Ruth Butler
Graveside services for Ruth Elizabeth Butler, 79, of Kankakee, formerly of Pittsburgh, Pa., will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Monteur Cemtery˝, Pittsburgh.
Arrangements are by the Senesac Kankakee Funeral Home.
Mrs. Butler died Wednesday (Jan. 30, 2002).
She was born March 24, 1922, in Union Towne, Pa., the daughter of John and Ethyl Bowling Layhre.
Surviving are her husband, Wiley W. Butler, whom she married Nov. 18, 1973, in Kankakee; three daughters, Jaycee Davis of Rocky Mountain, N.C., Kathy Jobkar of Pittsburgh, Pa., Roxanne Gruneritz of Indianapolis, Ind.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and foster son, Matthew Sipple of Orland Park.
Brothers and sisters are deceased.
Mrs. Butler had been a longtime employee of the Daily Journal working in the circulation department.

Delbert Hatley
Delbert Earl Hatley, 87, of Miller Center, Kankakee, died Thursday (Jan. 31, 2002).
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Saturday until the 10 a.m. services at Immanuel Baptist Church, Kankakee. Pastor Edward Hedding will officiate.
Burial will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church, where he had been a member for 64 years.
Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
He was born Nov. 28, 1914, in Union County, Ill., the son of Thomas and Bessie Tucker Hatley.
Surviving are his wife, the former Ruth Grizzell, whom he married Sept. 4, 1938, at Immanuel Baptist Church, Kankakee; one son and daughter-in- law, Edward and Carol Hatley of Kankakee; one daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Ann and Michael Puffer of Kankakee; grandchildren, Beth Ann and Jim Kuhr, Paul and Kelly Puffer, Rick and Toni Hassett and Romy and Brad Mietzner; and nine great-grandchildren.
One son, James Hatley, is deceased.
He attended Kankakee High School and participated in sports on the swimming and basketball teams.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II on a repair ship in the Pacific Theater.
Mr. Hatley had worked for General Foods and retired from the Roper Corporation after 22 years of service.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Kankakee American Legion.
He enjoyed scuba diving.

William Thompson
ROBERTS - William C. Thompson, 71, of Roberts, died Thursday (Jan. 31, 2002) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the Lamb-Young Funeral Home, Roberts.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Roberts Gym. Rev. Robert Hoover will officiate.
Burial will be in Lyman Township cemetery, Roberts.
Memorials may be made to the Roberts Gym Fund or to a charity of the donor's choice.
He was born March 17, 1930, in St. Louis, Mo., the son of William A. and Mabel I. Corner Thompson.
Surviving are his wife, the former Ardelle Cook, whom he married May 3, 1952, in Urbana; one son, Roger William Thompson of Roberts; two daughters, Kay (Ray) Houtzel of Loda, Lynn (David) Weckhorst of Champaign; one sister, Mary Jane Peters of Walnut Creek, Calif.; one brother, James F. Thompson of Roberts; and three grandchildren.
His twin sister, Betty Peters, is deceased.
He was a 1948 graduate of Roberts High School.
Mr. Thompson worked for Hicks Oil and Hicksgas in Roberts for 48 years as a bookkeeper, retiring in 1995.
He was a member of the Roberts Village Board, the Roberts Gym Board and the Roberts Men's Community Club. He was active with many of the activities and the success of Roberts Gym.

Robert Hansen
GILMAN - Robert Eugene Hansen, 70, of Gilman, died Thursday (Jan. 31, 2002) at his home.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, with an 8 p.m. rosary service, at the Redenius Funeral Home, Gilman.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Church, Gilman.

Stewart Miles
DWIGHT - Visitation for Stewart Charles Miles Jr., 9 months, of Dwight, will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hager Memorial Home, Dwight, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Rev. Daniel Woodward will officiate.
Burial will be in Oaklawn cemetery, Dwight.
Memorials may be made to the Bank of Dwight for family medical expenses.
Stewart died Friday (Jan. 25, 2002) at Loyola University Hospital, Maywood.
He was born April 2, 2001, in Pontiac, the son of Stewart Sr. and Crystal Light Miles.
Surviving besides his parents are one sister, Dezerai of Dwight; and one brother, Cody Light of Dwight.

Edith Wallschlaeger
PEOTONE - Edith J. Wallschlaeger, 81, a resident of Peotone for 20 years, and formerly of Mokena, died Thursday (Jan. 31, 2002).
Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Sunday at the Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, Peotone, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday. Rev. Bruce Humbert will officiate.
Burial will be in St. John's cemetery, Mokena.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Research Fund.
She was born Aug. 20, 1920, in Chicago, the daughter of O'Learance Cook and Jean Fotheringham Bruce.
Her husband, Runo Wallsch-laeger, is deceased.
Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Lawrence Wahls of Chicago, Alan and Barbara Wallschlaeger of Elmhurst; two daughters and one son-in-law, Jean and Terry Lalumendre of Peotone, Bonnie Wallschlaeger of Kankakee; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
One grandson, Alan Wallsch-laeger Jr., is deceased.
Mrs. Wallschlaeger was a former bookkeeper for Hart, Schaffner, Marx Inc. of Chicago.
She was a member of the Sauk Trail Baptist Temple.

Grace Deatti
Visitation for Grace M. Deatti, 86, of Kankakee, will be from 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. George Catholic Church.
Burial will be in Mt. Calvary cemetery, Kankakee.
Mrs. Deatti died Thursday (Jan. 31, 2002) at Riverside Medical Center, after an extended illness.
She was born Dec. 28, 1915, the daughter of Joseph and Virginia Lupo DeCarlo.
Her husband, Frank Deatti, whom she married July 3, 1935, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, died March 30, 1985.
Surviving are one son, John F. Deatti of Kankakee; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Myron Moody of Wilmington, Joann and Armand Story of Grant Park; one sister, Jennie Leone of Kankakee; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Three brothers, Sam, Joseph and Vincent DeCarlo; and one sister, Angelina Giacchino, are deceased.
Mrs. Deatti was retired from Kankakee Roper after more than 32 years of service.
She was a former member of St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Church.

Barbara Hicks
ST. ANNE - Visitation for Barbara Ann Hicks, 61, of Omaha, Neb., formerly of St. Anne, will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, with a 7 p.m. wake service, at the Clancy-Gernon-Houk Funeral Home, St. Anne.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anne Catholic Church. Rev. James Fanale will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Church cemetery, Beaverville.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Hicks died Tuesday (Jan. 29, 2002) at the Methodist Hospital, Omaha.
She was born July 9, 1940, at Iroquois Memorial Hospital, Watseka, the daughter of Meddie and Amanda Regnier Dionne. Her parents are deceased.
Surviving are her husband, Raymond Hicks, whom she married Jan. 9, 1960, in St. Anne; one son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Susan Hicks of Omaha, Neb.; one daughter and son-in-law, Chris and Mike Meinhelt of Des Plaines; and two granddaughters.
One brother, Francis; and one sister-in-law, Darlene, are deceased.
Mrs. Hicks attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Omaha.
She enjoyed handcrafts and traveling.

Edward Schultz
HERSCHER - Edward A. Schultz, 73, of Herscher, died Saturday (April 6, 2002) at his home.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais, and from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the 11 a.m. service at Trinity Lutheran Church in Herscher. The Rev. Gary Ruckman will officiate.
Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran cemetery in Herscher.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley, or to County West Relay for Life (American Cancer Society).
Mr. Schultz was born Nov. 9, 1928, in Herscher, the son of Arthur F. and Freda Dummer Schultz. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are his wife, the former Vicky Kerouac, whom he married Oct. 2, 1956, in Sullivan, Ind., of Herscher; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and Wendy Schultz of Crescent City, Douglas and Karen Schultz of St. Joseph, Mo., and Gregory and Anne Schultz of Herscher; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Jeanne and Michael Foltz of Cabery, Debra and Tim Chmielowiec, and Shari Collins, all of Herscher, and Monica and Michael Weimann of Beech Grove, Tenn.; one sister, Evelyn Bauer of Herscher; one brother and sister-in-law, Laverne and Marilyn Schultz of Herscher; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one cousin, Sharon Dummer.
Mr. Schultz was a life-long farmer on the family farm.
He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Herscher, the Herscher American Legion, and the Clifton VFW.
He was a machinist, and enjoyed fishing, gardening, camping and fixing things.

John Weakman
PONTIAC - John Francis "Jack" Weakman, 81, of Pontiac, formerly of Piper City, died Saturday (April 6, 2002) at Livingston Manor in Pontiac.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Brenton cemetery in Piper City with military rites by the Gibb American Legion Post 588 of Piper City.
Memorials may be made to the Gibb American Legion Post 588 of Piper City.
Arrangements are by Reilly-Redenius Funeral Home in Piper City.
Mr. Weakman was born Nov. 12, 1920, in Brenton Township, Piper City, the son of John L. and Estella Zeh Weakman.
Surviving are one sister, Ethel E. Rapp on Pontiac; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Earl and Janet Weakman of Wing, and Donald and Mary Sue Weakman of Piper City.
One brother, Calvin; and one infant sister, Lois, are deceased.
Mr. Weakman was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He was a security guard at Long Beach Naval Base in Long Beach, Calif.
