Martha L. Pottala
Martha L. Pottala, 94, of Waukegan, IL., passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2001 in Waukegan.
She was born Nov 15, 1906 in Kalevo, Michigan. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, and also a member of the Ladies Guild & Women of St, Mark's.
Surviving are two children, John (Roselyn) Pottala of Beach Park, IL; Barbara (Dr, Glenn) Mitchell of Waukegan, IL; ten grandchildren and twenty four great grandchildren,
She was preceded in death by her husband, John in 1994; one sister, Eva Densmure.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, April 2, 2001 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Northshore Garden of Memories. Visitation will be at 10:00 A.M.-11:00 A.M., at St. Mark's Lutheran Church on April 2, 2001.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Marks Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Patricia Beach
Patricia "Pat" Beach (nee Edwards), age 50, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2001 in her home in Ingleside.
She was born on September 29, 1950 in Libertyville, IL., and was a Lake County resident most of her life except for a few years in Chino Valley, Arizona.
Pat was a loving mother and grandmother. She devoted her life and love to her family.
She is survived by her children: Jessica (Bob) Hawks of Ingleside, IL., Jennifer Zimmerman of Woodstock, IL., Christian Beach of Ingleside, IL., her sister Ruth (Perry) Miller of Round Lake Beach, IL., her brother Richard (Brenda) Edwards of Twin Lakes, WI., her mother Jeanette Edwards of Round Lake Beach, IL., and most important her precious grandchildren Cody, Nathan, Jayden, Chloe, and Aurora. Also many nieces and nephews survive. She is preceded in death by her father Richard Edwards.
She will always be loved and missed by her family.
Memorial services will be held at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 510 Cedar Lake Rd., Round Lake, IL., on Friday, March 23, 2001 at 4:30 p.m., presided by Rev. Lisle J. Kauffman.
In lieu of flowers, donations maybe made to your favorite charity or to Calvary Presbyterian Church in Round Lake.

Andrew S. Grekso
Andrew S. Grekso, 91, of Waukegan passed away on Monday, March 19, 2001 at Victory Memorial Hospital. He was born March 2, 1910 in Procter, VT., and had been a Waukegan resident since 1945.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, a veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Homer Dahringer American Legion Post 281. He had worked at Reliance Universal Paint, Varnish and Stain Company from 1946 until his retirement in 1975.
He is survived by his wife Mildred; Son, Thomas Grekso of Waukegan, Grandchildren, John Grekso of Milwaukee, WI and Elizabeth Grekso of Green Bay, WI; and his Sister, Helen Moore of New York.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Grekso (nee Grissom) and by his brother, Paul Grekso.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday March 22, 2001 at PETERSON AND PATCH FUNERAL HOME, 408 N. Sheridan Rd., Waukegan, with Rev. Joseph Wilcox officiating. Interment at Pineview Memorial Park will be private. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to your favorite charity.

Walter C. Jahnke
Walter C. Jahnke, 76, of North Chicago, IL passed away Sunday, March 18, 2001 at Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan, IL.
He was born December 30, 1924 on the family farm in St. Olaf, Iowa, the son of Walter and Iva Jahnke.
He farmed with his father in Lake County, IL
He graduated from Warren Township High School in 1942 and attended the University of Illinois Extension and the College of Lake County. He worked at the North Chicago and Northbrook Water Filtration Plants, he retired from the North Chicago Water Filtration Plant and General Fire Extinguisher Corp in Northbrook. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed fishing with his children. He was a Commissioner on the North Chicago Housing Authority, a Democratic Precinct Committeeman, a member of the Knights of Columbus #731 of Waukegan, a life member of the B.P.O. Elks of Waukegan Lodge #702, Holy Name Society, Holy Rosary Parish, was a Merit Badge Counselor, Boy Scouts of America Troop 36 North Chicago, A.A.R.P., member of Lake County Farm Bureau, and the Greater North Chicago Senior Citizen Club (Foss Park District).
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Lorraine (Zdanowicz); four sons, Glenn of North Chicago, Neal (Frannie) of Mundelein, IL, Mark of San Diego, CA and David (Susan) of Chicago, IL; two daughters, Lynn (Bruce) Snyder and Susan Jahnke both of Brandon, Florida; his mother-in-law, Helen Zdanowicz of Brandon, FL; grandchildren, Sara, Eric, Erin, Paul, Alex, Greg, Maureen, Austin, Crystal, Bobby, Keri, Claire, Kaitlin and Jasmin; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Elaine Cannon and Lois Campbell; and brother, Russell (Vivian) Jahnke.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 AM Friday, March 23, 2001 in Queen of Peace Catholic Church, North Chicago, IL.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM Thursday, March 22, 2001 in the SALATA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 729 - 14th Street, North Chicago, IL.

Louanna (Lou) Leis
Louanna (Lou) Leis, 77, of Waukegan, passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2001 at her home.
She was born December 31, 1923 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and moved to Waukegan at a very young age. She was a graduate of St. Anastasia School and Holy Child High School and a member of St. Anastasia Church. She worked 37 years for Civil Service at the Navy Regional Finance Center of Great Lakes, Illinois. She loved gardening, needlepoint and fishing.
She is survived by a brother, Frank (Rosemary) Leis of Duluth, Minnesota; step mother, Lidwina Leis of Wheeling, Illinois; three nieces; ten nephews; and her best friend and caregiver, Sally Copple.
Her parents, Edward and Leone Leis; and a sister, Doris Germann preceded her in death.
A memorial Mass is set for Wednesday morning at 10:00 am. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:00 with Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anastasia Church. Interment will take place at Ascension cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Vista Star Hospice, 2615 Washington St., Waukegan, IL, 60085.

Opal M. Smith
Opal M. Smith (nee Cauble), age 86 of Indiana, former longtime resident of Fox Lake, IL., died on Monday, March 19, 2001 at Valparaiso health Care Center in Indiana.
She was born in Dongola, IL. on February 11, 1915 to Otha and Lela (nee Edelman) Cauble. She was formerly a cook at Pistakee Golf Course in McHenry and a former member of the Fox Lake Moose.
Survivors include her sons Jack (Mary Anne) Smith of Florida; Bill (Sharon) Smith, Fox Lake; Terry (Janet) Smith, McHenry; and Bob (Fran) Smith, Arizona; her daughters Betty Voyles of Westville, Indiana; her brothers: Don (Imogene) Cauble of Dongola, IL., and Bill (Jeannie) Cauble, Carbondale, IL.; by 23 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren. Nieces, nephews and other relatives survive. She was preceded in death by her husband,Leonard Smith in 1973, a son James O. Smith, a brother Harold Cauble, her son-in-law Maxwell Voyles and by 2 grandchildren.
Friends of the family may call from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M. on Friday, March 23, 2001 at the K.K. HAMSHER FUNERAL HOME, LTD., 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd., Fox Lake (in the Chapel on the Lake) where Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday. Interment will follow at Grant cemetery, Ingleside, IL. .

Very Rev. Nikolai Dazgich
Very Rev. Nikolai Dazgich, 88, of Third Lake, Illinois passed away Monday, March 19, 2001 at the Pavilion Nursing Home in Waukegan. He was born August 22, 1912 in Malagradusa, Yugoslavia to the late Dusan and Miljka Dazgic. At age 12, Father Nikolai was taken to the Monastery Gomirje by his uncle, where he later finished Seminary School. He served as a Priest in Rakobica and in 1939 was chosen to follow the late Bishop Dionisije to the United States and St. Sava Monastery in Libertyville to serve as religious and music leaders. Father Nikolai was always very active in the church music programs as he was also a graduate of the Music Academy in Belgrade.
Surviving are his sister, Jela Cavic, a niece Nana (Milan) Vukotic and nephew Petar (Zora) Cavic, all of the former Yugoslavia; his great niece Mary (Matt) Peyakovic of Libertyville and great nephew Branko (Slavicka) Vukotic of Buffalo Grove and several great great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Noon, Thursday, March 22, 2001 at The Most Holy Mother of God Monastery in Third Lake. Interment will follow in the Monastery cemetery. Visitation and the Pomen service will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Monastery. Arrangements are by the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, in Libertyville. Info: (847) 362-3009.

Mabel C. Cadwallader
Mabel C. Cadwallader, 85, a longtime resident of Fox Lake, Illinois died on Tuesday, March 18, 2002 at her home. She was born on April 4, 1916 in Madison, WI to John and Cecelia (nee Kelly) Sharrett.
Survivors include her son, Thomas (Laura) Naubert of El Paso, TX; her daughters, Patricia (James) Klonowski of Lakemoor, Nona (Richard) Unrein of Yorktown, Indiana, Geri (her fiancee, Keith Sellig) Chadwick of Fox Lake; her former son-in-law, Steve Cadwallader; twelve grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; nieces and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl J. Cadwallader on July 22, 1974; her brother, Hank; her sisters, Bonnie and Jeanne; a grandson; a granddaughter; and a great-grandson.

James Michael Canelakes
James Michael Canelakes, 52, of Beach Park, IL, died March 17, 2002 in Waukegan.
He was a member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a graduate of Southern Illinois University. He had been a History and Civic Teacher at Waukegan High School. Jim loved baseball and had played softball in various leagues in Waukegan. At one time he had hitchhiked through Europe.
He is survived by his wife, Tammie; a son, Peter Canalakes of Waukegan; three step children, Crystal, Natasha and James; his parents, Tom adn Kathryn Canelakes af Waukegan; a brother, Tony (Linda) Canelakes of Sarasota, FL; a nephew, Tom Canelakes; a niece, Amanda Canelakes Ewing; and two great nephews, Nicholas and Anthony.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Peter Canalakes.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2002 at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF GURNEE, 305 cemetery Rd. Father John Sardis officiating.
Interment North shore Garden of Memories. Visitation from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday. Trisagion Service 7 p.m. Wednesday at funeral home.

Dorothy Canzoneri
Dorothy Canzoneri, 77, of Long Grove, IL, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2002 at her home. She was born March 5, 1925 in McCrory, Arkansas, was a former resident of Norridge and a Long Grove resident for the past 32 years.
Dorothy was a former volunteer at the Marytown/Kolbe Shrine in Libertyville and Santa Maria del Popolo School in Mundelein.
Surviving is her husband of 57 years, Joseph Canzoneri; three children, John (Diana) Canzoneri of Glenview, Joanne Jasenovec of Libertyville and Joseph (Jenifer) Canzoneri of Mundelein; seven grandchildren, John, Suzanne, Thomas, Natalie, Nina, Ashley and Jenna and dearest sister-in-law of Marie (John) DeMondo of Hoffman Estates.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Della Chaney; two brothers and; four sisters.
Payers will begin at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, March 21 at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176) Libertyville and services will continue to Santa Maria del Popolo Church in Mundelein for Mass at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Memorial contributions can be made to Condell Hospice in her memory. Info: 847-362-3009.

Dorothy E. Hunt
Dorothy E. Hunt, 76, of Waukegan, died March 18, 2002 at Victory Memorial Hospital.
She was born April 3, 1925 and was a retired Telephone Operator for Ameritech retiring in 1994 after 47 years. Her hobbies included gardening.
She is survived by her two children, Joel (Kim) Hunt of Winthrop Harbor, IL, Paula Hunt of Waukegan; three grandchildren, John, of Winthrop Harbor, Kristen and Stefanie of Florida. Many nieces and nephews also survived as well as dear friends, Dorothy Baskerville and the Olsons. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul in 1996; and two sons Robert 1973 and Jeffrey in 1983.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2002 at March Funeral Home of Waukegan, 1521 Washington St. Private interment at Northshore Garden of Memories. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, and 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Theodore W. Knopp
Theodore W. Knopp, age 50, of Fox Lake for the past 26 years, formerly of Lisle and Naperville, died on Monday, March 18, 2002 at Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry. He was born in Lansing, Michigan on April 22, 1951 to William and Mae (nee Mueller) Knopp. He was employed with Fairfield Material in Round Lake for the past 4 years in office sales and delivery departments. He enjoyed his family, bar-b-queing, fishing and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife Valerie Knopp (nee Smith) of Fox Lake; his son Christopher Knopp of Fox Lake; his daughter Amanda Knopp of Fox Lake; his aunt Evelyn Buckner of Spring Grove; and by his cousins and other relatives.
Friends of the family may call from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2002 at the K.K. HAMSHER FUNERAL HOME, LTD., 12 N. Pistakee Lake Road, Fox Lake (in the Chapel on the Lake). Funeral services will begin at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be private. Info: 847-587-2100.

Paul Kurath
Paul Kurath, 77, of Lake County, IL, died peacefully on March 17, 2002 at Victory Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Paul was born in St. Gallen, Switzerland on June 18, 1924.
Paul was a dedicated father and known for his strong intellect, love of nature, gardening, woodworking, photography, model trains and travel.
Paul was a PhD research chemist and made significant contributions in the field of chemistry during his 30 plus years with Abbott Laboratories. He also enjoyed a lifelong interest in Physics and astronomy. He was a member of various professional chemistry organizations and alumni associations.
Paul is survived by 5 children, Peter (Nancy) Kurath of Champaign, IL, Marcus Kurath of Waukegan, Robert (Jeri) with 2 grandchildren Dustin and Kylie Kurath of Gurnee, IL, George (Doreen) Kurath of Bristol, WI and Marian Kurath of Rutland, VT. Additionally his former spouse and mother of their 5 children Doris Kurath of Waukegan.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 22, 2002 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Lake Villa, IL. Interment will be private.
Friends may call at the MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF LINDENHURST, 1840 East Grand Avenue, Lindenhurst from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Friday only.
Memorials may be made in his name to either Victory Lakes Assisted Living in Lindenhurst or St. Jude's Childrens Hospital in Memphis, TN.

Edward C. Lawrenz
In loving memory of Edward C. Lawrenz, 66, of Mesa, Arizona who passed away at home on March 5, 2002.
Ed was born July 23, 1935 in Racine, Wisconsin. He moved to Waukegan, IL. He and his loving wife Marie (Johnson) retired to Mesa, Arizona where together they enjoyed fishing and being Green Bay Packer fans. His contagious smile will be missed.
Ed is survived by his wife Marie; his brother Al Hall; his aunt Connie (Ed) Michalski; 3 stepchildren Alan (Kelly) Johnson of Franklin, IN, Susan (Tom) Christopher-Verenski of Beach Park, IL and David (Jill) Johnson of Waukegan, IL; 10 loving grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
A memorial service was held in Mesa, Arizona on March 9, 2002.
