William Pohl Sr.
GARDNER - Visitation for William L. Pohl Sr., 84, of Gardner, will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Braidwood Chapel.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Assumption Catholic Church, Coal City, where he was a member. The Rev. Donald O'Connor will officiate.
Burial will be in Braceville- Gardner cemetery, Braceville.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Mr. Pohl died Thursday (Sept. 28, 2000) at Morris Hospital.
He was born Oct. 27, 1915, in Diamond, the son of William and Clara Henke Pohl Lankers.
Surviving are his wife, the former Rita Biros, whom he married Oct. 4, 1940, in Coal City; one son and daughter-in-law, William C. Jr. and Carol Pohl of Gardner; one brother, Francis Pohl of Fort Myers, Fla.; one sister, Madlyn Ferrari of Coal City; one step-sister, Anne Nowman of Morris; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
His stepfather, John Lankers; stepbrother, John Lankers and stepsister, Ella Red, are deceased.
He was educated in Coal City schools.
Mr. Pohl had been employed as a carpenter/pipe insulator for Carpenters Local 195 in Ottawa for 40 years, retiring in 1970.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 967, Morris, the Knights of Columbus 1574, Braidwood and a 4th Degree member of the Bishop McNamara Council.

Jose Mejia
ONARGA - Jose Mejia, 33, of Onarga, died Thursday (Sept. 28, 2000) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
Arrangements are pending at the Knapp Funeral Home, Onarga.

Lois Strode
Lois Strode, 86, of Bourbonnais, died Thursday (Sept. 28, 2000) at Miller Health Care Center.
Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Sunday at the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Martin Gutzmer will officiate.
Burial will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of America or to Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was a member.
She was born March 26, 1914, in Batchtown, the daughter of Charles and Rose Maude Batchelder Zigrang.
Surviving are her husband, Oscar Strode, whom she married March 6, 1935, in Alton; one son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Judy Strode of Clinton; one daughter and son-in-law, Nina and Joe Wakeley of Bourbonnais; one sister, Theresa Brown of Alton; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
One brother, Charles Zigrang; and one sister, Bernice McKinney, are deceased.
She was a member of the United Methodist Women.
She loved to sew.

L.A. Shoemaker
PIPER CITY - Visitation for L.A. "Louie" Shoemaker, 83, a resident of Palmwood Healthcare Center, Piper City, and formerly of Chatsworth, will be from 10 a.m. Saturday until the 11 a.m. services at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Chatsworth. The Rev. Paul Darveau will officiate.
Burial will be in Chatsworth cemetery.
Memorials may be made to his family or to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Chatsworth, where he was a member.
Mr. Shoemaker died Wednesday (Sept. 27, 2000) at Iroquois Memorial Hospital, Watseka.
He was born Dec. 3, 1916, in New Liberty, the son of Council Bastic and Nora Lee Portwood Shoemaker.
His first wife, the former Ruth Cleone Myers, whom he married July 3, 1938, in South Fulton, Tenn., is deceased.
His second wife, the former Hanna Fendrick, is deceased.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Kay Shoemaker of Piper City; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Charles Martin of Chatsworth; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
One son, James; three stepsisters and one stepbrother, are deceased.
Mr. Shoemaker had owned and operated Shoemaker Saw Sharpening in Chatsworth. He had been a railroad worker.
He was a member of the Conservation Corps, the Masonic Lodge of Chatsworth and the Chatsworth Sportsmans Club.
He was a board member of the Chatsworth cemetery
He enjoyed deer hunting.

Irving Cloutier
Irving C. Cloutier, 80, of Kankakee, died Wednesday (Sept. 27, 2000) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Arrangements are by the Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel.
He was born Feb. 25, 1920, in Kankakee, the son of Victor and Cora Carrigan Cloutier.
His wife, the former Betty Lampley, whom he married June 10, 1946, in Kankakee, is deceased.
Surviving are one son, Ricky Stewart of Henderson, Ky.; one daughter and two sons-in-law, Kandy and Bob Martin of Union Hill, Sonny Hutson of Bonfield; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
One daughter, Audrey Hutson and six brothers, are deceased.
Mr. Cloutier retired from Roper after 31 years of service.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II.
He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the VFW, DAV and Purple Heart Association.

Pearl Glad
PAXTON - Pearl F. Glad, 89, of Paxton, died Wednesday (Sept. 27, 2000) at Heartland Healthcare Center, Paxton.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the Knapp-Miller Funeral Home, Paxton, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. John Davenport will officiate.
Burial will be in Glen cemetery, Paxton.
Memorials may be made to the Church of Christ, Paxton.
She was born Oct. 31, 1910, in Hoopeston, the daughter of Frank and Ella Schindler Whitman.
Her husband, August Edward Glad, whom she married Feb. 22, 1936, in Kankakee, died March 7, 1983.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Linda Glad, John and Chandra Glad, all of Paxton; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Three brothers and two sisters are deceased.

Lorene Gustin
SUN CITY, Ariz. - Lorene L. Gustin, 90, of Sun City, Ariz., and formerly of Bradley, died Tuesday (Sept. 26, 2000) in Sun City.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Clement's Church, Sun City.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
She was born Sept. 10, 1910, in Limestone Township, the daughter of Harry and Mary Bertrand.
Surviving are her husband of 70 years, Joseph Gustin, of Sun City; two daughters and sons-in- law, Jackie and Gene Adame of Bradley, Joann and Jerry Swinford of Sun City West, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Kathy Dorris and Kevin Adame, both of Bourbonnais, Michelle Mattlin of Tuscola, Michael Swinford of Chicago; and seven great-grandchildren.
Four brothers, Vernon, Leon, Lyle and Francis Bertrand; and one sister, Mable Frisch Sayers, are deceased.
She was a resident of Bradley for many years and retired to Sun City, Ariz.
Mrs. Gustin had worked in sales at Sears Roebuck Co.
She enjoyed playing cards, bowling, golfing, square dancing and crafts.

Esther Swartz
SOUTH WILMINGTON - Esther Swartz, 88, of South Wilmington, died Thursday (Sept. 28, 2000) at the Morris Lincoln Nursing Home.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes Ltd., South Wilmington Chapel.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in South Wilmington.
Burial will be in Braceville-Gardner cemetery in Braceville.
Memorials may be made to United Methodist Church in South Wilmington, where she was a member.
She was born May 19, 1912, in South Wilmington, the daughter of Robert and Anne Tyler Granger.
Surviving are one brother, Thomas Granger of South Wilmington; and many nieces and nephews.
Six brothers, Harold, William, Elmer, John, Robert and Donald Granger; and five sisters, Jennie Gaddo, Lucille Case, Hettie Stevenson, Leora Johnson and Loretta Shugart, are deceased.

Dr. Adam Dunlap
WATSEKA - Visitation for Dr. Adam L. Dunlap, 76, of Watseka, will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. Masonic service and from noon Friday until the 1 p.m. services at the Baier Funeral Home, Watseka. Rev. Joseph Scheets will officiate.
Burial, with military services by the Watseka American Legion and VFW members, will be in Iroquois Memorial Park cemetery, Watseka.
Memorials may be made to the Illinois Masonic Home, Sullivan; Iroquois Memorial Hospice or to the donor's choice.
Dr. Dunlap died Sunday (Nov. 5, 2000) at the Iroquois Resident Home, Watseka.
He was born Dec. 23, 1923, in Seymour, the son of Adam L. Sr. and Harriett Mae Niblack Dunlap. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are his wife, the former Gladys Dennison, whom he married Dec. 24, 1947, in Sidney; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald E. and Lisa Dunlap of Tolono; one daughter and son-in- law, Janien and Daniel L. Yates of Watseka; three grandchildren, Amy Leigh (Yates) and Jon Norder of Sheldon, Jeremy D. USAF and Andrea Yates of Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas, Nev., Kendall Marie Dunlap of Tolono; and four great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Zachary and Austin Yates of Las Vegas, Nev., Katelyn Norder of Sheldon.
One brother is deceased.
He attended elementary and high school in Seymour. He was a 1941 graduate of Champaign Senior High School. He was a 1950 graduate of Lincoln Chiropractic College, Indianapolis, Ind. He was licensed to practice chiropractic in Illinois and Missouri and authorized by the Illinois Department R&E to administer acupuncture.
Dr. Dunlap entered military service Jan. 19, 1943. He received special training in Army Ordnance at Ft. Crook, near Omaha, Neb. He served in Iceland under the Iceland Base Command at posts near Reykjavik and Keflevik Air Base. He was honorably discharged from service in December 1945 as a Staff Sergeant (T-3).
He was a member of Watseka First United Methodist Church, Watseka American Legion Post 23, and the Watseka Masonic Lodge 446 AF&AM, serving as master in 1972 and again in 1994. He was appointed a district deputy grand master in 1978 and served in that capacity under three grand masters. He was appointed to oversee design of remodeling the present lodge facility at Watseka.
Dr. Dunlap was a member of the Valley of Danville, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite. He was appointed to Walter A. Stevens Council and served as sovereign prince; appointed a Consistory line officer and served terms as master of ceremonies, chancellor and orator; appointed for one term as executive secretary, Valley of Danville; and was past master, Centennial Lodge 747, Champaign.
He was a member of the Illinois Chiropractic Society; served as president, Central District of ICS in 1964; chairman of Board of Directors ICS, 1968-69, president-elect ICS, 1970-71; elected president two consecutive terms, 1972-73 and 1973-74; served as Ethics Committee chairman of ICS; honored as ICS Chiropractor of the Year in 1974; received national recognition when admitted as a fellow, International College of Chiropractors in 1974; served as chairman, Board of Directors- ICS; a member of the President's Cabinet International, National College of Chiropractic, Lombard; and a charter member of the American Chiropractic Association.

Dr. Eugene Anderson,
longtime physician
Visitation for Dr. Eugene G. Anderson, 74, of Kankakee, will be from 9 a.m. Saturday until the 11 a.m. services at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais.
Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at All Saints cemetery, Bourbonnais. Rev. Richard Pighini will officiate.
Burial will be in All Saints cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Anderson Memorial Library at Riverside Medical Center.
Dr. Anderson died Wednesday (Nov. 1, 2000) at Riverside Medical Center.
Dr. Anderson was an area physician from 1966 until retiring in 1996.
Dr. Anderson had been on the staff at both Riverside Medical Center and Provena St. Mary's Hospital.
He was born Oct. 5, 1926, in Kankakee, the son of Gaylord E. and Constance Granger Anderson.
Surviving are his wife, the former Dr. Evelyn Carney, whom he married April 27, 1947, in New Orleans, La.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Commander Dr. Nils and Terri Anderson of Norfolk, Va., Ian and Kathy Anderson of Carmel; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Eve and Michael Hargrave of Urbana, Felicie Anderson of Springfield, Holly and Dirck Stahl of Evansville, Ind.; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Polly and William Shafer of River Forest, Patricia Barnhill of Kankakee, Gretchen Anderson of Chicago; five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
One sister, Kristen Anderson, is deceased.
He was a graduate of St. Patrick Grade School and High School, and the University of Chicago Undergraduate and Medical School.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps serving during World War II.
He was a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Internal Medicine, the Illinois Society of Internal Medicine, the American Medical Association, the Illinois Medical Society and the Emily Dickinson Society.
He was a member of the Kankakee Country Club and Psi Upsilon Fraternity at the University of Chicago.
