Ronald George Smelzer
Ronald George Smelzer, 65 of Salem, WI formerly of Libertyville, IL died Thursday in Lake Forest Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Ron was born August 28, 1938 in Richland Center, WI and grew up in Highland, WI, where he attended Highland high school. After high school he joined the US Army where he became airborne qualified and was stationed in Hawaii with the 173rd Airborne Division.
In 1965, he married Marjorie Kitsemble and took a managerial position for the Archdiocese of Chicago at St. Joseph Parish, Libertyville, IL. In 1999, Ron retired from that position and moved to Salem, WI. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter who was known to his friends as "One Shot".
Survived by his wife, Marge; his daughter, Michelle (Mark) Humbert of Mundelein; his grandchildren, Kyle and Kayla; his sister, Marlene (Bill) Brunckhorst of Whitewater, WI; his father-in-law, Merill Kitsemble; his niece, Jane and his nephews, Steven and Michael.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Cotherman and his nieces, Ann and Mary Brunckhorst.
Memorial services will be 8 p.m. Monday, March 15th at MCMURROUGH FUNERAL CHAPEL, 101 Park Place, Libertyville (Rt. 176 - 1 block East of Rt. 21). Visitation is on Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
There will also be a memorial service offered Saturday, March 20th at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Highland, WI. For funeral information, call (847) 362-2626.

John Svendsen, Jr.
John Svendsen, Jr., 83, of Newport Township and Zion, passed away on Wednesday, March 10, 2004 at the Sheridan Health Care Center in Zion.
John was born January 29, 1921 in Genoa City, WI. He married Ruth Russell in Zion on May 20, 1943. John was a member of the Christ Community Church in Zion and was also of the Brick and Stone Masons Union Local #20 of Waukegan, IL. He was a founding member of the Big Z Riding Club, a member of the Zion American Legion Post #865 and the Masons Waukegan Lodge #78. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the army in the 77th infantry, where he fought battles in the South Pacific; including Leyte, Mindanao, Guam and New Guinea.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; children, Linda (Pat) Callahan, Sandra (Antoon) de Bruyn, Judith Miller, John R. (Luanne) Svendsen and Terri Sue Cook; plus nine grandchildren, Tim (Angela) Callahan, Chris Callahan, Erick de Bruyn, Jordanna de Bruyn, Corrie and Casey Svendsen, Matt (Anna) Miller, Lukas and Megan Cook; two great granddaughters, Emerald and Faith Callahan; two brothers, Victor (Donna) Svendsen and Don (Stella) Svendsen; four sisters, Audrey Segner, Doris (Clem) Brabender, Alice (Jim) Clouse and Elsie (Gerry) McGath; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, John in 1953 and his mother Gladys in 1992; a daughter, Georgia Ruth; sister, Betty Svendsen, brother Wesley Svendsen and a grandson, Travis Miller.
Services will be held Saturday, March 13, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, with Pastor Jon Wiziarde of the Christ Community Church of Zion officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. George J. Thielmann
George J. Thielmann, 85, of Ocala, Fl, passed away on Saturday, March 6. Born in Chicago, IL, he moved to Florida in 1982 from Illinois. He was a retired traffic manager for Outboard Marine Corporation, Army Veteran of WWII, an avid golfer and international traveler and was in the Masonic Lodge in Naperville, IL.
He is survived by his son, Richard Fonda and his wife Meighan of Ocala, FL; sister, Lanelle Hammerschlag of Indiana; and cousins Donald and Marigene Kennedy of Gurnee, IL.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Thielmann, and sister, Lorriane White.

Pinkie Lee Williams
Pinkie Lee Williams, 92, was born December 30, 1911 in Alpine, AL to Rev. Booze and Deliah Garret. She passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2004. She joined St. Campbell Baptist Church at an early age, and later Ebenezer Baptist Church where she was a faithful choir member until she relocated to Waukegan, IL. At that time she joined the Shiloh Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. J.N. Lightfoot. Here she served in the Mission Department, and on the Mother's Board until her health failed.
Mrs. Pinkie loved to bake and share her baking with others. But most of all she loved the Lord and worshipped him through her harmonica. Her favorite songs were Amazing Grace and This Little Light of Mine.
Mrs. Pinkie was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. John G. Williams on December 29, 1933, and to this union nine children were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter; three brothers and three sisters.
Her family and friends will miss her dearly. She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Doris (John Sawyer) of San Antonio, TX, Vanessa (William Fraizer) and Gloria Yvonne of Talledega, AL; five sons, John (Odessa), Billy (Hazel), Benjamin (Patricia) of Waukegan, IL, Willie C. (Willie Pearl) of North Chicago, Charles (Cherlyn) of Houston, TX; 22 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; and a very dear friend, Mrs. Marjorie Ford.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 13, 2004 at Shiloh Baptist 800 South Genesee St., Waukegan, IL with Pastor Walstone E. Francis officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, IL. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. Saturday until time of service at the church. Betty Ann Koziel
Betty Ann Koziel, 71, of Lake Villa, IL passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 14, 2001 the result of an automobile accident.
She was born on August 7, 1929 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of the late Anne and Jerry Degen. On November 20, 1948 she married Richard J. Koziel. She was a resident of the Lake Villa/Lindenhurst area for 32 years and a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Lake Villa.
She is survived by her husband, Lt. Col. (Ret) Richard J. Koziel; her children, Richard, JR. (Judy), Suzanne Schumann, Jeffrey, Kathleen (David) Kelly, Lynda Mansoorian, Lisa (Robert) Bulow and Patricia (Kevin) Moore; her grandchildren, Melissa, Shayna, Degen Jacob, Megan, Anna, Emily, Cassie, Brenden, Jennifer, Matthew and Kaitlyn; her sisters and brother, Mary (Don) Pellegrini, Jack (Lynn) Degen, Kitty Smusyn and Barbara Novy. preceded in death by her brother, Jerry, Jr.; and grandson, Ryan Richard.

William F. Krueger
William F. Krueger, 93, of Vernon Hills, passed away Friday, June 15, 2001, at his home. He was born March 31, 1908 in Skokie, Illinois; was previously of the Prairie View area where he had been a life-long farmer, and has been a resident of Vernon Hills for the past two years. He had been married to his loving wife for 73 years.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia, two sons, Harold (Natalie) Krueger and Ronald (Joan) Krueger, all of Vernon Hills, and two sisters, Ruth Kruger of Waukegan and Louise Grothpietz of Des Plaines.

Robert Clark "Pete" Marthouse, Jr.
Robert Clark "Pete" Marthouse, Jr., 59 of Grayslake, passed away Friday, June 15, 2001 at his residence. He was born on July 20, 1941 in Johnston, PA, the son of Robert C. & Margaret (nee: Gingerich) Marthouse. On November 5, 1997 he married Barbara McDonald in Waukegan.
For 1960-1991 he served in the U.S. Navy, retiring with the rank of Lt. Commander, having served during the Viet Nam War. Then he became the Director of Community Development at the College of Lake County, Grayslake.
Survivors include his wife; Barbra of Grayslake; his mother; Margaret Marthouse of Silver Springs, MD; tow sons; Robert (Elvia) Marthouse III of Diamond Head, MS and David (Shannon) Marthouse of Durham, NH; two daughters; Christine (Craig) Nelson of Grayslake and Melissa Marthouse of Monroe Falls, OH; one step-daughter; Jessica Janca of Grayslake; one step-son; Jason (Heather) Bronner in Ohio; seven grandchildren; and two sisters; Nikki (Bob) Regan of Hilton Head, S.C. and Jodi (R.E.) Scully of Spotslyvania, VA.He was preceded in death by his father.

Edmund James McGrath
Edmund James McGrath, 82, of Waukegan, passed away Friday, June 15, 2001 at Vista Health Provena St. Therese medical Center in Waukegan. He was born on Sept. 24, 1918, in St. Peter, MN.; the son of Edmund and Hazel (nee Potts) McGrath. He worked as a manager at the Ammco Tools in North Chicago.
During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army in the European theater and Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of St. Gilbert Catholic Church in Grayslake. Among his hobbies were golfing, bowling, softball, pitching horseshoes and playing pool.
Survivors include one son, Thomas (Ellamae) McGrath of St. Louise, MO; two daughters, Patricia (Mike) Foster of Waukegan and Mary Kay (Gene) Smith of Hopkinsville, KY; one step-daughter Judy (Charles) Asp of Galena, IL; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, niece Debby (William) Otterson of Gurnee, and one sister Rosemary Volino of Sun City, AZ. He was preceded in death by his wife Violet who died May 8, 1996 and a grandson Gregory.

Irene E. O'Neal (nee: Durkin) 81, of Round Lake Park, formerly of Dolton, Illinois passed away Saturday, June 16, 2001 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Born July 5, 1919 in Chicago the daughter of the late; Frank Durkin and Arlene Buds. A resident of Round Lake Park the past 3 years. Irene retired in 1981 from the Jewel Food Stores where she was employed as a clerk. A Former member of St.. Mary's Catholic Church in Chicago, and member of A.A.R.P.
She leaves her daughter; Barbara (Vern) Lau of Round Lake Park; grandchildren; Diana (James) Verstege of Round Lake; Donald Lau of Round Lake; great grandchildren; Megan and Jacob Verstege. sister; Helen Grabowski of Park City.
She is preceded in death by her husband; Robert O'Neal in 1998.

Rose M. Shaulis
Rose M. Shaulis (nee Jappel), age 84, of Heather Ridge, Gurnee, Illinois passed away Friday, June 15, 2001 at Victory Lakes, Lindenhurst, Illinois.
She was born August 14, 1916 in Waukegan, Illinois and was a former member of Mother of God Church, but now was a member of St. Joseph Church in Libertyville. She owned and operated the Shaulis Bakery in Waukegan for 23 years and worked at the Lake County Map Department for 11 1/2 years. She was a member of St. Anne's KSKJ Lodge #127/.
She is survived by her son Peter (Pat) Shaulis of Fairfax, Virginia, two sisters, Victoria Merlock of North Chicago and Frances (Fritz) Jerina of Waukegan along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Peter in 1945, a sister Mary Cerpich and a brother Rudy Jappel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, June 19, 2001 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Libertyville, IL. with interment to follow at Ascension cemetery. Eliseo Trogi
Eliseo Trogi, age 63, of Highland Park passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2001 at Highland Park Hospital. Born January 29, 1938 in Piandelogotti, Modena, Italy and he has been a resident of Highland Park since 1960. He recently retired as a plumber with the H.T. Strenger Plumbing Company, Lake Bluff and he was a member of The Modenesa Society, Govani Italia, Cuore Arte Club, Highland Park Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 446, Highwood Bocce Ball Club, Laborers International Union #152 Highland Park and the Victoria Lodge, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Miriam nee: Carzoli; a son, Paul Trogi of Highland Park; two brothers Domenic (Tina) Trogi of Scottsdale, AZ, Arnold Trogi of Palatine; two sisters, Giuseppina (late Romano) Nozzoli of Florence, Italy, Maria (Luigi) Cardone of Inverness; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents, Ernesto Trogi on April 15, 1977 and Rosina Trogi on Oct 7, 1989.
Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 19, 2001 at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, Deerfield & Green Bay Roads, Highland Park. Kathleen A. Zamor
Kathleen A. Zamor, 48, of Round Lake Beach died June 15, 2001, at Condell Medical Center. She was born April 30, 1953 in Chicago, IL. She was a member of The Mobile Eye of the Greater Round Lake Area and several different committees at AllState Insurance Company in Vernon Hills.
She is survived by her fiance, John Kinzie; her brother, Robert (Nancy) Zamor of Libertyville and her sister Laura (David) Finch of Mundelein; her nieces and nephews: Sara, Joshua, Zachary, Rebecca, Victoria, Kathryn and one great nephew Christopher.
Visitation is 4 to 9 p.m. today at the KRISTAN FUNERAL HOME, 219 W. Maple (Rt. 176) Mundelein. Mass of Christian burial is 10 a.m. Tuesday at Santa Maria del Popolo Church. Interment will follow in Ascension cemetery, Libertyville.

Anna Marie Cankar
Anna Marie Cankar, age 57, of Lake Villa, IL passed away at her home on June 13, 2002.
She was born in Waukegan, IL, on June 19, 1944, the daughter of the late Evelyn and Aloysius Elfering. On September 29, 1974 she married Richard Cankar. She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Lake Villa. She was a registered nurse and retired from St. Therese Hospital and S.T.A.T.S. after 33 years of service.
She is survived by her husband, Richard; her daughter, Deanna Cankar of Lake Villa and son, Jeffrey Cankar of Lake Villa; her brothers and sister, Aloysius (Lucille) Elfering, Lidwina (Irv) Hertel, Francis (Diane) Elfering, Joseph (Patricia) Elfering and Edward (Sharon) Elfering. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 18, 2002 from RINGA FUNERAL HOME, 122 S. Rte. 83, Lake Villa, IL 60046, to Prince of Peace Church for a 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass. Gladys Chapman (nee Hofflander)
Gladys L. Chapman, age 85, went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 10, 2002. She had been at the Pinnacle Health Care for several months and passed away at St. Therese Hospital. She was born December 21, 1916 in Lake Forest where she resided most of her life. She graduated from Gorton School and Deerfield Shields High School before moving to Waukegan. She lived an exemplary life, telling everyone she came in contact with about Jesus, trying to make a difference, and it was her hope all will join her in Heaven some day. She was a member of the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church in Waukegan since age 7 where she became a Sunday School teacher and was involved with the missionary department for many years. She would hold children's Bible story hour in her home and would canvass the neighborhood for children to attend her story hour and Daily Vacation Bible School. She tried to help many in need of encouragement both physically and spiritually. She was also involved with out-reach gospel work for over ten years in southern Illinois.
Gladys is survived by her loving family: two daughters Carol (Peter) Mockapetris of Beach Park and Faith Newyear of Gurnee; grandchildren Kimberly (Mike) Vagnoni of Lindenhurst, Dennis (Cheryl) Dostalek of Zion, Don Umphryes, Jr. of Gurnee, Dawn (Angelo) Fiorella of Kenner, Louisiana, and Peter (Leanne) Mockapetris, Jr. of Oswego, Illinois. She also is survived by great-grandson Dominick Fiorella and step-great-grandchildren Peter and Brittaney Fiorella and Tanya and Alyssa Loonsfoot. Her brother Charles (Marie) Hofflander of Wadsworth and sister Vivian (James) Burton of LaJolla, California also survive her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Anne Hofflander, a brother Vincent Hofflander, a sister Caroline Gardiner, and also a great-grandchild Daniel Dostalek.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 15 at 10:00 a.m. at MARSH FUNERAL HOME, 1521 Washington Street, Waukegan with burial at Northshore Garden of Memories in North Chicago. Visitation will be Friday, June 14 at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Saturday before the funeral. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Faith Home Ministry, 2736 Eschol Ave., Zion, IL 60099, designating missions.

Judith Meadows Davis
Judith Meadows Davis, 58 of Waukegan, a prominent and respected chef and consultant in the area died Tuesday, June 11, 2002 at Rush Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago. Judi was born at Melrose Park Hospital August 1, 1943 and graduated from Palatine High School in 1962. Judi spent most of her adult life in the Waukegan area raising her family.
Judi was a chef at the Rustic Manor for 15 years as well as a chef at Mickey Finn's in Libertyville, The Hobson House in Long Grove and The Cabriolet in Libertyville. Judi also acted as a consultant for many upscale restaurants in the area. Judi was a charter member of the Lioness Club of Wadsworth, Illinois.
Judi loved her children Jacque Lyons (Clay) and Jamie Meadows (Cheryl) and her grandchildren, Timothy Needham and Lindsey Lyons and received a great deal of joy from them as she watched her children raise their children. In addition to her children and grandchildren, she is survived by her husband Joe Davis and a stepdaughter, Amanda Barron and her three children.
Judi was the oldest child of John and Beatrice (Bove) Nielsen. Surviving siblings include Jeanette Armbrust of Batavia, Joyce Hansen of Geneva, Jessica Leathers of Batavia, John Nielsen of Sycamore, Joanne Buckley of Geneva, Jeff Nielsen of Sycamore and Jeryl Butler of Sycamore, a close aunt and uncle, Roberta and Garth Barrett of Palatine. In addition Judi is survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father John Nielsen and her first husband Jack Meadows.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2002 at PETERSON-PATCH FUNERAL HOME, 408 N. Sheridan Rd., Waukegan. Interment will be at St. Mary's cemetery in Waukegan. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, June 14, 2002 from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to Regional Organ Bank of Illinois, 660 North Industrial Dr., Elmhurst, IL 60126.

Florence K. Dooley
Florence K. Dooley, 78, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2002 at her daughters home. Formerly of Highland Park, Florence lived in West Palm Beach, Florida for the last 20 years. She was born March 5, 1924 in Highland Park and was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in West Palm Beach.
Survivors include her 2 children Patrick (Mary) Harrison of Plymouth, MN and Nancy (Jon) Alaimo of Ingleside; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and 2 brothers Bernard (Darlene) Siegele and James (Patty) Siegele. She was preceded in death by her first husband Alan Harrison; her second husband Thomas Dooley; and 2 children Carol and Michael Harrison.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2002 at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF LINDENHURST, 1840 E. Grand Ave. with Father James Merold officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 16th at the funeral home.
