Weda Maureen Stewart
Weda Maureen Stewart passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2001 at her home after a two-year illness. She was born August 1, 1937 in Alabama and came to Zion, Illinois 50 years ago. She graduated from Zion-Benton High School and had been employed by Bicket Pharmacy, Fansteel Corporation in North Chicago and retired from Abbott Labs 2 years ago. She had been an active member of Lakeview Church and enjoyed working in the Awana program, Sunday School and singing in the church choir until retiring to Amory, Mississippi where she became a member of Meadowood Baptist Church. She was also a member of Women First, in Amory.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Kent Stewart, two sisters, Veda (Doyle) Neal of Meridian, and Shelia (Harmon) Hall of Amory and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter S. and Savoy Harris Jones.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, November 2 at 7:30 p.m. at Lakeview Church, 1821 Sheridan Road in Zion with Pastor Les Martin officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Lakeview Church.

Frances Vetrone
Frances Vetrone (nee Burkich), 80, of North Chicago, Illinois passed away Monday, October 29, 2001 at Winchester House in Libertyville.
She was born September 2, 1921 and was a lifelong resident of North Chicago. She graduated from Waukegan Township High School. She was a former member of North Chicago's Holy Family Church and now was a member of Queen of Peace, formerly Holy Rosary. She was a member of the Croation Fraternal Union, Lodge #848. Frances was very active in county and local politics, especially in the Republican party, but had many friends in the Democratic party. She served on the County Board, received awards from the Waukegan Park District, and served as a Red Cross volunteer Gray Lady for over ten years and was honored for her outstanding philanthropic and social endeavors. She was very active in the women's auxiliaries while her husband was in the Armed Forces. She and her husband traveled extensively during his lengthy military service.
Beside her great love and respect for her own country, she never forgot her Croation heritage. The Waukegan Croation Tamburitzens were always grateful seeing Frances and her husband at their special functions. Both of them owned and operated an antique shop for many years.
Frances is survived by her dear husband of 54 years, Col. Phil Vetrone and several cousins in Cincinnati. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Tom and Mary Burkich, her grandmother Helen Budiselich and her 2 brothers, Mike and George.
Family and friends will meet at 10:00 A.M. Friday, November 2, 2001 at Queen of Peace Church, 910-14th Street, North Chicago for Funeral Mass. Interment will follow at Ascension cemetery, Libertyville. Friends may call at PETERSON-PATCH FUNERAL HOME, 408 N. Sheridan Rd., Waukegan from 5 to 8 P.M. Thursday, November 1, 2001.

Mary Alice Williams
Mary Alice Williams, 87, of Waukegan, Illinois, died October 27, 2001. She was born on December 15, 1913 in Alexandria, Louisiana. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter Betty Batiste and son Charles Williams, five grandchildren Angle Batiste, Murphy Batiste, Brian Williams, Yana Sungar and Misty Williams, five great-grandchildren and friends.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM Friday, November 2, 2001 at Shiloh Baptist Church, 800 South Genesee Street, Waukegan. Burial will take place at North Shore Garden of Memories, North Chicago. Visitation will be from 10:00 - 11:00 AM Friday at the church. Arrangements entrusted to MARSH FUNERAL HOME.

Irene Ethel Cole Bell
Irene Ethel Cole Bell, 90, died peacefully at her home at Sunrise Assisted Living of Buffalo Grove, Illinois on Friday, October 10, 2003. She had struggled with Alzheimer's disease for over 10 years. Mrs. Bell was born July 5, 1913, in Chicago to Lulu (nee Browne) and John R. Cole.
She attended Chicago public schools and graduated from Lakeview High School in 1931. After attending Bryant & Stratton Business School, she worked as an executive secretary for the Nu-Enamel Co. where she met her husband, George R. Bell. In 1937, Irene married George in Chicago and spent the first year of their marriage in Cleveland, Ohio. They were married for 59 years when George died at age 84. In 1943, Mrs. Bell moved with her family to Glenview, Illinois, where they were active members of the Glenview Community Church until 1959 when they moved to Countryside Lake in Mundelein, Illinois. There she was an active member of the Ivanhoe Congregational Church. In 1994, she and her husband moved to Friendship Village Retirement Community in Schaumburg, Illinois. In 1998, she became a founding resident of Sunrise Assisted Living of Buffalo Grove. Mrs. Bell was first an extraordinary wife, homemaker, hostess and devoted mother and grandmother. She loved children dearly. She also cared for numerous horses, dogs, cats and birds. Mrs. Bell was a committed member of the choirs at both churches where she also participated in women's and couple's activities. She and her husband traveled widely and enjoyed dancing, golf and bowling over the years they shared together. She loved knitting and created many beautiful afghans for her family. Irene Bell was especially loved for her calm, loving personality.
Surviving Mrs. Bell are sons Robert (Ellen), George, Jr. (Patricia) and David (Susan) and daughters Susan (Richard) Williams, Linda (Craig) Backe and Nancy (Brian) Shepherd; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty one great-grandchildren; and her brother, John Cole of Highland Park.
Mrs. Bell was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be held on November 8, 2003, at 11:00 A.M. at the Ivanhoe Congregational Church, 21078 West Highway 176, Mundelein, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association or Ivanhoe Congregational Church.

Berenice Louise Blacker
Berenice Louise Blacker, 73, of Deerfield, IL passed away Friday, October 31, 2003 at her residence in Deerfield, IL. She was born September 9, 1930 in Highland Park, IL.
Berenice was active in the order of the Eastern Star and was a member of the Campbell Chapter #712 in Highland Park. In 1969-1971 she was the grand representative of West Virginia and the grand representative of Vermont from 1977-1978. In 1975 she was appointed the Grand Marshall for Illinois.
She is the mother to the late James Blacker, Jean (John) O'Brien, Debra (Arnold) Simmons, and Frank Blacker, Jr. Grandmother of Ivy (Marco) Manriquez, Jason Trexler, and Jennifer Blacker. Survived by her father Arthur Stem Jr. of Fort Wayne, IN, and one sister Delores Ditzenberger of Fort Wayne, IN. Great grandmother of Bilmer and Ryley Manriquez, and Gabby Trexler. Also survived by six step grandchildren and seven step great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Frank Blacker (September 9, 2003). She is also preceded in death by her mother Charlotta Callen and her sister Patty Bowland. She is an aunt to many. She is the longtime companion of her dog Pebbles.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday, November 3, 2003 with a 7 p.m. Eastern Star service at KELLEY AND SPALDING FUNERAL HOME, 1787 Deerfield Rd., Highland Park, IL. Funeral will be held Tuesday, November 4, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at Kelley and Spalding Funeral Home. Graveside service at Memory Gardens in Arlington Heights, IL.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Eastern Star Home Fund, 9890 Star Ln., P.O. Box 258, Mecon, IL 62544.

Marion Fiala (nee Kind)
Marion Fiala (nee Kind) passed away December 31, 2002 in Burien, WA. She was born in Manitowoc, WI on March 19, 1925 to Fred and Blanche Kind.
She is survived by her daughter, Marsha (Roy) Rasmussen of Federal Way, WA; grandchildren, Inger Rasmussen of Seattle, WA, Jon Rasmussen of Denver, CO, Jeremy Grazzini and Steven Grazzini of Chicago, IL; sisters, Evelyn (Ted) Shellberg of Racine, WI and Dorothy (Robert) Schildt of Arbor Vitae, WI; a brother, Charles (Susan) Kind of Racine, WI; and her former husband.
She was preceded in death by daughters, Susan Fiala in 1995, Jan Fiala Grazzini in 2001; sisters, Mildred Betz, Adeline Spencer; and a brother, Donald Kind. Her sister Elaine Kingsfield passed away in April 2003.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 7 at 11 AM at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 3319 Washington Avenue, Racine, WI, 53405, 262-634-2331.

Laurence H. Lang
Laurence H. Lang, 71, of Waukegan, died October 30, 2003 at Victory Hospital. He was born September 25, 1932 in Waukegan.
He was a member of the American Legion, Moose Lodge, local softball player for several teams including Schwerey's, played basketball for Barwell, Posners and various teams. Larry was an avid Bears fan. He loved to cook and spent time with his grandchildren. He retired after 40 years from EJ&E; Railroad.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Florine (Pastel); steparents, Milt (Hazel) Smith; son, David (Judy) Lang; daughter, Debi (Lance) Johnson; grandchildren, Aaron Milks, Crystal Lang, Keith Lang, Steven, Ryan, Brett Johnson, Randy & Robert Tock; and many loved nieces and nephews; and his best friend and brother he never had, Paul Saam. He had many friends he cherished.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2003 at Marsh Funeral Home of Waukegan, 1521 Washington St. Burial at North Shore Garden of Memories. Visitation at Marsh Funeral Home, 1521 Washington St., Waukegan on Tuesday, November 4, 2003 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and 9:30 a.m. Wednesday until time of service.

Genevieve A. Long
Genevieve A. Long, 68 years old of Ingleside, IL, passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2003 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL. She was in born Winnamac, IN, on August 16, 1935, the daughter of the late Mitchell Sr. and Sylvia (Kowlaski) Wydra.
She moved to Lake County in 1971 and has lived in Ingleside the past 18 years.
She is survived by her daughters, Lynda (Harry III) Schippers of Elgin, IL, and Laura (Cory) Hatton of Ingleside; one sister, Elaine (Burt) Minor of Rockford, IL; one brother, Robert (Leona) Wydra of Arlington Heights, IL. She was the grandmother of Kelly and Barbara Schippers; and the great grandmother of Devin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Robert Jr.; two brothers, Mitchell Jr. and Leonard Wydra; and one sister, Janet Wydra.
Funeral Services will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, November 3, 2003 at the Ringa Funeral Home, 122 S. Milwaukee Ave., Lake Villa, IL. Interment will be in Dundee Township cemetery in East Dundee, IL. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Gordon Meredith Cobb
Gordon Meredith Cobb, age 88, formerly of Libertyville, IL, died October 29, 2003 at Hilcrest Nursing Facility. He was born September 2, 1918 in Huntington, IN.
Gordon had many occupations, from the U.S. Army, milkman, logger, ice cream shop owner and insurance salesman, to name a few. Gordon retired from the U.S. Post Office (Deerfield) at the age of 65 in 1980. Gordon instilled the passion for travel and the outdoors in his children by traveling, camping and exploring nature throughout their childhood. He was a man ahead of his time by taking a hands-on roll in the raising of his children and his granddaughter, Julie, by cooking, shopping, and carpooling back in the '60s long before it was normal duty for a father. He and his beloved wife, Elizabeth, who preceded him, retired to Florida. Recently he relocated back to Lake County to spend the remainder of his time with us.
He is survived by his children, David (Sandra) Cobb, Gordon Jr., Barry (Liz) Cobb, Bruce (Lyn) Cobb, Carolyn Williams; seven grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.
Memorial Service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Monday, November 3, 2003 at Lord of Glory Church, Graylake.

Anton M. Suhadolnik
Anton M. Suhadolnik, 84, of Waukegan, Illinois died Friday, October 31, 2003 at Vista St. Therese Medical Center in Waukegan, IL.
He was born November 30, 1918 in North Chicago, IL and lived in Waukegan the last 75 years. He owned and operated Alloy Welding in Waukegan, IL and was a member of Queen of Peace Church and formerly Mother of God Church and a member of St. Joseph K.S.K.J. Lodge #53.
He is survived by his brother, Frank W. Suhadolnik of Beach Park, IL; a nephew, Roy Suhadolnik of Franklin, TN; and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Agnes; and a sister-in-law, Virginia Suhadolnik (nee Sneath) in 1998.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 AM on Monday, November 3, 2003 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 910-14th St., North Chicago, IL. Visitation will be followed by Mass at 10:30 AM. Burial will take place at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville.
Arrangements were entrusted to the SALATA FUNERAL HOME, 4190 Old Grand Ave, Gurnee, IL.

Leon E. Taylor
Leon E. Taylor, 69, of Beach Park passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, October 31, 2003 at Lake Forest Hospital. He was born on July 22, 1934 in Medford, Wisconsin.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife of 49 years, Carol (nee Bergman); his two devoted children, Barbara (Patrick McDermott) of Antioch and Mark (Julie) Taylor of Wadsworth; five grandchildren, Sean and Taylor McDermott and Jeffrey, Rebecca and Mark Taylor; along with two sisters, Pearl Warrens of Wildwood and Myrtle (Robert) Rosemeyer of Grayslake; and a brother.
He was preceded in death by a beloved son, Jeffrey in 1981; his parents, Frederick and Ella Taylor; three sisters, Elaine (Sidney) Ellis, Evelyn Keller and Dorothy Wendt; and two brothers, Floyd and Eugene.
Leon retired from Nielson and Son after 30 years of service. The pride and joy of his life were his grandchildren. He pursued woodworking as a craft and enjoyed creating unique and treasured keepsakes for them and other relatives and friends. Leon was also a retired farmer, an avid gardener, and loved being outdoors. He especially took pleasure in spending time at his summer home in Medford, Wisconsin, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and maintaining the grounds.
Visitation will be held at MARSH FUNERAL HOME IN GURNEE, 305 cemetery Rd, on Tuesday, November 4, 2003 from 5 to 9 PM. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, November 5 at 10 AM at Trinity United Lutheran Church, 658 Grand Avenue, Waukegan with Pastor Dennis Kelly officiating. Interment will follow at North Shore Garden of Memories.
