Lois Johnson

Lois M. Johnson, 79, of Bourbonnais, died Sunday (May 19, 2002) at Momence Meadows Nursing Center.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel, Kankakee.

Lula Durflinger

WATSEKA -- Lula Belle Durflinger, 66, of Watseka, died Sunday (May 19, 2002) at Iroquois Memorial Hospital, Watseka.
Arrangements are pending at the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home, Watseka.

Marjorie Fairley

ROBERTS -- Marjorie Lenore Fairley, 90, of Roberts, died Saturday (May 18, 2002) at the Gibson Area Community Hospital, Gibson City. She had been a resident of the Illinois Knights Templar Home in Paxton for 3 1/2 years.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Tuesday until the 2 p.m. services at the Congregational Christian Church in Roberts, where she was a member. Rev. Tom Jones will officiate.
Burial will be in Lyman Township cemetery, Roberts.
Memorials may be made to the Congregational Christian Church, Roberts, or to Peace Meals of Roberts.
She was born Sept. 6, 1911, in Ford County, the daughter of Ancil and Elma Graham Huxtable.
Her husband, Harry D. Fairley, whom she married Feb. 14, 1934, in Nashville, Tenn., died in October 1977.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Kay Fairley of Charleston, Robert and June Fairley of Belleville, Rodney and RoseMarie Fairley of Roberts; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Lela Huxtable of Chesterfield, Ind. and Mildred Fairley of Chatsworth.
One brother, Robert Huxtable, is deceased.
She attended Watseka High School.
Mrs. Fairley was a member of the Ford County Home Extension, the Happy Hens Group of the Roberts area and the Ladies Aide at her church.

Ronald Hunt

WOODLAND -- Visitation for Ronald M. Hunt, 61, of Woodland, will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, with an 8 p.m. prayer service, at the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home, Watseka, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Rev. Lee Ryan will officiate.
Burial will be in Floral Hill cemetery, Hoopeston.
Memorials may be made to Iroquois Memorial Hospital, St. Jude's Hospital or to the donor's choice.
Mr. Hunt died Saturday (May 18, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital, Kankakee.
He was born March 6, 1941, in Danville, the son of Morris and Alice Fleming Hunt.
Surviving are his wife, the former Linda L. Lane, whom he married April 20, 1963, in Danville, of Woodland; one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Bradley Gross of Danville; two sons, Christopher Hunt of Bloomington, Joshua Hunt of Woodland; his parents of Hoopeston; two brothers, Robert Hunt of Tyler, Texas, Stephen Hunt of Elizabethtown, Ky.; one sister, Linda Johnson of Westminster, Colo.; and six grandchildren.
One grandchild is deceased.
He was a member of the Watseka Kiwanis Club and member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Watseka Elks Lodge.
Mr. Hunt was employed at WGFA Radio since its inception September 1961 having served as program director, general manager and vice president of broadcasting. He originated the Trading Post on the radio and was known in the area as Mr. WGFA.
He was a former Unit 9 school board member for 10 years having served as secretary.
He loved all types of music, nature and gardening.

Allan Harms

PEOTONE -- Allan H. Harms, 75, of Sun Lakes, Ariz. since 1999, formerly of Peotone, died Sunday (May 19, 2002) at the Carl T. Hayden Veterans Administration Hospital, Phoenix, Ariz., after a lengthy illness.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Saturday, with an 8 p.m. walk-through by fire department personnel from several departments, at the Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, Peotone.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Immanuel United Church of Christ, Peotone, where he was a member. Rev. David Plant will officiate.
Burial will be in the Peotone cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Young, Henry Sallee, Lanny Russell, Russell Klipp, Robert Robbins and Judson McDougall.
He was born Dec. 7, 1926, in Peotone, the son of Alvin and Amanda Brunner Harms.
His wife, the former Donna J. Ryan, whom he married Feb. 12, 1959, at Immanuel United Church of Christ, died Feb. 25, 1982.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Katie Harms of Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Toni and Gary Younker of Frankfort, Tamy and Ed Eng of West Bloomfield, Mich.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Alva Lee Ruge of Lexington, Ohio.
An infant brother, Russel, is deceased.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II and a 55-year member of the Peotone American Legion Post 392.
He was the third generation to operate Harms Plumbing and Heating of Peotone retiring in 1999 and moving to Arizona.
Mr. Harms was a 32-year member of the Peotone Fire Department retiring in 1977 after serving as chief of the department from 1967 to 1977. During his tenure as chief, the department started the first all-volunteer paramedic unit in the state of Illinois. A member of the Kankakee Valley Fire Chiefs Association and the Wilco Fire Chiefs Association he also served as a trustee of the Peotone Fire Protection District from 1987-1990 and president of the Board of Trustees of the Peotone Fire Protection District from 1993 to 1997. His leadership as chief, trustee and president was instrumental in guiding the department toward the professional organization that it is today.
He also served as a part-time police officer in Peotone and was the plumbing inspector for Peotone and Manteno.
He was a member of the Bradley Moose Lodge and an avid golfer and bowler.

Annie Keller

Visitation for Annie L. "Granny" Keller, 79, of Kankakee, will be from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the noon services at the Jones Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Calmes will officiate.
Services will also be held Saturday at Brown Mortuary, Laurel, Miss.
Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery, Laurel.
Mrs. Keller died Sunday (May 19, 2002) at Kindred Hospital, Northlake.
She was born Sept. 8, 1922, in Laurel, Miss., the daughter of Phil and Mittie Jordan Heidelberg.
Surviving are her husband, M.C. Keller, whom she married Dec. 30, 1945, in Laurel, Miss., of Kankakee; one son, James Coleman of Laurel; one daughter, Adrienne Yvonne Keller of Kankakee; one brother-in-law, Louis Newell of Laurel; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and special daughter, Melvina Ward.
Her mother-in-law, Corean Kirksey; two brothers, Henry Heidelberg and Phil "Mike" Heidelberg Jr.; and two sisters, Hattie McDowell and Ruby Newell, are deceased.
Mrs. Keller was a member of Mallaliu United Methodist Church.

Arthur Zeedyk

DANFORTH -- Visitation for Arthur Henry Zeedyk, 93, a lifelong Danforth resident, will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Redenius Funeral Home, Gilman, and from 10 a.m. Thursday until the 11 a.m. services at the Danforth Reformed Church, where he was a member. Rev. Donald J. MacDonald III will officiate.
Burial will be in the Danforth cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Danforth Reformed Church; Prairieview Lutheran Home, Danforth; Iroquois Memorial Hospice or to the donor's choice.
Mr. Zeedyk died Sunday (May 19, 2002) at Prairieview Lutheran Home, Danforth.
He was born Jan. 30, 1909, in Danforth, the son of Lambert and Fannie Bensema Zeedyk.
His wife, the former Josephine Koets, whom he married Jan. 1, 1934, in Danforth, died July 31, 1994.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Shirley Zeedyk of Danforth; two daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Barry Swanson of Middleville, Mich., Arlene and Laverne Rahn of Holland, Mich.; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Three brothers, John, George and Cornealius; and two sisters, Emma Muller and Gussie Juergens, are deceased.
He was educated in the rural Kerns school.
Mr. Zeedyk had been a farmer and a carpenter. He had also worked in maintenance at Armour Pharmaceutical.
He was an elder and deacon at his church and served on the building committee.
He enjoyed woodworking and visiting with friends over coffee.

Edward Surprenant

DANVILLE -- Edward James Surprenant, 61, of Danville, formerly of Kankakee, died Monday (May 20, 2002) at his home.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, with an 8 p.m. prayer service, at the Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Catholic Church, where he was a member. Rev. Doug Hennessey will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Catholic Church.
He was born Sept. 19, 1940, in Kankakee, the son of Phillip and Mary Faber Surprenant. His parents are deceased.
He married the former Judith Ann Rempa June 10, 1967 in LaPorte, Ind.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Auston and Tammy Surprenant of Danville; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Georgia Surprenant, Leonard and Connie Surprenant, all of Kankakee, Gerald and Paula Surprenant of Sarasota, Fla.; and three sisters and brothers-in-law, Phyllis and Jude Manau, Rosie and Ron Wheeler and Anna May and Richard Yoakum, all of Kankakee.
One brother, Bernard Surprenant, is deceased.
Mr. Surprenant and his wife owned and operated Danville Copy Systems for over 22 years.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Judith Surprenant

DANVILLE -- Judith Ann Surprenant, 57, of Danville, and the wife of a former Kankakee resident, died Monday (May 20, 2002) at her home.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, with an 8 p.m. prayer service, at the Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Catholic Church, where she was a member. Rev. Doug Hennessey will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Catholic Church.
She was born Jan. 1, 1945, in LaPorte, Ind., the daughter of Daniel and Stephanie Michalski Rempa. Her father is deceased.
She married Edward J. Surprenant June 10, 1967 in LaPorte.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Auston and Tammy Surprenant of Danville; her mother of Michigan City, Ind.; and one brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Carol Rempa of Phoenix, Ariz.
One sister, Patricia Braman, is deceased.
Mrs. Surprenant and her husband owned and operated Danville Copy Systems for over 22 years.
She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church.
She enjoyed gardening, traveling and shopping.

Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson died Sunday (May 19, 2002) at Momence Meadows Nursing Center.
She was born Nov. 8, 1922, the daughter of Fred and Lillian Kruse Knoll.
Her husband, Leonard W. Johnson, whom she married Dec. 27, 1944, in Knoxville, Tenn., is deceased.
Surviving are one son, Terrance Johnson and his fiancee, Judith; and one grandson, Derek Johnson.
Mrs. Johnson was the manager at Spiegel's from 1969 until they closed. She was also a self-employed beautician and had worked in shipping and receiving as a clerk for L&S; Bait Company.
She enjoyed traveling, golf, cards and was an avid Cubs fan.
