Robert Cosgrove
former executive of laboratory

GLENWOOD -- Robert J. Cosgrove, 88, of Glenwood, died Saturday (Dec. 28, 2002) at the Illinois Veteran's Home in Manteno.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. Thursday until the 8 p.m. services at the Ryan Funeral Home, 18022 Dixie Hwy. in Homewood. Rev. Kozak will officiate.
Private burial will be held.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Homewood or to the Alzheimer's Association.
Mr. Cosgrove was a retired vice-president of Dawes Laboratories. He was an honorary member of the Chicago Drug and Chemical Association.
He was born April 10, 1914, in L'Anse, Mich., the son of Thomas and Marie McKindles Cosgrove.
Surviving are his wife, the former Joyce Brault, of Glenwood; one son, John Cosgrove; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Nancy and John McErlean of Chicago, Jayne Cosgrove of Glenwood, Melissa and Ken Schafer of Downers Grove; and six grandchildren.
He was a major in the U.S. Army serving during World War II.
Mr. Cosgrove received his bachelor of science degree in mechanical and chemical engineering and an MBA in business.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Homewood.

Walter Glidewell
Roper retiree

Visitation for Walter A. Glidewell, 93, of Bradley, will be from 3-7 p.m. Thursday at the Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel, Kankakee, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday.
Burial will be in Mt. Calvary cemetery, Kankakee.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
He died Monday (Dec. 30, 2002) at Bradley Royale Health Care Center.
Mr. Glidewell had been a carpenter and had worked for the Roper Corporation for many years, retiring in 1975.
He was born Sept. 13, 1909, in Jacob, the son of George and Ada Smith Glidewell.
His wife, Margaurite Borgialli, whom he married June 24, 1933, in Kankakee, died Feb. 17, 1994.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Walter M. "Bud" and Eldora Glidewell of Bradley; four grandsons, Michael and Sharon Glidewell of Bourbonnais, Gregory and Linda Glidewell and David and Tammie Glidewell, all of Bradley, Larry and Cathy Glidewell of St. Anne; one granddaughter, Doreen and R. Todd Soltysik of Wilmington; 14 great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mabel McKinney of Rogers, Ark., Adelyn and Vincent Poskin of Ashkum; one brother and sister-in-law, Willard and Dixie Glidewell of Springdale, Ark.; one half-brother, Henry and Virginia Walsh of Danville; two sisters-in-law, Jennie and Albert Braun of Bourbonnais, Carolyn Borgialli of Kankakee; one brother-in-law, James Marnell of Kankakee; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Glidewell and his wife were avid ballroom dancers for many years.
He enjoyed reading and his garden.

Robert Gray
Conrail retiree

Visitation for Robert E. Gray Jr., 81, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Kankakee, will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel, Kankakee, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday.
Burial, with military rites by the Kankakee American Legion Post 85, will be in Mound Grove Gardens cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family wishes.
He died Saturday (Dec. 28, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee.
Mr. Gray retired from Conrail after more than 30 years of service.
He was born June 26, 1921, in Chicago, the son of Robert E. Sr. and Catherine O'Donnell Gray. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are his wife, the former Charlene Lucus, whom he married Dec. 24, 1965, at Asbury United Methodist Church; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Richard L. Gray of Bourbonnais, Robert E. III and Wanda Gray of Bradley, James L. Gray of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
One brother, Edward O'Donnell; and two sisters, Ruth Gray and Jane Berden, are deceased.
He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran serving during World War II and a Purple Heart recipient.
Mr. Gray was a member of Gethsemane United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas.
He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Joseph Gustin,
retired from Roper

SUN CITY, Ariz. -- Joseph Frank Gustin, 90, of Sun City, Ariz., formerly of Bradley, died Monday (Dec. 23, 2002).
A memorial service was held Dec. 28 at St. Clements Catholic Church, Sun City, where he was a member.
Burial was in Sunland cemetery, Sun City.
Memorials may be made to the Health Care Odyssey Hospice, 8977 W. Athens St., Peoria, Ariz. 85382.
He was born Feb. 25, 1912 in Chisholm, Minn.
Mr. Gustin was retired from Bradley Roper Corporation where he was a master mechanic tool and die man. Upon his retirement he moved to Sun City, Ariz. with his wife of 70 years, Lorene. She is deceased.
Surviving are two daughters, Jacqueline Adame of Bradley, Joann Swinford of Sun City West, Ariz.; two sisters, Mary Swanson and Ann Swanson; four grandchildren, Kathy Dorris of Bourbonnais, Kevin Adame of North Carolina, Michael Swinford of Chicago and Michelle Swinford of Tuscola; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, Matt and Tony Gustin, are deceased.
He enjoyed golfing, bowling and dancing.

Leona Huenerberg
centenarian dies

BEECHER -- Leona Huenerberg, 100, of Beecher, died Sunday (Dec. 29, 2002) in Chicago Heights.
Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Thursday at the Hack Funeral Home in Beecher.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Beecher, where she was a member. Rev. Ron Rock will officiated.
Burial will be in St. Paul's cemetery in Beecher.
Memorials may be made to the Zion Memorial Fund.
She was born Feb. 27, 1902, in Grant Park, the daughter of George and Laura Heller Kiedaisch.
Her husband, Arthur Huenerberg, whom she married Feb. 28, 1926, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Grant Park, died in 1955.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Eldon and Gladys Huenerberg of Beecher; one daughter and son-in-law, Lola Mae and Leslie Kopman of Beecher; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Four sisters, Sylvia Kiedaisch, Elvida Haseman, Elnora Bauermeister and Irene Kiedaisch; and three brothers, Irvin, Welton and Alvin Kiedaisch, are deceased.

Charlicia Vireice Steele

Charlicia Vireice Steele, infant daughter of Charlie Jr. and Felicia Simington Steele of Suffolk, Va., and the granddaughter of area residents, died shortly after birth Saturday (Dec. 21, 2002) at Lewisville Medical Center in Lewisville, Texas.
Cremation rites were accorded.
Surviving besides her parents are one brother, Charlie Steele III; maternal grandparents, David and Virginia Overbey of St. Anne and Greg Simington of Kankakee; paternal grandfather, Charlie Steele Sr. of Norfolk, Va.; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Chris Young

CISSNA PARK -- Private graveside services for Chris E. Young, 93, of Cissna Park, will be held Friday in the German Apostolic Christian cemetery in Cissna Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Iroquois Memorial Hospice.
Knapp Funeral Home in Cissna Park is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Young died Monday (Dec. 30, 2002) at his home.
He was born Dec. 18, 1909, in Buckley, the son of Christ Sr. and Martha Greuter Young. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are his wife, the former Hanna Gschwind, whom he married Sept. 25, 1935, in Waukegan, of Cissna Park; nine children, Carlotta Young of Cissna Park, Rhoda (Bob) Minard of Findley, Lyle (Frances) Young and Curtis Young, all of Cissna Park, Allen (Lynn) Young of Fairbury, Marna Lou Young, Dennis (Cindy) Young, Bernita (Martin) Edelman, Ivan (Tricia) Young, all of Cissna Park; 15 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Martha Young of Cissna Park; and one brother, Ralph Young of Cissna Park.
Two brothers; two sisters; and one son-in-law, Cecil, are deceased.
Mr. Young was a member of the German Apostolic Christian Church in Cissna Park.

G. Chester Berg
vice president of company

BLOOMINGTON -- G. Chester Berg, 84, of Bloomington, formerly of Cissna Park, died Sunday (Dec. 22, 2002) at his home.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 502 E. Front St. in Bloomington.
Private burial will be held in the Danforth cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church or to BroMenn Hospice Services in Bloomington.
Mr. Berg had worked at the Ford County FS in Melvin. After various positions with the company, he ended his career with GrowMark in 1980 as vice-president of Supply Service.
He was born March 15, 1918, the son of Robert and Bertha Svensson Berg.
Surviving are his wife, the former Dorothy Frerichs, whom he married July 19, 1941, in Danforth; three daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Richard Eschner of Shorewood, Wis., Beth and Terry Taylor of Hoffman Estates, Linda and Eric Jacobson of Bartlett; one son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Laurie Berg of Bartlett; seven grandchildren; one sister, Esther Johnson of Watseka; many nieces and nephews; and other family members in the area.
Two brothers, Carl and Leonard Berg; and one sister, Helen Stephens, are deceased.
His youth was spent in Cissna Park and he was a graduate of East Lynn High School.
Mr. Berg served with the U.S. Army from 1942-1946, serving with the 806 Tank Destroyer Battalion.

Charles Fletcher
conservationist

JOLIET -- Charles Fletcher, 82, staunch conservationist, former Will County resident, died Dec 9, 2002 in Decatur.
He is credited with getting many conservation practices started in Will and Southern Cook Counties, mainly through neighborhood groups.
Fletcher died following a lingering illness. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; a son, Scott of Georgia; and a daughter, Bonnie DeNully of Idaho.
Fletcher served the Soil Conservation Service in the Will County Soil and Water Conservation District from 1954 to 1959. He was instrumental in the development of the South Cook Soil and Water Conservation District which was organized in 1953. The two districts combined in 1962 to become the Will/South Cook Soil and Water Conservation District.
Alan May, retired cistrict conservationist, who served Will/South Cook from 1957 through 1985, worked with Fletcher. He remembers his dedication in getting conservation practices started. Districts were new and there much to be done in soil and water conservation on the farms during those times, he said.
Fletcher organized leader meetings, which became popular events for many years.
