Francis Monnette

Visitation for Francis "Beecher" Monnette Sr., 90, of Manteno, will be from 4-8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. wake service at the Brown Funeral Home, Manteno.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Manteno. Rev. Edward Grotovsky will officiate.
Burial will be in Mt. Calvary cemetery, Kankakee.
Mr. Monnette died Saturday (June 29, 2002) at ManorCare Health Services, Kankakee.
He was born June 4, 1912, in Manteno, the son of Oliver and Clara Bourelle Monnette.
Surviving are his wife, the former Clara Kocinski, whom he married Aug. 10, 1935, of ManorCare Health Services; two sons, Francis Monnette Jr. of Manteno, Darrel Monnette and special friend, Joan Mason of Kankakee; two daughters and one son-in-law, Barbara and Joe Zagata of Oceanside, Calif., Mary Monnette of Las Vegas, Nev.; one sister, Elizabeth Woodrich of Zephyrhills, Fla.; one brother, Paul Monnette of Oregon; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Five brothers and three sisters are deceased.
Mr. Monnette had worked at Bennett's Industries, Euziers Grain Elevator, the Village of Manteno and David Bradley.
He was known all over Illinois and Indiana for selling tickets on a new car for Manteno American Legion annual homecoming.
He was a member of the Catholic church.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening and raising rabbits.

James Hirsch

JOLIET -- James A. "Jim" Hirsch, 70, of Joliet, and the father of a Coal City resident, died Monday (June 24, 2002) at Provena St., Joseph Medical Center, Joliet.
Services were held June 28 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Joliet, where he was a member.
Cremation rites were accorded.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
He was born in Joliet, the son of Alfred and Marie Hirsch. His father is deceased.
Surviving are his wife, Jean D. Hirsch, whom he married June 26, 1954, of Joliet; two daughters and sons-in-law, Terri and James Lang of Coal City, Linda and Ed Fitzgerald Stewart of Charlotte, N.C.; one son, Joe Hirsch of Shorewood; his mother of Joliet; eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Sister Jacqueline Hirsch of Boca Raton, Fla., Rita and James Kubalewski of Shorewood; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Linda Hirsch of Ballwin, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was a 1950 graduate of Joliet Catholic High School.
Mr. Hirsch retired from Sheffield Steel after more than 35 years of service. He was formerly employed by Powers-Thompson Construction Company for over 18 years.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 300 and the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 296.

Joyce Hobbs

ONARGA -- Joyce Hobbs, 74, of Onarga, died Friday (June 28, 2002) at the Gilman Nursing Pavilion.
Arrangements are pending at the Knapp Funeral Home, Onarga.

Mardell Erzinger

MORRIS -- Mardell M. Erzinger, 74, of Morris, formerly of Oak Park, and the sister of a Coal City resident, died Thursday (June 27, 2002) at the Grundy County Home.
Services were held June 30 at the U.C. Davis and Sons Funeral Home. Rev. Bob Wood officiated.
Burial was held July 1 in the Braceville-Gardner cemetery.
Mrs. Erzinger was employed as a waitress.
She was born Aug. 29, 1927, in Oswego, the daughter of Roy and Vera Switzenburg Joneson.
Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Les Erzinger of Morris, Steven and Mary Wright of Frankfort; two grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy Jr. and Ramona Joneson of Coal City, Emmett and Bonnie Joneson of Morris; and several nieces and nephews.
One sister, Charlotte Reader; and two brothers, Kenneth Joneson, who died in infancy, and Mervin Joneson, are deceased.

Ruby Cleary

DWIGHT -- Ruby E. Cleary, 88, of Dwight, died Thursday (June 27, 2002) at OSF St. James Medical Center, Pontiac.
There will be no visitation.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. July 9 at the Hager Memorial Home, Dwight.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
She was born Jan. 29, 1914, in Dwight, the daughter of Jakob and Karen Dusine Anderson Jensen.
Her husband, L.V. Cleary, whom she married in 1969 in Dwight, is deceased.
Surviving are two stepdaughters and step sons-in-law, Peg and Jim Watters of Dwight, Katie and Joe Hageman of Peoria; two nephews and one niece.
She was a member of the Catholic church.
Mrs. Cleary was retired. She had been an office worker in the lumber retail business.

Danial Huizenga

DANFORTH -- Services for Danial L. Huizenga, 36, of Danforth, were held June 27 at the Redenius Funeral Home, Gilman. Rev. Donald J. MacDonald III officiated.
Mr. Huizenga died June 23, 2002.
Inurnment was in St. Mary's cemetery, Gilman. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Gerard, Ronald Henrichs, Randy Rabe, Brian Seegmiller, Howard Smith and Mark Zachgo.

Margery Harford

PIPER CITY -- Services for Margery A. Harford, 87, of Piper City, were held June 29 at the Presbyterian Church in Piper City. Rev. Ora Baker officiated.
Mrs. Harford died June 25, 2002.
Burial was in Brenton cemetery, Piper City. Pallbearers were Bob Cotter, Errol Halverson, Doug Harford, Ben Johnson, Jeff Roach and Dennis Wahls.

Robert Thomas

Services for Robert G. Thomas, 79, of Kankakee, formerly of Evanston, were held June 29 at the Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel. Revs. Craig and Kathy Sweet officiated.
Mr. Thomas died June 25, 2002.
Burial was in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery. Pallbearers were John Howard, Geoffery Lukens, Carl Clausen and Christopher Lukens.
GILMAN -- A funeral Mass for Evelyn Elaine Schroeder, 80, of Watseka, formerly of Gilman, was celebrated July 1 at Immaculate Conception Church, Gilman. Rev. John Balluff officiated.
Mrs. Schroeder died June 27, 2002.
Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery, Gilman.

Anna Jackson

BRAIDWOOD -- Anna Jackson, 84, of Braidwood, died Saturday (June 29, 2002) at the Morris Lincoln Nursing Home.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Bohemian National cemetery, Braidwood. Rev. Steve Bondi will officiate.
Memorials may be made to the Braidwood Emergency Squad.
R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Braidwood Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born July 27, 1917, in Braidwood, the daughter of James and Julia Lavicka Kratochvil.
Her husband, Louis E. Jackson, whom she married June 27, 1936, in Morris, is deceased.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Louis and Brenda Jackson of Diamond; two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; one brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Irene Kratochvil of Coal City; one sister and brother-in-law, Julia and Frank Stasney of Braidwood; and nieces and nephews.
One brother, James Kratochvil; and three sisters, Pearl O'Keefe, Lillian Kilpatrick and Mayme Touvelle, are deceased.
She enjoyed gardening.

Donald Palmer

Donald T. Palmer, 78, of St. Anne, died Saturday (June 29, 2002) at his home. He had been a resident of the Kankakee area for over 50 years.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, with a 5 p.m. Christian Vigil Service and a 7:30 p.m. VFW service, at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais.
Rev. Anthony Taschetta, formerly of St. Teresa Catholic Church, will preside at a liturgy of Christian Resurrection which will be celebrated by his family and friends at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Teresa Catholic Church.
Entombment will be in Mt. Calvary Mausoleum.
Donations in the memory of Donald Palmer should be directed to the Parkinson's Support Group or to St. Teresa's Catholic Church.
He was born May 4, 1924, in Rawlings, Wyo., the son of Lester and Eleanor Pecchenino Palmer. His parents are deceased.
His wife, the former Norma Deboulle, whom he married Oct. 21, 1946, died Oct. 23, 2001.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Donna Jean and William Casino of Kankakee; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Mary Alma Palmer of Muscatine, Iowa, Rick and Cindy Palmer of Kankakee; nine grandchlidren and six great-grandchildren; one sister, Paula Pedersen of Oxnard, Calif.; three sisters-in-law, Mae and Norman Walker, Barb and Larry Meyers and Patty Ginther; and half-brother, Ron of Colorado.
His oldest son, Rev. Ronald Palmer, who died Feb. 26, 2002; and two sisters, Phyllis Gessner and Dolores Smith, are deceased.
He served in Europe with the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Palmer had worked at the Paris Cafe on the corner of Station and Schuyler Avenue. For many years he worked as a salesman for Grand Union and Arthur Fulmer. Yet he is best known as "Mr. P" to the many young men and women who worked at the Maple Street Dairy Queen. He and his wife operated the Dairy Queen for many years, retiring in 1988.
He was very active in the VFW Post 2857 for over 50 years, serving as Post Commander, Quarter Master and Club Manager. He held all district offices including District Commander of the 7th District of the VFW. He was a lifetime member of Cooties. He was on the planning committee for the Manteno Veterans Home and was instrumental in getting the clinic opened at the Veterans Home. He was involved with Veteran's Day at the Illinois State Fair, coordinating the Drum and Bugle Corps competition.
He was currently the chairman of the Executive Board of the Veterans Assistance Commission of Kankakee County, which he was instrumental in starting.
Don was a great, loyal husband, a wonderful father and a great supporter of his grandchildren's activities. He loved antiques, golfing and fishing.

E. Ferne Fuoss

THAWVILLE -- E. Ferne Kaeding Fuoss, 89, of Thawville, died Saturday (June 29, 2002) at the Prairieview Lutheran Home in Danforth.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Knapp Funeral Home, Onarga, and from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the 11 a.m. services at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Thawville, where she was a member. Rev. Erich Fickel will officiate.
Burial will be in Thawville cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Prairieview Lutheran Home; Iroquois Memorial Hospice; or to St. Peter Lutheran Church.
She was born July 24, 1912, in Onarga Township, the daughter of Lewis and Dora Shaw Diercouff.
Her first husband, Henry E. Kaeding, whom she married June 23, 1928, in Kankakee, died May 27, 1949.
Her second husband, Franklin E. Fuoss, whom she married Sept. 29, 1950, died Dec. 28, 1983.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Ron Best of Sarasota, Fla., Becky and Eric Warlow of Thawville; five sons and daughters-in-law, David and Peg Fuoss of Thawville, Mervyn and Marianna Kaeding of Piper City, Jon and Ruddieann Kaeding of Onarga, James and Kathy Kaeding of Port Washington, Wis., Dennis and Mary Kaeding of Onarga; one daughter-in-law, Betsy Kaeding of Thawville; 18 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
One sister, Myrtle Hayes Johnson; one son, Donald Kaeding; and two grandchildren, Deanna Kaeding and Richard Kaeding, are deceased.
Mrs. Fuoss had worked at Louis Melind in Onarga for several years and also cooked at several area restaurants.
She was a past member of the Thawville American Legion Auxiliary.
She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, painting, gardening and making candies.
