Vera L. Small
Vera L. Small, 86, of Libertyville, IL, passed away Fri. Nov. 19, 2004 at the Westmoreland Home in Lake Forest. She was born April 29, 1918 in Scottsburg, IN and had been a resident of Libertyville for most of her life. She was a graduate of St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago and was a veteran of US Army Nursing Corps, serving in Europe, Asia and Africa during WW II. Vera was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Libertyville, having served as a past president of the United Methodist Women and also very active with the Libertyville Girl Scout Program.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Sharon (Gilbert) Mitchell of McConnell, IL, Susan (John) McCormick of Grayslake; 3 grandchildren, Julia (Dan) Davis, Jennifer and Katie McCormick and a great granddaughter, Megan Davis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Irene Elliott, by her husband Earl B. Small on Oct. 27, 1996, by her grandchildren, Michael John Mitchell and Pamela Mitchell and her brother Ivan Elliott.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Sat. Nov. 27 at the United Methodist Church, 429 Brainerd Ave. Libertyville. Interment will be at Lakeside cemetery. Visitation will be from Noon until the time of service on Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to either the United Methodist Church or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in her memory. Arrangements are by the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME in Libertyville.

Robert L. Sutherland
Robert L. Sutherland, 74, of Evanston, IL passed away Saturday, November 20, 2004 at Evanston Hospital.
He was born May 3, 1930 in Paisley, Scotland and had lived in Waukegan, IL for 37 years prior to his move to Evanston in 1999. He was a retired medical technologist who had worked for 35 years at Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan. At the time of his retirement in 1994 he was Technical Director of the Clinical Laboratory,
He is survived by his daughter, Mary-Morag Sutherland of Evanston, IL.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nan T. Sutherland; his parents, Robert and Mary Sutherland; his brother, Ian (John) and his sisters, Marie Friday and Nan Bosner, all of Waukegan.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 26, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion. A visitation for friends and relatives will be held on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service. There will be a private cremation.

Henry Tewes, Jr.
Henry Tewes, Jr., 73, of Gurnee passed away suddenly and peacefully at his home on Sunday, November 21, 2004. He was born in Waukegan on March 4, 1931 to Henry and Gladys (nee Olsen) Tewes, Sr. He remained a lifelong area resident. From an early age he worked alongside his father in the family business, Tewes Co.
After graduation from Waukegan Township High School in 1948, he attended North West Missouri State University. He later served in the SeaBees. He owned and operated Tewes Co. for many years until his retirement.
He was a member of Glen Flora Country Club and the Waukegan Yacht Club. He served as an employer trustee of the pension, health and welfare fund of Teamsters Local 301 and on the board of directors at the Bank of Waukegan.
Henry is survived by his long time companion, Bette Peshut and several cousins and also the Ed Tewes family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Sr. and Gladys Tewes.
Friends may call at PETERSON & PATCH FUNERAL HOME, 408 N. Sheridan Rd., Waukegan on Tuesday, November 23, 2004 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. followed by a graveside service at Northshore Garden of Memories, North Chicago.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Henry's name may be made to the Gurnee Fire Department Paramedics.

Matthew A. Vedder
Matthew A. Vedder, of Round Lake Beach, infant son of Brian G. and Ronny V. (Daugherty) Vedder, Sr. passed away Saturday, November 20, 2004 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
Survivors include his parents; two brothers, Corey Allen Ryan and Brian Gary Vedder Jr.; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Cindy) Vedder of Round Lake Beach; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Gerda Vedder of Stuttgart, Germany; maternal great-grandmother, Edith Kontaxis of Round Lake Heights; six aunts, Nicoel Jewell of Round Lake Beach, Susan (Dennis) Robinson of Round Lake Park, Diane (Charles) Franklin of Round Lake Heights, Barbara (Wesley) Scholz of Round Lake Heights, Mary (Wade) Scholz of Round Lake Heights, Gloria (James) Anderson of Round Lake Beach; an uncle, Stephen (Gundla) Vedder of Germany; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Gary Vedder.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 24, 2004 from 5 to 7:30 PM with the funeral service at 6 PM with Rev. Lisle Kauffman officiating at the funeral home, 222 W. North Rosedale Court (at Cedar Lake Road), Round Lake, IL 60073. Inurnment will be private.

William A. Whittle
William H. Whittle, 88, of Lindenhurst, IL, formerly of Mt. Vernon, Virginia, passed away on Monday, November 22, 2004 at Victory Lakes Continuing Care Center, Lindenhurst, IL. He was born in Baltimore, MD on October 16, 1916, the son of the late William, Sr. and Alice (nee Kraeger). He was a resident of Lindenhurst for the past three years, having moved there from Mt. Vernon, Virginia and was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Antioch, IL. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. He retired from the Federal Aviation Administration after 53 years of service. He was inducted into the Virginia Aviation Hall of Fame in 1992. On March 4, 1941, he married Shirley Webb.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley; his daughter, Sharon (Larry) Olson of Antioch, IL; his grandchildren, Donald, Kimberley and Bradley; and his great grandson, Tyler. He was preceded in death by his brother, Phillip; and sisters, Helen, Elizabeth and Doris.

Albert leaves to cherish his precious memories and love to his wife of 31 years, Sherri Arlinda (Butler) Widermyre of North Chicago, IL; his son, Albert Spencer (Kyna) Widermyre, IV of Beach Park, IL; his daughters, Tianna Lei'Leese Ciara Dominique Widermyre of North Chicago, IL; his seven grandchildren, Dontre D. Widermyre, Alexzia R. Widermyre, Albert S. Widermyre V, Azaria E. Widermyre, Derek D. Sims, DaShane' T. Payne, and Dei'Leese D. Kelly James Barnes
Kelly James Barnes, 38, of Waukegan, joined our Lord on October 29, 2003 at home. Born in Kenosha, Wis on February 6, 1965, he was the son of Dr. William Barnes and Mary (Eder) Barnes.
He graduated from Waukegan High School and attended the special University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas.
Kelly enjoyed working outdoors and loved being a caddy at many of the golf clubs in the area. He also took a special interest in preparing delightful meals as well as maintaining the grounds for his parents.
Survivors include his two children, Kara Beth, 12 and Ethan James, 8 of Ashflat, Arkansas; parents Dr. William Barnes and Mary Barnes of Waukegan; two brothers, Cliff Barnes of Dubois, Wyoming and Dr. William Barnes, Jr. of Paducah, KY; two sisters, Julie Marin (Barnes) of Waukegan, Nancy Driver (Barnes) of Paducah, KY and a loving aunt, Martha Jocius of Wis. Local family includes Michael Barnes, Jessica Barnes, Carmin Marin and Terri Jocius.
He was preceded in death by a special aunt, Jeanette Kallio on May 11, 2003 of Wis.
Private services were held at the parents home on November 14, 2003.
Memorial funds may be donated to the Lake County Mental Health, atp 3012 Grand Ave. Waukegan, IL.

Elizabeth Kelley Beck
Elizabeth Kelley Beck, 98, of Waukegan passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2003 at her home. She was born December 25, 1904 in Somerville, MA and came to Waukegan along with her husband, Dr. Kenneth C. Beck in 1936. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Waukegan.
She is survived by her children, Katharine (Roger) Faulkner, W. Benjamin (Kathryn) Beck both of Lake Villa; grandchildren, Kerry, Kristine, Kimberly, Jonathan, Mark and David; and 11 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM in the Lady Chapel at Christ Episcopal Church, 410 Grand Ave, Waukegan Monday, November 24, 2003.
Friends may call from 10:15 AM until time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Elizabeth's memory may be made to your favorite charity.

John H. Campbell
John H. Campbell, 89, of Libertyville, IL, passed away Monday, November 17, 2003 at the Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. He was born December 28, 1913 in Detroit, MI, was a former resident of West Bloomfield, MI, living in Libertyville for the past six years. He was a 1931 graduate of Northwestern High School in Detroit and was a graduate of the Detroit College of Business. John was the former business manager for the Detroit YMCA and served as an accountant for Waterston's Machinery and Supply in Royal Oak. He was a member of the Holy Spirit Lutheran Church in West Bloomfield and attended the Evangelical Free Church in Libertyville.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Beatrice Campbell; and daughters, Laura (Michael) Johnston of Libertyville and Joyce (Kim Goldman) Campbell of Kempton, PA; two grandchildren, Jessica and Jane Johnston of Libertyville; and his sister, Betty (Bill) Maul of Redford, MI.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Lily Campbell; by his son, Jack in 1996; and also by four sisters and two brothers.
Interment services were held on Thursday, November 20 at the Grand Lawn cemetery in Detroit. A memorial service followed by a time of fellowship and light dinner will be held at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 25 at the Evangelical Free Church, Austin and Garfield Avenues in Libertyville. Memorial contributions can be made to either the Salvation Army or Evangelical Free Church in his memory. Arrangements are by the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME in Libertyville.

Mae Shell Gordon
Mae Shell Gordon, 91, died peacefully at her home in Waukegan on Tuesday, November 18, 2003. Mrs. Gordon was born on February 29, 1912 in McComb, MS to Emma and Charlie Johnson. She had been a resident of Waukegan since 1952.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was an active member of St. Phillips Lutheran Church in Jackson, MS until relocating to IL and then became a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waukegan. She retired from the VA Medical Center in North Chicago, IL in 1977 after 24 years of service as a nursing assistant.
She leaves to cherish her memory Mae (Levi) Hollins of Waukegan, Donna (James) Lott of Sacramento, CA, Emma and Wanda Patton of Milwaukee, WI, Lynn (Leroy) Jordan and Teresa (Robert) Wean of Gary, IN, Al Patton of St. Paul, MN. Also a special cousin Josie Johnson of Chicago and a special half brother Leon Felton of Chicago and a host of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a beloved husband (Bennie), her mother, father and three sisters and one brother.
Private service to be held at the family grave at North Shore Gardens. No visitation.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vista Star Hospice or a charity of choice.

Joseph P. Hirt
Joseph P. Hirt, 46, of Mundelein, IL, passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2003 at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born January 26, 1957 in Toledo, Ohio and was raised in Danville, IL. He was a 1975 graduate of Schlarnan High School in Danville and a 1979 graduate of the University of Illinois. Following college, joe served with the Peace Corps in Africa for two years, later returning for his masters degree in engineering management at Northwestern University.
Joe was currently the Director of Research and Development for the V. Mueller Division of the Cardinal Health Corporation. He was also a very active member of the Evangelical Free Church in Libertyville, where he served as a Christian Education leader with various Jr. High youth groups, organizing youth activities and mission trips.
Surviving are his wife, Jamie; and three daughters, Emily, Lucy and Polly Hirt, all of Mundelein; his father, John L. Hirt of Champaign; two sisters, Gretchen (Tom) Brown of Champaign and Molly (Scott) Arnold of Normal; four brothers, Tony (Peggy) Hirt of Grosse Pointe Shores, MI, Tom (Vanessa) Hirt and Jim Hirt, both of McKinney, TX, and Steve (Tamara) Hirt of Seattle, WA; his father and mother-in-law, Jim and Nell Bliler of Shelbyville, IL; brother-in-law, Scott (Terry) Bliler of Mundelein; and 16 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Kay Hirt.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Evangelical Free Church, Garfield and Austin Avenues, Libertyville. A private family graveside service will be held Monday morning at the Lakeside cemetery in Libertyville. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, November 24 at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Evangelical Free Church, 431 W. Austin Ave., Libertyville, IL 60048. Arrangements are by the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME in Libertyville.
