is in charge of arrangements.
He was born April 24, 1937, in Kempton, the son of John E. and Lettie A. Donley Kelly. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are his partner of eight years, Stefan Battle of Jamaica Plain; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Robert and Lois Kelly of Peoria, Ariz., Mary Kelly of Deer Creek; two nephews and two nieces.
One brother, Orville Kelly; and one niece, Barbara Hines, are deceased.
He was a 1955 graduate of Kempton High School.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving as a Hospital Corpsman at Chelsea Naval Hospital in Chelsea, Mass.
Mr. Kelly had been a concierge for the Statler Hilton, the Sheraton Plaza and Tremont on the Green and the Meredith and Grew, Inc. at the Oliver Building. He had also spent 15 years as a customer service representative for Pan American Airways.
He was a member of Trinity Church in Boston and a former member of the Kempton United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed world travel, home design and restoration.

Russell McCarter
33-year U.S. steel employee

JOLIET -- Russell D. McCarter, 87, of Joliet, and a former Coal City resident, died Saturday (June 22, 2002) at Provena Villa Franciscan in Joliet.
Services were held June 25 at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayes Funeral Home, Joliet. Rev. Kay Collins officiated.
Burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Joliet.
Memorials may be made to New Hope Presbyterian Church, Coal City, where he was a member.
Mr. McCarter retired in 1975 from U.S. Steel Co. after 33 years of service.
He was born in Marengo, the son of Austin and Mittie McCarter.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Dorothea M. Smith McCarter; one daughter and son-in-law, Rochelle M. and Daniel McCarthy of Morris; two grandsons; one brother and sister-in-law, Francis and Charlene McCarter of Minooka; one sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and John Brunner of Coal City; and several nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, John and Wayne McCarter; and one half-sister, Hazel Pope, are deceased.
He was a member of Mt. Joliet Masonic Lodge 42 AF&AM; and the IOOF.
He was a former member of the Willow Avenue Presbyterian Church in Joliet.

Charles Hines

WATSEKA -- Visitation for Charles B. Hines, 61, of rural Watseka, will be from noon Saturday until the 2 p.m. services at Segur-Knapp Funeral Home, Watseka. Rev. Dean Bottjen will officiate.
Burial will be in Sugar Creek cemetery, Stockland.
Memorials may be made to the family wishes.
Mr. Hines died Thursday (May 23, 2002) at Iroquois Memorial Hospital, Watseka.
He was born Aug. 4, 1940, in Milford, the son of Jimmy Calvin and Loretta Schaumburg Hines. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are his wife, the former Jean K. Krumwiede, whom he married April 9, 1967, in Woodworth, of Watseka; one son, Nathan Hines of Plainfield; one sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Kenneth High of Reynolds, Ind.; one brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Bonita Hines of Sheldon; three nieces and three nephews; and three great-nieces and one great-nephew.
One infant son is deceased.
He was a 1958 graduate of high school in Burnettsville, Ind. and a 1961 graduate of Northrup Institute of Technology in California.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Mr. Hines was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Watseka, and a former council member and Elder at his church.
He coached Little League and Youth League. He also was a past member of the Watseka Athletic Booster Club.
