Mae Severson

Services for Mae Severson, 78, of Westchester, Ohio, formerly of Kankakee, were held April 20 at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Kankakee. Rev. John Marvin will officiate.
Mrs. Severson died April 13, 2002.
Burial was in Aroma Park cemetery.
One son, Dennis Lee Severson, is deceased.

Marilyn Clements

A funeral Mass for Marilyn Bertrand Clements, 75, of Kankakee, was celebrated April 22 at St. Teresa Catholic Church. Rev. Anthony Taschetta officiated.
Mrs. Clements died April 15, 2002.
Burial was in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery. Pallbearers were Kevin, Kyle and Keith McCawley, Timothy Bertrand, Roger Westmen and Timothy Greve.

Cletus Browning
tool and die setter

PEOTONE -- Cletus L. Browning, 74, of Peotone, formerly of Steger, died Monday (April 22, 2002) at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee.
Visitation will be from 4-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, Peotone, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Rev. Lewis Nutter will officiate.
Burial will be in Skyline Memorial Park, Monee. Pallbearers will be Christopher and Andrew Browning, Gene and Jeff Bloomquist and Glenn and Mark Garza.
Memorials may be made to the Liver Foundation.
Mr. Browning was a tool and die setter at the Ford Stamping Plant in Chicago Heights, retiring in 1974.
He was born Nov. 9, 1927, in Poke County, Ill., the son of Cephus and Melinda Rullens Browning.
Surviving are his wife, the former Ruth Lane, whom he married March 10, 1970, in Monee, of Peotone; one son and daughter-in-law, Floyd and Jodi Browning of Batavia; one daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Charles Garza of Dyer, Ind.; one daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Charles Garza of Dyer, Ind.; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
His first wife, the former Wilma Johnson, died in 1977; one stepdaughter, Barb Bloomquist; one brother, William Browning; and one sister, Katie Sellers, are deceased.
He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran.
He was a member of the Manteno Baptist Church.

Ardalia Mittons

Visitation for Ardalia L. "Dee Dee" Mittons, 83, of Kankakee, will be from 10 a.m. Saturday until the 11 a.m. services at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member.
Burial will be in Momence cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley.
Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais, is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Mittons died Sunday (April 21, 2002) at her home.
She was born Sept. 19, 1918, in Oktaba, Okla., the daughter of Artmus and Mabel Nelson Martin.
Her husband, Charles H. Mittons, whom she married in Chicago, died Jan. 7, 1972.
Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, George Mittons of Kankakee, Charles and Gertrude Mittons of Sun River Terrace; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
One sister is deceased.
Mrs. Mittons was a seamstress and a furrier.
She was a senior companion through Catholic Charities.
She enjoyed sewing and cooking.

Bess Hawkins

WATSEKA -- A memorial graveside service for Bess Elyea Hawkins, 100, of Watseka, formerly of Wilmington, will be held at noon Saturday at Oakwood cemetery, Wilmington.
Arrangements are by Freitag Funeral Home in Wilmington.
Mrs. Hawkins died Jan. 31, 2002.

Doug Hopping

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. -- Doug Myron Hopping, 42, of Pompano Beach, Fla., a relative of area residents, died Wednesday (April 17, 2002).
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Union Chapel cemetery, Astoria. Gary Sheets will officiate.
Shawgo Memorial Home, Astoria, is in charge of arrangements.
Surviving are his father, Myron and Erma Hopping of Mackinaw; his mother, Beverly and Dan Willis of Godfrey; children, Charlie, Sam and Cori of Indianapolis, Ind.; two brothers, Darin Hopping and Alan Hopping, both of Warrenville; three sisters, Judy Broussard of Boynton Beach, Fla., Janis Lee of Springfield, Mo., Jody Patton of Tuscola; two half-brothers, Aaron and Pat; two half-sisters, Diana and Sharon; two stepbrothers, Rich and Brian; and one stepsister, Bev.
His grandparents; two brothers, Phillip Hopping and Dan Willis Jr., are deceased.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1976-1983 as a medical specialist.

Elijah Shabazz

Elijah Shabazz, infant son of Amadh Williams and Karnisha Shabazz, both of Kankakee, died at birth Saturday (April 20, 2002) at Riverside Medical Center.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Momence cemetery, Ganeer Township.
Leggett Funeral Home, Hopkins Park, is in charge of arrangements.
Surviving besides his parents are maternal grandparents, Claire Jackson of Kankakee, Karriem Shabazz Sr. of Kankakee; maternal great-grandparents, Lizzie Jackson of Kankakee, Eddie Jackson of Davenport, Iowa; three aunts and three uncles.

Fred Gosse

GARDNER -- Visitation for Fred A. Gosse, 51, of Gardner, will be from 6 p.m. Saturday until the 8 p.m. services at the Freitag Funeral Home, Wilmington.
Cremation rites were accorded.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Mr. Gosse died Sunday (April 14, 2002) at St. Mary's Hospital, Streator.

Helen Hocraffer

ELWOOD -- Helen J. Hocraffer, 73, a lifelong resident of Elwood, died Saturday (April 20, 2002) at Provena St. Joseph's Medical Center.
Private services and burial will be held at Oakwood cemetery, Wilmington.
Freitag Funeral Home, Wilmington, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born April 11, 1929, in Elwood, the daughter of Clarence and Martha Ward Blogg.
Her husband of 48 years, William F. Hocraffer, died in 1995.
Surviving are two daughters, Karen J. Weldin of Wilmington, Vickie Hocraffer of Elwood; one son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Pat Hocraffer of Custer Park; three grandchildren; one sister, Lorrayne "Sis" O'Connor of Elwood; and several nieces and nephews.
Four infant children; one brother, Ronald Blogg; and one brother-in-law, Leo O'Connor, are deceased.

Howard Miller

DANFORTH -- Howard E. Miller, 64, of Danforth, died Tuesday (April 23, 2002) at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee.
Arrangements are pending at Redenius Funeral Home, Gilman.

J.W. Heggie

PALESTINE -- J.W. "Bud" Heggie, 70, of Palestine, father and brother of Wilmington residents, died Tuesday (April 23, 2002) at his residence.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine, and from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until the 10:30 a.m. service. Rev. Junior Murray will officiate.
Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery in rural Palestine.
Memorials may be made to the Amvets Post 33, 201 S. Main, Palestine, Ill., 62451, or to the American Cancer Society, 2509 S. Neil St., Champaign, Ill., 61820.
Mr. Heggie was a union carpenter who retired in 1993.
Mr. Heggie was born June 22, 1931 in Southside, Tenn., the son of Gerald Dean and Mary Lou Black Heggie. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Kevin and Regina Heggie of Flat Rock, Mark Heggie of Wilmington; three daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Jim Mann of Phoenix, Ariz., Helen and Bob Mann of Morrisville, N.C., Tracey and Tom Kent of Frostproof, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Gerald and Kathy Heggie of Los Angeles, Calif., Billy Dean Heggie of Clarksville, Tenn.; two sisters, Patty Sue Pritchard of Wilmington, Pauline Riley of Elkhart, Ind.; three special friends; and several nieces and nephews.
One brother, Bobby Dean Heggie; and two sisters, Shirley Reardon and Agnes Minton, are deceased.
He was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 347 in Mattoon, a member of the Eagles in Palestine, Amvets Post 33 in Palestine, and American Legion Post 132 of Flat Rock.

Marguerite Anderson

Marguerite Anderson, 85, of Bradley, died today (April 24, 2002) at Merkle Knipprath Nursing Home in Clifton.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bradley.

Marie Kupferschmid

PAXTON -- Marie B. Kupferschmid, 83, of Fishers, Ind., formerly of Paxton, and the sister of area residents, died Friday (April 19, 2002) at her home.
Services were held at 10 a.m. today at Christian Bible Church, rural Cissna Park.
Burial will be in Rankin Union cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, Robert L. Kupferschmid of Fishers, Ind.; two daughters, Barbara Kupferschmid Minoff of Ann Arbor, Mich., Lisa Goeke of Oak Park; two sons, Dr. John Kupferschmid of San Antonio, Texas, James Kupferschmid of Houston, Texas; six sisters, Lorene Purgett of Watseka, Bernice Otto and Velma Hoerr, both of Peoria, Edith Otto of Cissna Park, Gladys Kuntz and Lila Leigh, both of East Lynn; and five grandchildren.

Marjorie Hayes

Visitation for Marjorie "Margie" Hayes, 87, of Kankakee, will be from 10 a.m. Friday until the 11 a.m. service at Caldwell Chapel AME Zion Church. Rev. Nathan N. Richmond will officiate.
Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens cemetery.
Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Hayes died Saturday (April 20, 2002).
She was born in Kankakee, the daughter of James and Mary Sullivan Anderson.
Surviving are one son, Robert L. Nappier of Milwaukee, Wis; two daughters and one son-in-law, Marion and Louis Fields of Milwaukee, Wis., Barbara Jean Adams of Detroit, Mich.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
One grandson; one daughter; one sister, Ruth Woods; and one brother-in-law, Charles Woods, are deceased.
Ms. Hayes was a cook at Millie Proegler School and a former cook at Franklin School.
She was a steward at Caldwell Chapel AME Zion Church and enjoyed crocheting and working crossword puzzles.

Mary Kolodziej

Mary Kolodziej, 77, of Kankakee, died Tuesday (April 23, 2002) at her home.
Visitation will be at Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel with a funeral Mass at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
