Mabel B. Young
Mabel B. Young, 92, formerly of Waukegan, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2002 at Ramsey Woods in Cudahy, WI. She was born September 26, 1909 in England and had been an area resident for many years.
Mabel was a former member of First Christian Church in Waukegan and recently had been a member of Atonement Lutheran Church in Muskego, WI. She was a 55 year member of I.B.E.W. and prior to her retirement had worked at Commonwealth Edison as a service representative for 26 years.
She is survived by her son, William (Nanette) Young of Harshaw, WI and daughter, Linda (Robert) Weidman of Grayslake, IL; her grandchildren, Renee (Tim) Meilahn of OshKosh, WI, Bryan (Teri) Young of Rheinlander, WI, James (Karin) Weidman of Grayslake, Barbara (William) Wise of Lake Villa and Gerald Weidman of Berkley, MI; also by 11 great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil in 1946; her sister, Dorothy Miller and brother, Leonard Welsh.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at Peterson-Patch Funeral Home, 408 North Sheridan Rd., Waukegan with Rev. T.M. Carroll officiating. Interment will be at Warren cemetery in Gurnee. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Lorena Braatz
Lorena Braatz, 92 years old of Antioch, IL formerly of Appleton, WI, passed away Sunday, September 21, 2003 at the Victory Lakes Continuing Care Center, Lindenhurst, IL. She was born November 1, 1910 in Belleplaine, WI the daughter of the late Herman and Fredareka (Peters) Stuebs. Lorena lived most of her life in Appleton living recently in the Oneida Senior Apartments. She moved to Antioch to be near her daughter in 2001. She was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Antioch and a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Appleton. Lorena loved the Sun and to be outside, looking forward each year to spend her winters in Florida. Before her retirement she had worked at the Appleton Chair factory and prior at the Appleton Wood products, as a wood finisher. On June 15, 1930 she married Arthur Braatz in Belleplaine, WI and he preceded her in death on February 12, 1995.
Survivors include her daughter Phyllis (Richard) Witthuhn of Antioch, two grandchildren, Sharon Finn of Boardentown, NJ and Sandy (Scott) Golladay of Antioch, IL, six great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by seven brothers and six sisters.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday September 25, 2003 at the Brett Sneider-Tretin-Lederer Funeral Chapel, 606 N. Oneida, Appleton, WI with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park cemetery, Appleton. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Stephen Lutheran Church of Antioch, IL in her memory.
Local arrangements are by the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH.

George F. Hewitt
George F. Hewitt, 81, of Elm Grove, WI and formerly of Keshena, WI (Legend Lake) and Waukegan passed away on Friday, September 19, 2003 at his home. He was born July 23, 1922 in Waukegan.
George was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Waukegan, Shriners, Medinah Temple, and Beja Temple in Green Bay, WI. He retired from Outboard Marine Corp. in 1987 after years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He is survived by his son, Thomas (Jeanne) Hewitt of Elm Grove, WI; granddaughter, Anne Hewitt of Milwaukee, WI; brother Charles (Doris) Hewitt of Cincinnati, OH; and sisters, Genevieve (Ray) Sorensen of Lake Land, FL and Ida Zadigian of Waukegan.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Hewitt in 1995; son George Hewitt Jr. in 1961; parents, Frank and Maud (nee Lewin) Hewitt and a brother, Harry Hewitt.
Funeral Services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at PETERSON & PATCH FUNERAL HOME, 408 N. Sheridan Rd., Waukegan with Fr. Albert Majkrzak from Christ Episcopal Church officiating. Interment will be at Northshore Garden of Memories in North Chicago. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. to time of service on Tuesday.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Shriners Crippled Children Fund, 2211 N. Oakpark Ave., Chicago, IL 60635.

Sophie (Zofia) S. Jakubowski
Sophie (Zofia) S. Jakubowski, 89, of Libertyville, formerly of North Chicago died Sunday, September 21 in Condell Medical Center, Libertyville. She was born March 22, 1914 in Czestochowa, Poland and had been a resident of Libertyville since 1987. Prior to that, Sophie had lived in North Chicago for 35 years. She was a former member of Holy Family Parish and was presently a member of St. Joseph Parish, Libertyville.
She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth (Charles) Nystrom, her son Henry (Lisa Heard) Jakubowski all of Waukegan, two grandsons Carl J. Nystrom of Washington state and Christopher L. Nystrom of Waukegan, along with one sister living in Poland, several nieces and nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1987.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, September 25 at McMURROUGH FUNERAL CHAPEL, 101 Park Place, Libertyville. Entombment will follow at Ascension cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

Frances Bishop Kasper
Frances Bishop Kasper, 87, passed away on Sunday, September 14th, after a brief illness. She resided in Largo, Florida, for the past seven years and previously was a life long resident of Waukegan, Illinois. Mrs. Kasper was an employee of Abbott Laboratories for over 37 years while residing in Illinois.
She is survived by her only child, Constance J. Kasper; a granddaughter, Paige Allison Kasper, Largo; a grandson, Kevin Jon Cyganek, San Francisco.
Burial will be in Waukegan at a later date, beside her late husband, Stanley Kasper. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the Crohn's/Colitis (CCFA) Foundation, in her memory.

Edward F. Moran
Edward F. Moran, 78, of Waukegan passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2003 at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in North Chicago. He was born November 16, 1924 in Waukegan and remained a lifelong resident. He was a life member of St. Anastasia Parish, a veteran of World War II serving in the Marine Corps, a member of Homer Dahringer American Legion Post 281. Prior to retirement he had worked at Johnson Motors for over 30 years.
He is survived by his children, Janet (Bob) Wallace of Bolingbrook, IL, Mike (Barb) Moran of Menomonee Falls, WI, Kathy (Chuck) Clement of Gurnee and Peggy (Jerry) Williams of Waukegan; grandchildren, Brian (Julia), Ken, Mat and Amanda Wallace, Ryan (fiancee Lisa), Darren (Kelly) and Megan Moran, Laurie (Jim) Brattensborg, Karen (fiancee Brian), Diane (fiancee Adam) and Jackie Clement, Nicole and Eddie Williams.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores in 1981 and by his parents, Edward F. and Margaret (nee Wildner) Moran.
Family and friends will meet at St. Anastasia Church, 624 Douglas Ave., Waukegan at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2003 for Funeral Mass. Interment will be at Ascension cemetery, Libertyville. Friends may call at PETERSON-PATCH FUNERAL HOME, 408 N. Sheridan Rd., Waukegan on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Dan E. Nickerson
Dan E. Nickerson, 50, of Gurnee passed away September 22, 2003 at St. Therese Medical Center. He was born March 21, 1953 in Waukegan.
He is survived by one daughter, Dawn Nickerson of Littleton, CO, one son, Ryan Nickerson of Littleton, CO, one grandson, Dustin, parents Robt and Dorothy Nickerson of Presque Isle, WI and one brother, Brad (Sue) Nickerson of Libertyville.
Services will be private. Burial private. Arrangements under the care of MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF WAUKEGAN. Donations may be directed to Camp Jorn c/o Waukegan YMCA.

Vincent J. Patla Jr. "Pat"
Vincent J. Patla Jr. "Pat", 82 years old of Union Grove, WI passed away Saturday September 20, 2003 at Memorial Hospital, Burlington, WI. He was born July 19, 1921 in Chicago, IL the son of the late Vincent J. and Sophie (Janus) Patla, moving to Wisconsin in 1952. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II as a Major and was a navigator with the 446th Bomb Group. Pat was a member of the Reserve Officers Association, American Legion, VFW, the 8th Air Force Historical Assoc., the 2nd Air Division Assoc. and the 446th Bob Group Assoc. On October 23, 1946 he married Jacquelyn Richards in Las Vegas, NV. They had operated the Brave Bull Supper Club in Trevor, WI for 32 years, were members of the Wisconsin Restaurant Assoc. and the Tavern League of Kenosha County. His wife preceded him in death on February 20, 2002. Pat was also a past president and member of the Rotary Club of Antioch, IL.
Survivors are two sons, Ronald (Kathleen) and John (Lori) Patla both of Burlington, WI, two daughters, Pamela Patla of Milwaukee, WI and Janice Patla of Union Grove, WI, five grandchildren, Dana (Keith) Szemborski, Joe Patla, Robert Patla, Lindsay Patla and Luke Marvitz, two great grandchildren, Jacob and Alexei. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Patla in 1995.
Visitation will be from Noon Thursday September 25, 2003 until the time of services at 2:00 PM at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME, 1055 Main St. (Rte 83) Antioch, IL. Interment will be private at Liberty cemetery, Trevor, WI. Those desiring may make contributions to the Union Grove Fire and Rescue, 700 Main St., Union Grove, WI 53182.

Lenore "Lee" Payette
Lenore "Lee" Payette, 84, of Winthrop Harbor died on Friday, September 19, 2003 at Rolling Hills Manor Nursing Home in Zion.
She was born April 2, 1919 in Antigo, Wisconsin, where she grew up and attended schools. She moved to this area in her early 20's and began working for Abbott Laboratories and later worked for both the Globe and Heinz Department Stores in Waukegan. She was a member of Winthrop Harbor V.F.W. Auxiliary and both the Waukegan and Gurnee American Legion Auxiliaries.
Survivors include children Joseph R. (Margo) Payette of Beach Park, Dennis W. Payette of Winthrop Harbor and Patricia M. (Michael) Beyer of Zion. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph in 2000, by one sister Maxine Desmaris, two brothers Gordon and LeRoy Turney and her parents Leonard and Genevieve Turney.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, September 26, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Humility Church, 10655 W. Wadsworth Road, Beach Park. Visitation will be Thursday, September 25th, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion and again on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at Our Lady of Humility Church. (847) 746-1234. In lieu of flowers and in her memory, memorial donations may be sent to Alzheimer's Association, Greater Illinois Chapter, 4709 Golf Road, Suite 1015, Skokie, Illinois 60076.

Cecil J. Reimers
Cecil J. Reimers, 78, of Mundelein, IL, passed away Friday, September 19, 2003 at his home. He was born February 4, 1925 in Lamoure County, ND and was a 1943 graduate of Austin High School in Minnesota. Following graduation, Cecil enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served as a hospital corpsman in the Pacific Theatre during World War II and was a member of the Libertyville VFW Post #8741. He was a former employee of the Day-Buttemiller Clinic in Libertyville and served as a medical technologist at Condell Hospital for 43 years.
Surviving are four sons, Phillip (Terri) Reimers of Grand Prairie, TX, Glen (Chris) Reimers of Aurora, IL, Gary (Tracey) Reimers of Racine, WI and James Reimers of Dallas, TX; eight grandchildren, Jeremy, Erik, Ashley, Alyssa, Kyle, Kristopher, Luke and Katerina; four sisters, Ione Leeman of St. Paul, MN, Phyllis Jensen of Cerritos, CA, Ardith Erickson of Fort Walton Beach, FL, and Teri Johnston of Austin, MN; two brothers, Robert Reimers of Austin, MN and Lloyd Reimers of Walnut, CA; He was the loving uncle to numerous nieces and nephews and also surviving are many cousins and friends, including his dear cousin Larry Reimers of Prospect Heights and dear friend Chester Citterman of Mundelein.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Edith Reimers, by his brothers, Basil and Charles and sister Naomi Braten.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 23 at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176) Libertyville. Funeral services will be during the visitation at 7 p.m. Interment will be at Memorial Park cemetery in Austin, MN.

Florence M. Valaitis
Florence M. Valaitis, 90, of Crosby, MN, formerly of Waukegan, died August 20, 2003, in the Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby.
She was born August 19, 1913 in Chicago, IL to Stanley and Tillie Wojcik. She was married to Bernard Valaitis in February of 1935.
Burial will be in Ascension cemetery, Libertyville, IL on September 24th. Father Cull will officiate at a graveside service at 10:00 a.m.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Delores and Gilman Birkholz, McGregor, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Bernard; brothers Al, Frank and Matt; and her parents.

Lillian J. Wolff
Lillian J. Wolff, age 78, passed away Monday September 22, 2003 at Winchester House in Libertyville, IL. Born in Chicago, Lillian was a resident of Grayslake the majority of her life. She was a member of St. Gilbert Catholic Church and was employed at St. Joseph Catholic School in Libertyville for over 25 years until her retirement in 1989.
Lillian is survived by her children Karen (Dr. John) Barry, Linda (Charles) Sjoberg, Joan Bena, Paul Wolff, Patty (Terry) Trosen, Michael (Sue) Wolff, Sue (Frank) Abderholden, Mary (Bob) VanderMey, her grandchildren Brendan, Caitlin, and Brian Barry, Matt and Tony Bena, Kelly Wolff, Jenny, Sarah, and Emily Trosen, Megan and Austin Wolff, Liz and Kate Abderholden, Ryan, Kerry, and Joe VanderMey, and a great-grandchild Savannah Wilburn. Her husband Edward Wolff preceded her in death on September 6, 1992.
A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday September 24, 2003 at STRANG FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL 60030 at 5:30 p.m. Friends of the family may visit on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral chapel. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be given to the American Diabetes Association, 30 N. Michigan Ave. #2015, Chicago, IL 60602.

Mildred "Millie" Worthley
Mildred "Millie" Worthley, 87, of Waukegan and North Chicago died Sunday, September 21, 2003 at Victory Memorial Hospital, Waukegan, IL.
She was born February 19, 1916 in Rochester, NY and lived in this area the last 55 years. Millie assisted her husband Bob Worthley at the Worthley Studios on 10th and Adams Streets in North Chicago for many years.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Waukegan, World War II Army Air Force Veteran and one of the original Women's Army Air Corps "WAAC"; setting up the first female barracks in Las Vegas, NV. She was a member of the North Chicago American Legion Auxiliary.
Millie is survived by her two sons, Bob Jr. (Frances) of Lake Villa and Richard (Mickie) of Beaumont, CA, six grandchildren, Scott, Jennie, and Robert Worthley III, Jenelle Ancona and Richard Worthley Jr. Also 11 great grandchildren.
Millie was preceded in death by her husband Robert Worthley January 18, 1991.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24 at the SALATA GURNEE FUNERAL HOME, 4190 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee, IL. Chapel Services will be held Thursday at the Highland Memorial Park cemetery Chapel at 12 noon.
