Mervin Hubert
30-year Roper employee

Visitation for Mervin M. Hubert, 75, of Bourbonnais, will be from 5 p.m. today until the 7 p.m. services at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais. Rev. Don Kocher will officiate.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley.
Mr. Hubert died Friday (April 12, 2002) at Riverside Medical Center.
He was born July 7, 1926, in Martinton, the son of David and Dollie Mayeau Hubert.
Surviving are his wife, the former Jean Larsen, whom he married July 28, 1951, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church; four daughters and sons-in-law, Paula and Andy Beyle of Kankakee, Diane and Mike Mills of Dudley, Mo., Mary and Robert Kovar of Martinton, Lynn and Adam Prairie of Bourbonnais; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
One sister, Leola DeWitt; and one grandson, Casey Mills, are deceased.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War II.
Mr. Hubert was a retired employee of Roper Corporation, Kankakee Division, after 30 years of service. He had also been a musician playing in local dance bands.
He enjoyed fishing and camping.

Christian Wells

Graveside services for Christian David Wells of Kankakee, were held April 9 at Mound Grove Gardens cemetery. Rev. James Hudson officiated.
Christian died at birth April 4, 2002.
Honorary pallbearers were Cameron Wells Jr., Kamari Wells, Jared Grimes, Phillip Hudson and Ryan Hudson.

Richard Gossett

Services for Richard E. Gossett, 71, of Kankakee, formerly of Woodland, were held April 11 at the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home, Watseka. Edward H. Heck officiated.
Mr. Gossett died April 9, 2002.
Burial was in Body cemetery, Woodland. Pallbearers were Charles Jones Jr., Keith, Larry, Jerry and Jeremy Gossett and Jeff McCord.

Lorene Koets

GILMAN -- Services for Lorene E. Koets, 91, of Gilman, were held April 12 at the United Methodist Church, Gilman. Rev. Gary Fairchild officiated.
Mrs. Koets died April 9, 2002.
Burial was in Danforth cemetery. Pallbearers were Bill Baxter, Brian Grob, Phil Hurt, Harry Koets, Brian Medendorp and Mike Meier.

Willa Sykes

DETROIT, Mich. -- Willa Marie Riley Sykes, 54, of Detroit, Mich., formerly of Kankakee, died Tuesday (March 26, 2002) at Providence Hospital.
Services were held April 2 at the Swanson Funeral Home, Detroit.
Burial was in Detroit Memorial Park-West. Pallbearers were friends of the family.
She was born Dec. 6, 1947, in Kankakee, the daughter of John Riley and Barbara Johnson. Her parents are deceased.
Surviving are her husband, Henry Sykes, whom she married Feb. 14, 1967; three children, Annette, Gary and his fiancee, Tawny and Barbara; nine grandchildren; stepmother, Ruth Riley; four sisters, Joan, Joyce, Evelyn and Dorothy, all of Kankakee; one brother, Joe; one nephew; one aunt, Mary Lain; one cousin; and four special friends.
She attended grade school and high school in the Kankakee area.

Alice Neece,
school board member in Gardner

GARDNER -- Alice E. Neece, 87, of Gardner, died Saturday (April 13, 2002) at her home.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. today until the 7 p.m. services at the Gardner Funeral Home. The Rev. Joe Riggi will officiate.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
She was born Dec. 28, 1914, in Gardner, the daughter of George and Anastasia Brusnighan Johnson.
Her husband, Delbert M. Neece, whom she married Dec. 21, 1935, in Joliet, died Nov. 23, 1986.
Surviving are one son, John D. Neece of Gardner; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Barbara and Rick Phillips, Beverly and Rodney Grant, all of Gardner, and Joan Utley of Chillicothe; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold Johnson of Gardner; two sisters, Dorothy Schennum and Phyllis Phillips, both of Coal City; and many nieces and nephews.
One daughter died in 1942; and one granddaughter died in November 2000.
Mrs. Neece farmed in the area for her entire life.
She was a charter member of the South Eastern Grundy County Medical Center; past member of the Gardner School Board; and was the last member of the Tuesday Night Sewing Club that met weekly for 60 years.
In her later years she was an avid bridge player.

Charles Thiel

Visitation for Charles R. Thiel Jr., 60, of Kankakee, will be from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the 10:30 a.m. services at the Mt. Calvary cemetery chapel.
Burial will be in Mt. Calvary cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Arrangements are by the Fitzpatrick Funeral Directors.
Mr. Thiel died Thursday (April 11, 2002) at his home after a sudden illness.
He was born Aug. 11, 1941, in Jersey City, N.J., the son of Frederick and Rose Leonard Thiel. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Charles III and Angie Thiel of Littleton, Colo.; three daughters, Stacy Thiel of Kankakee, and Tami Thiel and Teri Thiel, both of Englewood, Colo.; two sisters, Robin Powers of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Cheryl Heather of Bourbonnais; and one brother, Frederick J. Thiel of Evergreen Park.
Two sisters and one brother are deceased.
Mr. Thiel had been a machinist.
He was a collector of all sorts of things.

Donald Miller

WATSEKA -- Graveside services for Donald L. Miller, 82, of Watseka, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Iroquois Memorial Park, Watseka. Military rites will be provided by the Watseka American Legion and VFW. The Rev. Lee Ryan will officiate.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
Memorials may be made to the Iroquois Co. Historical Society, where he was a member; to the Iroquois Memorial Hospital; or to the donor's choice.
Baier Funeral Home, Watseka, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Miller died Saturday (April 13, 2002) at Iroquois Memorial Hospital.
He was born Dec. 20, 1919, in Sheldon, the son of Don H. and Birdie M. Davis Miller.
Surviving are his wife, the former Helen C. Meyer, whom he married Oct. 18, 1941, in Palmyra, Mo., of Watseka; one son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Rosann Miller of Watseka; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna Lee and Donald Leonard, and Peggy Ann and Charles Hopkins, all of Watseka; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Isel A. Winters of Idaho, Ethel Tippie of Sullivan, Mary and Jim Williams of Idaho, and Marlyn and Donald Lucas of Trilla; three brothers and three sisters-in-law, Alvin Miller of Montana, Robert and Carol Miller of St. Anne, Wayne and Joyce Miller of Manteno, and Flo Miller of Watseka; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; two adopted grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Two brothers and one sister are deceased.
He was a U.S. Marine veteran, serving during World War II in the Assault Wave on Iwo Jima. He was a member of the Watseka American Legion and VFW and the Sons of the American Revolution.
Mr. Miller had worked 15 years at UARCO and 37 years at Western Condensor.
He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and genealogy.

Fred Gosse

GARDNER -- Fred Albert Gosse, 51, of Gardner, died Sunday (April 14, 2002) at St. Mary's Hospital, Streator.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Freitag Funeral Home, Wilmington, is in charge of arrangements.
He was born Jan. 7, 1951, the son of Raymond and Evelyn Kalk Gosse. His father is deceased.
Surviving are his fiancee, Barbara Bendel of Gardner; his mother of Gardner; one brother, Thomas Gosse of Gardner; and one nephew, Raymond Gosse.
Mr. Gosse was the owner/operator of Fred's Painting of Gardner.

Gertrude Oderwald

CLIFTON -- Gertrude H. Cotter Oderwald, 108, of Springfield, Va., formerly of Clifton, died Friday (April 12, 2002) at her home after a short illness.
Visitation will be from noon Wednesday until the 1 p.m. services at the Knapp Funeral Home, Clifton. Rev. William Callister will officiate.
Burial will be in the Clifton cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
She was born Aug. 23, 1893, in Milks Grove Township(Clifton), the daughter of Richard and Cassie Neeman Cotter.
Her husband, George T. Oderwald, whom she married Dec. 22, 1920, in Chebanse, died March 17, 1991.
Surviving are several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Two sons, Earl and Alvin, are deceased.
She was a member of the Lutheran church.

Kathleen Richardson

LUDLOW -- Kathleen V. Richardson, 81, of Ludlow, and the sister of a Piper City resident, died Sunday (April 14, 2002) at Heartland Health Care, Paxton, after a one month illness.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7:30 p.m. rosary service, at the Ford-Baier Funeral Home, Paxton.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Thomasboro. The Rev. Stanley Malinowski will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Elizabeth cemetery, Thomasboro.
Memorials may be made to St. Elizabeth Church, Thomasboro; to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Paxton; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
She was born Aug. 21, 1920, in Paxton, the daughter of Frank and Mabel Ostrom Richardson.
Surviving are two sisters and one brother-in-law, Barbara Richardson of Ludlow, and Pat and Jerry Rydell of Paxton; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Bev Richardson of Piper City, Vince and Esther Richardson of Shorewood, and Jim and Gertie Richardson of Thomasboro; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Two brothers and three sisters are deceased.
She was a 1938 graduate of Paxton High School.
Miss Richardson was employed as an accountant with Uniroyal, Mishawaka, Ind. for 45 years, retiring in 1987.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ludlow, and the Altar and Rosary Society at South Bend, Ind., and Ludlow.
She was also a member of the Uniroyal Choral Group of Mishawaka and the Uniroyal Ladies Club.
She enjoyed playing cards and baking.

Larry Hebert

Larry Hebert, 51, of Kankakee, died Sunday (April 14, 2002) at his home.
Arrangements are pending at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home.
