Dorothy Rouse
Dorothy Rouse was born to Mr. and Mrs. Freddie and Jerry Mayfield of Franklin County. She was born December 3, 1923. Dorothy was called home June 1, 2003. She joined Broad River Baptist Church at a young age. In time Dorothy moved to North Chicago where she retired from Downey Vet. Hospital after 32 years of service. While in Chicago she was a member of Mt. Sanai Baptist Church.
She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Lisa Ward (Daniel); two granddaughters, Tysanna Smith and Timetriana Smith; four brothers, Hugh Mayfield (Locine), Walter Mayfield (Mary) of North Chicago, Howard Mayfield (Mertice) of Kenosha, Wisconsin and Bill Mayfield (Irene) of Tennessee; three sisters, Ollie Johnson, Geneva Burton of Lavonia, Georgia, Frances Polk of North Chicago; one aunt, Jessie Robinson (T.J.) of Lavonia, Georgia; two sisters-in-law, Mary Mayfield and Lois Mayfield of North Chicago; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by one son, Daniel Rouse, her mother and father, two brothers, Herman Mayfield and Dansby Ray, also one sister, Fannie Jarrett.
Services were held Thursday, June 5, 2003 at Broad River Baptist Church in Lavonia, Georgia. Interment was at Church cemetery.

Ruth Ann Stebbins
Ruth Ann Stebbins, 64, of Black Canyon City, AZ, formerly of Lindenhurst, IL, passed June 3, 2003. Ruth was born July 27, 1938 the third of nine children to Walter "Buddy" and Bertha "Bertie" Labus of Waukegan, IL.
Surviving Ruth are her beloved husband Richard of Black Canyon City, AZ; sons John of Lindenhurst, IL and Michael Toby of Rolling Meadows, IL; her daughters Amy (Frank) Wasson of Mesa, AZ and Eileen (Kerry) Carter of Glendale, AZ; six brothers Frank (Carol) of Wildwood, IL, Jack (Ann) of New Port Richey, FL, Dan (Pam Niemi) of Waukegan, Tim (Janice) of Herndon, VA, David (Stella) of Lindenhurst, IL and Brian (Mary) of Waukegan, IL; two sisters Betsy (Danny) Ristow of Escondido, CA and Peggy Labus (Chip Wright) of Gurnee, IL; her grandchildren Neil Jamin of Mesa, AZ, Jimmie Tstinic of Muncie, IN, Andrew Landsverk of Gurnee, IL, Jill Jamin of Mesa, AZ, Kaden and Adam Carter of Glendale, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was at Shadow Mountain Mortuary. Interment was on June 7, 2003 at Resthaven Park cemetery in Phoenix, AZ. A memorial mass was celebrated at St. Phillip Benizi Catholic Church in Black Canyon City, AZ. Donations to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014.

Robert W. Johnson
Robert W. Johnson, 75, of Libertyville, IL, passed away Friday, June 6, 2003 at the Condell Medical Center. He was born July 4, 1927 in New Kensington, PA and had been a Libertyville resident since 1955. He was a 1945 graduate of New Kensington High School and received his B.A. Degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Bob was a U.S. Naval Air Corps veteran, having served during World War II, was a member of the Libertyville American Legion Post #329 and the Forty and Eight veterans in Gurnee. He was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Libertyville Masonic Lodge and before his retirement, had been the Vice President of sales and marketing at Morton Manufacturing in Libertyville.
Surviving are his wife Lois Johnson; his son Robert L. and grandson Robert M. Johnson, both of Huntley. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Johnson, by his brothers George and Richard and by his sister Mary Goodenow.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, Wednesday, June 11 at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176) Libertyville. Interment will follow at Lakeside cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Memorial contributions can be made to the Lakeside cemetery Renovation Fund, P.O. Box 500, Libertyville, IL 60048. Info: 847-362-3009.

Jesse William Kent
Jesse Kent was born on October 20, 1938 in Darling, Mississippi, to the late William and Beatrice Kent. Jesse grew up in Centralia, Illinois and was reared by his older brother and sister-in-law. He attended school in both Centralia, IL and Memphis, TN where he later moved. As a child he accepted Christ at an early age and was united with the A.M.E. Church Faith. Many will miss his warm smile and good spirit. He was a friend to all throughout his life.
He moved to the Waukegan, Illinois area in 1964 where he received an Associate Degree from College of Lake County.
Jesse was currently retired for the U.S. Government since 1998. He was a dedicated and hard working employee. He served in the U.S. Air Force for two years and the U.S. Navy for ten years.
In May 1968, Jesse was married to the late Ethel Mae Cook. To this union two children were born, Christopher and Pettis.
On July 7, 2001 Jesse was married in Holy Matrimony to Byrdie Turman.
He departed from this life on Monday June 2, 2003 at 2:05 a.m. at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. He moved to Decatur, GA in June, 2002.
Jesse leaves to cherish his loving memories a loving and devoted wife, Byrdie; two sons, Christopher of Waukegan, IL and Pettis (Remi) of Cincinnati, Ohio; one granddaughter, Cydney Morel Kent; four sisters, Lillie May Common of Anderson, IN, Cora Stanley of Detroit, MI, Florastine Owens of Newark, CA and Johnnie Money of Chicago, IL; four brothers, Alex Lewis of Memphis, TN, Paul Lewis of St. Louis, MO, Charles Kent of Kansas, MO, and John Adams of Chicago, IL; a father-in-law, Willie Turman of Evanston, IL; a special sister-in-law, Gennette Pickett of Atlanta, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A Home Going Celebration for Jesse William Kent will be held Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at Second Baptist Church, 1717 Benson Ave., Evanston, IL, Reverend Mark A. Dennis, Interim Pastor, Reverend Rose Marie Green, officiating. Visitation is at 10:00 a.m. and the Celebration is at 11:00 a.m.

Lucille (Rink) Paulson
Lucille (Rink) Paulson was born January 10, 1906 in Henry County, Illinois to Joseph and Nellie (Collins) Rink, the sixth of ten children. Lucille passed away on Monday, June 9, 2003 at her home at Victory Lakes in Lindenhurst, Illinois.
Lucille married LeRoy T. Paulson in 1933 and for 46 years was a resident of Waukegan, Illinois. She and her husband founded the Parkway Restaurant in Waukegan in 1945 and the family continued to operated the business until 1999. For most of her life she was a member of St. Anastasia Parish in Waukegan, the Waukegan Garden Club, Douglas Chapter and the Faxon Book Club. Lucille was active in many philanthropic ventures including Happy Day Nursery of Waukegan, United Way of Lake County, Holy Child High School, Campion Jesuit High School and the St. Anastasia Parish.
Lucille, an avid golfer, was a member of Glen Flora Country Club until her death. She also served on the Board of the Chicago Women's District Golf Association. In addition, Lucille was an accomplished baker and is fondly remembered by many for her wonderful cakes and pies.
Lucille graduated from Prophetstown High School and the Northern Illinois Teachers College at DeKalb. She was a teacher for several years in the Chicago Public Schools.
Lucille is survived by her four children, Joan (Paul) Ochs of Braintree, Massachusetts, Peter (Jane) Paulson of Saynor, Wisconsin, Roy (Joanne) Paulson of Wadsworth, Illinois and Paula (Joseph) Brennan of Wheaton, Illinois; 19 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy in 1970.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM on Friday, June 13, 2003 at St. Anastasia Church, 624 Douglas Ave, Waukegan. Visitation will be at Church from 10 AM until time of services. Memorials may be sent to the Sisters of the Holy Child Jesus and St. Anastasia Grade School.
Arrangements are under the care of PETERSON & PATCH FUNERAL HOME, 408 N. Sheridan Rd, Waukegan.

Ruth Ann Stebbins

Virginia Troutt Wethington
Virginia Troutt Wethington, 77, of Beach Park died on Friday, June 6, 2003 at Rolling Hills Manor Nursing Home in Zion. Virginia was born March 29, 1926 in Bonnie, Illinois and came to this area after she married David Wethington in 1947. She was a member of Christ Community Church of Zion and she did domestic help in private homes in the area for various professional people.
Survivors include her children, Nancy Long of Waukegan, Gail (Gary) Lloyd of Zion, David (Colleen) Wethington of Zion and Dirk Wethington of Bloomington, Illinois; five grandchildren, Kenneth Long, Josh Lloyd, Caleb Lloyd, Tiffany Lloyd and Tabitha Lloyd; a great grandchild, Corey Long; and a brother, Paul (Gloria) Troutt of New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her husband, David in 1991; by two brothers, Lowell and Charles "Rip" Troutt; and by her parents, William and Juanita Troutt
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at 3 PM at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion with Rev. Jon Wiziarde of Christ Community Church officiating and private cremation to follow. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 PM until time of services at the funeral home. 847-746-1234.

Henry H. "Buddy" Woods
Henry H. "Buddy" Woods, 70, of Waukegan died Saturday, June 7, 2003 at his home. He was born June 20, 1932 in Fulton, Mississippi, came to Lake County in 1953 and has resided in Waukegan most of his life. He retired in 1995 from Cement Masons Local 362 and he was an avid gardener, selling his home grown tomatoes from his own vegetable stand on Green Bay Road in Waukegan.
Survivors include his children, Rick (Jane) Woods of Winthrop Harbor, Sandra (David) Edwards of St. Louis, Missouri, Edward (Peggy) Woods of Kenosha and Pamela (Ken) Banike of Salem, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a sister, Aline (James) Hester of Memphis, Tennessee; and four brothers, Verner Wood, Wayne Wood, A.C. Wood and James Wood all of Fulton, Mississippi.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue; a daughter, Patricia Gail Woods; four sisters, Rivil, Ada, Girlie Mae and Earline; and by three brothers, Bill, Jack and Donni.
A Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 10, 2003 from 6 to 9 PM at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. There will also be a visitation on Thursday evening at the Deaton Funeral Home in Red Bay, Alabama with Funeral Services on Friday at the funeral home and interment following at Pleasant Site cemetery in Red Bay.

Lila L. Hall (nee Hill)
Lila L. Hall (nee Hill), 93, of Waukegan died Thursday, June 5, 2003 at the Terrace Nursing Home, Waukegan.
She was born in Jennings, Michigan, November 15, 1909 and lived in Waukegan most of her life. Lila worked at U.S. Steel and as a sales person at Globe Department Store, Waukegan. She was a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church, Waukegan, the St. Marks Kitchen Band and the church choir.
Lila is survived by a step son, Donald Hall Jr; grandchildren, Theresa (Dwayne) Moe, Charles (Charlotte) Hansen of Wadsworth, Rebecca (Ronald) Stobierski of South Elgin and Rachael Hansen of Atlanta, GA; Daughter-in-law, Ann Hansen of Frazee, MN; granddaughter-in-law, Kathy Hansen of Zion, IL; eight great grandchildren; and eight great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Lee Hansen, John Marine and Donald Hall; son's, Robert Hansen Sr. and James Hansen; and grandson, Robert Hansen.
Services and interment will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, June 9, 2003 at North Shore Garden of Memories, North Chicago, IL with Rev. Willard Blomquist officiating.
Donations to St. Mark's Lutheran Church in her memory would be appreciated.

Alice S. Higgins, 94, of Zion, passed away Friday, June 6, 2003 at Sheridan Health Care Center. She was born July 28, 1908 in Libertyville.
Survivors include her daughter Patricia (Lester) Prothe of McCormick, SC; three granddaughters, Michelle McKivven, Melissa Lehmann and Melinda Tinsley; and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband William F. Higgins in 1964.
Memorial Services will be at 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 9, 2003 at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF WAUKEGAN, 1521 Washington St. Burial will be private. Visitation is from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. For information call (847) 336-0127.

Patricia Jean Vass
Patricia Jean Vass, 81, of Winthrop Harbor and formerly of Zion and Sinks Grove, West Virginia died on Friday, June 6, 2003 at Sheridan Health Care Center, Zion.
Patricia was born May 21, 1922 in Berlin, New Hampshire and came to this area in the mid 1940's. She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church of Zion where she was also active in various Women's Circles of the church. She was also formerly active in Zion P.T.A. where she had served a term as President and was active in Zion area Girl Scouts. The biggest joy in her life however was her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Mary Krell of Beach Park, Betty (Jerry) Cook of Lago Vista, Texas, Cathy (Ed) Alfaro of Winthrop Harbor and Robert (Terri) Vass of Kenosha, Wisconsin; nine grandchildren, Ron, Darrell, Derrick, Lance (Liz), Tonya, Robert Jr., Christie, Casey and Kristen; nine great grandchildren, Wryan, Kyle, Kirsten, Alyssa, Samantha, Megan, Ethan, Isabel and Robert III; a sister, Colleen (Frank) Chiarantano of Connecticut; and a sister-in-law, Martha (Wade) Helvey of West Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Vass; her parents, Joseph and Marquerite Coyle; a son-in-law, James Krell; by three sisters, Barbara, Norma and Mary Jane; three brothers, John, Bernard and Alfred; and by a brothers-in-law, Brown (Elaine) Vass, Ralph (Mildred) Vass and Forrest (Faye) Vass.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at 10:30 AM at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion with Pastor Paul Gerardy on Memorial United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Pineview Memorial Park, Beach Park. Visitation will be Monday, June 9, 2003 from 5 to 8 PM at the Congdon Funeral Home. 847-746-1234.

M. Louise Vick
Louise Vick, a 1983 retiree of the Illinois Bell Telephone Co. and member of the First United Methodist Church of Waukegan, passed on May 17, 2003 at Rolling Hills Nursing Home. The day the lilacs bloomed.
Ms. Vick, a long time resident of Waukegan, IL possessed the charm and manners of a true lady. She took pride in helping others. A News Sun "Neighborhood" article in December 1994, outlined her work as a senior volunteer at Washington School in Waukegan, where she attended grade school. While volunteering at the school she assisted in the first and third grade classrooms by reading with the children, and helping out in the school office. One of her great loves was aiding handicapped children in swimming pool exercises, even though she was not a swimmer. Her reward was "seeing someone who could not walk learn to float and then swim." She was also an active participant in the Telephone Pioneers, and their philanthropic projects.
Ms. Vick traveled the world with her many close friends and enjoyed her summer fishing vacation in Canada with her brother Pres, and her family. Born in Mexico, Kentucky on June 5th, 1927, she moved with her family to Waukegan in 1932, and graduated from Waukegan Township High School in 1944.
Her parents Lacy Loren and Nora Francis Vick, her brothers Elton, Edward Preston and Willard, and sister Verna Marie and Opal Lee Mathews, preceded Ms. Vick in death. She is survived by her sister-in-laws Ann (Elton) Vick and Dorothy (Preston) Vick, and nieces and nephews Patricia (Don) Anthony, Judy (Craig) Massouh, Steven (Carol) Vick and Thomas (Eleanor) Vick, and numerous great nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Her friends and family will hold a memorial in honor of her life at Thomas Vick's home on June 13th between 4 and 7 PM. Ms. Vick will rest finally with her parents in Francis, Kentucky.

Virginia Troutt Wethington

Randall Carter
Randall Carter, 71, formerly of Waukegan, IL. passed away May 31, 2002 in Baltimore, MD. He retired from The Baltimore City Department of Water Works as a supervisor after 17 years of dedicated service. He leaves to cherish his memory, a dear friend, Mary Smith and family, a sister, Shirley Madden and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Memorial services were at Warren cemetery.

Roy Evans
Roy Evans, 88, departed this life May 23, 2002. He had a peaceful passing with his son Bill at his side.
Roy enjoyed a useful, interesting life and kept his faith until the end. He had a great love of nature and taught his children the same. He served four years in WWII in the European Theatre and North African Campaign. He retired from Harley Davidson as a tool and die maker. Roy and his wife Muriel were enthusiastic travelers and enjoyed participating with both extended families.
Roy's favorite song "It's a Wonderful Life" is the way he lived. He left to cherish his memories wife Muriel (Ryan) of Gurnee, Il, children Lucille, Linda, Bill, (Bea), David and a host of family and friends of the Milwaukee area.
Roy was laid to rest at Woods National cemetery with full military honors. Eulogy by daughter Lucille. Services by Rev. David Eikenberry. A donation to the First Presbyterian Church in Waukegan , Il or the Parkinson Foundation would be appreciated.

Lenore Aniotenee Gates
God sent us an angel on August 19, 1976 and called her home on May 29, 2002. Lenore Aniotenee Gates was born in Chicago, IL. She grew up and attended school in the Waukegan area.
Lenore leaves to love and cherish her memories her parents Annie Gates (Willie Reed), father Charles Norris, grandmothers Blanche Gates and Thelma Reed, one brother Chris Profit, six sisters Latrese Gates, Pharda Norris, Yumenka Reed-Jordan, Krishna Reed, Shayvakeya Profit and Lakeisha Thompson, five nephews Naquan Reed, Milton Mollison, Darius Profit, Chris Profit and Trevion Thompson and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends.
She was preceded in death by her twin brother Lenard Gates, maternal grandmother Otis Thompson, paternal grandfather George Norris and paternal grandmother Earlen Norris.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2002 at the First Corinthian Baptist Church, 1529 Elizabeth, North Chicago, IL 60064. Wake will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. and funeral from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon with Pastor Roberson officiating. Arrangements entrusted to WESTGATE FUNERALS.
