Archie Locklear

COAL CITY -- Archie Locklear, 67, of Coal City, died Thursday (July 4, 2002) at Morris Hospital.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Saturday until the 4 p.m. services at the Reeves Funeral Home in Coal City.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
He was born Oct. 10, 1935, in Frankfort, Ohio, the son of Jessie and Gladys Jones Locklear. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law, Rhonda and Paul Plumb of Westmont, Renee Lieberstein of Plainfield; three grandchildren, Heather, Mitchell and Marissa; two sisters; one brother; and several nieces and nephews.
One sister and one brother are deceased.
He was raised and educated in Ohio, moving to Illinois in the 1950's. He had lived in Coal City for the past 20 years.
Mr. Locklear was employed as a serviceman on manufactured homes.

Atwood Smith
35-year UARCO pressman

SHELDON -- Atwood Smith, 67, of Sheldon, died Wednesday (July 3, 2002) at his home.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home, Watseka.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home, Watseka. Revs. Gary Milton and James Childress will officiate.
Burial will be in the Sheldon cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Iroquois Memorial Hospice, the Sheldon Fire Department, Lutheran Brotherhood or to the donor's choice.
Mr. Smith was employed at UARCO as a pressman for 35 years.
He was a member of the Raub Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Sheldon Fire Department. He was currently serving as village trustee for Sheldon.
He was born Oct. 7, 1934, in Corydon, Ind., the son of Norman and Edna Montgomery Smith. His father is deceased.
His first wife, the former Janice L. Bussert, whom he married April 10, 1955, in Sheldon, died Sept. 19, 1982.
Surviving are his wife, the former Charlotte K. Davis, whom he married Nov. 19, 1983, in Raub, Ind., of Sheldon; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Tim Hoover, Jane and Darroll Conley, all of Sheldon; two stepsons, Matthew Davis of Stone Bluff, Ind., Todd Davis of Fowler, Ind.; his mother, Edna Mae Smith of Sheldon; five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Bettie Jo Obenland of Sheldon, Barbara and Gordon Childress of Earl Park, Ind., Judy and John Taylor of Brook, Ind., Connie and Steve Plumier of Valparaiso, Ind., Jackie and Leland Shrimplin of Sheldon; one brother and sister-in-law, Don and Linda Smith of Shorterville, Ala.; and seven grandchildren.
One sister, Janet Childress, is deceased.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He enjoyed woodworking, camping and fishing.

Calvin Bennington

DWIGHT -- Calvin Seth Bennington, 77, of Dwight, died Wednesday (July 3, 2002) at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the Hager Memorial Home, Dwight, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. Rev. Brian Wood will officiate.
Burial will be in Round Grove cemetery, Campus.
Memorials may be made to the Dwight Historical Society, the Prairie Creek Home or to the American Indian Mission Work.
Mr. Bennington had been a farmer. He was the top seed corn salesman for DeKalb Seed Corn in its biggest region.
He was born Sept. 8, 1924, in Boscobel, Wis., the son of Caleb Sampson and Alma Christensen Bennington.
Surviving are his wife, the former Marietta Fitzpatrick, whom he married Sept. 11, 1948, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dwight; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Kathy Thomas of Huron, Ohio, Barbara and David Barr of Richton Park, Janice and John Jenkins of Wax Haw, N.C.; three sons, Mike Bennington of Dwight, Joe Bennington of California, Brian Bennington of Dwight; one sister, Violet Jacobsgaard of Dwight; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
One brother, Frank Bennington; and one sister, Gladys Bennington; are deceased.
He was a graduate of Dwight High School.
He was a member of New Life Assembly of God Church, Dwight and the Farm Bureau.
He enjoyed woodcarving and enjoyed reading and writing stories.

Earle Frame

EARLVILLE -- Visitation for Earle E. Frame, 81, of Earlville, father of a Manteno resident, will be 4-8 p.m. today, with an 8 p.m. rosary service at the Hanley-Turner Funeral Home, Earlville.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Earlville, where he was a member. Rev. Robert Spilman will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Theresa Catholic cemetery, Earlville.
Mr. Frame died Wednesday (July 3, 2002) at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Mendota.
He and his wife owned and operated the local newspaper the "Earlville Leader" from December 1947 until retiring in 1995.
He formerly was an Earl Township clerk, Earlville city clerk and served on the Earlville School Board and the St. Theresa cemetery Board.
Mr. Frame was born Oct. 7, 1920, in Neodesha, Kan., the son of John E. and Esther L. Peterson Frame.
His wife, the former Cathryne R. Norton, whom he married Feb. 14, 1942, at St. Theresa Catholic Church Rectory, Earlville, died March 28, 2001.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Ralph Elliott of Freeport; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Anne Frame of Morrison, Charles and Kim Frame of Manteno; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Marjorie Frame of Salina, Kan.; one sister, Dorothy Woods of Liberal, Kan.; three brothers-in-law; five sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
One brother, Donald Frame; two sisters, Lois Newport and Lucille Pennebaker; four brothers-in-law; and two sisters-in-law, are deceased.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II in the European campaign.
He was a charter member of the Earlville Lions Club, past commander of the American Legion.

Frances Nolan

DAVENPORT, Iowa -- Frances E. "Fran" Nolan, 76, of Davenport, Iowa, formerly of Kankakee, died Wednesday (July 3, 2002) at Genesis East Medical Center, after an extended illness.
Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. today, with a 6 p.m. prayer service at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Davenport, where she was a member.
Burial will be in Mt. Calvary cemetery, Davenport.
Memorials may be made to Assumption High School, Holy Family Catholic School or to the Visiting Nurses Association.
Mrs. Nolan was born June 26, 1926, in Pontiac, the daughter of Lawrence and Marguerite Bradshaw Ready. Her mother died shortly after her birth. Her uncle and aunt, Thomas and Mary (Mame) Cassady, raised her in Kankakee.
Surviving are her husband, John E. Nolan, whom she married Sept. 23, 1950, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Kankakee; three sons and daughters-in-law, James R. and Sandy Nolan of Olathe, Kan., Richard T. and Lin Nolan of Annandale, N.J., David L. and Nancy Nolan of Alpharetta, Ga.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Rebecca and Michael Dana of Arlington Heights, Ill., Cynthia M. Nolan of Fairway, Kan.; nine grandchildren; one sister, Lois Hayes of Kankakee; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Connie Cassady of Palm Beach, Fla., Donald and Sally Cassady of East Lansing, Mich.
One brother, Linis Ready; and one sister, Margaret Tassie, are deceased.
Mrs. Nolan was a graduate of Loyola University, School of Nursing at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Chicago. She was a member of the United States Nurse Corps.
She had worked at Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Company as group brokerage manager in the Davenport Agency, where she received several commendations. She then spent 10 years as a sales associate for Von Maur.
She was past president of the Catholic Service Board, whose charity is the Kahl Home. The board also operates Cinderella's Cellar.
She was a former member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club, and She enjoyed playing bridge and golf.

Velma Burling

Services for Velma Burling, 75, of Bradley, were held July 3 at the Bradley Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes.
Mrs. Burling died June 30, 2002.
Burial was in Aroma Park cemetery. Pallbearers were Chris Lippold, Paul and David Swinford, David Burling, James Fatka and Larry Yarno.

Grant Yohnka

Spec. 4 Grant A. Yohnka, 21, of Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., formerly of Chebanse, died Wednesday (July 3, 2002) at the Lifecare Center in Waynesville, Mo., after a lengthy illness.
Arrangements are pending at the Knapp Funeral Home, Clifton.

Helen Simpson

WATSEKA -- Helen Mae Simpson, 88, of Watseka, formerly of Milford, died Wednesday (July 3, 2002) at the Iroquois Resident's Home, Watseka.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home, Watseka, and from 9 a.m. Saturday until the 10 a.m. services at the Milford Christian Church. Rev. Neil Larimore will officiate.
Burial will be in Floral Hill cemetery, Hoopeston.
Memorials may be made to the Milford Christian Church, where she was a member.
She was born Feb. 28, 1914, in Sheldon, the daughter of William and Emma Haxby Reynolds.
Her husband, Carl J. Simpson Sr., whom she married Jan. 1, 1938, in Sheldon, died March 25, 1979.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Carol and John Lavelle of Ft. Myers, Fla.; one son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Mary Simpson of Watseka; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Margaret and Durwood Trumble of Watseka, Mabel Miller of Hoopeston, Martha Murphy of Anderson, Ind., Dorothy and Robert Watt of Kentland, Ind.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Four brothers and one granddaughter are deceased.

James Grant

A memorial Mass for James F. Grant, 73, of Kankakee, will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church. Rev. Dennis Settles will officiate.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley.
Mr. Grant died Friday (May 31, 2002) at his home after an extended illness.

Johanna Westerhoff

WICHERT -- Visitation for Johanna Westerhoff, 88, of Wichert, will be from 10 a.m. Saturday until the 11 a.m. services at the First Reformed Church of Wichert. Rev. Gerald Norman will officiate.
Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery, Wichert.
Memorials may be made to Prison Fellowship-Bonnie and Walter Abbe or to the Moody Bible Institute.
Arrangements are by Clancy-Gernon-Houk Funeral Home, St. Anne.
Mrs. Westerhoff died Tuesday (July 2, 2002) at Miller Center, Kankakee.
She was born Sept. 27, 1913, in Wichert, the daughter of Arthur and Cornelia Koster Schaafsma.
Her husband, Lionel Westerhoff, whom she married Dec. 3, 1935, in Wichert, died Aug. 1, 1986.
Surviving are one son, David Westerhoff of Grand Rapids, Mich.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Karen and Stan James of St. Anne, Peggy and Jeff Lindsey of Nashville, Tenn., Paula Boone of Geneva; one sister, Ida Slingerland of Wichert; one brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Mona Schaafsma of St. Anne; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
One brother, Arthur Schaafsma; and one sister, Evelyn Hoekstra, are deceased.
She was a member of the First Reformed Church of Wichert and the Ladies Organization at the church.
She enjoyed baking and church activities.
