Marcella A. Roberts
Marcella A. Roberts, 71, of Waukegan passed away November 11, 2004 at Kindred Hospital, Waukegan.
She was born March 1, 1933 in Dodge Center, MN. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, was a member of A.A.R.P., loved country music, square dancing and was a long time Girl Scout Leader. She was a retired government employee.
Survived by four children, Harry (Patricia) Roberts, David (Wendi) Roberts, Debra (Richard) Myslinski and Steven (Susie) Roberts; grandmother of 11, Jennifer and Kevin Roberts, Eric (Kimberly) Roberts, Christopher Roberts, Keely, Calla and Emily Myslinski, Steven Scott Statie and Katie Roberts; a brother, Lawrence Woolison; two sisters,Adeline Hartenek and Tillie Madsen; and many nieces and nephews. preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Woolison and Louise Penca.
Funeral services will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, 508 Grand Ave, Waukegan, IL tentatively scheduled for Monday, time to be announced. Burial will be in Ascension cemetery, Libertyville.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM Sunday, November 14, 2004 in the MARSH FUNERAL HOME, 1521 Washington St., Waukegan, IL.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

V. Jean Scott
V. Jean Scott, 67 of Beach Park, died Monday, November 8, 2004, at home.
Jean was born March 13, 1937 in Cave in Rock, Illinois and was a former resident of Winthorp Harbor, IL. She moved to this area 4 years ago after residing in Florida for 17 years. Jean worked for Cherry Electric in Waukegan for many years, and retired from the General Electric Corporation in Daytona Beach, Florida. She was a member of the Women of the Moose (in Zion and Florida), a member of Eastern Star, and of the VFW, Jean was an avid NASCAR and Chicago Bears fan.
Survivors include three children, Ronald K. Davis of Kenosha WI, Michael E. (Carla) Davis of Beach Park, IL and Sheila (Andy) Burton of Gurnee, IL; five grandchildren, Ryan, Jennifer, Sheri, Tim and Brandon; seven great-grandchildren, Micaela, Dakota, Tyler, Ashlyn, Kylie, Jonathan, and Harley; a brother William (Peggy) Schreiber of Tacoma Washington, and two nieces, Patricia and Christina Schreiber.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Clifton Baylous and Iva Schreiber, and her husband, Bennie Scott in 1988.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 12, 2004, at 7:00 p.m. at CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Rd, Zion, with Rev. Jeffrey Koth of St. Mark's Lutheran Church of Waukegan officiating. Interment will be Monday, November 15, 2004, at Oakdale cemetery in Deland, Florida. Visitation will be Friday, November 12, 2004 from 5:00 p.m. until the time of services at the Funeral Home.

Gerrie Simmons
Gerrie Simmons, 77, of Monterey, CA, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Katherine Healthcare Center in Salinas, CA on November 3, 2004, after a brief illness.
Born Geraldine Ann Truax on August 23, 1927 at Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan, IL, Gerrie was a 1945 graduate of Waukegan Township High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Loren, in 1946 and the couple settled in Waukegan after Loren's tour of duty in the Marine Corps. Gerrie raised their three children, devoted time to organizations such as the Junior League and the March of Dimes and worked in the Waukegan school system in early childhood education and development.
In 1979, the couple moved to Salinas, CA where Gerrie thrived by volunteering at Steinbeck House. She also loved playing cards, doing crossword puzzles, and entertaining friends. Her gift for bringing family and friends together brought joy to every neighborhood she lived in, from Forest Lane to Oak Hills to Markham Ranch.
She was preceded in death by her father, Phillip Truax, in 1970; and her mother, Madesse Ames Truax Gust, in 1990. She is survived by her husband, Loren; her son Cory (Barbara) Simmons of Concord, CA; her daughters Kelly Simmons (Jay Bolling) of Rosemont, PA, and Kristy Simmons of San Jose, CA; five grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and Peter Radovanovich of Neenah, WI-a classmate of Cory Simmons and longtime family friend who considered Gerrie to be his second mother.
A private memorial celebration is planned for Thanksgiving Week in the rolling California hills Gerrie loved. The family would like to acknowledge the staff at Katherine Healthcare Center, 315 Alameda St, Salinas, CA 93901, who provided such loving care in Gerrie's final days. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to that center's Resident Activity Fund or to your favorite charity.

James Allen Bryant
James Allen Bryant, 59, of Waukegan died on Thursday, November 10, 2005 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
James was born August 14, 1946 in Waukegan, and was a graduate of Zion-Benton Township High School. He married Gloria Chavez on August 12, 1968 in El Paso, TX. James worked as a machinist at Johnson Motors for 17 years, and also worked with his son as a Mortgage Consultant. James was also a supply Sargent for the U.S. Army for 17 years. He was a beloved husband, loving father and a friend to many.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria; four children, Nora (Gustavo Chavez) Bryant of Lake Villa, Michael Allen (Gina) Bryant of Aurora, IL, Phillip James Bryant of Grayslake, IL and Nancy Bryant of Beach Park; two grandchildren, Kara Lynn Bryant and Michael James Bryant; brother, William (Joyce) Bryant of Wadsworth, IL; sister, Margie Bushing of Florida, and brothers, Paul (Ara) Bryant and Rowland Bryant, both of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Willard H. and Nora E. Bryant; and a brother, Michael Bryant.
Graveside Services will be held Monday, November 14, 2005 at 10:30 AM at Pineview Memorial Park, 10750 W. Beach Road, Beach Park.

Lucille K. Cope
Lucille "Kay" Cope, January 20, 1907 - November 9, 2005, age 98, passed away peacefully at the Presbyterian Home in Evanston, Illinois on November 9.
Kay graduated from Waller High School in Chicago and attended Northwestern University. She lived in her Evanston, Illinois home for over 55 years prior to moving into the Presbyterian Home in 1992.
She was preceded in death by her only brother, Lt. Joseph Kettle, who died in action in 1944, during the battle of Leyte Gulf, while serving with the Navy aboard the DE Abner Reed; grandson, John Kendall Cope in 1982; her husband, Maurice in 1981. Kay and Maurie were married at Little Point Sable in Michigan on June 25, 1929, where she currently has a summer home.
She is survived by her two sons, Dr. David Cope of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Peter Cope of Lake Bluff, Illinois; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in early December in the Elliot Chapel of the Presbyterian Home, the date has yet to be scheduled. A memorial service will also be held next summer at the Little Point Sable Church, with burial at the family plot in the Little Point Sable cemetery. Shirley Lynn Courtright
Shirley Lynn Courtright, 67, of Salem, Wisconsin, died on Sunday, November 6, 2005 at Aurora Medical Center in Kenosha.
Shirley was born November 1, 1938 in Palatine, Illinois and had lived most of her life in Wadsworth, Illinois, moving to Salem five years ago. She was employed for the past twenty years with Kelly's Sanitary Service in Wadsworth. She had a wonderful life devoted to her daughter, family and friends.
Survivors include her daughter, Heidi (Keith Stich) Courtright of Salem, Wisconsin; one grandson, Steven Keith Lidbloom, age two, also of Salem; two sisters, Fern Akins of Zion and Lou (Edward) Parks of Winthrop Harbor; one brother, Kenneth (Mary) Johnson of Friendship, Wisconsin; and dearest friends, Edith "Tudy" Cain, Nancy Nystrom and Jim Nottingham.
She was preceded in death by three brothers; two sisters; and her parents George and Margaret Johnson.
A memorial gathering of family and friends, coming together to celebrate Shirley's life, will be held at the home of her sister, Fern Akins, 915 20th St, Zion, on Monday, November 14 from 10:00 until 2:00 p.m. with interment following at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park in Zion. In lieu of sending flowers, memorial donations to the family have been requested.

Attorney Tom Davis
Attorney Tom Davis, 63, of Zion, died suddenly on Thursday, November 10, 2005 at St. Catherine's Hospital in Kenosha.
Tom was born October 10, 1942 in Miami, FL. After graduation from Florida State University with a degree in Education, he came to Zion in 1968 to teach Senior Government, and coached baseball for 11 years all at Zion-Benton Township High School. He then attended and graduated from Northeastern Illinois University, where he received his Masters in History. Later he graduated from John Marshall Law School in Chicago and in 1978 he opened his own law practice in Zion, operating until the present time.
He attended Hope Presbyterian Church in Grayslake and was a longtime member of Christ Community Church of Zion, where he was involved for years in the Zion Passion Play as a cast member, and where he served as an Usher and taught Sunday School. His other interests included bowling, softball, golfing, and his family. Also, for many years he was heavily involved in raising and showing dairy goats for competition.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Lynne; children Erin (Ryan) Rowe of Valparaiso, FL, Ed (Valerie) Davis of Spring Grove, IL, and Leslie Davis of Antioch; two grandchildren,Jason Davis and Ethan Rowe; and two brothers, Jim (Rosemary) Davis of Port St. Lucie, FL and Frank (Margie) Davis of Flat Rock, NC.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Edward and Sara Davis.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 15, 2005, from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 16th, at 10:30 AM at Christ Community Church, 2500 Dowie Memorial Drive, Zion. Interment will follow at Hickory Union cemetery, Antioch, IL.

Julio Gerardo Gaitan
Julio Gerardo Gaitan, 42, a former resident of Zion, passed away suddenly Thursday, November 10, 2005 in Coral Gables, FL. He was born November 14, 1962 in Managua, Nicaragua and came to live in the USA in 1979. Having to learn English immediately, Julio was still able to graduate with honors from Zion-Benton High School in 1981. He went on to receive his bachelors degree from Barat College in Lake Forest and his Masters in Business Administration from Loyola University in Chicago.
Julio taught Spanish and Accounting at St. Augustine College in Chicago and this past year was working in the healthcare industry while helping to take care of his father in Miami. He had been a very active member of Holy Family Parish in Waukegan and often volunteered, helping member of AA, the homeless and providing food to the hungry in Lake County.
Surviving are is father, Wilfredo B. Gaitan of Miami, FL; eight brothers and sisters, Wilfredo J. Gaitan of Green Oaks, Denis (Mildred) Gaitan of Miami, Maria Gaitan, Rosa Gaitan and Nadine Kilpatrick, all of Libertyville, Hector (Cecilia) Gaitan of San Juan, P.R., Miguel (Tyra) Gaitan of Kenosha, WI, and Alejandro Gaitan of Chicago. Julio had a deep and sincere love for his family, his former wife Melba and his nieces and nephews, whom he touched profoundly.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Maxima C. Gaitan in 1999.
Prayers will begin at 9 AM Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave (Rt. 176), Libertyville and services will continue to Holy Family Church, 450 Keller Ave, Waukegan for Funeral Mass at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Ascension cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 PM on Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to Divine Providence, to help abandonedchildren in Nicaragua. .

Joyce B. Garrett
Joyce B. Garrett, age 67, of Zion, IL, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2005 at the Midwestern Regional Medical Center, Zion, IL. She was born June 1, 1938 in Waukegan, IL, and has been a resident of Zion and Waukegan all her life.
Joyce is survived by her daughter, Terri (Jim) Crawford of Wildwood, IL; three grandchildren, Andrew Rommel Crawford and Joshua Scanlan, both of Wildwood, IL, and Amber-Lynn Scanlan of Bakersfield, CA.
preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Miskovich; and brother, Edgar Garrett.
Memorial gathering for Joyce Garrett and Margaret Miskovich will be held 1 to 2 PM Saturday, November 19, 2005 at the SYMONDS LAKES FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 111 W. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL 60030. Interment private.

Barbara "Barbie" R. Merrick (nee Bellei)
Age 41 of Morrisonville, IL, died at 10:56 a.m. on Monday, October 31 in St. Vincent Memorial Hospital. She was born August 15, 1964 in Zion, IL, the daughter of Thomas and Doris Oller Buck.
Barbara graduated from Round Lake Senior High School in 1982. She served in the U.S. Army and was recently employed as a Correctional Officer at Graham Correctional Center in Hillsboro, IL.
Surviving are her mother, of Taylorville, IL; a son, William "Billy" Merrick of Taylorville; a daughter, Jennifer "Jenny" Merrick of Morrisonville, IL; sisters, Danita Petroski of MN, Donna Chamberlin of DeKalb, IL, Nylene Wilson of Seymour, IN and Diane Smith of Park City; four nieces; three nephews; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
preceded in death by her father; grandparents; two uncles; one aunt; and one cousin.
Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m Saturday, November 5 in Shafer Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Wamsley officiating and Honor Guard from the Graham Correctional Center standing at the casket. Cremation rites were held. Memorials in her name can be sent to The Christian County Humane Society, Taylorville, IL.
