George Richard Register
George Richard Register, 89, died Saturday, September 4, 2004, in the Tippah County Hospital. Formerly of Libertyville, he was born August 19, 1915 in Le Sueur, MN to the late John LeRoy and Isabelle Register.
He worked for over 35 years at Hawthorn Farms, before retiring and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Etta, MS. He was married to Agnes Matkin Register, who preceded him in death February 22, 2003.
Mr Register is survived by a daughter, Diane Fox and husband, Mark of Ingleside, IL; three sons, Roy Register of Ecru, MS; Jerry Register and wife, Sandra of Albuquerque, NM and Daniel Register of Gurnee, IL; three grandchildren, Kelly and Tiffany Fox and Roberta Jones; and one great-grandchild, Tyler Jones.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, September 9, in the United Federal Service Chapel, with Brother Mark Jones, officiating. Interment will be at Glenfield Memorial Park.

Walter J. Short
Walter J. Short, 50, of Antioch, IL passed away Sunday, September 5, 2004 at St. Luke Hospital, Milwaukee, WI. He was born July 19, 1954 in Macomb, IL, the son of Adrian and Margaret Short, moving to Antioch in 1977. He worked as a Master Auto and Truck Technician for 29 years and was presently employed at the Wheels, Inc of Beach Park, IL. His hobbies included gardening, which he was well known for, fishing, boating and collecting Eagles and Hats. He was a fan of The Cubs, The Bears and NASCAR racing. On October 11, 1997, he married Mary DeMars in Waukegan, IL.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; his mother, Margaret Short; his children whom he loved dearly, Jessica (Chuck) Fuller, Christopher (Janet) Short, Jennette (Tom) O'Connor, Michael Martin, Debbie (John) Cline, William (Connie) Hennig, Erick (Anna) Johnson, Michelle Johnson, Jay (Christy) DeMars, Jousha DeMars and Christy DeMars. He was the grandfather of 28 and great grandfather of three. He was preceded in death by his father, Adrian.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM Saturday, September 11, 2004 at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Re. 83). Interment will be private. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 PM Friday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a family memorial.

Estie L. Varner
Estie L. Varner, a resident of Grayslake passed away Saturday, September 4, 2004 at the Wealshire in Lincolnshire, IL at the age of 88. He was born November 6, 1915 in Brainerd, MN and had been a resident of Lake County for 70 years. Estie was a graduate of Lake Forest College where he attained a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He was a retired employee of Abbott Laboratories where he worked for 34 years. Estie was a Past Master of the Rising Sun Masonic Lodge in Grayslake, a past president of the Avon School and Grayslake High School Boards, a member of the Grayslake Lions Club and a member of the United Protestant Church of Grayslake.
Estie is survived by his son, Richard (Yasuko) Varner; and his grandchildren, Leah and Matthew Varner. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ellen Varner; his wife of 52 years, Ruth (nee Cremin) Varner; and his son, James Varner.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 8, 2004 from 5 to 8 PM at the STRANG FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL, 60030. The funeral services will be held privately. Memorials may be made to the Wealshire, 150 Jamestown Lane, Lincolnshire, IL, 60069.

Zelia E. Griessler
Zelia E. Griessler, 93, of Lake Villa, IL passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2002 at the Community Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Naperville, IL.
She was born in France on February 23, 1909, the daughter of the late Clemance and Ernest Thery. She came to the United States in 1913, and settled in Livingston, IL. She was a resident of Lake Villa for over twenty years. Prior to that she lived in Round Lake. She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Lake Villa. She also was an active member of the Round Lake Senior Center. She enjoyed oil painting, crocheting, baking, square dancing and playing cards. She traveled extensively throughout the world.
She is survived by her children, Joseph (Arlene) Griessler of Batavia, IL and Janet Doucette of Antioch, IL; her grandchildren, Joseph, Suzanne, Glen, Pamela, Robin, Ronald, Roxanne, David, Deborah, John and Danielle; 21 great grandchildren; her sisters and brother, Ernestine Czechowski, Clemance Du Bart, and Louis Thery; several nieces and nephews, and a community of dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, on October 6, 1974, her daughter, Evelyn Schultz, and sister and brother, Eugenie Frey, and Ernest Thery.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 AM on Saturday, September 7, 2002 from RINGA FUNERAL HOME, 122 S. Rt. 83, Lake Villa, IL 60046, to Prince of Peace Church for a 10 AM Funeral Mass. Interment private. Visitation will be on Friday, 4-8 PM and Saturday 9 AM until the time of service. Memorials appreciated to the Pagets Foundation and may be sent directly to the Funeral Home.

Felipe O. Hinojosa
Felipe O. Hinojosa, 70, of Waukegan, passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2002 at St. Therese Medical Center. He was born August 21, 1932 in Los Herreras, N.L. Mexico and was a member of St. Joseph Church.
Survivors include his loving wife Margarita Hinojosa whom he wed on February 22, 1952; 11 children, Felipe Hinojosa Jr., Rita (Jaime) Enriquez, Margarita (Jose Luis) Ponce, Jose Guadalupe (Bertha) Hinojosa, Roberto Hinojosa, Ramiro (Jackie) Hinojosa, Zoila Sosa, Ernesto (Margaret) Hinojosa, Oziel (Colleen) Hinojosa, Hector (Rachel) Hinojosa, Cristina (Fernando) Perez; 34 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 4 brothers Horacio (Juanita) Hinojosa of Waukegan, Ernesto (Delia) Hinojosa of Texas, Claudio (Viviana) Hinojosa and Gustavo Hinojosa of Mexico; and many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Felipe and Rita Hinojosa and 2 brothers, Aristeo and Ursino.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 7, 2002 at Holy Family Church, 450 Keller Ave., Waukegan, with Father Gary Graff officiating. Burial will be at Ascension cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday and from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Saturday at MARSH FUNERAL HOME, 1521 Washington St., Waukegan.

Lillian A. Johnston
Lillian A. Johnston, 87, of Waukegan passed away on Wednesday September 4, 2002 at Victory Memorial Hospital. She was born September 8, 1914 in Waukegan and remained a lifelong resident. She was the beloved wife of Robert Johnston who passed away in 1967.
She is survived by her son, William "Biddy" Johnston (Diane); and her grandchildren, Kimberly (Russ) Garrett, Tina Johnston, Robert (Melissa) Johnston and William Johnston; also by 10 great grandchildren and numerous other family members and friends.
Friends may call at PETERSON-PATCH FUNERAL HOME, 408 N. Sheridan Rd., Waukegan on Saturday from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. Donations in Lillian's memory may be made to Vista Star Hospice, 2615 Washington St., Waukegan, IL 60085.

J. Norman Lindahl
J. Norman Lindahl, 94, of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin died on Thursday, September 5, 2002 at Kenosha Care Center.
He was born March 10, 1908 in Kenosha and resided in Kenosha and Pleasant Prairie all of his life. He worked at various jobs in the area, retiring in 1970 and he attended North Prairie United Methodist Church in Winthrop Harbor. He was also a member of the Kenosha Masonic Lodge, was a charter member of the Kenosha Country Conservation Club and he was a avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include two sons, Keith (Karen) Lindahl of Kenosha and Greg Lindahl of Lyons, CO; three grandchildren, Neal (Kimberly) Lindahl, Christine (Mark) Ball and Keith Lindahl; four great grandchildren Mark, Justin, Danny and David; and a brother Ralph (Gerri) Lindahl of Canon City, CO. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ester on April 23, 2002 and by his parents John and Stella Lindahl.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 9, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at North Prairie United Methodist Church, 5000 W. 9th Street, Winthrop Harbor with Pastor Gary Hougen officiating. Interment will follow at Oakdale cemetery, Newport Township, Zion, Illinois. Visitation will be Monday, from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at North Prairie United Methodist Church. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Association have been suggested. Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, in charge of arrangements.

Florence Poirier
Florence Poirier, 84, of Grayslake, passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2002 at Libertyville Manor. She was born December 24, 1917 and was a member of St. Gilbert Church.
Survivors include her son David (Dawne) Poirier; 4 brothers and sisters, Clem Blong of Cedar Rapids, IA, Rose Blong of Cedar Rapids, IA, Viola Schmelzer of Appleton, WI and Irvin (Marie) Blong; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Daniel in 1996 and her parents Clemence and Elizabeth Blong.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 9, 2002 at St. Gilbert Church in Grayslake. Burial will be at Ascension cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, September 8, 2002 and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF GURNEE, 305 cemetery Rd.

C. LeRoy Swanson
C. LeRoy Swanson, 89, of Waukegan, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2002 at the VA Medical Center in North Chicago. He was born June 28, 1913 in Waukegan and was a member of the First Christian Church. He had worked for the Chicago North Shore Railroad for 12 years and then went to work for the North Shore Sanitary District, retiring in 1984. He was a veteran of World War II having served with the U.S. Navy as a chief petty officer.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma; 1 son, Kenneth (Laura) Swanson; 2 grandchildren Magnus and Annika; 1 sister-in-law Dorothy Swanson, and 2 nephews, Richard L. and Roger Swanson, all of Manitowoc, WI. He was preceded in death by his brother Richard H. Swanson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 9, 2002 at First Christian Church, 6080 Gages Lake Rd., Gurnee. Burial will be at North Shore Garden of Memories. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF GURNEE, 305 cemetery Rd. Memorials may be given to First Christian Church Memorial Fund.

Devon William Bensel
Devon William Bensel, three months, of Great Lakes passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2004 at home. He was born May 28, 2004 in Libertyville.
He is survived by his parents, Shawn and Virginia Bensel; sister, Cheyenne Bensel all of Great Lakes; maternal grandparents, Cindy (Curt) Cowles of Navarre, FL, Charles (Nina) Crapps of Oxford, GA; paternal grandparents, Greg (Paula) Bensel of Yuma, AZ, Terry Sauceado of California. Devon is also survived by his great grandparents, William (Ruth) Hancock, Joyce (Lacy) Potter, Nancy Cowles, Ron (Oma) Cowles, Dean Crapps, Paul Larsen, Gordon (Barbara) Bensel; aunts and uncles, Charles (Elizabeth) Crapps, Haley Crapps, Matthew Crapps, Megan Sauceado, Shelley, Lecresia, Bow and many cousins.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at PETERSON & PATCH FUNERAL HOME, 408 N. Sheridan Rd., Waukegan from 12 Noon to 2 PM. Interment will be private..

Robert E. "Doc" Creel
Robert E. "Doc" Creel, 68, of Bristol, WI, formerly of Gurnee, IL, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2004 at home. He was born on August 7, 1936 in Cherokee, Iowa.
Doc had been a veterinarian in private practice in Iowa from 1960-1964 before going to Abbott Laboratories as a veterinarian at both the Abbott farm and pathology form 1964-1971.
After leaving Abbott, he became a Realtor with Poe & Poe Realtors in Waukegan before starting his own business with U.S. Development in Gurnee. Prior to retirement last year in August, Doc worked for the Illinois Tollway Authority. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1960, receiving his Doctorate in Veterinary Science.
Survivors include a son, Jeffrey (Cindy) Creel of Gurnee; a daughter, Jeri (Joe) Prybell also of Gurnee; two grandchildren, Jennifer Creel and Ethan Kofman; his former wife, Sandra Geudtner of Lake Forest, IL; as well as a brother, Allan Creel of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
He was preceded in death by a brother, James Creel; as well as his parents.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 8th from 4 to 8 PM. Funeral Services will be at 10 AM on Thursday at the SALATA-GURNEE FUNERAL HOME, 4190 Old Grand Ave, Gurnee.

Jill D. Dayton (nee Koopmans)
Jill D. (nee Koopmans) Dayton, 44, of Libertyville, IL died tragically and innocently from injuries sustained after her car was struck by an Illinois State Police cruiser involved in a high speed traffic chase in Macomb, IL on Saturday, September 4, 2004.
She was born April 29, 1960 in Grand Rapids, MI and had been a Libertyville residant since 1990. She was a graduate of Jenison High School in Michigan, the University of Michigan and received her Masters degree from Purdue University, specializing in Gifted and Talented Education. Jill gave so much of herself to others, serving as the secretary on the Board of Love, Inc. of Lake County and as an active volunteer at Copeland Elementary School and with MainStreet, Libertyville.
Jill was a loving wife and mother, who radiated joy and optimism to all those she ever met. and was a positive, life-affirming child of God. She was the Children's Pastor at Northwest Christian Community Church in Mundelein for the past six years. Most recently, she was the Gifted and Talented teacher in the third-fifth grades at Kipling Elementary School in Deerfield.
Jill was a passionate, lifelong teacher who believed in the fantastic potential of every child to learn beyond most people's expectations. She saw nothing more important than brining out the best in every child, every day, in every class she taught. Her death is a monumental loss to the many that she touched in her short life.
Surviving are her loving husband of 20 years, Dr. Brian Dayton; and daughters, Amanda, Emily and Danielle, all of Libertyville; her parents, Kenneth and Dolores Koopmans of Grand Rapids, MI; her sister, Elissa Koopmans Schwartz of Bloomfield Hills, MI; two brothers, Scott (Rhosie) Koopmans of San Jose, CA and Jack Koopmans of Grand Rapids.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Friday, September 10, 2004 at the First Presbyterian Church, Maple and Douglas Avenues, Libertyville with Pastor John Coleman officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeside cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 PM Thursday at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176), Libertyville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Northwest Community Church of Love, Inc. of Lake County in Jill's memory. The Dayton family thanks the First Presbyterian Church for the kind use of it's sanctuary on Friday.

Alverdah D. Helming
Alverdah D. Helming, 100 years of age, of Lake Bluff, IL, passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2004 at Westmoreland Nursing Center in Lake Forest. She was born on June 12, 1904 and was a lifelong resident of Lake Bluff.
She is survived by her sister, Leona Helming of Lake Bluff and cousins, Mary Lou Giannatto and Nancy Root.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Julia Helming.
She was employed by and retired from Commonwealth Edison.
A memorial service at the Union Church of Lake Bluff, which her parents helped to establish and where she was a lifelong member, will be held Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at 10:30 AM. Internment will be private. For service information, contact WENBAN FUNERAL HOME, Lake Forest.
