George W. Swanson
George W. Swanson, 79, of Ingleside, passed away Saturday night, July 17, 2004 at Midwestern Regional Medical Center in Zion.
He was born February 9, 1925 to Walter and Nellie (nee Williams) Swanson in Highland Park. George served as Sergeant for the United States Army, Company K, 414th Infantry, and earned the Silver Star for gallantry in action in World War II.
George was a member of the Gurnee American Legion, and a lifetime member of the V.F.W.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Dorothy (nee Mogg) Swanson; his children, Bill (Char) Swanson of Round Lake Beach and Carol (Cliff) Cook of Naples, FL; grandchildren, Jeff and Amy Tymm, Greg Tymm, Claudia and Dan Craig, Chris and Carl Cook; great grandchildren, Ashley and Laura Tymm, Austin Craig and Kaleb Cook; his sister, Eleanor Topel of Gurnee; sister-in-law, Joyce Swanson, also of Gurnee; and several nieces and nephews.
His parents and a brother, Howard Swanson preceded him in death.
Friends of the family may join them for the funeral service on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at STRANG FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, 410 E. BELVIDERE RD., GRAYSLAKE, IL 60030. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Libertyville. Memorial contributions may be made to Milburn Congregational United Church of Christ, 19073 W. Grass Lake Rd., Lake Villa, IL 60046.

Glen Watson
Glen Watson, 55, of Round Lake Beach died Monday, July 19, 2004. He was born July 7, 1949 in Chicago. On April 17, 1972, he married Terry Languth in Chicago. Formerly of West Liberty, Kentucky and Chicago, he was a resident of Round Lake Beach for 17 years. He worked for Signature Flooring & Design in Round Lake Beach for over five years. He and his wife then opened Integrity Flooring Installations in Round Lake Beach, which they owned and operated together.
He and Terry renewed their wedding vows on January 28, 2000 and July 11, 2004. He enjoyed taking trips to Las Vegas, where his favorite game was Texas Hold'Em. A devoted family man, his greatest joy in life was spending time with his children and his wife.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years; a daughter, Nichole Watson of Round Lake Beach; a son, Christian Watson of Round Lake Beach; a "second son", Jordan Feldman of Round Lake Beach; his aunt and uncle, Ruth and Aldo Mazzoni of Des Plaines; three cousins, Steve, Dan and Anthony; a nephew, Gerald Bowerman; four nieces, Laura Bowerman, Debbie (John) Lauderdale, Nancy Weisbruch and Marrianne Hoppe; many great nieces and nephews; great great nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Judy (Peter) Hoppe of Lindenhurst and Kimberly (Jack) Boucher of CA; and a brother-in-law, Steve Languth of IN.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, "Mamaw" and his grandfather, "Papaw".
Visitation will be from 2 until the 7 PM memorial service on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at JUSTEN'S ROUND LAKE FUNERAL HOME, 222 N. Rosedale Court, Round Lake, IL, 60073. Inurnment will be in the Watson Family cemetery, Kentucky. Memorials to the Watson Family Fund, C/O First State Bank of Round Lake would be greatly appreciated by the family. Info: 847-546-3300.

Pamela J. Amsler
Pamela J. Amsler, age 50, passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2004.
Beloved life partner of Arthur Steven Harris. She was a resident of Sugar Loaf, Florida and formerly lived in Mundelein, Illinois. Dear daughter of Mildred Amsler and the late Irvin Amsler. Cherished sister of Robert (Micki) Amsler, Janet (Norman) Van Aken, David (Monica) Amsler, Thomas (Vicki) Amsler, John, Meg (Matt) Beckley and James (Jennifer) Amsler. Favorite aunt of Christopher, Justin, Brian, Brooke, Joey, Marie, Erin, Tyler and Madison.
Memorial Service to be held on Saturday, July 24th, 2004, 10:30am at St. Patrick Church in Wadsworth.

Nancy A. Anderson
Nancy A. Anderson, 68, of Waukegan passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2004 at home. She was born August 5, 1935 in Waukegan and remained a lifelong resident. She was a member of the Swedish Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waukegan.
Nancy is survived by her mother, Ruth A. Anderson of Waukegan; children, Cindy Tippet of Racine, Scott Tippet of Land O'Lakes, WI and Vicki (Tab) Baker of Kenosha; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and her life long best friend, Barbara Swanson of Waukegan. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Carl Anderson.
Funeral Services will be 2 PM Thursday, July 22, 2004 at the PETERSON & PATCH FUNERAL HOME, 408 N. Sheridan Rd, Waukegan. Interment will be at North Shore Garden of Memories in North Chicago. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 PM to time of service.

Mary E. Annis
Mary E. Annis, 101, of Waukegan passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2004 at Terrace Nursing Home. She was born December 5, 1903 in Bloomington, IL and has been a resident of Waukegan since 1925. Mary retired as Chief Accountant at the Waukegan Post Office after 41 years of service. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Waukegan, a past member of Phi Sigma Society and a past member of Wesleyan Service Guild at Wesleyan Church. She was a member of A.A.R.P., N.A.R.F.E., Half Century Club of Illinois State University in Normal, IL and a honorary member of Br. 270 of National Association of Postal Supervisors.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold McElwan of Normal, IL and second husband, Howard J. Annis, a longtime teacher at the Waukegan Community High School; a brother, Harold Wheeler of Hudson, IL; and parents, Henry O. and Julia May (nee Whipp) Wheeler.
Services will be 11 AM Friday, July 23, 2004 at the PETERSON & PATCH FUNERAL HOME, 408 N. Sheridan Rd., Waukegan. Interment will be at Hudson Township cemetery in Hudson, IL. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 AM until the time of Service.

Fredric Merlin Awe
Fredric Merlin Awe, age 82, of Beach Park, Illinois, died July 19, 2004, at Terrace North Nursing Home in Zion, Illinois, after a brave fight against cancer. Fredric was born June 13, 1922 in Longwood, Wisconsin, to Frederick Martin and Gunda (nee Anderson) Awe.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and after being discharged, moved to Lake County where he worked in a variety of factory jobs before marrying Marion Beatrice Nelson on July 8, 1945 in Waukegan and building their home in Zion the next year. There Fred and Marion raised a family and had an enviable garden. In addition to working as a fuel oil truck driver and furnace repairman for Trojan Oil and Olson Oil companies for over 35 years, Fred was also seen on his Ford tractor, plowing and mowing throughout northeastern Lake County for many years, even well after his retirement. His special calling was to be the loving caretaker of his wife who was chronically ill for over 30 years. He loved his family and showed it in so many ways. His four grandsons were a special delight in his later years.
Fredric was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Marion, who died January 16, 1995. Also preceded him in death were his parents and two brothers, John Everett and Myron "Mike" Donald Awe.
He is survived by his four children, Carol Ann Awe of Waukegan, Earl Joe (Cindy) Awe of Sharon, Wisconsin, Rita Louise (Steve) Ponzo of Tucson, Arizona, and Joan Marie (C. Park) Seward of Irvine, California. He is also survived by his four grandsons, Stevens James and Michael David Ponzo, and Christopher Nelson and Scott LeBlanc Seward; sisters, Gertrude Kettner and Ilene (Chuck) Pribbernow of Owen, Wisconsin, and Mildred Peaslee of Melbourne, Florida; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Awe of Kenosha, Wisconsin, and Hildur Hart of Jacksonville, Florida; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and countless friends.
Funeral services for Fredric Awe will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 22, 2004 at MARSH FUNERAL HOME, 305 cemetery Rd., Gurnee, Illinois. Burial will be in the Northshore Garden of Memories. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 and Thursday, July 22 from 10 AM to 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to your favorite charity or to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America.

Cynthia Lou (Coffos) Chester
9-11-1953 to 7-14-2004
Cynthia L. (Coffos) Chester, age 50, of Indian Head, Maryland, was killed in a car accident on Wednesday, July 14, 2004.
Cynthia taught first grade in the Maryland School District. Cynthia was the beloved wife of Steven J, Chester of Youngstown, Ohio. Steve, a career Navy man, was stationed in Washington, D.C. Steve is the son of Tom and Shirley Jacobs of Youngstown, Ohio. He is a communications expert for the U.S. Navy.
Cynthia was born in Waukegan, Illinois, as were her parents, George William Coffos, Sr. and Jean (Fagan) Coffos. She attended McCall Grade School in Waukegan. Her father, George Coffos, was employed by the United States Government at the U.S. Navy Electronic Supply Office (ESO) in North Chicago. When the Navy closed ESO, George and his family transferred to Germany where Cynthia finished her preliminary education. After her stay in Germany, she moved to California where she graduated from Ventura College.
Cynthia was the mother of Stephanie Coffos, and the very proud grandmother of Justin Garman.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Gustav Coffos and Juanita Coffos of Waukegan; her maternal grandparents, James Robert Fagan, Sr. and Anna Maxine Fagan of North Chicago; a brother, Jeffrey Coffos; a brother-in-law, Scot Chester; a sister-in-law, Linda B. Chester; her aunt, Janet (Fagan) Cullum; her uncles, Hearl Casey, James Robert Fagan, and Glen Nordendale.
She is survived by her husband, Steven J. Chester; her parents, George and Jean (Fagan) Coffos of Tucson, Arizona; her father and mother-in-law, Shirley and Tom Jacobs of Youngstown, Ohio; her sister, Carla Jo (Sonny) Solich of California; her brother George William (Pam) Coffos of Zion, Illinois; her brother-in-law, Stuart (Janey) Chester; uncles, Charles Edward (Brenda) Fagan, and Edgar Cullum; aunts, Gerry Casey, Sally Fagan. JoAnn (Carl) Cepon; Judy (Ed) Fojtik, JoDell (Dale) Meyer, and Nikki Nordendale. Cynthia had many cousins that she loved, but Jill McKenzie of Waukegan, Tami Patton of Zion, and Teri Kozina of Winthrop Harbor, were more like sisters than cousins.
Cindi's brother George is employed by Great Lakes Credit Union in North Chicago, Illinois.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and teacher. She was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Cynthia found her true soul mate when she met and married Steve Chester. Their lives together were much too short, but we thank God she was so ecstatically happy with Steve in her life these past three years. Steve and his family, as well as Cynthia's family are grateful to have had Cynthia in our lives, we will greatly miss her.
Visitation for Cynthia will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, July 22, 2004 at the Salata Gurnee Funeral Home, 4190 Old Grand Avenue, Gurnee, Illinois. The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 23, 2004 at Salata's in Gurnee. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a trust fund for Justin Garman, in care of Great Lakes Credit Union, 2525 Greenbay Road, North Chicago, Illinois 60064.

John J. "Dan" Moran, Jr.
John J. "Dan" Moran, Jr, 68, of Skanee, MI, passed away Sunday, July 18, 2004 at the Hinsdale Hospital in Hinsdale, IL. He was born June 13, 1936 in Lake Forest, IL and had been a former 58-year resident of the Half Day and Prairie View area, retiring to MI in 1994.
Dan was a Veteran of the United States Air Force Reserve, a member of the American Legion Post in Wauconda and a former member of the Vernon Township Lions Club. He was also a former volunteer fireman with the Vernon Township Fire Department and a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Northbrook.
Surviving are his wife, Linda (nee Marcotte) Moran; two daughters, Debbie (Bob) McVay of Irwin, PA and Laura (Joe) Gannon of Beach Park; three grandchildren, Megan, Matt and Melissa; a sister, Barbara (Al) Schafer of Sun City West, AZ; and his mother-in-law, Anna Marcotte of Skanee, MI.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Alice Moran.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176) Libertyville. Funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 22 at St. Paul the Apostle Church, Gages Lake and Hunt Club Rds. in Gurnee. Interment will be in Skanee, MI.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District.

Dorothy Ann Parham

Dorothy Ann Parham was born January 1, 1937 in Memphis, Tennessee. She was born into Eternity on Monday, July 19, 2004.
She moved to Illinois in her early teens and was united in matrimony to Fredrick Parham Sr. on July 23, 1956 and to this union eight children were born. She was baptized and joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Zion, IL. She was a devoted and giving mother and grandmother; and her favorite time of the year was Christmas because it gave her the opportunity to bring her family together.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fredrick Parham Sr.; her parents, Willie and Cornelia Thomas; a sister, Jean Gunter; and a brother, Sidney Thomas.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Fredrick Parham Jr. of Kenosha, WI, Patricia Parham of Waukegan, IL, Jeanette Herron of Lithonia, GA, Kurtistine (Daryl) Stackhouse of North Chicago, IL, Steve (Kelley) Parham of Lithonia, GA, Pamela Parham of Waukegan, IL, Rickey Parham of Beach Park, IL and Oscar Parham of Joliet, IL; and a sister, Ineta Williams of Chicago, IL.She also leaves a special devoted friend, Bobby Pitts; and a friend, Margaret Gill; and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2500 30th St., Zion, IL on Friday, July 23, 2004. Visitation at 10 AM funeral service at 11 AM with Pastor B.J. Gaston officiating. Burial at Sunset Memorial Garden, Northbrook, IL. Arrangements entrusted to CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, Zion, IL. 847-746-1234.

Dennis Paul Shinks
Our cherished Dennis Paul Shinks, 67, of Waukegan, passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2004 at Victory Memorial Hospital.
Denny was born February 12, 1937 in Waukegan to the late Paul and Taimi Shinks.
He received his engineering degree from Illinois Institute of Technology and was a retired vice-president of Baxter and Woodman where he worked for over 40 years.
Denny was an avid golfer who started playing at the age of 12 and was most proud of his five hole-in-ones. He also loved fishing although he never caught very many. Denny enjoyed daily walked with his dog, Muffin. He was a Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. He will be most remembered for his love, generosity, glowing smile and chuckle.
He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Bettie (nee Daniel) Shinks; three step-children, Michael Koper, Catherine (Dean) Miscenic and Laura (Ralph) Strathmann; three step-grandchildren who he adored, Ryan and Matthew Miscenic (the little guys), and Camryn Strathmann (the little gal).
Denny is also survived by his loving sister, Mary Ellen Carrothers; nephews, Michael Carrothers, Patrick (Tracy) Carrothers; niece, Kelly Butcher; aunt, Agnes Vukovich and many cousins and dear friends including his pets, Muffin and Minnie.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at PETERSON & PATCH FUNERAL HOME, 408 N. Sheridan Rd., Waukegan. Interment will be at Northshore Garden of Memories in North Chicago. Friends may call the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 20, 2004.

Irma Thorn (nee Dulaney)
Irma Thorn (nee Dulaney), 95, a native of Fulton, MS, and a former resident of Zion, IL, passed away at Courtyards Community Living Center, Fulton, MS, on July 5, 2004.
Irma was a retiree of Abbott Laboratories, North Chicago, IL, retiring in 1970 with 19 years of service. Irma was born on September 9, 1908 in rural Fulton and married Homer Thorn in 1929. Together they raised five children and were married for 60 years, observing their 60th anniversary quietly in September before Homer's passing in October 1989.
Irma is survived by her children, Dolly Osbirn (Robert) Pearson of English, IN, Sue Conwill of Fulton, MS, Jo Ruth (Cecil) Works of St. Elmo, IL, John (Sharron) Thorn of Wadsworth, IL, Marty (Richard) Butler of Winthrop Harbor, IL; 13 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren; a sister, Abbie LaVee Adams of Russellville, AL; two sisters-in-law, Flossie Dulaney and Christine Dulaney, both of Fulton; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer; two sons-in-law, Murles Osbirn and Harold Conwill; two brothers, Loice Dulaney and Reece Dulaney; an identical twin sister, Birmah Robinson; two brothers-in-law, Bonny Adams and Earl Robinson; and her parents, Joe Abb and Vonia Dulaney.
Services were held on July 8 at Senter Funeral Home with interment at Hillcrest Masonic cemetery, both in Fulton, MS.

Anthony F. Vicek
Anthony F. Vicek, age 79 of Ballwin, Missouri past seven years, formerly of Ingleside for 39 years and Chicago died on July 16, 2004 at his home.
He served in the US Marine Corps. during WWII and was a retired postal worker from the Libertyville Post Office.
He was born in Chicago, Illinois May 5, 1925 to Anton & Mary (nee Basha) Vicich.
He was a member of the Chain O' Lakes Shriners and a lifetime member of the Westchester Masonic Lodge. He was a former volunteer for the Red Cross Disaster Services for fifteen years in the Chicagoland area.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte (nee Minarik) Vicek with whom he was united in marriage to on 4/9/1950 in Chicago and had celebrated their 54th anniversary this past April.
Also survived by his son, Jeffery Vicek of Champaign, Illinois; by his daughter, Valorie (Thomas) Ferlis of Ballwin, Missouri; by his grandchildren, William, Timothy, and Christopher Ferlis; his brother, William (Alma) Vicich of Summit, Illinois. Nieces, nephews and other relative survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Myra Pluth, Helen Wardzala and Stephanie Knafelc; by one brother, Edward Vicek.
Visitations will be held from 3-9PM on Thursday, July 22, 2004 at K.K. Hamsher Funeral Home, Ltd., 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd, Fox Lake (1 block west of Rte. 12, 1/2 block north of Grand) where Funeral Service will be conducted at 10AM on Friday, with Pastor Eugene Carter of the United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment following at Grant cemetery in Ingleside, Illinois.
Memorials for the Schriners Childrens Crippled Center, 2211 N. Oak Park Ave., Chicago, IL 60707 appreciated. Information: 847-587-2100.
