Nelrose Pence

Nelrose Pence, 76, of Bradley, died today (Feb. 17, 2003).

Arrangements are pending at the Schreffler Funeral Homes.

Laureen Baldwin

FAIRBORN, Ohio -- Laureen E. Baldwin of Fairborn, Ohio, formerly of Kankakee and Bradley, died Sunday (Feb. 9, 2003) surrounded by her loving family.

Cremation rites were accorded.

Burial will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be sent to Wesley United Methodist Church, 500 N. Cleveland, Bradley IL 60915.

Her husband, Harley Baldwin, is deceased.

Surviving are one son, Harley Baldwin; one daughter, Lorraine (Susie) King; one granddaughter, Lori Ann Schumacher; two grandsons, Troy Baldwin and Ronn King; and a great-grandson, Joshua Ryan Schumacher.

Her parents, two brothers, and one sister are deceased.

A longtime resident of Kankakee and Bradley, she was an active member of the Wesley United Methodist Church.

Elizabeth Bowry

WINCHESTER, Tenn. -- Elizabeth E. "Bessie" Bowry, 94, of Winchester, Tenn., and the mother of a Kankakee resident, died Feb. 9, 2003 at her home.

Services were held Feb. 12 at the Trinity Episcopal Church. Rev. William Midgett officiated.

Burial was in Franklin Memorial Gardens, Winchester, Tenn.

She was born in Norfolk, Va.

Her husbands, Earl Carmain and Monty Bowry, are deceased.

Surviving are one daughter, Rebecca Bean of Winchester, Tenn.; one son, Donald Carmain of Kankakee; 14 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

One daughter, Mary A. Caise; one great-grandson, Joseph Carmain; and one son, James D. Carmain, are deceased.

Robert Brockman
retired electrician

ORLAND PARK -- Robert L. Brockman, 75, of Orland Park, and the father of a Kankakee resident, died Sunday (Feb. 16, 2003) at his home from cancer.

Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. today at the Lawn Funeral Home, 7732 W. 159th St., Orland Park and from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the 11 a.m. services at Christ Lutheran Church, 14700 S. 94th Ave., Orland Park, where he was a member. Rev. Ledogar will officiate.

Mr. Brockman was a retired electrician.

He was born in Blue Island, the son of Louis and Elsie Brockman.

Surviving are his wife, the former Dianne O'Hare, whom he married at Ridge Lutheran Church in Evergreen Park, of Orland Park; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Robert E. and Rosemary Brockman of Kankakee, Dr. David J. and Darlene Brockman of Michigan; two sisters, Elizabeth "Betty" Nagel of Orland Park, Lois Smith of Oak Forest; five grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Marvel Brockman and Nancy Jones; one brother-in-law, Edward (Kathleen) O'Hare; and many nieces and nephews.

One brother, Kenneth Brockman; two brothers-in-law, LeRoy Smith and John Nagel are deceased.

Mr. Brockman was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Cannie Burks

Cannie Burks, 38, of Kankakee, died Friday (Feb. 14, 2003) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital.

Services are tentatively set for Friday.

Arrangements are pending at Lax Mortuary in Kankakee.

Steven Coffman

Steven P. "Steve" Coffman Jr., 23, of Bradley, died Sunday (Feb. 16, 2003) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel in Kankakee, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday. Rev. Hank Roso will officiate.

Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens cemetery.

Memorials may be made to his daughter.

Mr. Coffman was a shipping and receiving clerk at Tyson (4T's Management) in Manteno for three years.

He was born April 17, 1979, in Killeen, Texas, the son of Steven P. Sr. and Vickie Cordes Coffman.

Surviving are his wife, the former Wendi Sommer, whom he married Aug. 12, 1998, of Bradley; one daughter, Chyna Renea Coffman at home; his mother, Vickie Cordes and Bob Koeling of Bradley; his father of Kankakee; one sister and brother-in-law, Vanessa and Jason Capps of Bourbonnais; grandmother, Shirley Coffman of Kankakee; mother-in-law, Debi and Dave Clyden of St. Anne; father-in-law, Richard and Vicki Sommer of Momence; two aunts and four uncles.

An infant son, Gage Anthony Coffman; and grandparents, Vernon and Evelyn Cordes and John Coffman, are deceased.

Mr. Coffman was a member of Gold's Gym.

He enjoyed racing cars, motorcycles and computers.

Lloyd Denler
longtime teacher

PEORIA -- Lloyd R. Denler, 78, of Peoria, formerly of Momence, died Monday (Feb. 17, 2003) at his home.

Cremation rites will be accorded.

There will be no services.

Memorials may be made to OSF Hospice, 530 NE Glen Oak Ave., Peoria, IL 61603.

Wilton Mortuary in Peoria is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Denler was a teacher in the Momence School District for 35 years. He was a 35-year member of the IEA and a past local president.

He was born Dec. 27, 1924, in Bloomington, the son of Lloyd H. and Leola Fry Denler.

Surviving are his wife, the former Ethel Gilbert, whom he married Feb. 14, 1948, in Normal, of Peoria; two sons and daughters-in-law, Fred and Donna Denler of Momence, Alan and Diane Denler of Hanna City; one daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Louis Jackson of Peoria; one brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Gretta Denler of Hannibal, Mo.; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, JoAnn Coleman of Hannibal, Mo., Doris and Howard Todd of Carlock, Phyllis and Kenny Knapp of Palmyra, Mo.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

One sister is deceased.

He graduated from Illinois State University.

Mr. Denler served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a member of the Momence Lutheran Church.

Dorothy Hamilton

Visitation for Dorothy Hamilton, 90, of Kankakee, will be from 3-6 p.m. Thursday at the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Kankakee, where she had been a member since its opening in the 1950's. Rev. Dennis Settles will officiate.

Burial will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley.

She died Monday (Feb. 17, 2003) at the Miller Center in Kankakee.

Mrs. Hamilton had worked for the Bear Brand as a timekeeper in the 1930's.

She was born May 23, 1912, in Whitaker, the daughter of Emery and Anna Legg Jarvis.

Her husband, Charles Russell Hamilton, whom she married Oct. 9, 1937, at St. Patrick's Rectory in Kankakee, died Jan. 3, 1983.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Martha and Charles Buell of Williamsburg, Va., Janet and James Jacob of Rockville, Ind.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and two nieces, Mary Zopf and Christine Jarvis, both of Kankakee.

One brother and sister-in-law, Emery and Gladys Jarvis; and one sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Lawrence Striegel, are deceased.

Mrs. Hamilton was a volunteer for over 40 years at Shapiro Developmental Center and a 20-year volunteer for the Girl Scouts. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and at Gov. Small Memorial Park.

She was a member of the CCW at her church.

Nelrose Pence

Visitation for Nelrose Pence, 77, of Kankakee, will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Bradley Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday. Rev. Craig Sweet will officiate.

Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery in Cabery.

Memorials may be made to the family wishes.

Mrs. Pence died Sunday (Feb. 16, 2003) at ManorCare Nursing Home.

She was born Dec. 1, 1925, in Kempton, the daughter of Clarence and Matie Blank Turner.

Her husband, Lloyd Pence, whom she married July 8, 1950 in Pontiac, is deceased.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Debbie Pence of Louisville, Ky., Terry and Sharlyn Pence of Bradley; one daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Darell Westfall of Clifton; one sister, Nedra Tatro of Chebanse; one brother, Robert Turner of Kankakee; seven grandchildren, Shannon, Aron, Logan, Brock and Kolton Pence, Heather Fox and Becka LaLonde; four great-grandchildren, Tanner, Alana Rose, Andrew and Zach; and one sister-in-law, Kate Turner.

One brother, Kenneth Turner, is deceased.

She was a member of the Methodist faith.

She loved taking care of her ceramics and her doll collection.

Kathleen Perzee

CLIFTON -- Kathleen M. Perzee, 48, of rural Clifton, died today (Feb. 18, 2003) at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, after a lengthy illness.

Arrangements are pending at the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton.

Isidro Ramirez

MOMENCE -- Isidro Ramirez, 47, of Momence, died Sunday (Feb. 16, 2003) from injuries received in an auto accident near Joplin, Mo.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Cotter Funeral Home in Momence.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Momence. Rev. Charles Wheeler will officiate.

Burial will be in St. Patrick cemetery in Momence.

Memorials may be made to the family wishes.

Mr. Ramirez was employed by the Shamrock Turf Nurseries and the Allen Lumber Co. in Momence.

He was born Oct. 1, 1955, in Juan Aldama, Zacatecas, Mexico, the son of Francisco and Luz Hernandez Ramirez. His father is deceased.

Surviving are his wife, the former Maria Martinez, whom he married in 1978, in Mexico, of Momence; one son and daughter-in-law, Isidro Jr. and Julie Ramirez of Momence; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Dora and Jesus Calderon of Kankakee, Elizabeth and Alfredo Ortiz and Marisol Ramirez, all of Momence; his mother of Texas; five brothers, Heriberto Ramirez of Kankakee, Antonio Hernandez of St. Anne, Francisco Ramirez, Alonso Ramirez and Herminio Ramirez, all of Texas; four sisters, Rita Hernandez and Gaby Ramirez, both of Mexico, Irma Ramirez of Texas, Martha Santillanes of Chicago; and eight grandchildren.

He attended St. Teresa Catholic Church in Kankakee and St. Patrick Catholic Church in Momence.

Leonie Ruder

MANTENO -- Leonie Ruder, 83, of Manteno, died today (Feb. 18, 2003) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee.

Arrangements are pending at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Manteno.

Russel McKean

ONARGA -- Services for Russel R. McKean, 91, of Gibson City, were held Feb. 14 at Onarga Methodist Church. Rev. Charles Shelquist officiated.

Mr. McKean died Feb. 10, 2003.

Burial was in Onarga cemetery. Pallbearers were Michael McKean, Jared Brown, Troy Roberts, Joe and Matt Novoto, and David Heriot.
