Joseph Gall

A funeral Mass for Joseph A. Gall, 81, of Kankakee, was celebrated July 9 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Rev. Charles Wheeler officiated.
Mr. Gall died July 5, 2002.
Cremation rites were accorded by the County Line Crematory, Chebanse Inurnment was in Limestone cemetery. Pallbearers were Brock, Joe III, Mark Jr. and Chris Gall, Jason Martin and Lisa Mason.

Stephen Morrical

WATSEKA -- A funeral Mass for Stephen S. Morrical, 27, of Watseka, was celebrated July 9 at St. Edmund's Catholic Church, Watseka. Rev. Lee Ryan officiated.
Mr. Morrical died July 5, 2002.
Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery, Watseka. Pallbearers were Jake Quick, Ed Bowser, David Wertz, Jason Morrical, Josh Huff, Nathan Farris, Ryan Wertz and Michael Steele Rohman. Honorary pallbearers were Rachel Farris and Stella Barrera.

Clarence Voigt

BONFIELD -- Services for Clarence R. Voigt, 88, of Bonfield, were held July 9 at the Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel, Kankakee. Rev. Steven Friese officiated.
Mr. Voigt died July 6, 2002.
Burial was in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery. Pallbearers were Randy Riegel, Matthew Bell, Norman Matthias, Victor Conway, Michael Geneary, Steve Bell and Bob Goodberlet.

Grant Yohnka

CHEBANSE -- Services for Spec. Grant A. Yohnka, 21, of Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., formerly of Chebanse, were held July 9 at the United Church of Christ, Chebanse. Rev. Dennis Brayman officiated.
Spec. Yohnka died July 3, 2002.
Burial was in Evergreen cemetery, Chebanse. Pallbearers were members of Co. A, Fifth Army Engineers from Ft. Leonard Wood. Honorary pallbearers were Dave Leszczynski, K.C. Tatom, Doug Williams, J.T. Yohnka, Greg Franklin, Jeb Yohnka, Emerson Rushing and Trevor Donarski.

Oscar Strode

Services for Oscar H. Strode, 94, of Bourbonnais, were held July 8 at the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes. Rev. Martin Guetzmer officiated.
Mr. Strode died July 4, 2002.
Burial was in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery. Pallbearers were Scott, Mike and Chris Wakeley, Steven and Roger Strode Jr., and David Dillman.

Carl Hurst,
co-owned antique shop

WILMINGTON -- Visitation for Carl Thomas Hurst, 89, of Wilmington, will be from 4-6 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church in Wilmington, where services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery in Wilmington.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church.
Freitag Funeral Home, Wilmington, is in charge of arrangements.
He died Friday (July 5, 2002) at Riverside Medical Center.
Mr. Hurst retired from the maintenance department of Uniroyal (Arsenal), and was a former co-owner of the Wayside Antique Shop in Wilmington.
Mr. Hurst was born April 18, 1913 in Bremen, Ga., the son of Carl Bryce and Lena Virginia Ogeletree Hurst.
His wife, the former Earline Sanders, died in 1996.
Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, C. Bryce Hurst of Joliet, Gordon and Mary Hurst of Evansville, Ind.; three grandchildren; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Martha and Robert Carr, and Louise Macon.

Daisy Schoon,
Ameritech dispatcher

Daisy Ann Schoon, 59, of Bourbonnais, died Sunday (July 7, 2002) at her home.
There will be no services.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Arrangements are by the Bourbonnais Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes.
Mrs. Schoon retired from Ameritech in 1992, after 31 years as a dispatcher.
She was born Oct. 18, 1942 in Kankakee, the daughter of Paul Francis and Della Mae Smith Lowey. Her parents are deceased.
Surviving are her husband, Sebold Richard Schoon, whom she married Feb. 6, 1996 in Las Vegas, of Bourbonnais; one daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Jon Adams of Elgin; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, John and Judy Lowey of Mattoon, Jerry and Judy Lowey of Bradley, Albert Lowey of Manteno, and Robert and Sandra Lowey of Tucson, Ariz.; and one grandchild.
One brother, Owen Lowey; and one sister, Frances Cotton, are deceased.
She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Kankakee.
She graduated from Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School, and enjoyed fishing, bird watching and loved to cook.

Dorene Witthoft

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS -- Dorene Witthoft, 90, of Arlington Heights, formerly of Kankakee, died Saturday (July 6, 2002) at Alexian Brothers Hospital in Elk Grove.
Visitation will be held from 3-8 p.m. today at The Lutheran Home, 800 W. Oakton in Arlington Heights, with services at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mound Grove Gardens cemetery, Kankakee.
Arrangements are by G.L. Hills Funeral Home in Arlington Heights.
Mrs. Witthoft was born Aug. 6, 1912 in Emmetsburg, Iowa.
Her husband, Clarence Witthoft, whom she married Oct. 6, 1934, is deceased.
Surviving are four daughters and sons-in-law, Josephine and Nick Shaw of Glendale Heights, Geraldine and Gencie Himes Witthoft of West Barstable, Mass., Jacquelyn and Art King of Carbondale, Pamela and Albert Bertolani of Lombard; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one aunt; and two sisters, Erna Winslow, and Mildred Sterling.
Two brothers, Milton Schuler and Herbert Schuler; one sister-in-law, Marvel Schuler; and two brothers-in-law, William Winslow and Wilson Sterling, are deceased.
Mrs. Witthoft was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and the Ladies Aid Society for 50 years.
She was a member of the Salvation Army Senior Citizens Choir, and enjoyed crafting.

Gene Brummitt

CHICAGO -- Gene K. Brummitt, 62, of Chicago, died Sunday (July 7, 2002) at Cook County Hospital following a long illness.
Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Wednesday at Alvarez Funeral Home, 2500 N. Cicero in Chicago.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
Mr. Brummitt was born April 8, 1940 in Chicago.
Surviving are two daughters, Natalie Brummitt of Grant Park, Sandy Brummitt of Des Plaines; two brothers, Leroy and Albert Brummitt, both of Chicago; and three sisters, Janette, Viola and Geraldine, all of Chicago.
One daughter, Stacey Brummitt; two brothers, Chuck and James; and one sister, Cleo, are deceased.

Hazel Rogers

CARRIER MILLS -- Hazel Rogers, 64, of Carrier Mills, formerly of Kankakee, died Monday (July 8, 2002) at Western Baptist Hospital, Paducah, Ky.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home, Carrier Mills, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday. Rev. Joey Dunning will officiate.
Burial will be in Salem cemetery, Carrier Mills.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
She was born Jan. 17, 1938, in Kankakee, the daughter of Ray and Hazel Edith Price Wells. Her father is deceased.
Surviving are her husband, David L. Rogers, whom she married Dec. 1, 1957; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Brian Rogers of Salmon, Idaho, Mark and Cheryl Rogers of Bourbonnais, Keith and Lucinda Rogers of Eldorado; one daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Brian Jazweicki of Lakewood, Wis.; her mother, Hazel Edith Wells Arseneau of Bradley; two brothers, Earl Wells and Jerry Wells, both of Kankakee; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Rogers worked in the Time Study Division of the St. Croix Fishing Rod Factory in Wisconsin.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Carrier Mills.

Joan Rietveld

MANTENO -- Joan Rietveld, 62, of Manteno, formerly of South Holland, died Friday (July 5, 2002).
Burial of cremains was private.
Surviving are her husband, Ted Rietveld; one son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Kathie Rietveld of Lansing; three grandchildren; her mother, Carrie Adams of South Holland; one sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Charlie Blair of Dyer, Ind.; three sisters-in-law, June and Pete DeYoung of Edgar, Wis., Marilyn and John Blackford of Thornton, Ruth and Nelson Van Deursen of Manitowish Waters, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.

John Wood,
25-year Armour employee

John Wood, 75, of Kankakee, died Thursday (July 4, 2002) at his home.
Private cremation services were held.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley.
He retired from Armour Pharmaceutical in 1989 after 25 years.
Mr. Wood was born June 17, 1927 in Williamsport, Ind., the son of William and Carrie Works Wood.
His wife of 47 years, Lorraine Wood, is deceased.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Renee Wood of Limestone; one daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Herry Harsha of Kankakee; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
One grandson, Carl W. Boyd; four brothers; and two sisters, are deceased.
Mr. Wood was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy from 1943-1947 onboard a mine sweeper.
He was a member of the Kankakee VFW, and enjoyed fishing, woodworking and traveling in his motorhome.
