E. Paul Lee
WWII vet

MOMENCE -- E. Paul Lee, 81, of Momence, died Thursday (Jan. 23, 2003) at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.
Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Cotter Funeral Home in Momence.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of God Worship Center in Bourbonnais, where he was a member. Revs. Rick Sexton and Harry Schmidt will officiate.
Burial, with military rites by the Momence Honor Guard, will be in the Momence cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family wishes.
Mr. Lee had been a janitor at Momence High School for 22 years.
He was born May 22, 1921, in Chautauqua, Kan., the son of Joseph and Beulah Walker Lee.
Surviving are his wife, the former Hilma Williams, whom he married June 20, 1953, in Farmington, Mo., of Momence; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Paula and Vernon Fisher, Valerie and Bill Trudeau and Sandra Lee, all of Momence; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Sharon Stam of Farmington, Mo.; one brother, Naman Lee of Momence; two sisters, Mabel Nations of Farmington, Mo., Mae Carey of Desark, Mo.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Three brothers and one sister are deceased.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II in France and Germany. He was a Purple Heart recipient.
He enjoyed fishing and was a St. Louis Cardinal fan.

Al Bart
all-American in football

KETTERING, Ohio -- Al Bart, 87, formerly of Kankakee, and an all-American tackle on the "Seven Blocks of Granite, " Fordham University's famed football line of the 1930's, died Dec. 29, 2002, at a nursing home in Kettering, Ohio.
He played four seasons for the Chicago Cardinals and three years for the Chicago Bears, both of the National Football League.
After playing and coaching professional football for eight years, he went to work for Fruehauf Trailer Company as a salesman. He lived in Kankakee from 1951 to 1957 while working for Fruehauf. While here, the Barts were members of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
He was born April 19, 1915 in Shenandoah, Pa.
He married his wife, Vera, in November 1939 while a member of the Chicago Cardinals football team. She died in 1983.
Surviving are seven children, Brenda of Westlake Village, Calif., John of Columbus, Ohio, David of Dayton, Ohio, Elaine of Chicago, Kathy of Huntington Beach, Calif., Patty of Denver, Colo. and Janice of Lexington, Mass.; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
One son, Jerry, died in 1975.
Last spring, he returned to the Fordham campus and received an award from Wellington Mara, the Giants' co-owner and a Fordham contemporary. He was scheduled to speak to the football players there before an intrasquad game when he suffered a heart attack on campus and could not give his talk. In the speech he prepared, he had written: "All I can tell you boys is that I wish I could turn back the clock and put on the pads and be one of you. Those were great years."

Ardena Cluver

CISSNA PARK -- Ardena Cluver, 78, of Cissna Park, died today (Jan. 23, 2003) at the Gilman Nursing Pavilion.
Visitation will be Friday at the Knapp Funeral Home in Cissna Park.
Services will be held Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Ash Grove.

Elizabeth Larsen

CLIFTON -- Services for Elizabeth O. Larsen, 85, of Clifton, were held Jan. 20 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Clifton. Rev. William Callister officiated.
Mrs. Larsen died Jan. 15, 2003.
Burial was in Clifton cemetery. Pallbearers were Andy LeRoy, Erik Larsen, Russell Rosenboom, John LeRoy and Mike and LeRoy Krumwiede.

Ethel Peters

CHEBANSE -- Services for Ethel L. Peters, 96, of Chebanse, were held Jan. 17 at the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton. Rev. Kene Whybrew officiated.
Mrs. Peters died Jan. 14, 2003.
Burial was in Evergreen cemetery, Chebanse. Pallbearers were Karl Berns, Lester Anderson, Scott, Paul and Dale Peters, Dennis Martin and Robert Kleine.

Richard Owen

Services for Richard A. Owen, 78, of Bourbonnais, were held Jan. 21 at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. Rev. Michael E. Curtis officiated.
Mr. Owen died Jan. 17, 2003.
Burial was in All Saints cemetery, Bourbonnais.

Alexis "Pat" St. Aubin

MANTENO -- A funeral Mass for Alexis L. "Pat" St. Aubin, 90, of Manteno, was celebrated Jan. 22 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manteno. Revs. Edward Grotovsky, Tony Nugent and Edward O'Malley and Deacon Pete Henrisey co-officiated.
Mr. St. Aubin died Jan. 17, 2003.
Burial was in St. Joseph cemetery, Manteno. Pallbearers were Timothy, Kenric and Stephen Miller, Christopher LaMore and Bryan and Scott Sacadat.

Jack Pomon

A funeral Mass for Jack Daniel Pomon, 22, of rural Kankakee, was celebrated Jan. 22 at St. Teresa Catholic Church. Rev. Gregor Gorsic officiated.
Mr. Pomon died Jan. 18, 2003.
Burial was in the Aroma Park cemetery. Pallbearers were TJ Foulks, Corey and Lenny Pomon, Chris Foulks, Jason, John and Joseph Precup and Dan Buckman.

Keyana McAllister

Visitation for Keyana Latrice Perry McAllister, 22, of Kankakee, will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Jones Funeral Home in Kankakee, and from 9 a.m. Saturday until the 10 a.m. services at Greater New Hope Baptist Church, Kankakee. Earl Baskin Jr. will officiate.
Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens cemetery.
Memorials may be made to her children's trust fund in care of Matthew McAllister.
She died Friday (Jan. 17, 2003) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital.
Mrs. McAllister was a unit service technician at Cigna Healthcare Insurance for three years.
She was born July 8, 1980, in Kankakee, the daughter of Jimmy Ashford and Anne Perry.
Surviving are her husband, Matthew A. McAllister of Kankakee, whom she married Sept. 22, 2002, of Kankakee; one son, Jamari Prestige' Theshawn McAllister of Kankakee; one daughter, Janasia Monet' McAllister of Kankakee; her mother, Ann Perry; her father, Jimmy Ashford; sisters, Tracey and Cutrina Perry of Kankakee, Deidre Willis of Kankakee, Carol Ashford of Detroit, Mich., Anesia Springer of Peru, Ind.; brothers, Morris and Byron Corbitt of Kankakee, Melvin Perry of Columbus, Miss., David Ashford of Detroit, Mich., Irret and Iriette Malone of Peru, Ind., Preston Boulden of Kankakee; two godbrothers; her godmother; two nephews and two nieces.
Her stepfather, Irret Malone, is deceased.
She was a graduate of Kankakee High School and a member of Trinity Baptist Church of Kankakee.

H. Vernon Meents
retired engineer

LIMESTONE -- Visitation for H. Vernon Meents, 85, of Limestone, will be from 10 a.m. Saturday until the noon services at the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes. The Kankakee Masonic Lodge will officiate.
Burial will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Kankakee Masonic Lodge.
He died Monday (Jan. 20, 2003) at Riverside Medical Center.
Mr. Meents was a retired engineer for the Roper Corporation in the design department for many years.
He was born Nov. 10, 1917, in Cullom, the son of Harold R. and Della Raboin Meents.
His wife, the former JLee Fry, whom he married in April 1956 in Kankakee, died in 1993.
Surviving are one sister, Darlene Forsythe of Tempe, Ariz.; one brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Linda Meents of Sun Lakes, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.
One brother, Robert Meents; and one sister, Betty Ashton, are deceased.
Mr. Meents was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Army Air Corps.
He was a member of the Kankakee Masonic Lodge and a 33rd Degree Mason.

Barbara Nielsen

BEECHER -- Barbara H. Nielsen, 87, of Beecher, formerly of Calumet City and Chicago, died Saturday (Jan. 18, 2003) at St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Friday until the noon services at the Hack Funeral Home in Beecher. Deacon Tom McCarthy will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic cemetery, Evergreen Park.
She was born Feb. 20, 1915, in Chicago, the daughter of Frank and Ethel Settergren Hackett.
Her husband, Arthur Nielsen, is deceased.
Surviving are one daughter, Mary C. Davis of Arlington Heights; two stepdaughters, Arlene Populorum of Orland Park, Leanne Carey of Santa Anna, Calif.; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
One sister and one stepdaughter are deceased.
Mrs. Nielsen was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.

Kenneth Wells

Kenneth Eugene Wells, 50, of Kankakee, died Monday (Jan. 20, 2003) at Riverside Medical Center.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. Saturday until the 10 a.m. services at Caldwell Chapel in Kankakee, where he was a member. Rev. Nathan Richmond will officiate.
Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens cemetery.
Jones Funeral Home in Kankakee is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Wells was employed by the Public Works department.
He was born March 24, 1952, in Elkhart, Ind., the son of James A. and Moneta Irving Wells. His father is deceased.
Surviving are one son, Adero Kenard Wells of Minneapolis, Minn.; his mother of Kankakee; one brother-in-law, David Harris of Kankakee; and two grandchildren.
Two sisters, Charlene Wells and Stephanie Harris; and his maternal and paternal grandparents, are deceased.
He enjoyed walking and listening to jazz.
