Jack Hofflander
Jack Hofflander died on November 19, 2003.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and May Hofflander.
He is survived by his sister, Rosemarie (Robert) Swerman of Gladstone, Missouri; his nephew, John (Laurie) Koskinen of Madison, Wisconsin; and his nieces, Barbara (Michael) Radovanovich of Springfield, Missouri, Constance Koskinen (Greg Schisla) of Atlanta, Georgia and Karla Koskinen (John Swindall) of Skokie, Illinois; six great nieces and nephews; and four great nieces.
Mr. Hofflander was born in Waukegan, Illinois and resided there until his entrance into the United States Army during World War II. Upon discharge from the Army, he resided in New York City for the remainder of his life, where he was a well-known artist and theatrical author.
Mr. Hofflander worked with the Waukegan Park District to establish the Jack Hofflander Wildflower Garden in Bowen Park. The family plans to have a memorial service for him in the Wildflower Garden in the Spring of 2004.

Virginia "Suzy" Hubbard
Virginia "Suzy" Hubbard, 76, of Grayslake, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2003 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. She was born in Buffalo, NY February 19, 1927, the daughter of the late H. James and Mary (nee Darr) Steele.
She has been a resident of Grayslake for over 65 years, and she is a member of the United Protestant Church in Grayslake. Suzy had been employed by the College of Lake County for over 34 years. She is known for being a wonderful mother, good friend, and an example of courage and compassion to all.
She is survived by her children, Kenneth (Maryanne) Hubbard of Hubbard Lake, MI, Kurt (Beverly) Hubbard of Grayslake, Lawrence (Yvonne) Hubbard of Grayslake and Mary (Richard) Slavik of Green Lake, WI; her nine grandchildren, Wendy of Waterford, MI, Seay of Boulder, CO, Jenny, Kate, Lauren, Keith, Mary and Stephanie of Grayslake and Amy of Mundelein. She is also survived by her brother in-law, David (Julie) Hubbard, her cousins Joseph (Pat), William (Jane) and John Brandsetter and many other relatives and dear friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Kenneth R. Hubbard and her sister, Bettye Henegar.
Funeral services at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at STRANG FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, LTD. 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL 60030. Interment at Avon Centre cemetery in Grayslake.
Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 24, 2003 at the funeral chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kenneth R. and Virginia (Suzy) Hubbard Scholarship through the College of Lake County Foundation, 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake, IL 60030.

Gerald G. Mieure
Gerald G. Mieure, 87, of Sumner, IL passed away November 19, 2003 at Lawrence Community Health Care in Bridgeport. He was born December 3, 1915 in Sumner, IL.
Mr. Mieure served in the U.S. Army as Major. He was a retired school teacher and a member of Union Chapel Church.
Survivors include his wife, Alberta (Beckett) Mieure of Sumner, IL; a son, Taylor (Julie) Mieure of Waukegan, IL; four brothers, Harold Mieure of Robinson, IL, Otis Mieure of Antioch, IL, Don (Judy) Mieure of Finley, OH, Eugene (Earlene) Mieure of Wellington, NV; four sisters, Elsie Pelham of Sumner, IL, Helen Grogan of Sumner, IL, Ruby Kimmel of Sumner, IL and Lois Provines of Lawrenceville, IL; a sister in-law, Helen Mieure of Sumner, IL; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Garl and Myrtle (Ruby) Mieure and four brothers. Funeral services will held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, IL.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at Glenwood cemetery in Shelbyville, IL.

Marjorie "Marge" Morgan
Marjorie "Marge" Morgan, 65, of Zion, died on Thursday, November 20, 2003 at the Midwestern Regional Medical Center in Zion. Marge was born October 2, 1938 in Carrollton, Mississippi and moved to Zion from Chicago in 1977. She married Walter Morgan in 1953 in Mississippi and retired from Cherry Electric in Waukegan in 1997 after 20 years of service. Marge was a former member of the Masonic Eastern Star. She will be greatly missed by her children and friends.
She is survived by three daughters, Terri (Dennis) Moore, Paula (Daniel) Cheeks and Annette Mitchell all of Zion; and a son, Norman Morgan of Indiana; eight grandchildren, Misti, Danny, Jamie, Krystal, Daniel, Tamara, Angelique and Sean; a great grandchild who lived with her, Haylee; and by 11 step great grandchildren; a brother, Paul (Ellen) Jones of Greenville, Miss; and sisters, Christine (Wade) Campbell of Greenwood, Miss, Mary (Preston) Wiltshire also of Greenwood, Miss and Ruby (Jimmy) Whitt of Greenville, Miss. Marge is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Vera Myers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter in 1997; by her mother and father, Paul and Loyce Jones; and by a sister, Francis Brock.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2003 at 3 PM at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion with Lay Minister Sue Harris officiating. Visitation will be from 1 PM until time of services at the funeral home. Interment will be private for the family.

Henry "Hank" Sluga
Henry "Hank" Sluga, 86, of Gurnee, Illinois died Friday, November 21, 2003 at his home in the company of his family. He was born June 9, 1917 in Waukegan, IL and was a resident of Gurnee for 30 years. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Force as Flight Instructor of the Flying Cadets. He had a Commercial Pilots License, was a graduate of W.T.H.S. He retired from Chicago Northwestern Railway Signal Department after 40 years of service. He was a life member of the Waukegan Federation of Musicians and an accomplished Accordion player and played in his band "The Golden Sounds" and was a member of Slovenian National Home, S.N.P.J. Sloga Lodge # 14.
Henry is survived by his wife of 59 years, Muriel; two sons, Thomas of Gurnee and Russell (Melinda) of Aurora, IL; a daughter, Julie Ann (Ronald) Thurber of Gurnee; and five grandchildren, Caleb Sluga, Michael, Amy, Lisa and Cindy Thurber. Also many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald; his parents, Frank and Mary; his brothers, Michael and Frank; his sisters, Stephanie Knoll, Mary Nord, Jennie Kutzler and Louise Graf.
Visitation will be Monday, November 24, 2003 from 11 AM until time of services at 1 PM at the GURNEE-SALATA FUNERAL HOME, 4190 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee. Interment will be at Highland Memorial cemetery, Libertyville.

Eleanor (Ellie) Spellman
Ellie Spellman passed away November 2, 2003 in Littleton, Colorado, of natural causes. Ellie was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, December 26, 1913.
As a young girl, she excelled in ice skate racing. She moved to Chicago and met her husband, Robert, at Diamond Lake, IL. They married on November 14, 1932. They then moved to Waukegan, IL, in 1951. Ellie was active in AA and Robert in Alanon. She had many friends and made a difference in many lives. When her husband retired in 1973, they moved to Hailey, Idaho, and then to Twin Falls, Idaho, in 1981. She was a member of St. Edwards Catholic Church and was active in the local senior citizens center. Robert died in 1995, and in 1996 Ellie moved to Littleton, Colorado. Ellie loved to sew to the delight of her children and grandchildren. She was known for her cooking expertise and always had a special tin of cookies for her grandchildren and visitors.
Ellie's door was always open. She has always been a kind and gentle person, and gave everyone unconditional love.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Sorensen of Carey, Idaho, Patricia Parsley of Littleton, Colorado; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A beautiful and much loved angel has left this earth a better place.
A funeral Mass was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Littleton, Colorado, and inurnment took place on November 21 at Sunset Memorial Park in Twin Falls, Idaho.

Jimmy Walker
A time to be born. Jimmy Walker was born July 5, 1923 into the union of Will Walker and Annie Lee Walker.
A time to grow. Jimmy confessed in Christ at an early age being a member at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Blytheville, Arkansas where he grew to be the man many loved and respected. The one who he married and loved, Mabel Walker and in this union they had seven children.
Later on in years, he met a special woman who he fell in love with and married , Willa Perry-Walker and in this union he also had a chance to love and be around Randall and Regina Perry.
A time to remember. All the good times and good things that made Jimmy touch so many hearts. Many remember him as a hard working man who worked and retired as a die-caster. And also worked part-time at Target, where he retired from on May 21, 2003. Work was just one of the many things he loved about life along with many friends and family members which he enjoyed being around. His laughter will be held in many hearts.
A time to die. Jesus gently took hold of his hand and led him home. He departed his time here Tuesday, November 18, 2003 at 12:22 p.m. where he entered into eternal life.
Jimmy leaves his indelible impact in the heart of his children; daughters, Marilyn S. Walker and Pamela L. Walker both of Bloomington, IL, Cynthia K. Bradley of University Park, IL, Jimetta Y. Walker of Gurnee, IL; a son, Donald Walker of Bloomington, IL; 23 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; two step-children, Regina Perry and Randall Perry; his three sisters, Ora Lee Hobbs, Rosa Perkins and Frankie Davis, all of South Bend, IN; a special friend, Willa Perry Walker of Chicago, IL; very special sister in-law, Lillian Pulliam and his cousin, Kim McCoy and a host of other relatives and friends. He will be missed, loved, but never forgotten. We love you Daddy.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Mabel Walker and sons, J.C. Rhodes and Steven Walker.
A Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Waukegan Community Church. 1016 Grand Ave., Waukegan, IL. Rev. Fred Obleton, Pastor with Rev. Robert Guice, Minister officiating. Interment at Oak Ridge cemetery, Hillside, IL.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.

Mamie V. Worthington
Mamie Valerie Worthington was born February 14, 1957 to James and Evertis Gilmore. She accepted the Lord in her life at an early age. She unexpectedly departed this life on Tuesday, November 18, 2003 in Houston, Texas. She was a graduate of Zion-Benton High School in Zion and attended colleges in Illinois and Texas. She was employed by the Port of Houston.
She leaves to continue celebrating her life her husband, William; three sons, Eric, Douglas and William Jr.; two daughters, Elouise (Israel) Burks and Karen Worthington; a grandson, Eric Jr.; three granddaughters, Ayesha, Tia and Isabelle; her father, James (Fannie) Gilmore; four sisters, Bertha (James) Oliver, Jeanell (Reggie) Hooker, Rita (Johnnie) Jones and Tonjia (Del) Yarbrough; six brothers, Roy (Tina) Gilmore, Raymond (Wanda) Gilmore, Eric Gilmore, Rodney (Rose) Gilmore, Alexis (Carolyn) Gilmore and Gregory (Tonya) Gilmore; a very special mother-in-law, Eloise Worthington; a special uncle and aunt, George and Gladys Fullilove; a very special sister-in-law, Michelle Haskins; a very special friend, Linda Cobb; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Evertis Gilmore; and a sister, Gracie Gilmore.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at 11 AM at Christian Faith Fellowship Church, 1727 27th Street, Zion, Illinois with Bishop Joseph Coburn Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10 AM until time of services at Christina Faith Fellowship Church. In charge of arrangements is the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, Zion.

Clarence R. Burns
Clarence R. Burns, 70, of Winthrop Harbor, died on Wednesday, November 17, 2004 at home, following a battle with cancer.
Clarence was born July 27, 1934 in Grand Junction, CO and came to this area in 1953, while serving in the U.S. Navy and stationed at Great Lakes. He retired in 1997, after 35 years with Danaher Controls in Gurnee, and was currently employed at Consumers Cooperative Credit Union of Waukegan. Clarence was also past president and member of the Winthrop Harbor School Board, past president and member of the Winthrop Harbor Lions Club, and he was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Survivors include his former wife, Jerri Burns of Winthrop Harbor; daughter, Terri Hudrick of Winthrop Harbor; son, Kevin (Patti) Burns of Winthrop Harbor; four grandchildren, Heather, Sean, Trevor and Brandon; two sisters, Beverly Campbell of Mesa, AZ and Dorleen (Wayne) Jensen of Salt Lake City, UT; and one brother, James (Lucille) Burns of Grand Junction, CO.
He was preceded in death by one brother, William Burns; one sister, Barbara Jean Minrich; and his parents, William and Clara Burns.
There will be no funeral service. The family will receive friends at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, on Monday, November 22, 2004, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM.
Memorial donations to the American Cancer Society have been suggested.

Helen Gibson
Helen Gibson, age 74, of Waukegan, IL went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 17, 2004.
She was born on December 25, 1929 in Atlanta, GA. Helen later moved to New York and worked for the New York Transit Authority until her retirement. She then relocated to IL to be with her family. Her favorite past times were playing bingo and reading.
Survivors include a son, Julius (Nancy) Cullen; a sister, Bessie Sanders; a nephew, Edward Sanders and grandchildren, Ashley, Dwayne and Michael Cullen.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Rosa Brown and a daughter, Brenda Tucker.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at the BRADSHAW & RANGE FUNERAL HOME, 2513 Dugdale Rd., Waukegan, IL. Rev. Floyd Rouse will officiate. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park cemetery, Zion, IL. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m.
