Margaret Hinkle
Margaret Hinkle, 76, of Zion died on Monday, August 9, 2004 at home following a long illness. Margaret was born November 5, 1927 in Mississippi and came to Zion in the early 1950's. She retired from Midwest Molding in Gurnee in 1978 and later retired from American Air Filter in Zion in 1990. She was also an avid seamstress and quilter.
Survivors include her children, Billie (Paul) Ohnemus of Zion, Larry (Tami) Hinkle of Zion and Tina (Marko) Mavec of Winthrop Harbor; seven grandchildren, Shannon Petree, Andrea Filip, Maxwell Mavec, Mitchell Mavec, Mickey Hinkle, Danielle Ruiz and James Hinkle; two great grandchildren, Christopher and Catlin Petree; two sisters,Yvonne (John) Hathcock of Amory, Mississippi and Wanda (Ed) Irby of Shannon, Mississippi; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, James Hinkle in 1971; a grandson, James Stanton in 1998; a son-in-law, Christopher Stanton; two sisters, Eva Copelin and Loyce Ramage; and her parents.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2004 at 10:30 AM at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion with Pastor Paul Gerardy of Memorial United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Visitation will be Friday, August 13th from 5 to 8 PM at the Congdon Funeral home. Memorial donations to STAR Hospice have been suggested. 847-746-1234.

John A. Malec
John A. Malec, 84, of Beach Park, Illinois passed away on Saturday, August 7, 2004 at Vista St. Therese Medical Center in Waukegan. John was born in Proctor, Minnesota on November 22, 1919 and married his late wife, Mary (nee Zernich) in November of 1946.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served 21 years during World War II and the Korean War. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer (ADC). After his retirement from the Navy, he worked for Bob & Doug Koss Amoco in Waukegan. John was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and was a 60 year member of the Waukegan Moose Lodge #706 where he was also Past President of NE Legion 169, and had The Pilgrim Degree. He was also a member of the Fleet Reserve of Great Lakes, IL.
John is survived by his daughter, Carol (John) Babnik of Beach Park; three grandchildren, John (Marielle) Babnik, Scott Babnik and Stacey (Chris) Clark; two great grandchildren, Madeline and John Babnik III; a sister, Betty (Gene) Backus of Edina, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary in 1993; as well as three brothers, Joe, Walt and Frank Malec.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 A< on Thursday, August 12, 2004 at the SALATA-GURNEE FUNERAL HOME, 4190 Old Grand Ave with Fr. Paul J. Cull officiating. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Libertyville.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 PM on Wednesday and from 9:30 AM until time of services Thursday.

Richard Morones
Richard Morones, 52, of Gurnee, passed away Monday, August 9, 2004. He was born January 5, 1952 in Japan.
Richard was a Soccer Coach and mentor for his son and the boys involved with the Greater Libertyville Soccer Association. He had a love and passion not only for Soccer, but for all sports activities.
Richard was the beloved husband of Sonia, loving father of Stefani and Alex, son of Phillip Morones and Kanko Lescher, dear brother of Mario (Paula) Morones, Mark (Kristi) Morones and Robert (Stephanie) Morones. He also will be remembered by his loving aunts, Dolores Morones, Catalina Garza and dear uncles, Charles Morones and Louis Morones, many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and Great Friends and neighbors. He will also be greatly missed by his co-workers at WW Grainger.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 13, 2004 10:00 AM at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 6401 Gages Lake Rd., Gurnee. Burial Ascension cemetery. Visitations are Thursday from 5:00-9:00 PM and Friday 8:30-9:30 AM at Marsh Funeral Home of Gurnee, 305 cemetery Rd.

Janet R. Thompson
Janet R. Thompson, 70, of Waukegan passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at Terrace North. She was born April 10, 1934 in Waukegan, IL. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and a member of the Women of St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
Survived by a sister, Beverly (Burt) Boers; a niece, Sally (David) Sorce; a nephew, Brian (Tiffany) Boers; an uncle, Orville Maki; and cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother, Bertha Thompson.
Funeral services will be held in the MARSH FUNERAL HOME, 305 cemetery Rd, Gurnee, IL Friday August 13, 2004 at 10 AM. Interment will be in Warren cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 10 AM to 11 AM Friday at Marsh Funeral Home of Gurnee.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 3350 N. Delany Rd., Waukegan, IL, 60087.

Gerald L. "Jerry" Dixon
Gerald L. "Jerry" Dixon, 64, of Lake Bluff, IL, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2003 at the VA Medical Center in North Chicago. He was born February 12, 1939 in Vincennes, IN, where he was a 1947 graduate of Lincoln High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served as an MP and was a member of the American Legion Post #109 in Vail, AZ. Jerry was a former manager at several F.W. Woolworth and Ben Franklin variety stores and had been employed at the Silo Restaurant in Lake Bluff for the past 15 years. He was also a member of the Knollwood Sportsman's Club in Lake Bluff.
Surviving are his sisters, Shirley (Ronald) Morningstar of Ypsilanti, MI, Reba (William) Hall of Cambridge, OH and Mary Jo (John) Tussey of St. Francisville, IL; his nieces, Julayne Hughes, Brenda Morningstar, Gail Kruger, Robin Gable, Lori Stoudt and Cheryl Winkles; his nephews, Gary, Kevin and Philip Hall and Jeffrey Tussey, and 17 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Alma Dixon.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, August 9 at the Sportsman's Club in Lake Bluff. Visitation will be held at the club for one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jerry's memory may be made to the Knollwood Sportsman's Club, 17 Arcadia Road, Lake Bluff, IL 60044. Viola E. Fuller
Viola E. Fuller (nee Kuhagen), 93, of Gurnee, died on Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at Victory Memorial Hospital, with her family at her side.
She was born February 6, 1910 in South Milwaukee, WI., and lived in the Gurnee area since 1952. She was a member of Jehovah's Witness Church.
Viola is survived by her three sons and three daughters, Dallas (Marilyn) Neuschaefer of Elyra, Ohio, Murtiss (Herbert) Rubin of Howey-in-the-Hills, FL., Lodeene (Bill) Downie of Wadsworth, Tilford (Renee) Neuschaefer of Gurnee, Veral (Toni) Neuschaufer of Orlando, FL, Delaine (Roger) Powers of Gurnee; 11 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Gertrude Nupola of Milwaukee, WI; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Charles Neuschaefer and Morris "Willie" Fuller in 1994; three brothers, Robert and Gilbert Kuhagen and Edward Breitzke; sister, Lorraine Klockow; and one grandson, Damar Lauritsen.
Friends may call Thursday, August 7, 2003 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. with Jehovah's Witness Service at 7:30 p.m. at the SALATA/GURNEE FUNERAL HOME, 4190 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee. Interment will br private.

Sandra L. Huffman
Sandra L. Huffman, 43, a resident of Bristol, died Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at Aurora Medical Center.
She was born in Chicago, IL on September 23, 1959 to the late Bernard J. Davidson and Carole L. Dargas. She was educated in Zion, IL and was employed as a waitress most of her life. Sandra relocated to Round Lake, IL and then to the Bristol area in 1999.
She is survived by her mother, Carole and step father, Henry Oversen of Bristol, WI; a son, Ryan Huffman; a daughter, Meredith Huffman both of Antioch, IL; a granddaughter, Layla Rene of Manitowoc, WI; five brothers, Gary (Debbie) Davidson of Gurnee, IL, Wayne (Dianna) Davidson of Bridgeview, IL, Keith Leben of Bristol, WI, Kevin Leben of North Chicago, IL and Jimy (Chelle) Oversen of Beach Park, IL; two sisters, Mrs. Christine (Joe) Kanable of Lindenhurst, IL and Mrs. Kim (Jason) Schnider of Antioch, IL; her maternal grandmother, Elaine Mabry of Chicago, IL; eight nieces; and ten nephews.
In addition to her father, her paternal grandparents and her maternal grandfather preceded Sandra in death.
A memorial Service for Sandra L. Huffman will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2003 at 2 PM at St. Scholastica Catholic Church, 18700-116th St., Bristol, WI. Friends may meet the family at the time of the Service.

Margaret Marie McBride
Margaret Marie McBride went home to be with Our Lord and Saviour on Tuesday, August 31, 2003 at Terrace Nursing Home in Waukegan, IL. She was born August 31, 1926 in Brookhaven, Mississippi, to Rosanna Roberts and R.T. Smith.
A true heroine of the great depression of the 1930's and an important part of the Great Northern Migration. A devoted housewife of over 50 years to her husband John McBride, whom she leaves to cherish their memories together. She was an active member in the community, a very charitable contributor, and the true example of perseverance and strength. She attended Trinity A.M.E. Church where she was a member. She was a dedicated Christian and helped others whenever she could.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Rosanna Roberts-Day; her father, R.T. Smith, three children, Nancy, Philip and Melvin; a step brother, Albert Day; three aunts; and two uncles.
She leaves to cherish her memories four daughters, Annette Thomas-Moton; Sheila Draper, Mavis McBride and Tina Yeager; four sons, Frank McBride, Mark McBride, Marvin McBride and Preston McBride. She also leaves 19 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and a great great grandchild; as well as a host of cousins, friends and other relatives, all of whom will miss her dearly.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 11, 2003 at 11 AM at Shiloh Baptist Church, 800 S. Genesee St. Waukegan, IL with Rev. Francis residing and Min. Terry Atwater (North Shore Church of Christ), visiting. Visitation will be held Monday, August 11, 2003 at 10 AM at Shiloh Baptist Church until the time of services. Interment will be held at Mount Olive cemetery, Zion, IL shortly after funeral services. Repast will be held at Shiloh Baptist Church following interment.

James H. McCormick
James H. McCormick, 63, of Lindenhurst, IL, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2003, at St. Therese Medical Center, Waukegan, IL. He was born April 4, 1940 in Huntington, Arkansas, the son of the late Clarence and Viola (Copeland) McCormick, moving to Lindenhurst in 1963.
He served in the U.S. Air Force as an electronics instructor and after service worked as a civilian instructor at the Great Lakes Naval Base. Jim attended Lake Forest College where he graduated with a degree in physics. He worked at Abbott Laboratory as a training and education manager and for 26 years operated the BERMAC Graphics Corporation in Antioch. As a founding member of the Calvary Temple Christian Center in Lake Villa, he was the First Royal Ranger Leader and sponsor of the first Vacation Bible School. Jim was an avid bow hunter.
On July 16, 1960, he married Beryl C. Pierson in Denver, Colorado.
Survivors include his wife, Beryl; one son, James (Rhonda) McCormick of Union Grove, WI.; his mother, Viola Buxton of Bakersfield, CA.; four grandchildren, James, Kathleen, Kolin and Scott; one brother, Bob; and two sisters, Karen and Terry.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 11, 2003, at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME of ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (RT83). Interment will be in Millburn cemetery, Millburn, IL. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Sunday.

Gerald "Jerry" Thomas Pangburn
Gerald "Jerry" Thomas Pangburn, 49, of Waukegan passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2003 after fighting a fierce battle with cancer. Gerald was born November 2, 1953 in Flint, Michigan to Robert and Shirley Pangburn.
He lived all over the world as a child of military parents, but always dreamed of one day going back to California. Jerry was an avid NASCAR fan and attended many races. He also enjoyed cooking, camping and reading.
He is survived by three brothers, Willie (Maryann) of Sanibel Island, FL., Ed of Waukegan, IL. and David of Zion, IL.; his nephews, Aaron of CA., Nathan of Waukegan, IL. and David Jr. of Zion, IL.; his niece, Sarah (Brent) White of Janesville WI.; his grand-nephew, Jordan White; his grand-niece, Ava White; and his best friend, Ron Smith of Park City, IL. He will be missed by his beloved dogs, "Slayer" and "Tobis".
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Tommy.
Services were private. Please make donations to Star Hospice of Waukegan, IL.

John R. Schiller
John Rudolph Schiller, 54, of Marengo, IL., died Wednesday August 6, 2003 at his home. He was born on August 11, 1948 in Elmhurst, IL. to Rudolph and Margaret (Finkler) Schiller. On January 24, 1970, he married Cathy Huff in Woodstock, IL.
John worked at Sun Electric in Crystal Lake and later was transferred to Snap-On Diagnostics in Elkhorn, WI., where he was a manufacturing technician. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, socializing with friends and spending time on his computer, participating in fantasy football and NASCAR Leagues.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Cathy of Marengo; daughter, Angie (Barry) Deacon; two granddaughters, Megan and Rachel Deacon, all of Zion, IL.; his mother-in-law, Jean Huff of Woodstock; one brother-in-law, Roger Huff of Bradenton, FL. and Marilyn Leber of Johnsburg, IL.; two sister-in-laws, Mary Kay (Steve) VanAcker of Cary, IL. and Donna (Scot) Limbaugh of Scott Air Force Base; and seven nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Richard; his father-in-law, Earl Huff; and one brother-in-law, David Huff.
Visitation will be held from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, August 10, 2003 at the Marengo-Union Funeral Home, 505 E. Grant Hwy., Marengo, IL. 60152. Funeral Service on Monday will be private with Interment in Sacred Heart cemetery, Marengo.

James Merritte Spires Jr.
James Merritte Spires Jr., 54, born May 25, 1949 in Waukegan, IL. died suddenly on July 29, 2003 in Orlando, Florida. He was commissioned an officer in the U.S.M.C. on May 23, 1971 upon his graduation from Marquette University and retired as Lt. Col. on June 1, 1999. He earned an MBA from the University of Illinois and was a graduate of the FBI Academy. Lt. Spires served on the Champaign Police Department for 24 years and retired to Ft. Walton Beach, Florida in July 2000. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Marine Corps League, he organized SALT, the Senior and Law Enforcement Together Program in Champaign and was involved in a wide variety of other volunteer organizations.
preceded in death by his daughter, Beth Ann; brother, Wayne; and father, James Sr.
He is survived by his mother, Patricia; wife, Linda Kay; and children, Sean (TN), Katie (Capt. Dan Whittmer, England), Alison and Meghan (FL).
A Memorial Service will take place on Monday, August 11, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 128 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., Waukegan, IL, with a Visitation preceding at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Abraham Lincoln National cemetery, Joliet, IL. August 12, 2003.

Robert Stickles
Robert Stickles, 85, of Libertyville, IL passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2003 at the Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. He was born December 26, 1917 in Ingleside, IL and had been a Libertyville Resident for most of his life. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of 25 years, having served at many duty stations in the United States and also the Pacific Theatre during World War II attaining the rank of Captain. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Libertyville and the Great Lakes Officer's Assn. Following his naval retirement, Mr. Stickles was the controller for the Chicago Board of Education from 1965-79.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Stickles of Libertyville; his daughter, Virginia (William) Spring of Geneva, IL; three grandsons, William and Robert Spring of Chicago and Thomas Spring of Geneva; and his brother, John Stickles of Springfield, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Maude Stickles.
Funeral Services will be held at 5 PM Saturday, August 9, 2003 at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave (Rt. 176), Libertyville with the Rev. Ouk-Yean Kim Jueng officiating. Interment will be in Geneva.
Visitation will be from 3 PM until time of services on Saturday.
A Memorial service will be held at 1 PM Sunday, August 10, 2003 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 320 Franklin St, Geneva.

Mildred "Millie" Swentkofske (nee Kerpan)
Mildred "Millie" Swentkofske (nee Kerpan), 77, of Waukegan and formerly of Milwaukee, WI, died August 5, 2003 at St. Therese Hospital, Waukegan. She was born November 4, 1925 in North Chicago.
Mildred is survived by one son, Steven Swentkofske of Minneapolis, MN, two brothers: Joseph (Virginia) Kerpan of San Jacinto, CA and John (Dolores) Kerpan of Round Lake Park, IL, five sisters, Mary Kerpan and Katherine Chumbley of Gurnee, Lillian (John) Nagode of Park City, Frances Magri of Pennsylvania and JoAnn Williams of Des Plaines, IL.
She was preceded in death by two brothers; Peter and Ben Kerpan.
Services and interment are private. Arrangements were entrusted to the SALATA/GURNEE FUNERAL HOME.
