BRACEVILLE -- George H. Ballenger, 79, of Braceville, died Thursday (Aug. 7, 2003) at his home. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Sunday until the 1 p.m. services at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Braidwood Chapel.

John Caufield Jr.

ASHKUM -- John Shy Caufield Jr., 54, of Ashkum, died July 29, 2003 at his home. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Danville VA National cemetery. Arrangements are by the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka. He was born Nov. 9, 1948, in Chicago, the son of John Shy Sr. and Florence R. Brink Caufield. Mr. Caufield served in the U.S. Air Force.

Jorge G. Davide, 75, of Bourbonnais, formerly of Laguna, Philippines, died Thursday (Aug. 7, 2003) at his home, after an extended illness. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. today at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradley. Cremation rites will be accorded. Memorials may be made to the family wishes. Mr. Davide was an agronomist. He was a retired fertilizer consultant with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. He was born July 27, 1928, in Colawin Argao Cebu, Philippines, the son of Hilario P. Sr. and Josefa Gelbolingo Davide. His mother is deceased. Surviving are his wife, the former Paula Santas, whom he married Aug. 10, 1957, in the Philippines, of Bourbonnais; one son and daughter-in-law, Jorge Jr. and Julie Therese Davide of the Philippines; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Carolina Davide of Bourbonnais, Teresita and Michael Amore of Honolulu, Hawaii, Susanna and Stephen Edwards of Hong Kong, China; his father of the Philippines; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Paz Aragon of the Philippines, Lina and Reynaldo Ong of DeKalb; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Jose and Crescencia Davide, Oscar and Gloria Davide, Romulo and Clara Davide, Hilario Jr. and Virginia Davide, all of the Philippines; and four grandchildren, Anna Davide, Matthew and Lucia Amore and Katherine Edwards. He received a bachelor of science degree in agriculture from the University of the Philippines, a master of science degree from Cornell University and a Ph.D. from North Carolina State University. Mr. Davide attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradley and was active at his church in the Philippines. He enjoyed gardening.

ST. ANNE -- Donald Dixon, 54, of St. Anne, died Wednesday (Aug. 6, 2003) at his home. A private memorial service was held. In accordance with his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Memorials may be made to the family. Fitzpatrick Funeral Directors in Kankakee is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Dixon was a laborer, dry waller and window washer. He was born July 16, 1949, in Kankakee, the son of George and Geneva Janczak Dixon. His parents are deceased. Surviving are his wife, the former Pamala Szozda, whom he married April 15, 1977, in Kankakee, of St. Anne; one daughter, Mandie Dixon of St. Anne; two grandchildren, Jordan and Jaelin; one brother-in-law, Bud Beasley; four nieces and one nephew; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. One sister, Diane Beasley, is deceased. Mr. Dixon served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Aroma Park American Legion and the Bradley VFW. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, music, outdoors and wildlife, and friends.

Richard M. Gilbert, 49, of Kankakee, died Tuesday (Aug. 5, 2003) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital. Cremation rites have been accorded by Hertz-Thoma Crematory. Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Gilbert was a computer-aided draftsman. He was born Feb. 11, 1954, in LaCrosse, Wis., the son of LaVerne R. and Lois Beilfuss Gilbert. His father is deceased. Surviving are his mother of Palos Heights; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Joyce and Richard Alvarez of Tampa, Fla., Diane and Charles Volpi of Troy, Idaho, Donna Vitelli of Westmont, Jeanne Gilbert of Evergreen Park; and five brothers and one sister-in-law, Wayne Gilbert of Anchorage, Alaska, James Gilbert of Blue Island, Carl Gilbert of Silver Springs, Colo., Steve and Lisa Gilbert of Mokena and Lee Gilbert of Milwaukee, Wis. One sister, Judy Gilbert, is deceased.

PEOTONE -- Rosalie T. Grady, 77, of Peotone, died Thursday (Aug. 7, 2003) at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee. Visitation will be from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the Forsythe Funeral Home in Manhattan. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manhattan. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery. Her husband, Delbert Grady, is deceased. Surviving are three daughters, Kathleen Haley, Jean Wiswell and Mary Iutnicki, all of Kankakee; four sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Kathy Grady, Joseph and Alice Grady, Robert and Carol Grady, Gerald and Janie Grady, all of Kankakee; several grandchildren; and two sisters and one brother-in-law, Aurora Toepper and Rita and Lester Robbins, all of Manhattan. Her parents, Adlore and Leah Brais Martell; two brothers, Armand and Paul Martell; and two sisters, Blanche Olsen and Annette Trepanier, are deceased.

DWIGHT -- Visitation for Violet Irene Jacobsgaard, 89, of Dwight, will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Hager Memorial Home, Dwight. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Congregational United Church of Christ, where she was a member. Rev. Pam Gnasch-Boythe will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn cemetery in Dwight. Memorials may be made to the Congregational United Church of Christ, Heritage Manor or to the donor's choice. Mrs. Jacobsgaard had taught school and was a retired activity director from the W.W. Fox Children's Center in Dwight. She was born April 10, 1914, in Boscobel, Wis., the daughter of Caleb and Alma Christensen Bennington. Surviving are her husband, Clarence Jacobsgaard, whom she married Dec. 8, 1934, in Pontiac, of Dwight; one daughter, Lynn Ellen Gassman of Dwight; two sons and daughters-in-law, Harold and Miriam Jacobsgaard of Shorewood, Lyle and Lois Jacobsgaard of Topeka, Kan.; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and one adopted granddaughter. One son, David; two brothers, Calvin and Frank Bennington; and one sister, Gladys Bennington, are deceased. She received her teaching degree from Illinois State University. Mrs. Jacobsgaard was a member of the Danish Brotherhood, Home Extension, Dwight Senior Citizens and the Congregational Church Women's Guild. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, quilting, cooking, baking and crocheting.

MOMENCE -- Danny D. Kennedy, 45, of Momence, died Thursday (Aug. 7, 2003) from injuries sustained in an auto accident. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Cotter Funeral Home in Momence. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Momence, where he was a member. Rev. Bill Steger will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded. Memorials may be made to the family wishes. Mr. Kennedy was store manager for CVS in Cedar Lake, Ind. He and his wife, Joy, had owned and operated the Gathering Place restaurant in Momence for many years. He was born Jan. 2, 1958, in Omaha, Neb., the son of James M. and Janet L. Poncelow Kennedy. His father is deceased. Surviving are his wife, the former Joy B. Webb, whom he married Nov. 17, 1978, in Portage, Ind., of Momence; two daughters and one son-in-law, Jennifer and Scott Billadeau of Naperville, Jessica Kennedy of Indianapolis, Ind.; four grandchildren; his mother of Portage, Ind.; one sister, Peggy Lenzendorf of Prairie Du Chien, Wis.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike and Mary Kennedy of Portage, Ind., Steve and Cindy Kennedy of Fort Meyers, Fla., Patrick and Julie Kennedy of Portage, Ind.; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Barbara and Olen Childers of Adel, Ga. Mr. Kennedy was a member of the Thursday night golf league at Minne Monesse Golf Club. He enjoyed cooking, golf and bowling.

SHERMAN -- Charlene Meents, 56, of Sherman, sister of a Crescent City resident, died Wednesday (Aug. 6, 2003) at Memorial Medical Center. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the Vancil Memorial Funeral Chapel, 437 S. Grand Ave. West, Springfield, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday. Rev. David Hultberg will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Meents was a word processor for SIU School of Medicine. She was born May 28, 1947, in Springfield, the daughter of Stephen and Wilma Lee Orme. Surviving are her husband, Gerald Meents, whom she married in 1968 in Sherman; two daughters, Julie Novosel of Riverton and Stephanie Meents of Dupo; her mother of Riverton; one brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Mary Ann Orme of Williamsville; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Wyona O'Hara of Crescent City, Marsha and Roger Branson of Sherman, Wanda and Russel Kunz of Springfield; three grandsons; and 14 nieces and nephews. Mrs. Meents was president and race director for Midwest Auto Racing Association for many years. She was a member of the Methodist faith.

Peter Michelich

Peter A. Michelich, 62, of Kankakee, died Thursday (Aug. 7, 2003) at the Kankakee Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Visitation will be from noon-4 p.m. Sunday at the Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday. Rev. Dan Morris will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in Chebanse. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Mr. Michelich was a self-employed excavator. He was born Oct. 28, 1940, in Kankakee, the son of Anton and Lucille Grosso Michelich. His father is deceased. Surviving are his wife, the former Judith Giusto, whom he married Oct. 19, 1963, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church; two sons and one daughter-in-law, David Michelich and Paul and Tracy Michelich, all of Kankakee; one daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Ronald L. Giasson of St. Anne; his mother of Bradley; one sister, Betty LaGesse of Kankakee; one brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Nancy Michelich of Chebanse; two grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren. Mr. Michelich served in the U.S. Army Reserves for six years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.

Constance Moilan

Visitation for Constance "Connie" C. Moilan, 79, of Bourbonnais, will be from 3-8 p.m. Sunday, with a 6 p.m. Women of the Moose ritual at the Bourbonnais Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradley, where she was a member. Rev. John Antczak will officiate. Burial will be in All Saints cemetery in Bourbonnais. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society or to the Kankakee Chapter of the Women of the Moose. She died Wednesday (Aug. 6, 2003) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee. Mrs. Moilan was a bookkeeper for Lang Electric, Blitz Electric and Englewood Electric for almost 40 years. She was born Sept. 8, 1923, in Bradley, the daughter of Joseph and Pearl Walters Mulligan. Her father is deceased. She married Donald LaCost in 1941. He died in 1977. Her second husband, James W. Moilan, whom she married in 1964, died in 1988. Surviving are one daughter, Lauren M. LaCost and Laura Bacon of Bradenton, Fla.; her mother of Bourbonnais; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ret. Col. James and Phyllis Mulligan of Swannanoa, N.C., Joseph and Nancy Mulligan of Tucson, Ariz.; caretakers and special friends, Med and Mary Joubert and Judy Boudreau, all of Bourbonnais; one uncle and aunt, David and Verna Walters of Bourbonnais; and several nieces and nephews. One infant brother, Orville Mulligan, is deceased. She was a member of the Moose and was a past senior regent for the Women of the Moose. Mrs. Moilan was a member emeritus and past officer of the Kankakee Women's Bowling Association (KWBA) and a 40-year member of the Women's International Bowling Association in which she held offices. She was also a member of the Kankakee County Humane Society, the Bradley American Legion Auxiliary 766, the Bradley VFW Auxiliary 6502, the Tuesday PM Euchre Club, the Bradley-Bourbonnais Senior Citizens and the CCW of her church. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She was a Bulls, Bears and Cubs fan.

WATSEKA -- Brian Eugene Richardson, 30, of Watseka, died today (Aug. 8, 2003). Arrangements are pending at the Baier Funeral Home in Watseka.

Raymond Schmohe

WOODWORTH -- Visitation for Raymond H. Schmohe, 86, of Woodworth, longtime road commissioner, will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka and from 9 a.m. Monday until the 10 a.m. services at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Woodworth. Rev. James Ritter will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran cemetery, Woodworth. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Iroquois Memorial Hospice, Prairieview Lutheran Home or to the American Cancer Society. He died Thursday (Aug. 7, 2003) at his home. He was a former Ash Grove Township Road Commissioner for over 20 years retiring in 1994. Mr. Schmohe was a self-employed milk hauler for over 30 years. He also worked for Woodworth Electric and the State of Illinois Highway Department. He was born Jan. 13, 1917, in Buckley, the son of John and Lydia Schumacher Schmohe. Surviving are his wife, the former Esther E. Nielsen, whom he married Aug. 17, 1937, in Lowell, Ind., of Woodworth; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Shirley and Earl Carpenter of Westfield, N.J., Donna and Lance Neward of Salt Lake City, Utah, Eileen and Dennis Zecher of Crescent City, Karen Schmohe of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ron and Carolyn Schmohe of Rossville, Jim and Connie Schmohe of Cincinnati, Ohio; one sister and brother-in-law, Verna and Al Trasatti of Galt, Calif.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. One brother, Willard Schmohe; one sister, Irene Schleef; and two sons, Roger and Dennis Duane, are deceased. Mr. Schmohe was a Little League coach and 4-H leader for over 20 years. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he served in several church offices.

Rev. Eugene M. "Gene" Seaman

GILMAN -- Rev. Eugene M. "Gene" Seaman, 76, died Thursday (Aug. 7, 2003) at the Gilman Nursing Pavilion. He was born Feb. 13, 1927, at Methodist Hospital in Peoria. He was the adopted son of Roy E. and Bessie M. Bradford Seaman. He grew up in Rantoul and attended public schools there. He spent 20 years in the insurance business in Iroquois and Kankakee counties and became the Illinois State Manager for his company. He was active in the Gideons, a Christian lay organization, and was the 6th District vice president of the organization. He entered the ministry through the United Methodist Church in 1961. He pastored churches in Braceville, South Wilmington, Gilman, Groveland, Granite City and Pinckneyville, retiring from there in 1991. After his retirement he moved to Gilman with his wife, Eunice Holland Voigt Seaman, but stayed active in the ministry by pastoring the Ritchey United Methodist Church. He attended the University of Illinois and graduated with a bachelor's degree in theology from Olivet Nazarene University. He earned a master's of divinity from Garrett-Evangelical Seminary in Evanston. Rev. Seaman did his doctoral studies at Drew University in Madison, N.J. His first wife of 27 years, the former Geraldine Zellars whom he married in 1947, is deceased. Surviving are his wife, the former Eunice Holland Voigt, whom he married in 1975; children and stepchildren, Mark (Linda) Seaman of Des Moines, Iowa, Bradford (Debbie) Seaman of Greenwood, Ind., Douglas (Annette) Seaman of Sachse, Texas, Bob Akens of Wasilla, Alaska, Michelle Gauhauner of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Craig (Debby) Voigt of Tolono, Beth (Roger) Ransom of Imperial, Mo.; 16 grandchildren, David, Melissa, Christian, Elizabeth, Paul, Brent, Jill, Bradford, Peggy Sue, Milly Jo, Johny, Andrew, Cole, Zack, Celina and Briana; six great-grandchildren, Andrew, Zachary, Sean, Brennen, Abigail and Kenidi; one sister, Betty (Robert) Good of Rantoul; and nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a stepdaughter, Marsha Akens. He was ordained a Deacon in the United Methodist Church in 1972 and Elder in 1975 in the Central Illinois Conference. He served churches in both the Central and Southern Illinois Annual Conferences. During his tenure of ministry he served the Conference Council of Ministries as adult coordinator and on the Board of Pensions. He served on committees in districts and the conference. At one time he belonged to the Lions Club. He was Legion commander twice, once at he Milford Post and again at Gilman post. He was Parent Teacher president, Cub Scout master, Little League coach, a member of Ministerial Alliances, a hospital chaplain and Moose Club member. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. He also served in the U.S. Navy Reserves and received two Battleship honorable discharges. He was listed in Who's Who in American Religion in 1977. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the Redenius Funeral Home in Gilman. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16 at the United Methodist Church in Gilman. Inurnment, with military rites by the Gilman American Legion Post 499, will be in the Gilman cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Iroquois Memorial Hospice or to the Gilman Nursing Pavilion.

Francis Shear

GILMAN -- Francis "Lyle" Shear, 78, of Gilman, died Thursday (Aug. 7, 2003) at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka. Arrangements are pending at the Redenius Funeral Home in Gilman.

Roger Wiest

LIMESTONE -- Roger J. Wiest, 75, of Limestone, died Wednesday (Aug. 6, 2003) at his home. There will be no visitation or services. Cremation rites have been accorded by the County Line Crematory in Chebanse. Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Wiest was a social work supervisor for the state of California for about 18 years. He was born June 14, 1928, in Moline, the son of John and Ethel Glabe Wiest. Surviving are his wife, the former Constance "Connie" Wily, whom he married Aug. 31, 1952, in California, of Limestone; one son and daughter-in-law, Fritz and Mari Wiest of Berlin, Germany; three daughters and sons-in-law, Becky and Rick Ramos of Africa, Wilma and Duard Wilson of Limestone, Nina and Andy Hooper of Seattle, Wash.; and six grandchildren. He was a member of River Valley Christian Fellowship in Bradley.

Virginia Wilson

PESOTUM -- Virginia Mary Wilson, 82, of Pesotum, wife of a former Kankakee resident, died Wednesday (Aug. 6, 2003) at the Arthur Home in Arthur. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Edwards Funeral Home, 400 S. Main St., Tuscola, where services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Revs. Donald Winch and John Tymonko will officiate. Memorials may be made to the Arthur Home. She was born Oct. 25, 1920, in Iroquois County, the daughter of William H. and Mary Cheadle Verhoeks. Surviving are her husband, Lester C. Wilson, whom she married Aug. 17, 1942, in Ontario, Canada, of Pesotum, formerly of Kankakee; one son and daughter-in-law, David L. and Cheryl Wilson of Aurora, Colo.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Carol and Richard Yoder of Arthur, Sue Daniels of Bloomington; and one brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Jeannine Verhoeks of Sebring, Fla. Two brothers, Victor and Gene Verhoeks, are deceased. Mrs. Wilson was a longtime member of the Tuscola United Presbyterian Church, and in recent years attended the Parkville United Methodist Church. She participated in choirs of the churches she attended and was a soloist for weddings, funerals and other celebrations.
