Specialist Wesley Robert Wells
Libertyville, Illinois
Specialist Wesley R. Wells, born October 24, 1982, 21 years old, was killed in action in Paktika, Afghanistan while conducting combat operations with the 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry of the US Army. The action took place on September 20, 2004, at 2:26 am (Afghanistan time).
Wesley was extremely proud of his career and accomplishments in the military. He received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expiditionary Medal and the National Defense Medal. When he was posted to Afghanistan in April, 2004, we all knew that it was a very dangerous place, and we all prayed for his safe return. This was not to be. Wesley paid the ultimate price while serving his country.
Wesley was married prior to leaving for Afghanistan. He was based at Schofield Barracks, Honolulu, HI where a Memorial Service will be held.
Wesley was a life long resident of Libertyville, attended Libertyville High School and was returned home for burial.
Wesley is survived by his wife Jonalyn Wells of Honolulu, HI, his mother Joan Neal of Gurnee, IL, his father Robert Wells of Palm Harbor, FL. Two sisters Heather Wells of Grayslake, IL and Tiffany Wells of Grayslake. Grandparents Mrs. (Paul) Mary Lawrence Neal of Sun City West, AZ, Helen Wells of Grayslake, and Tom Wells of Palm Harbor, FL. Aunts and uncles, Carol (Philip) Whiting of Libertyville, IL, Larry (Dawn) Neal of Lake Forest, IL, Paula Neal of Gurnee, IL, Patrick (Yvonne) Neal of Gurnee, Katherine (Roger) Anderson of Lake Villa, IL, Mary Ann (Robert) Key of Libertyville, Marty (Deena) Neal of Libertyville, Linda (Craig) Martens of Grayslake, Bill (Jane) Wells of Libertyville, Ted Wells of Lake Bluff, Steve Wells of Zion, IL, Jim (Wendy) Wells of Palm Harbor, FL, Cindy (Jeff) Harger of Libertyville and many cousins and friends.
Wesley was preceded in death by his grandfather, Paul M. Neal.
We are all very proud of Wesley's accomplishments in the military.
Visitation is Monday, September 27, 2004 from 1:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at the KRISTAN FUNERAL HOME P.C., 219 West Maple Ave. (2 blocks West of Rt. 45 on Rt. 176), Mundelein, IL. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Libertyville. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow in Ascension cemetery, Libertyville.

Bernard F. Chmielecki
Bernard F. Chmielecki, 65, of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2002, at his home. He was born February 17, 1937 in Chicago, and has lived in Pleasant Prairie the past fifteen years. Retiring in February of this year, he was the President of Berd Manufacturing in Wheeling, Illinois. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, and watching the wildlife on his property.
Survivors include his wife Sherri, whom he married May 12, 1989; one son, Tony (Sue) Bryzek; four daughters, Vicki Wallace, Kathi Kidd, Kelli (Jim) Buell, and Linda (Allen) Varney; eleven grandchildren; and one sister, Judith M. Girard.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 28, at 5:00 p.m., with a visitation from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, LTD., 120 W. Park Avenue, Libertyville. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice in his memory.

Estelle V. Faulkner
Estelle V. Faulkner, 108, a pioneer resident of Gurnee, passed away Monday, September 23, 2002 at Winchester House in Libertyville. She was born May 27, 1894 in Gurnee and was an avid sewer. She was a member of Gurnee Community Church, Warren cemetery Society, Royal Neighbors LCAHSE "Home Bureau", American Legion Auxiliary, and Naomi Circle of Gurnee Community Church.
Survivors include 3 children Jean Rudd of Gurnee, Stanley (Pat) Faulkner of Davis, IL and Marilyn (Al) See of Grayslake, IL; 10 grandchildren Gerald Rudd, Susan (John) Peterson, Carol (Donald) Berecz, Georgia (Jim) Weller, Martin (Diane) Faulkner, Marsha (Ken) Opperman, Bradley (Holly) Faulkner, Tim (Jane) Tiernan, Dave (Cindy) Tiernan and Rob (Chelle) Tiernan; 21 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Chester in 1965, 1 son Alvin in 1926, 1 granddaughter Lori Edwards in 1989, her parents George and Susan Esty Vose, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 27, 2002 at Gurnee Community Church with Rev. William Genda officiating. Burial will be at Warren cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF GURNEE, 305 cemetery Rd. and from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Friday at the church. Memorials may be given to Winchester House or Gurnee Community Church.

Frances D. Hoff
Frances D. Hoff, 87, formerly of Libertyville, died Sunday, September 22, 2002 at Plum Grove Nursing Home in Palatine. She was born January 6, 1915 in Chicago and had been a long time Libertyville resident. Mrs. Hoff and her late husband Jake were the founders and operators of the Bien Venue of Libertyville. She was a former member of St. Joseph Parish in Libertyville.
Survived by her daughter Doris (William) Hess; her sons Robert and Dr. Raymond (Susan); and eleven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Ronald "Dink" (Ann).
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 28 at MCMURROUGH CHAPEL, 101 Park Place, Libertyville. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville. It has been requested that memorial donations be directed to the Alzheimer's Society, 4709 Golf Rd., Suite 1015, Skokie, IL 60076 in Mrs. Hoff's memory. (847) 362-2626.

Russell Homan
Russell Homan, 82 years old of Friendship, WI formerly of Antioch, IL passed away Wednesday, September 25th, 2002 at the Villa Pines Living Center, Friendship. Russ was born January 14, 1920 in Niles Center, IL the son of the late Henry and Mathilda (Paugel) Homan. He had lived in Antioch for many years before moving to Friendship in 1982.
Russ was a painter and decorator having worked for the Progressive Decorators of Chicago for many years. He was a member of the Quincy Masonic Lodge, Heart of the Wisconsin Zor Shrine Club (1999 Shriner of the Year), the Adams Trinity Congregational Church where he served as a trustee and a former member of the United Methodist Church of Antioch. He was also a longtime member of the Mound View Golf Club where he enjoyed playing golf. On October 28, 1939 he married Jean Brett.
Survivors include his wife Jean, 2 sons, Tom (Marlyce) Homan of Antioch, IL and John Russell Homan of Las Vegas, NV, 2 daughters Ellen (Charles) Bertler of Antioch, IL and Donna (Robert) Holst of Trevor, WI, 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, many cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son Dean, one brother Donald and one sister Mildred Schaefer.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 28, 2002 at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main Street, with the Rev. Gary L. Curl of the United Methodist Church of Antioch officiating. Interment will be in Hillside cemetery, Antioch. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 until 8 PM Friday. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, Twin Cities Shriner Hospital, 2025 E. River Parkway, Minneapolis, MN 55414, in his memory.

Laura Leona Koch
Laura Leona Koch, age 85, of Highland Park passed away on Friday, September 20, 2002 at the Highland Park Hospital. Born February 5, 1917 in Britt, Iowa she has been a resident of Highland Park since 1947. She was a member of the women of the Moose, Highland Park, Illinois.
Survivors include her son Dwight Koch of Spring Grove; a daughter, Valerie (Tom) Williams of Libertyville; a sister, Helen Klapterich of Faribault, Minnesota and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by a brother Calvin Almindinger and a sister Eveline Van Ryan. Friends may call on Saturday, September 28, 2002 from 4:00 p.m. till time of services at 8:00 p.m. at the Seguin & Symonds Funeral Home, 858 Sheridan road, Highwood, Illinois. David M. Ladehoff
David M. Ladehoff, 72, of Gurnee, IL passed away Saturday, September 21, 2002 at Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan. He was born November 5, 1929 in Clinton, Iowa, and was a resident of the Waukegan and Gurnee area for most of his life. He was a graduate of Iowa State College in Ames and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Japan following World War II. David was the president of M & D Architectural Services, Inc. in Gurnee.
Surviving are 3 children, David (Cindy) Ladehoff of Crystal Lake, Susan Hendon of Libertyville and Whende (Dave) Besser of Leadville, CO; 2 step daughters, Deborah (Jack) Smith of Beach Park and Kim (John) Guercio of Lake Zurich; 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; his brother, Arthur (Sandy) Ladehoff and sisters, Sherrianna McKenrick and Diane Jones, all of Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustav and Isabella Ladehoff, by his wife Marilyn on March 9, 2001 and by an infant sister Nancy.
As he had requested, a celebration of David's life will be held from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday, September 27, at the Brydge House Restaurant, (formerly the Parkway), 3035 Belvidere Rd., Waukegan. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Assn., P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, Ohio 44720, in his memory. Arrangements by the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME LTD., 120 W. Elsie Marie (Dahl) Peterson
Elsie Marie (Dahl) Peterson, 84, of Waukegan, Illinois died September 24, 2002 at Rolling Hills Nursing Home. She was born June 3, 1918 in Highland Park, Illinois.
She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church where she served in many ways including as a deaconess, Sunday school teacher, choir member and on the 75th and 100th church anniversary committees. She retired from the Lake County Regional Superintendent of Schools Office in 1982.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roswell (Russ); her son, John; her mother and father, Nels and Alma Dahl; and her sisters, Marion Dahl and Helen (John) Harju. Surviving are her brother, Nels Elmer (Gladys) Dahl of Vero Beach, FL; her daughters, Judith (Lester) Stanley of Waukegan; and Janice (Charles) Howes of Waukegan; 5 grandchildren, Scott (Lori) Stanley, Jill (Robert) Whitehead, JoAnn Stanley, Heather Howes and Chris Howes; and 4 great-grandchildren, Travis and Ryan Whitehead and Rebecca and Kenneth Stanley.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 28, 2002 at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF GURNEE, 305 cemetery Rd., Pastor Alan Owens officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
Interment at Northshore Garden of Memories. Memorials are suggested for Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund.

Donald L. Schroeder II
Donald L. Schroeder II, 47, of Kenosha, Wisconsin, passed away on September 23, 2002 at Hines Veterans Hospital in Maywood, Illinois. Don spent his early years in Salem, Wisconsin before moving to Kenosha. He was an avid motorcyclist. Donald also received an honorable medical discharge from the United States Marine Corp.
He is survived by his wife Helen, daughter Donna Marie Schroeder of Salem, Wisconsin, and daughter Kelly Elizabeth Schroeder of Fulton, Mississippi. Also surviving are his mother Marilyn (Russell) Prescott of Lake Mary, Florida, brothers Brian Schroeder of Lake Villa, Illinois and Dean (Joanne) Prescott of Oveida, Florida. He is also survived by a sister Pamela (Michael) Burnett of Union Grove, Wisconsin, a nephew Jason Schroeder, and nieces Megan Schroeder and Kayla, Kelsey, and Kendra Burnett and his stepmother Martha Schroeder of Florida. He is also survived by numerous aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his father Donald Schroeder in 1993 and his son Christopher Lee Schroeder in 1996.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 620 Grove Avenue, Waukegan with Pastor Wayne Jahn officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion and also from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at the Redeemer Lutheran Church on Saturday. Memorial donations to the family in lieu of flowers may be made.

Shirley M. Van Geem
Shirley M. Van Geem, 77, of Waukegan passed away on Tuesday September 24, 2002 at her home. She was born March 27, 1925 in Racine, WI and had been an area resident for many years.
She was a member of Trinity United Lutheran Church and a former member of the Swedish Glee Club. Shirley had worked at Montgomery Ward in the forties and later worked as a waitress. She was one of the first waitresses hired at the Rustic Manor and had also worked at The Elks Club and Swedish Glee Club.
She is survived by her husband, John H. Van Geem whom she met in April of 1942, one of their first dates was the Senior Prom at Warren High School in May of 1942. She is also survived by her children, Curtis Van Geem of Gurnee, John C. Van Geem of Waukegan and Lisa (Kenneth) Ruley of Gurnee; grandchildren, Katie and John T. Van Geem, Mitchell and Ross Ruley; her daughter-in-law, Barbara Van Geem of Island Lake, IL; 2 sisters-in-law, Ruth Dingman of Waukegan and Lillian Kirkwood of LaGuna Hills, CA; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Iris (nee Pointer) Curtis.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, September 27, 2002 at PETERSON-PATCH FUNERAL HOME, 408 N. Sheridan Rd., Waukegan with Rev. Dennis Kelly officiating. Entombment will be at Highland Memorial Park in Libertyville. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 9 P.M. Thursday. Donations in her memory may be made to the Lung Association.

John Raymond Wagenaar
John Raymond Wagenaar, age 47, died on Wednesday, September 4, 2002.
Survived by his wife, Sandra; children, Lorelei (Jason) Volstad, Evan, John, Kyle and Richard; grandchildren, Brandon and Eric Volstad; and mother, Joan.
John was preceded in death by his father, Harry; his three brothers, H. Michael (Dorothy), Thomas (Carol) and Robert (Rosemary); sister, Joanna (Gary) Tinch; and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Church, 121 E. Maple Ave., Libertyville at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 27, 2002. Interment at Ascension cemetery, 1920 W. Buckley Rd., Libertyville, will follow Mass.
