Helen Ann Lippert (nee Uksas)
Helen Lippert (nee Uksas), 88, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2003 at the Terrace Nursing Home in Waukegan, Illinois.
She was born in Vernon, Illinois on January 25, 1915 and as a baby moved to Waukegan with her family.
Helen was married to the late Charles W. Lippert for 68 years, who passed away in April 18, 2002.
Helen worked at Pfansteel and retired from Abbott Laboratories. She attended the Church of the Annunciation in Gurnee.
Helen is survived by her son, David (Wanda) Lippert of Lindenhurst, IL; her grandchildren, Michael (Carol) Lippert of Gurnee, Daniel (Victoria) Lippert of Antioch, IL, Jill Archbold of Gurnee, IL and Jacqueline (James) Wilson of Beach Park, IL; her great grandchildren, Kendall, Robert, Kiley, James, Colin and Emerson Shelby born August 8, 2003 and the circle of life continues; her devoted sister, Ann "Mickey" Riddle of Zion, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Alex and Frank Uksas; and her sisters, Christina Willoughby and Bernice "Bee" Depoian.
Visitation will be held at SALATA-GURNEE FUNERAL HOME, 4190 Old Grand Avenue, Gurnee, IL from 5 until 8 PM on Monday, August 11, 2003. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM at the Church of the Annunciation, in Gurnee, on Tuesday, August 12, 2003. Interment will follow at North Shore Garden of Memories.

Wendi L. Nelson
Wendi L. Nelson, 38, of Libertyville died suddenly Friday, August 8, 2003 in Waukegan. She was born June 15, 1965 in Libertyville and was a 1983 graduate of Libertyville High School. Wendi was a highly respected swim instructor at Libertyville's Adler Pool and will be remembered for her contagious laugh along with her tremendous sense of humor.
She is survived by her loving and devoted companion of many years, Mike Brainerd; her sisters, Tracey (Joe) Cerami of Streamwood, Dawn (Dave) Johnson of Round Lake Beach, Heather (Scott) Coleman of Lake Villa and April (Frank) Soto of Antioch; her grandmothers, Mona Kobzan and Margaret Nelson; along with her nieces and nephews whom she adored, Jamie, Cassie, Zachary, Teagan, Courtney, Patrick and Troy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Patricia; and her uncle, Jim.
Funeral services will be 8 PM Friday August 15, 2003 at McMurrough Chapel, 101 Park Place, Libertyville where there will be visitation Friday from 3 PM until time of Service.
It has been requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be directed to either the D.A.R.E., M.A.D.D. or the S.A.D.D. program. 847-362-2626.

Elaine Marie Rockow (nee Olson)
Elaine Marie Rockow (nee Olson), 85 years old of Antioch, IL for 42 years, retiring to Winslow, IL for 14 years, returning to the local area nine years ago, fell asleep in Christ on August 10, 2003 at Winchester House in Libertyville, IL. She was born April 15, 1918 in Green County, WI to Elmer and Marie (Erickson) Olson, who both preceded her in death, as well as her brothers Floyd and Arleigh.
She worked at Regal China, was a waitress at the Ruralite, Vi's and Las Vegas Restaurants and had owned Rockow's Rainbow Cleaners in the early 60's. She loved writing poems, working crossword puzzles, reading, canning, baking, playing cards and bingo.
On September 28, 1939 she married Eugene (Gene) Harold Rockow in Dubuque, IA and he preceded her in death on October 30, 1996.
Loved Ones remaining are her son Royal Eugene (Judy) Rockow of Gurnee, IL and her daughter Karleen Marie (Gene) Garner of Antioch. She was a loving grandmother to Jodi (Joseph) Morris of Waukegan, IL, Jeffrey (Moira) Johnson of Johnsburg, IL, Jason (Gigi) Johnson of Bristol, WI, Jayme (Jim) Martin of McHenry, IL, Amy Garner of Crystal Lake, IL, William and Bret (Beverly) Rockow, both of South Carolina and Burt (Michelle) Rockow of Wadsworth, IL, 15 great grandchildren, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. She will truly be missed by her family.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 14, 2003 at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St., (Rte. 83) with visitation from 4 until 8 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will be in Hillside cemetery, Antioch. Info 847-395-4000.

Rose K. Zadigian (nee Esperian)
Rose K. Zadigian, of Gurnee, IL passed away on August 7, 2003 at St. Therese Medical Center in Waukegan.
She was born in Waukegan and was a lifelong resident of the Waukegan-Gurnee area except for a 15 year period living in Marengo, Illinois. She was a graduate of Waukegan Township High School and had attended Lake Forest College. Rose was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and St. George Armenian Church of Waukegan. She was a former member of Christ Church Women's Guild and Glen Flora Country Club in Waukegan, the Marengo Women's Club, Bel Mar Country Club and the Highland Hospital Auxiliary of Belvedere, Illinois. She was also active in the Girl Scouts of America.
Rose is survived by her daughter, Nancy J. (Anthony) O'Brien of Grayslake; four nieces, Kallen Esperian Machen, Toppy and Patty Aprahamian and Barbara Poston; four nephews, Greg Kazian, Brian Zadigian, John Zadigian and Dr. Martin Zadigian.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; her parents, Kaloost and Satenig Esperian; a brother, Arthur Esperian; and three sisters, Mary Watson, Charlotte Kazian and Agnes Aprahamian; and a nephew, Paul Goshgarian.
Private funeral services will be 11 AM on Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at North Shore Garden of Memories in North Chicago with interment to follow.
Friends may call at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF GURNEE, 305 cemetery Rd. from 4 to 8 PM on Monday only.
Memorials may be made in her memory to the American Heart Association.

Charlie Mae Funderburk
Charlie Mae Funderburk, 90, of Winthrop Harbor died on Saturday, August 7, 2004 at Midwestern Regional Medical Center in Zion. Charlie was born December 9, 1913 in Fulton, Mississippi, moved to Zion in 1950 from Red Bay, Alabama, and has lived in Winthrop Harbor since 1974. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Winthrop Harbor and she was Secretary/Treasurer of Funderburk Builders, Inc. of Winthrop Harbor.
Survivors include a daughter, Nellie (Don) Osborne of Winthrop Harbor; a son, Jim (Wendi) Funderburk of Wadsworth; grandchildren, Deborah (fiance, Paul Kisielewski) Cagle, April (Ron) Kaiser, Lorrie (fiance, Sultan Jumani) Funderburk and Jamie (Aixa) Funderburk; five great grandchildren, Rita, Amy, Jason, Matthew and Kyle; two sisters, Sue (Robert) Miller of Zion and Dezzie (James) Davis of Red Bay, Alabama; and four sisters-in-law, Bernice Works of Red Bay, Alabama, Bill Works of Corinth, Mississippi, Raider Truelove of Red Bay, Alabama and Wilma Funderburk of Red Bay, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin C. Funderburk; a granddaughter, Jane Bautista; three brothers, Arnold, Jim and Arnie Works; and a sister, Robbie Weeks.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at 10 AM at the First Baptist Church, 3001 9th Street, Winthrop Harbor with Pastor Michael Brown officiating. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 10, 2004 from 5 until 8 PM at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Sylvester J. "Cy" Gapinski
Sylvester J. "Cy" Gapinski, 73, of Lake Villa, IL passed away on Friday, August 6, 2004 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL.
He was born in Gilman, Minnesota of August 27, 1930, the son of the late Frank B. and Bernice Gapinski. He was a veteran, serving with the U.S. Army. He was a resident of the Lake Villa area for the past 41 years. He was a member of the Moose, Waukegan Lodge. On August 25, 1955, he married Yvonne Ahles.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Yvonne; his children, Judy (Bruce) Gyllin of Wisconsin, Susan (Robin) Liddell of Lake Zurich, IL, Calvin (Alice) Gapinski of Lake Villa, Carol (George R. Jr.) Jackson of Woodstock, IL, Kenneth (Susan) Gapinski of Lena, IL, Karl (Jenny) Gapinski of Lake Villa, Mark (Colleen McClory) Gapinski of Crystal Lake, IL and Kathleen (Jason) Peters of Georgia; 21 grandchildren; a great grandchild; and his brothers, Eugene, Dennis, David and Thomas. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard.

Lois Mary Kolian (nee Lippert)
Lois Mary Kolian, nee Lippert, age 77, a longtime resident of Fox Lake, IL, died suddenly at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, IL. She was born in Chicago, IL on November 1, 1926 to Fredrick and Louise (nee Lino) Lippert and on June 28, 1945 she married George W. Kolian Jr. in California. She was best known for her many years with the Globe Department Store in Fox Lake and her former employment with the Fox Lake Library. Gardening, reading, cooking and spending time with her family and friends gave her the most enjoyment.
Survivors include her husband, George W. Kolian Jr. of Fox Lake, IL; her son, Douglas (Donna) Kolian of Fox Lake, IL; her nieces and nephews, Terry Lippert of Georgia, Judith Bellamy of Texas, Scott Nielsen of Fox Lake, IL, Terin Nielsen of Washington, Brian Nielsen of Florida; and great-nephew, Michael Lippert of Grayslake, IL; her sister-in-law, Delores Nielsen of Arlington Heights, IL and her step-grandchildren, Ember Bindrim of McHenry, IL and Brittany Bindrim of Fox Lake, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ted and Bob Lippert and by her grandson, Mark Kolian.

Mildred "Millie" Largo
Mildred "Millie" Largo, 91, of Hot Springs, AR passed away Thursday, August 5, 2004 in Arkansas. She was born September 27, 1912 in Libertyville, IL.
She was employed at White's Variety Store in Waukegan before moving to Hot Springs. She was a a member of Highland Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James J. Largo; one brother, John Kruckman and three sisters, Marjorie Kruckman, Marguerite Kruckman and Rosaline Kuester.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, James and Paula Largo of Highland Park, IL; her granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Robin and Richard Taubman; her grandson, Marc Largo.
Visitation 6:30 to 8:30 Monday, August 9, 2004 at Hot Springs Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at Hot Springs Funeral Home. Interment Crestview Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Highland Presbyterian Church.

John A. Malec
John A. Malec, 84, of Beach Park, Illinois passed away on Saturday, August 7, 2004 at Vista St. Therese Medical Center in Waukegan. John was born in Proctor, Minnesota on November 22, 1919 and married his late wife, Mary (nee Zernich) in November of 1946.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served 21 years during World War II and the Korean War. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer (ADC). After his retirement from the Navy, he worked for Bob & Doug Koss Amoco in Waukegan. John was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and was a 60 year member of the Waukegan Moose Lodge #706 where he was also Governor of Legion 169, and had a Pilgrim Degree. He was also a member of the Fleet Reserve of Great Lakes, IL.
John is survived by his daughter, Carol (John) Babnik of Beach Park; three grandchildren, John (Marielle) Babnik, Scott Babnik and Stacey (Chris) Clark; two great grandchildren, Madeline and John Babnik III; a sister, Betty (Gene) Backus of Edina, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary in 1993; as well as three brothers, Joe, Walt and Frank Malec.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 A< on Thursday, August 12, 2004 at the SALATA-GURNEE FUNERAL HOME, 4190 Old Grand Ave with Fr. Paul J. Cull officiating. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Libertyville.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 PM on Wednesday and from 9:30 AM until time of services Thursday.

Helen Martinez
Helen Martinez, 72, of Waukegan, IL passed away Friday, August 6, 2004 in Waukegan, IL. She was born February 15, 1932 in Dallas, Texas and was a member of Holy Family Church in Waukegan. She was the beating heart of a loving family. Mrs. Martinez was a dressmaker since 1953 and was a custom designer, well known by the prestige of her dress-making skills.
Survivors include her husband, Hilario A. Martinez; daughter, Mary (Victor) Lopez, Raymond (Laurie) Hernandez, Mario (Catherine) Martinez, Roberto (Maricela) Martinez, Beartice Martinez; brothers, Apolinar Cruz, Mr. and Mrs. Lazaro Cruz, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Cruz, Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Cruz; sisters, Rosa (Nicanor) Medina and Jesse (Jerry) Petrovic; 11 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
preceded in death by her parents, Ernesto and Francesca Cruz; and siblings, Melquiades Cruz, Serafin Cruz, Socorro Torres, Maria Luisa Perez, Esther Sanchez, Carmen Quiroz and Alberto Cruz.

Milisav "Milo" Velisavljevic
Milisav "Milo" Velisavljevic, 66, of Waukegan, IL passed away suddenly Friday, August 6, 2004 at St. Therese Medical Center in Waukegan. He was born January 2, 1938 in Stalac, Serbia and came to live in the USA and Waukegan in 1968. He was a former employee of Johnson Motors in Waukegan and retired as a nuclear control room operator for Commonwealth Edison in Zion. Milo was very mechanically creative as an inventor, was hard working, honest, strong willed, energetic and enjoyed pursuing his dreams.
Surviving are his wife, Dobrila; three children, Suzana (Jeff) Wray of Dobbs Ferry, NY, Zoran Velisavljevic of Chicago and Gordana Velisavljevic of Waukegan; a grandchild, Natasha Wray; a brother, Dragoslav (Dragica) of Waukegan; and a sister, Dragica living in Serbia.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, August 10 at The Most Holy Mother of God Serbian Orthodox Church in Third Lake. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM on Monday at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave (Rt. 176), Libertyville, where pomen services will be held at 7 PM that evening. Info: 847-362-3009.

Beloved wife of the late Albert Bertusi and Stephen Kostial. Loving mother of Melissa (Jeff) Janos and the late Stephanie Patricia Kostial. Cherished grandmother of Gregory, Sara and Andrew. Dear sister of Andrew Orsini and the late Gloria Tonsing, the late Lita Pegoraro and the late Martha Jean D'Astice.

Florence Orvis Downie
Florence Orvis Downie, 92, of Waukegan, IL, passed away August 2, 2002. She was born January 9, 1910 in Waukegan to Ella (Ahart) Orvis and Elmer V. Orvis, Attorney.
She attended St. Mary's College for two years, Notre Dame in Indiana and Northwestern. She married William E. Downie, Jr., on November 23, 1929, more than 50 years prior to his death in 1981. She was an avid bridge player and golfer. She was also past President of the Waukegan Young Women's League. She lived in Waukegan for 60 years and returning to Illinois in 1998 to be near her family. She retired to Cherokee Village, AR in 1970, where they learned to Round and Square Dance. Flo was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Cherokee Village, AR and for 28 years was the Church organist. She was also a member of AARP, member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames and Daughters of the American Colonist.
She is survived by a son, William (Lodeen (Terri) Downie, Gurnee; and a daughter, Denise (Kenneth) Biarnesen, Gurnee; grandchildren, Debra (Randy) Decker, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Vicki (David) Sturino, El Paso, Texas, Dawn (Bob) Deason, Gurnee; Bobbi (Jim) Siver, Kenosha, WI; and Mike (Vicki) Biarnesen, Gurnee; and 15 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bill, in 1981, a sister Helen Orvis in 1989 and granddaughters, Cindy Lee Downie and Laurie Jean Downie.
Visitation Tuesday, August 6, 2002, 6-9PM at Marsh Funeral Home, 305 cemetery Rd, Gurnee, IL. Mass at 10AM, Wednesday, August 7, 2002 at Prince of Peace Church, Lindenhurst. Burial will be private.

Val F. Gelden
Val F. Gelden, 85 years old of Oak Creek, WI., formerly of Lake Villa, IL passed away Sunday, August 4, 2002 at St. Luke's Medical Center, Milwaukee, WI.
She was born November 30, 1916 the daughter of the late Merdick and Nova Pearl (Seger) Rushton in Lake Elizabeth Twsp., Minnesota, and had lived in Lake Villa for 63 years before moving to Oak Creek in 2000. Val was a member of the Oakland School Board in Antioch, the Millburn Order of the Eastern Star, and the Royal Neighbors of America. She also loved children, (being a foster mother to 25), crocheting and knitting. On May 8, 1937 she married Raymond A. Gelden in Woodstock, IL and he preceded her in death on March 25, 1985.
Survivors include: a foster son Ronald Gelden; two sisters, Lee (Maurice) Murphy of Highwood, IL., and Arlene (Richard) Zimont of Oak Forest, IL.; two grandchildren, David (Tammy) Gelden, and Daun (Jeff) Kihslinger; five great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Tom, Dan, Brooke, and Rachael; and daughter-in-law, Audrey and her children.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Patricia, and son Raymond.
Memorial Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 8, 2002 at STRANG FUNERAL HOME, 1055 Main St. (Rte. 83) Antioch. Private interment will be in Warren cemetery, Gurnee, IL. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until time of services Thursday. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Franciscan Villa, 3601 S. Ruth E. Hendrickson
Ruth E. Hendrickson, 77, a resident of the Superior Road, Houghton, MI, died unexpectedly on Friday, August 2, 2002 at her home. She was born on April 14, 1925, in Painesdale, Mich., a daughter of the late Jacob and Amelia (Hill) Rajala and was a 1943 graduate of the Painesdale High School. On September 28, 1947, she was married to Robert E. Hendrickson in Trimountain, Mich. The couple resided in Zion, Ill. for a period of time and in 1987, returned to the area to make their home. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband on April 13, 1993. Ruth was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church of South Range, Mich.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Cheryl (Jerry) Holland of Strawberry, AZ and Lois (Steve) Graeff of Woodinville, WA; 3 sons, Robert (Debi) Hendrickson of Henderson, Nevada, Brian (Nancy) Hendrickson of Gurnee, IL, Gregg (Colleen) Hendrickson of Beach Park, IL; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Wilbert (Delores) Rajala of Southfield, Mich; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
As requested by Ruth, cremation will take place. There will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2002, at Grace Lutheran Church in South Range, Mich., with Rev. James Gallagher to officiate. Ruth's cremains will be placed next to her husband Bob's cremains in the Arlington National cemetery. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church of South Range in memory of Ruth E. Hendrickson. Arrangements are being handled by the Mountain View Mortuary of South Range, Mich., Antila Funeral Service, Inc.
