Peter "Pete" Michael Kukla I
Peter "Pete" Michael Kukla I, age 53, a resident of Antioch, Illinois, for over 25 years, and former Fox Lake and West Lake County resident all his life, died on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at his home after a heroic battle with cancer.
He graduated from Shady Lane Grade School and Grant Community High School, class of 1970 where he was a member of the wrestling team his freshman year. Peter enjoyed boating with his family on the Chain O'Lakes, was an avid Bears and Cubs fan, and loved his family and visiting with his friends up north, especially his dear friend, Doyle Wedge.
He served his plumbing apprenticeship in Waukegan and had worked for the Plumbers Union Local #93 out of Volo, IL (formerly of Waukegan) for 35 years. He was initiated into Plumbers Local Union 93 on July 1973 and completed a four year Apprenticeship Training Program regulated by the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, administered by Plumbers Local Union 93. He worked throughout Lake & McHenry Counties during the course of his 33-year career in the Plumbing Industry.
He is survived by his sons, Peter Michael "Mikey" Kukla II of Lakemoor, Andrew "Andy" (Kris) Harrington Kukla of Ingleside; his loving soulmate whom he shared his life with, Suzi Szezepaniak of Antioch; his brother, Joseph (Nanci) Kukla of Richmond; his sisters, Terri (Klaus) Malenke of Camarillo, CA, and Kristine (Charles "Chuck") Pratt of Tierra Verde, FL; his nieces and nephews, Rachel Pratt of Tierra Verde, FL, Heather Malenke of Camarillo, CA, and Jeffrey and Joey Kukla, both of Richmond; his aunts, Donna Clark of Mayville, WI, and Helen Rittner of Land O'Lakes, FL; and his many, many friends especially his longtime friends, Anne Conroyd of Fox Lake and her sister, Michele Kisten of Lake Villa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore "Nick" Kukla on September 5, 1994 and Edith "Edie" M. (nee Baldwin) Kukla on November 18, 1998; and by his uncle, Jack Baldwin; and his grandmother, Marti Baldwin.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 11, 2005 from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at K.K. HAMSHER FUNERAL HOME, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd., Fox Lake (1 block west of Rte. 12, 1/2 block north of Grand). A Funeral service will be held Saturday, November 12 at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Grant cemetery in Ingleside, Illinois.

August P. Mancuso, 81, of Elmwood Ave., Lake Geneva, WI, died Tuesday, November 8, 2005 at the Pinecrest Assisted Living Facility, Lake Geneva. August was born November 7, 1924 in Chicago, IL, the son of Nicholas and Anna Delisi Mancuso.
August united in marriage to Nancy M. Ellis, September 17, 1960 in Chicago, IL. Former member of the Antioch, IL Lyons Club. Former owner of the Mancuso Standard Oil Station, Antioch, IL. WWII Army Air Corps. Veteran.
Surviving is his wife, Nancy, Lake Geneva; daughter, Dawn Marie (Jesse) Jacobs, Lake Geneva; sons, James (Kimberly) Mancuso, Bartlett, IL; and August P. (Kerry) Mancuso, Jr., Wheaton, IL; 11 grandchildren; sister, Rosann Lynn, Forest, MS and James (Delores) Mancuso, Chicago, IL; and sister-in-law, Marie Mancuso, Chicago, IL.
preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joseph Mancuso.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, November 12, 2005 at the Steinke Funeral Home, Lake Geneva with Deacon Ted Jennings officiating. Burial in the Oak Hill cemetery, Lake Geneva with full military rites conducted by the Elkhorn American Legion Post #45, Elkhorn, WI and the VFW Post #6375 of Elkhorn, WI. Visitation will he held from 11:00 AM to time of services.

Louis A. "Lou" Piller, Jr.
Louis A. "Lou" Piller, Jr., 87, of Antioch, IL passed away Saturday, November 5, 2005 at Victory Lakes Continuing Care Center, Lindenhurst, IL. He was born February 5, 1918 in Chicago, the son of the late Louis A. and Anna Princ Piller, moving to Antioch in 1977. Lou served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He attended OCS and was a Captain in ordinance serving in the Pacific Theatre of Okinawa and Japan. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 4551 in Antioch and was instrumental in the purchasing of their present building. Lou was a graduate of the University of Illinois and had taught school in West Virginia before working for many years in the family business, manufacturing color cards for the paint industry. He was a member of St. Peter Church, the A.A.R.P. and a past president of the Sunset Ridge Subdivision where he lived. His many interests included fishing, reading, gardening, traveling and being with his family.
On September 4, 1948, he married Eleanore M. Zeaman in Blessed Agnes Church in Chicago.
Survivors include his wife of over 58 years, Eleanore; his daughter, JoAnn (Dan) Blough of Gaylord, MI; his son, Daniel (Jeanne) Piller of Arlington Heights, IL; three grandchildren, Christopher (Keri) Blough of South Lyon, MI, Anne (Aaron) Ruppert of Winona, MN and John Piller of Madison, WI; his sister-in-law, Mary Piller of Chicago; a niece, Judy (Dennis) McGinley of Mt. Prospect, IL; a grandniece, Caryn; and grandnephew, Ross. He was preceded in death by his brother, George.
Memorial Funeral Services with Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM Saturday, November 12, 2005 at St. Peter Church, 557 Lake Street, Antioch, with visitation at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel cemetery in Antioch. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association in his memory. Arrangements are entrusted to the STRANG FUNERAL

David S. Quinn
1965-2005
David S. "Sully" Quinn, 40, died on November 1 at his home in Grayslake after a lengthy illness. Sully was a highly skilled graphic designer and computer expert. Since 1993 he was employed at Radius International in Grayslake, a company that designs and develops cutting edge implantable medical devices.
Sully was a key employee. His graphic skills allowed him to produce three-dimensional drawings of new products that looked like photographs even when they were still on the drawing board. In addition to his skills in product design, he was also involved in prototype and final tool development. His passing is a major loss of talent at Radius. He worked closely with both his mother and father who are the principals at Radius.
He graduated from Grayslake high school and received degrees in both Art and in Communications from Northern Illinois University. He began college at the University of Illinois on a full scholarship that he earned by winning a statewide art contest during his senior year in high school. He also won a national art contest and his winning picture toured in a show around the U.S. for a full year.
He is survived by his parents, David G. and Kathryn A. (Kate) Quinn; his sister, Jennifer S. Quinn; all of Grayslake; and his nephew, Mark A. Ingersoll of Geilenkirken, Germany; his uncle, John Amos and wife Mary; his cousin, Matt Amos and wife Nicole, and their daughter, Olivia, all of Clear Lake, IA. Also surviving are great aunts and many second cousins. Sully was the last of five generations of David Quinns. He was named after his grandfather, whose middle name was Sullivan.
A private service has been conducted. All of his friends are invited to an informal memorial reception on Saturday, November 12, from between 2:00 and 5:00 PM in the banquet building at the Country Squire Restaurant at the corner of Rt 120 and Rt 45 in Grayslake. His father will deliver a short eulogy at 2:30 PM. Arrangements were entrusted to

Muhsin Rashid
Muhsin Rashid, age 64, of North Chicago, IL, passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2005 at the Victory Memorial Hospital, Waukegan, IL. He was born in Stanton, TN on February 22, 1941.
Muhsin was among the first members of the Waukegan-Zion Ahmadiyyat Jamat. He was a 30 year retired employee of Johnson Outboards (OMC).
He is survived by his children, Jalilah Rashid of St. Louis, MO, Hakeem Rashid of Waukegan, Sadika (Leonard) Rashid-Langston of Chicago, IL, Ameenah (Stacy) Rashid-Everett of Flossmor, IL; five grandchildren; three brothers; one sister; and a host of other relatives; and longtime friends.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 7, 2005 beginning at 1:00 PM at the BRADSHAW & RANGE FUNERAL HOME, 2513 Dugdale Road, Waukegan, IL. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park cemetery, Zion, IL (847) 662-3553.

Eloise Ray
Funeral service for Eloise Ray (nee Williams), 93, of Valdosta, GA, formerly of Mundelein, is at 11 AM Saturday at the Community Protestant Church, 418 N. Prairie Ave., Mundelein. Interment will follow in Warren cemetery, Gurnee, IL.
She was born August 6, 1912 in Area, IL, now known as Mundelein, and passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2005 in Valdosta, GA. Eloise attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and later taught business at high schools in Oostburg, WI and Winslow, IL. She worked at Great Lakes Naval Training Center as a secretary during WWII. Mrs. Ray was a life long member of the Community Protestant Church in Mundelein and served as their church secretary for many years. She was also a member of the First Christian Church in Valdosta, GA.
She is survived by her son, Richard (Kay) Ray of Hahira, GA; her daughter, Barbara (Bill) Spence of Charleston, SC; her sister, Ruth Williams of Libertyville; grandchildren, Greg and Lynn Whipple, Robert and Theresa Whipple of Summerville, SC, Richard Ray, Jr., Hannah Abbott, Jayme Ray of Adel, GA; four great-grandchildren, Lauren Whipple, Ryne Whipple, Levi Abbott and Mattison Abbott.
She was preceded in death by her husband, S. Dean Ray.

Estelle Eva Shirk
Estelle Eva Shirk, 86, of Ozark, MO, formerly of Lindenhurst, IL passed away on Monday, November 7, 2005 at the Ozark Riverview Manor, Ozark, MO.
She was born in Normal, IL on April 26, 1919, the daughter of the late George and Martha Schildt. She worked as a secretary at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago until her marriage to the late Joseph Windsor Shirk on May 10, 1940.
She is survived by her children, Mary Davis, Jonathan Shirk, Brian Shirk, Karen Rich, Sharon Page and Rebecca Craig; grandchildren, Kevin Davis, Kimberly Fearn, Kathryn Morgan, Christopher Shirk, Jennifer Robertson, Jonathan Rich, Joseph Rich, Jacob Rich, Jordan Rich, Jason Rich, James Page, Sean Page, Chelsea Page, Rachel Craig, Chloe Craig; great-grandchildren, Emily, Wesley, Wyatt, Kara, Tory, Kevin, Megan, Jacob; and her brothers, Raymond and Elmer Schildt.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; her son, Joseph; her sister, Molly; and brothers, James and George.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2005 at RINGA FUNERAL HOME, 122 S. Milwaukee Ave. (Rte 83) Lake Villa, IL 60046. Interment will be at Highland memorial Park cemetery, Libertyville, IL. Visitation will be on Friday at the funeral home, 4-8 p.m.

Marija Maslar
Marija Maslar, 82, formerly of Gurnee, IL, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2001 at the Winchester House in Libertyville. She was born January 4, 1919 in Lika, Yugoslavia and came to live in the USA in 1951. She was also a former resident of Chicago and Lake Villa. She was a member of The Most Holy Mother of God Serbian Orthodox Monastery in Third Lake and a former member, cook and caretaker of the property of the Serbian Brothers Help in Lake Villa. She was a past president of the Serbian Sisters and before her retirement had been a cook at the Northern Chalet Restaurant in Libertyville.
Surviving are her daughter Kosana (Boris) Gencev of Gurnee, three grandchildren, George, Nick and Maria; two sisters, Ruza Micevic of Duluth, MN and Anka Jurosevic of Yugoslavia; three brothers, Ivo, Mica and Dane Samac, all living in Yugoslavia. She was preceded in death by her husband Rados Maslar on July 4, 1999, whom she met while both were POW's in World War II.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 10 at The Most Holy Mother of God Monastery in Third Lake. Interment will follow in the monastery cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176) Libertyville, where Pomen services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimers Association in her memory.

Gladys E. "Midge" Melka
Gladys E. "Midge" Melka, 81, of Pebblebrook Nursing Centre, Lake Bluff, IL; formerly of Woodstock; passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2001, at Condell Hospital in Libertyville, IL.
Born January 8, 1920, in Libertyville, she was the daughter of the late George W. & Gladys M. Melka.
Midge spent most of her early years, with her family, farming in the McHenry & Lake County areas. Throughout the 1960's, until mid-1977, she resided in Halfway, MO, running the family dairy farm. In 1977 she returned to Woodstock, IL to the Melka family home, where she was very active and enjoyed gardening until suffering a stroke in 1995. Since that time she has resided at Pebblebrook Nursing Centre.
She is survived by one sister, Pearl M. Wedge, of Gurnee, IL; her niece, Bonnie M. Shepperd of Wadsworth, IL; her two nephews, Kenneth L. Wedge of Lake Linden, MI, and Allen W. Wedge of Gurnee. She is also survived by several great-nieces; a great-nephew; her sister-in-law Eleanor Melka Setser of Woodstock, IL; and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Clarence "Bud" Melka and George W. Melka, Jr.; brother-in-law Robert R. Wedge; one nephew Lawrence R. Wedge; and several cousins.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 10, 2001, with a service immediately following at SCHNEIDER, LEUCHT, MERWIN & COONEY FUNERAL HOME, 1211 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock, IL. Burial will be at the Oakland cemetery in Woodstock. For further information phone (815) 338-1710.

Reginald "Red" Satterfield
Reginald "Red" Satterfield of Waukegan, Illinois passed away October 24, 2001 in Antigo, WI. He was the son of the late Frank and Anna Satterfield. He served in the U.S. Army in WW II. Reginald was employed as a fireman in the Waukegan Fire Department for over 20 years, and was a member of the Gurnee American Legion Post and Waukegan Moose Lodge. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing. On November 24, 1956 he married Ruth Simonson in Gurnee, IL.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth, his daughter Sheryl Larson, Waukegan, IL., a son Michael (Patsy) Satterfield of Kenosha, WI., 2 grandchildren: Crystal and Bryan Larson of Waukegan, IL., 7 sisters: Ann Marcott, Skanee, MI.; Loy (Wallace) Paquette, Skanee, MI.; Bonnie (Frank) Niemi, Gurnee, IL.; Donna Volpe, Lake Forest, IL.; Polly Goetz, FL.; Joyce (Dave) Dever, Wadsworth, IL.; and Babe (Jack) Anderson of Gurnee, IL.; and 2 brothers: Nellie Satterfield and Hall (Joan) Satterfield, both of Waukegan, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and 4 brothers.
