Melanie L. Vazquez
Melanie L. Vazquez, 2 month old daughter of Cornelio and Nelida (nee Lira) Vazquez of Round Lake, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2002 at the Children's Hospital in Milwaukee, WI. Also surviving are her sister Jossey and grandparents, Catalina Vazquez of Round Lake and Armando and Tomasa Lira of Round Lake Park.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 25 at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176) Libertyville. A service will follow at Ascension cemetery.

Mabel B. Young
Mabel B. Young, 92, formerly of Waukegan, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2002 at Ramsey Woods in Cudahy, WI. She was born September 26, 1909 in England and had been an area resident for many years.
Mabel was a former member of First Christian Church in Waukegan and recently had been a member of Atonement Lutheran Church in Muskego, WI. She was a 55 year member of I.B.E.W. and prior to her retirement had worked at Commonwealth Edison as a service representative for 26 years.
She is survived by her son, William (Nanette) Young of Harshaw, WI and daughter, Linda (Robert) Weidman of Grayslake, IL; her grandchildren, Renee (Tim) Meilahn of OshKosh, WI, Bryan (Teri) Young of Rheinlander, WI, James (Karin) Weidman of Grayslake, Barbara (William) Wise of Lake Villa and Gerald Weidman of Berkley, MI; also by 11 great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil in 1946; her sister, Dorothy Miller and brother, Leonard Welsh.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at Peterson-Patch Funeral Home, 408 North Sheridan Rd., Waukegan with Rev. T.M. Carroll officiating. Interment will be at Warren cemetery in Gurnee. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Julia D. Bergfield
Former Bristol Resident
Julia D. Bergfield (nee DiLorenzo), age 82, of Suffolk, VA died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003 in the Lake Prince Nursing Center in Suffolk, VA. Born in Bristol, PA she was the daughter of the late Gaetano and Maria DiLorenzo. She was educated the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing and had served in the Navy during WWII in the nursing corps. She lived in Waukegan, IL for 26 years. During that time she was employed by Cherry Electric Co. until her retirement in 1989. She then moved back to Bristol, PA where she resided until last year. During that time she was an active member of St. Ann Church in Bristol and with the local senior citizens.
She was the wife of the late William R. Bergfield and the sister of the late Pasquale DiLorenzo, Carmella Esposito and Daniel DiLorenzo. She is survived by her son Thomas G. Bergfield and wife Debora of Suffolk, Va. 2 grandchildren Jeanna and Matthew Bergfield of Suffolk, Va. 2 Sisters, Edith La Cava of Philadelphia and Yolanda Conti of Edgewater Park N.J. 1 brother Thomas DiLorenzo of Bristol, Penna.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral on Friday, Sept. 26, 2003 at 9AM at the Molden Funeral Chapel Inc. 133 Otter St. Bristol, PA a funeral mass will follow at 10AM at St. Ann Church Bristol with Interment in St. Mark cemetery. Friends may call Thursday eve. from 7-9pm at the funeral chapel. In lieu of flower contribution may be made to the Brother Luciano Scholarship fund c/o St. Ann Church 357 Dorrance St. Bristol, PA.

Carolyn Brown Callahan
Carolyn Brown Callahan, 68, of Grayslake passed away at her home on Tuesday, September 23, 2003. Born October 22, 1934 in Chicago. The daughter of the late Louis Brown and Pauline Jensen. A resident of Lake County since 1962 and of Grayslake since 1976. Member of St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church of Gurnee.
She leaves her husband William "Bill" J. Callahan whom she wed on February 23, 1952 in Chicago. Her children Mary Pat (Michael) LeMoult of Trumbull, Conn.; Susan Callahan of Gurnee; Kevin (Martha) Callahan of Palatine. Her grandchildren Kerri and Ryan Callahan; Michael and Meghan LeMoult. A cousin Robert (Elizabeth) Cloutier of Geneva, IL.
She is preceded in death by her daughter Maureen Callahan on January 24, 1973.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11:05 AM on Saturday, September 27, 2003 at St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church, 6401 Gages Lake Rd., Gurnee, IL 60031. Interment will follow at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville. Friends of the family may visit at the STRANG FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL 60030 on Friday from 4:00 to 9:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Condell Hospice, 115 Church St., Libertyville, IL 60048.

Sophie (Zofia) S. Jakubowski
Sophie (Zofia) S. Jakubowski, 89, of Libertyville, formerly of North Chicago died Sunday, September 21 in Condell Medical Center, Libertyville. She was born March 22, 1914 in Czestochowa, Poland and had been a resident of Libertyville since 1987. Prior to that, Sophie had lived in North Chicago for 35 years. She was a former member of Holy Family Parish and was presently a member of St. Joseph Parish, Libertyville.
She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth (Charles) Nystrom, her son Henry (Lisa Heard) Jakubowski all of Waukegan, two grandsons Carl J. Nystrom of Washington state and Christopher L. Nystrom of Waukegan, along with one sister living in Poland, several nieces and nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1987.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, September 25 at McMURROUGH FUNERAL CHAPEL, 101 Park Place, Libertyville. Entombment will follow at Ascension cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

Josephine "Jo" A. Jarc
A memorial funeral service will be held Saturday, September 27, 2003 at 3 p.m. for Josephine Jarc, age 88, at KOLSSAK FUNERAL HOME, 189 S. Milwaukee Ave. (2 blocks south of Dundee Rd.) Wheeling. Josephine passed away September 12, 2003 at her home. She led a wonderful life of service to others.
Jo is survived by her sons, Jack (Kim) Jarc of Floodwood, MN, and Len (Deb) Jarc of Fox River Grove, IL; her grandchildren, Jessica (Dennis) Wade of Prairie View, IL, Bret Jarc of McHenry, IL, Britney Jarc of Brighton, CO and Vanity Jarc of Floodwood, MN; her great grandchildren Jacob and Alyssa; and by her dear friend Marilyn Wade.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Jarc.
Memorial visitation will be Saturday 12 noon until the time of service at 3 p.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Partners of Lake Forest, 800 Westmoreland LL10, Lake Forest, IL 60045.

Lenore "Lee" Payette
Lenore "Lee" Payette, 84, of Winthrop Harbor died on Friday, September 19, 2003 at Rolling Hills Manor Nursing Home in Zion.
She was born April 2, 1919 in Antigo, Wisconsin, where she grew up and attended schools. She moved to this area in her early 20's and began working for Abbott Laboratories and later worked for both the Globe and Heinz Department Stores in Waukegan. She was a member of Winthrop Harbor V.F.W. Auxiliary and both the Waukegan and Gurnee American Legion Auxiliaries.
Survivors include children Joseph R. (Margo) Payette of Beach Park, Dennis W. Payette of Winthrop Harbor and Patricia M. (Michael) Beyer of Zion. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph in 2000, by one sister Maxine Desmaris, two brothers Gordon and LeRoy Turney and her parents Leonard and Genevieve Turney.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, September 26, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Humility Church, 10655 W. Wadsworth Road, Beach Park. Visitation will be Thursday, September 25th, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion and again on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at Our Lady of Humility Church. (847) 746-1234. In lieu of flowers and in her memory, memorial donations may be sent to Alzheimer's Association, Greater Illinois Chapter, 4709 Golf Road, Suite 1015, Skokie, Illinois 60076.

Charles Romeo
Charles Romeo, 79, of Waukegan, Illinois died Monday, September 22, 2003 at Kindred Hospital in Greenfield, Wisconsin. He was born August 23, 1924 in LaSalle, Illinois and had resided in Waukegan for the past 74 years.
During World War II he served as a First Class Petty Officer in the Navy. He retired from the United States Post Office in 1979.
He was a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 731 of Waukegan, A.A.R.P., National Association of Retired Federal Employees and Immaculate Conception Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah (Kenneth) Solis of Greenfield, Wisconsin, his grandson, Kyle Solis and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Patricia in 1957, two brothers, Sam in 1994 and Peter in 1991, as well as his parents Leonardo Romeo in 1961 and Josephine Romeo in 1939.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 2003 at Immaculate Conception Church, 508 Grand Ave., Waukegan. Interment will be at Ascension cemetery, Libertyville. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at MARSH FUNERAL HOME, 1521 Washington Street. If desired masses would be appreciated or memorials to The American Lung Association.

Helen Marion Smith
Helen Marion Smith, 87, of Long Lake, IL passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2003 at Winchester House, Libertyville, IL.
She was born in Chicago, IL on October 5, 1915, the daughter of the late Nils and Edith Petersen. Formerly of Chicago, she was a resident of Long Lake for the past 53 years. She was a member of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, McHenry, IL.
She is survived by her children, John H. III (Karen) of Ft. Collins, CO, Donald J. (Marilee) of Billings, MT, and Judith A. Fosczc of Long Lake; her grandchildren, John H. IV, Annette, Bonnie, Christopher, Michael, Heather, Aaron and Cortney; and 13 great grandchildren; her sisters, Virginia (Roy) Wagner of Ingleside and Lorraine Zivalich of Chicago.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Smith, II, and sister Louise Peterson.
Funeral services were private. Arrangements were handled by RINGA FUNERAL HOME, Lake Villa, IL.

Lois J. Wilkening
Lois J. Wilkening, 77, of Libertyville, IL, passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at the Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. She was born April 23, 1926 in Grayslake and had been a Libertyville resident for the past 54 years. Lois was a former employee of both Ace Hardware and the Frank G. Hough Co. in Libertyville.
Surviving are her husband Don Wilkening and two children, Lori (Dennis) Dougherty of Vernon Hills and Rick Wilkening of Libertyville; her grandson Michael Dougherty and sister Ruth Beck of Waukegan. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Lila Hucker.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 26 at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Avenue (Rt. 176) Libertyville. Interment will follow at Lakeside cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday. Memorial contributions can be made to the Lakeside cemetery Renovation Fund, P.O. Box 500, Libertyville, IL 60048.

Mildred "Millie" Worthley
Mildred "Millie" Worthley, 87, of Waukegan and North Chicago died Sunday, September 21, 2003 at Victory Memorial Hospital, Waukegan, IL.
She was born February 19, 1916 in Rochester, NY and lived in this area the last 55 years. Millie assisted her husband Bob Worthley at the Worthley Studios on 10th and Adams Streets in North Chicago for many years.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Waukegan, World War II Army Air Force Veteran and one of the original Women's Army Air Corps "WAAC"; setting up the first female barracks in Las Vegas, NV. She was a member of the North Chicago American Legion Auxiliary.
Millie is survived by her two sons, Bob Jr. (Frances) of Lake Villa and Richard (Mickie) of Beaumont, CA, six grandchildren, Scott, Jennie, and Robert Worthley III, Jenelle Ancona and Richard Worthley Jr. Also 11 great grandchildren.
Millie was preceded in death by her husband Robert Worthley January 18, 1991.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24 at the SALATA GURNEE FUNERAL HOME, 4190 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee, IL. Chapel Services will be held Thursday at the Highland Memorial Park cemetery Chapel at 12 noon.

Frances M. Bittner
Frances M. Bittner, age 91, recently of Florida, and lifelong resident of North Chicago, passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2004 at Victory Memorial Hospital, Waukegan. She was born March 15, 1913 in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Hugh and Ethel (Grady) Wilkins.
She married Arthur Bittner in 1930 at Holy Family Catholic Church in North Chicago. She was employed at Sears for over 35 years as a personnel manager. She was also a charter member of the Waukegan Chapter of the American Business Women's Association, and was very active in the organization for over 30 years. She was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in North Chicago. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and craft work, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Survivors include two daughters, Frances (the late Frank) Bojniewicz of Waukegan, and Marilynn (Carl) Carstens of St. Augustine, FL; 16 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Arloa (the late Max) Downey of Phoenix, AZ; and a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Bittner of Winthrop Harbor, IL.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1994; a son, Richard; a grandson, Nicholas Bojniewicz; three brothers; and one sister.
Visitation will be Friday, September 24, from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Marsh Funeral Home in Gurnee, 305 cemetery Rd, Gurnee, IL. The funeral blessing will be Saturday, September 25, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Ascension cemetery, Libertyville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave, Ste 1700, Chicago, IL 60601 would be appreciated by the family.
