Joseph O. "Joe" Quall. Born to eternal life August 23, 2002. Age 81 years.
Beloved husband of Helen (nee Mortensen). Dear Father of Barbara (Robert) Leafblad and Thomas (Susan) Quall. Further survived by 4 grandsons, 2 great granddaughters, 1 brother John (Alice) Quall, other relatives and friends.

Robert Roteman
Robert Roteman, 70, of Waukegan, passed away at home in his sleep on August 21, 2002, after a long struggle with heart and kidney failure. He was born June 29, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York, and moved to this area after being stationed at Fort Sheridan, in the 204th Military Police Division, during the Korean Conflict. As a research and development chemist at Abbott Laboratories, he was proud to have helped to develop and patent many important drugs.
Formerly married to Marlene Roteman (nee Loisel), who has been caring for him during the last 2 years, he is survived by his three children, Andrew (Denise) Roteman of Goleta, CA, Laura (Ron) Roteman Walley of Waukegan, and David (Kathryn Jackson) Roteman of Salem, OR. Bob has five surviving grandchildren, Brian Walley and Elizabeth, Thomas, Patrick and Christopher Roteman, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister Francine (Elden) Weigel, his twin brother Donnie (Lydia) Roteman and his sister-in-law Joyce Roteman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Gertrude Roteman and just recently by his older brother Jerome. Bob will now join his best friend and golfing buddy, Bob Richards, Sr., where it never rains, golf scores always improve, and their tales get forever taller.
Visitation will be on Saturday, August 24, 2002 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF WAUKEGAN, 1521 Washington St. and from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, August 25, 2002. Funeral services will be at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Funeral Home. Burial will be private.

Phyllis A. Thorton
Phyllis A. Thorton, 55, of Gurnee, Illinois died Friday, August 23, 2002 at her home in Gurnee. She was born December 29, 1946 in Waukegan, Illinois and remained a life long resident of the area. She was a member of the Waukegan Moose Lodge #706 and the American Legion Ladies Auxillary of Gurnee.
She is survived by her husband Clifford and two children, Annette (Walt) Gorczowski of Lockport, IL and Edward Thorton of Gurnee. Three brothers, Roger (Irene) Savage of Waukegan, Gary Savage of Austin, TX and James (Shelley) Savage of Rockford, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Dorothy Savage.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2002 at the SALATA-GURNEE FUNERAL HOME, 4190 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee, IL. Burial will follow at Warren cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until time of services on Tuesday. Donations in Phyllis' memory may be made to Star Hospice.

Melody Underwood
Melody (nee Hoblit) Underwood age 37 passed away Thursday, August 22 at Burlington Memorial Hospital. Melody worked for many years at Coach's Sports Bar and Grill. Formerly of Third Lake, Melody was very fun loving and friendly to everyone.
She is survived by her mother Margaret Hoblit of Third Lake; daughters Beth Dubeau and April Underwood of Burlington, WI; granddaughter Alexis Stoen of Burlington; sister Grace (Mike) Palo of Third Lake; brother Tim Hoblit of Third Lake; nieces Dawn Hoblit and Lisa Palo; nephews Lance (Holly) Palo and Jason (Bobbie) Palo; great nephew Tyler Palo; and her best friend Dan Underwood. She was preceded in death by her father Melby Hoblit and a brother Dan Hoblit.
A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, August 26 at 10:00am at STRANG FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL 60030. Father Beaven will be officiating. Friends of the family may visit from 3:00 until 7:00pm on Sunday, August 25 at the funeral home. Interment will follow after the service at Highland Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the family.

Donna M. Edmonds
Donna M. Edmonds, 55, of Waukegan, passed away Sunday, September 29, 2002 at St. Therese Hospital. She was born February 24, 1947 in Duluth, MN.
Survivors include her husband Andrew; four children, Kim (Joel) Hunt of Winthrop Harbor, Barbara (Jimmy) Rodriguez of Waukegan, Laurie Edmonds of Libertyville, and Shelly (David) Dripps of Waukegan; six grandchildren, John Lininger, Michael Edmonds, Nichole Edmonds, Bryana Rodriguez, Tyler Edmonds, and Andrew Dripps; one sister Barbara (Art) Boss; one brother Robert Mehtala; her mother Marjorie Mehtala; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Jalmer Mehtala.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m Friday, October 4, 2002 at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF WAUKEGAN, 1521 Washington St. Burial will be private. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Myra (Dolly) Ferreri
Dolly Ferreri, 55 of Waukegan passed away on Friday, September 27, 2002 in her home after a battle with cancer.
She was a Waukegan resident most of her life. She will be missed very much by all who knew her.
Dolly was well known in the community as one of the best beauticians in the business.
Surviving are her three children, son Joseph Viverito, daughter Sandy (Javier) Flores, son Nicky Ferreri, grandchildren, Jesse Beskow, Natasha Beskow, Ricky Ferreri, Stacia Ferreri, several brothers, Rudy Smith, Hugh (Sharon) Smith, Scott Smith, and David Smith, three sisters, Peggy Neu, Judy Turner, and Pam (George) Breedlove.
preceded in death by parents Allan and Dorothy Smith, and brothers, Jerry Bradford, and Dennis Smith.
Services will be private.

James Mowers
James Mowers, 59, died September 20, 2002 at the Veterans Hospital in Milwaukee, WI. Born September 12, 1942 in Higland Park, IL. He worked at Johns Manville in Waukegan and also Lasko Manufacturing in Ft. Worth, TX before retiring to Round Lake Beach.
He is survived by one brother, Frank (Jerileve) of Ingleside; two sisters, Joann Kazele of Round Lake Beach and Jean (Byron) Callen of Ingleside; five nieces, Laura (Ken) Kerns of Lake Villa, Daria (Greg) Wicinski of McHenry, Stacy Perry of Round Lake Park, Marla (Ray) Holmes of Antioch and Tara (Steve) Mullins of Ingleside; two nephews, Joseph Callen of Denver and Brett Callen of Fox Lake; many great-nieces and nephews; three step-daughters, Deborah Julian of Texarkana, TX, Kim (Roland) Charier of Ingleside and Robin Panayotis of Daytona Beach.
preceded in death by his wife, Nell and his parents, Frank and Hazel Mowers.
Private services and interment at Warren cemetery, Gurnee, IL.

Karen Janssen
Karen Janssen, 49, of Beach Park died on Sunday, September 29, 2002 at her home following a 1 year battle with Melanoma Cancer.
Karen was born April 5, 1953 in Evanston, Illinois, grew up in Des Plaines and has lived in the Waukegan and Zion area since 1979. She professed her love of the Lord at an early age and was a member of Calvary Temple Assembly of God Church where she was an active leader with the youth group. She served as Director of Transportation for Zion-Benton Township High School and she belonged to the Christian Motorcycle Association.
She leaves behind her loving husband of 24 years Lambert "Bert" Janssen, her three children Jennifer of Zion and Matthew and Megan both of Beach Park and one grandchild, Hannah, all who were the number one priority in her life; and brothers and sisters Kenneth Michael (Katherine) Jacobs of Arlington Heights, Ronald Paul (Margaret) Jacobs of Jacksonville, Florida, Larry Douglas (Georgia) Jacobs of Port Charlotte, Florida, Vicki Hecht of Joliet, Tammy (Chuck) Goebel of St. Charles, Debra (Dwight) Verdin of Port Charlotte, Florida, Timothy (Carrie) Jacobs of Bollingbrook, Cindy (Terry) Craig of Boone, North Carolina, and Anthony Todd (Margaret) Jacobs of St. Charles, Illinois; one sister-in-law, Patty (Wife of Herbert) Jacobs of Round Lake, Illinois; and 28 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother Herbert Jacobs and by her parents Herbert and Valera Jacobs.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Christian Assembly of God Church, 2929 Bethel Blvd., Zion, with Pastor Robert Abbott of Calvary Temple of Waukegan officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion.

Mary Kelly
(Sahagian, McCaffrey)
Mary Kelly, 83, of Waukegan passed away on Friday September 27, 2002 at home, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born on February 17, 1919 and had been a lifelong resident of Waukegan. She grew up in the Kirk Park neighborhood and held many fond memories of the era. She was actively involved with two of the family's neighborhood businesses, The Tip Top Grill and Belvidere Foods. She was also employed by the Lake County Assessor's office and retired from ESO, Great Lakes. She had attended St. George Armenian Apostolic Church and Christ Episcopal Church.
Survivors include her loving husband, Herbert, her son, William (Dorothy) McCaffrey; grandchildren, Jaime (Christopher) Dustan and Joshua McCaffrey; great grandson, Evan Dustan; brother, Vern (Lillian) Sahagian; sister-in-law, Margaret Sahagian; and many dear nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Verkin Sahagian; brother, John Sahagian; and grandsons, Sean and Jason McCaffrey.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday October 2, 2002 at Christ Episcopal Church 410 Grand Ave. Waukegan with Rev. Albert Majkrzak officiating. Interment will be at Northshore Garden of Memories in North Chicago. Friends may call at PETERSON-PATCH FUNERAL HOME, 408 N. Sheridan Rd., Waukegan on Tuesday October 1, 2002 from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with wake services at 8:30 P.M. Memorials, in her memory may be given to Vista ELDERCARE 1324 N. Sheridan Rd Waukegan, IL 60085.

Joseph C. Knighton
Mr. Joseph C. Knighton, 85, a resident of Meadowmere Assisted Living Apartments, Kenosha, WI, died early Sunday morning, September 29, 2002, at Kenosha Medical Center.
Born September 24, 1917 in Morgan (Calhoun Co.), Georgia, he was the son of the late Joseph P. and Susie O. (Farrow) Knighton, Jr. Raised in Palatka, FL, he attended local schools and graduated Salutatorian for the Putnam High School Class of 1937.
He served in the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Mechanic from November 18, 1937 to November 25, 1957, retiring as a Petty Officer First Class. His duty stations included the USS Enterprise; U.S. Naval Air Stations in Jacksonville, FL and Kaneohe Bay, HI; Air Transport Squadron Twelve; USS Midway; VR-23; Atsugi, Japan; and Helicopter Training Group, Ellyson Field, Pensacola, FL. He was awarded the Navy Occupation Service Medal, National Defense Ribbon, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal with 4 Stars.
He married Madeline G. Jones on December 17, 1938 in Jonesboro, TN. She died April 8, 2001.
From 1949 until 1974 he resided in Jacksonville, FL; lived in Greeneville, TN for two years; then moved to Beach Park, IL in 1976. He has resided in Kenosha since December 2000.
He retired in 1984 as an equipment manager for the Illinois Department of Transportation. He had also worked at Stein's Service Station and Pick'n'Save in Jacksonville, FL, at T.R.W. in Greeneville, TN, and also in park maintenance at the Illinois Beach State Park in Zion, IL.
He was a member of the Teamster's Local 330, Elgin, IL; the Fleet Reserve Association; the Free & Accepted Masons; and was a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose. He was very active and a past president of the Adult Day Care Volunteer Committee at the V.A. Medical Center, North Chicago, IL. He was also a lifetime committee member and past precinct committeeman for the Illinois State Republican Party.
He was raised in the faith of the Church of Christ and was proud of his Seminole Native American ancestry. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and singing.
Surviving are a daughter, Judith M. (Theodore) Higgins of Pleasant Prairie; four sons: Joseph Ronald (Mary) Knighton of Knoxville, TN, James Allen (Carol) Knighton of Oakdale, CT, John Doyle Knighton of Pembroke Pines, FL, and Jeffrey Lynn (Debbie) Knighton of Gurnee, IL; 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
BRUCH FUNERAL HOME is in charge of local services.

Phyllis Lindstrom
Phyllis Lindstrom, 75, of Waukegan, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2002 at Condell Medical Center. She was born December 23, 1926 in North Chicago. She enjoyed gardening & working in her yard.
Survivors include her six children, David (Connie) Teser of Kenosha, WI, Robert (Lynn) Teser of Gurnee, Michael (Rose) Teser of Zion, Diane (Les Natzel) Baldino of Milwaukie, OR, Shirley (Bill Wagener of Lake Villa, Pauline (Greg Meyer) Teser of Salem, WI; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Cecilia Zaleck, Lottie Petersen, Alice Hart, Lucille Dutton, Joan Heraver, Rita Guerin. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Casper Teser and Bob Lindstrom; one brother, Frank Michalski; two sisters, Anne Kaczmaryn, Florence Falotico; and her parents.
Services and burial will be private. Arrangements are under the care of the MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF LINDENHURST, 1840 EAST GRAND AVE.

Imogene T. Marsala
Imogene T. Marsala, 80, of Round Lake passed away Monday, September 30, 2002 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Born April 20, 1922 in Powhatan, West Virginia. The daughter of the late John Lawrence Armstrong and Betsy Jennings.
She leaves her husband Antonio Marsala whom she wed in the 1950's. Children Lawrence R. Marsala of San Jose, CA, Antonio B. Marsala of Fox Lake, and Ruth A. Ruggles of Round Lake. 7 grandchildren Richard, Ryan, Roger Ruggles; Antonio III, Wayne, Jeanette and James Marsala. Sisters Mary K. Miranda of Ashland, KY; Dolly G. Marcinkus of Winthrop Harbor. She is preceded in death by brothers Richard and John Armstrong in 1995, Bernard Armstrong in 2001, and sister Betty Vegenhardt in 2001.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, October 2, 2002 St. Joseph Catholic Church, 114 N. Lincoln Street, Round Lake, IL 60073. (Friends are asked to meet at church). Interment will follow at Warren cemetery in Gurnee. Friends of the family may visit at the STRANG FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL 60030 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday evening.
