Michael James Paul Matelski, 20 day old son of Denise Matelski passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, July 23, 2002. He was born July 3, 2002 in Waukegan.
Survivors include his mother Denise; his special care giver, Laurie B. Tye; his grandparents, Paul and Marge Matelski; two brothers, Christopher Leon Matelski and DeShawn Caine Lamar Williams; and a sister, Jazimine Destiney Williams.
He was preceded in death by an uncle, Keith M. Matalski; and his grandparents.
Funeral Services were private with interment in Millburn cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH.

Demetries L. Rollins
Demetries L. Rollins, 22, of Chicago, IL passed away Sunday, July 21, 2002.
He was born March 27, 1980 in Chicago, IL.
Survivors include his mother, Alma Rollins-Kletschka; a sister, Kenyata N. Rollins; two uncles; two aunts; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mary L. Rollins; and an aunt, Barbara A. Stone.
Memorial Services will be held at 1:45 PM on Friday, July 26, 2002 in the Greater Faith Baptist Church, 565 Powell Ave, Waukegan, IL with Rev. C. L. Fairchild, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be private.

Rose Sacramento (nee Drinkwine)
Rose Sacramento (nee Drinkwine), 86, of Waukegan passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at Victory Memorial Hospital.
She was born October 6, 1915 in North Chicago.
She was Past President of the Waukegan American Legion Women's Auxiliary.
Cherished mother of Grace (Robert) DeGrand, Donimic (Janice); loving grandmother of Michelle, Jeffrey, Joseph and Jason.
preceded in death by her husband, Paul in 1972.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM Friday, July 26, 2002 in the MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF GURNEE with Father Frank Plotka officiating. Interment will be in Ascension cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Thursday, July 25, 2002 and from 9 AM Friday until time of service in the funeral home.

Lillian I. Sampson
Lillian I. Sampson, 57, of Waukegan passed away July 21, 2002 at the St. Therese Medical Center.
She was born February 16, 1945 in Bell City, MO, and has been a resident of Waukegan for the past 25 years.
She is survived by her three children, Henry T. Sampson Jr. of Round Lake Beach, IL, Dezerine (Jeff) Bernales of Waukegan, IL and Leah (Donnie) Cummings of St. Pauls, NC; a granddaughter, Lillian Marie Cummings; her former husband, Henry T. Sampson Sr. of Lumberton, NC; five sisters, Laura (the late Edward) Winsett, Jeanette (Joseph) Priola, Bonnie (the late Harry) Swiatkowski, Gladys (Thomas) Bartels, Millie (Pete) Finney; two brothers, James (the late Sandy) Tanner and Raymond Tanner; two sisters-in-law, Montel Tanner and Joyce Tanner; very special friends, Peggy and Jay Holt, Gloria Lockett and Christine Nelson and many nieces and nephews.
Lillian was preceded in death by her brothers, Ernest Tanner and Idele "Bill" Tanner and a sister, Josephine (the late Hurl) Dale.
Friends may call on Friday, July 26, 2002 from 6 to 9 PM at the SYMONDS-LAKE FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 111 W. Belvidere Rd, Grayslake, IL. 7 PM Wake Services Pastor Louis Reyes officiating. Raymond Edward Sawyers
Raymond Edward Sawyers, 59, of Beach Park, IL passed away on July 21, 2002. Raymond was born on August 22, 1942 in Nashville, TN to Allen and Marie Sawyers.
He relocated to Illinois in 1971 when he became employed with Chrysler. He retired from Chrysler in 2000 after 31 years of service. Raymond enjoyed the bliss of retirement. He was known as a character among his family and friends. He enjoyed good-natured joking and political debates. He was an avid sports enthusiast; he would love to talk for hours about sports.
Raymond is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Rita Sawyers; four daughters, Cora (Michael) Buckner, Tammy Sawyers, Tiwanda (Darryl) Cecil and Dawn Sawyers; one son, James R. Sawyers; nine grandchildren: Chasity, Ashley, Mitchell, Nicole and James Michael Sawyers, Antonio Summers, Kelsei and Jordan Cecil and Michael Buckner. He leaves to mourn six sisters: Mary Holt, Girley Crawley, Shirley (Robert) Coffee, Grace (Danny) Dennings, Alvine Holbert of Nashville, TN and Allie Mae Davis of Atlanta, GA and a very special nephew, Darryl Sawyers. In addition, he leaves two brothers, James Sonny Sawyers of Waukegan, IL and Ernest (Brenda) Sawyers of Toledo, OH; one brother-in-law, Robert (Sammie) Mitchell; and his two very dear friends of 50 years, William Dennis of Nashville, TN and James Sonny Lindsey of Madison, WI; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen Sawyers and Marie Sawyers-Head.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00PM on Friday, July 26, 2002 at Christian Faith Fellowship Church, Zion, Illinois. Arrangements are entrusted to Westgate Funerals, 228 North Genesee, Waukegan, Illinois 847-662-8000

Miguel A. Baez
Miguel A. Baez, 80, of Waukegan, died Sunday, July 21, 2002 at the Pavilion Nursing Home in Waukegan.
He was born on October 18, 1921, in Cidra, Puerto Rico to Enrique Baez and Viciticion Rivera and attended schools there. In 1945 he married Juanita Rivera of Juncos, Puerto Rico.
In 1956 he moved his family to Waukegan. He was a member of the Puerto Rican Society and VFW. Before his employment at AMC he worked various jobs in Waukegan. He was employed by American Motors for 13 years as a welder on the assembly line and retired to 1986 to operate La Fe Botanica Store from 1986-1994.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Juanita, a daughter Carmen Perez of Kenosha and her husband Angelo, two sons, Henry Baez of Waukegan and his wife Rebecca, Evelio Baez of Waukegan and his wife Anne. Nine grandchildren, Belinda Metallo of Kenosha and her husband Joe and their two children Joe and Jakob, Nina Baez of Naperville, Jamie Baez of Waukegan and her daughter Madeline, Kimberly Perez of Kenosha, Vanessa Delapena of Waukegan and her husband David and their two children Niya and Noah, Jay Baez of Chicago and his wife Corina and their two children Melanie and Henry Jay, Michael Baez of Waukegan and his wife Cheryl and their two children Isabella and Analiese, Brandon Baez of Waukegan, Karrie Baez of Waukegan. Two nephews Raphael Perez of Waukegan and his wife Gladys and his family, Carlos Perez of Kenosha and his family, his sister Ester of Juncos, Puerto Rico and all her family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother.
Friends may call at the MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF WAUKEGAN, 1521 Washington St. from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2002. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with interment to follow at Northshore Garden of Memories.

Lester Eugene Baxter
Lester Eugene Baxter, 81, of Gurnee, IL, died on July 11, 2002, at the Terrace Nursing Home, Waukegan, IL.
He was born on July 1, 1921, in Millboro, South Dakota, to Ida Krauss Baxter and Floyd Lester Baxter.
Lester was the dear husband of Elizabeth Anne (Nancy) O'Connor who he married on January 14, 1944, in Wheaton, IL.
He is survived by three sisters, Vivian Strege of Harmony, IN, Arlene Ortman of Round Lake, IL and Laura May Froberg of Buffalo Grove, IL, and one brother, Donald E. Baxter of La Victoria, Venezuela, South America. One brother, Wayne Baxter, is deceased
Lester graduated from Millboro, South Dakota, High School and the Watchtower Bible School of Gilead in New York, in 1952, where he was trained as a missionary.
He was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1939 and served as a full-time minister in the United States from 1941 to 1952, and as a missionary and traveling minister overseer in Venezuela, South America, from 1952 to 1985, then as a minister and elder in the South Spanish Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Waukegan, IL, from 1986 to 2002.
A Memorial Service will be held at Kingdom Hall, 225 Dilger Ave., Waukegan, IL, on Saturday, July 27, 2002 at 4:00 PM. Arrangements entrusted to STRANG FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, LTD., 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, Illinois 60030 (847) 223-8122.

Harry W. "Gabbe" Fiester Jr.
Harry W. "Gabbe" Fiester Jr., age 69, of Round Lake, died Monday, July 22, 2002, at his home. He was born December 15, 1932 to Harry W. and Missie (Miller) Fiester Sr. On December 22, 1982, he married Josephine Turner in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Formerly of Fox Lake, Mr. Fiester was a resident of Round Lake for the past 23 years. He was a dispatcher for the Great Lakes Fire Department for ten years. Previously, he was the proprietor of Fiester Seal Coating and Road Surfacing Materials. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge No. 525 in Antioch. Among his enjoyments, he restored cars from the 50's and 60's, and listened to old music on the juke box.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine; a daughter, Kitty, of Round Lake; 3 grandchildren, Kristine (Del) Van Vleet of San Diego, California, Robert (Colleen) Oehme of Amherst, Wisconsin, and Dale (Lori) Oehme of Silver Lake, Wisconsin; 6 great grandchildren, Chad, Lyndsey, Krystal, Sydney, Kristina and Samantha; a brother, Bernard (Susan) Neuner of Schaumburg; and a sister, Bernadine Miller of Chicago.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, June.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2002 at JUSTEN'S ROUND LAKE FUNERAL HOME, 222 N. Rosedale Court, Round Lake. Friends may also call Friday, July 26, at the funeral home from 8:30 a.m. until prayers are said at 9:30 a.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 114 N. Lincoln Avenue, Round Lake, with the Rev. Robert Fitzpatrick officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph cemetery, Round Lake. Memorials may be made to the family or to Condell Hospice, 115 W. Anthony S. Gelbudas
Anthony S. Gelbudas, 82, of Waukegan, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2002 at Aurora Medical Center. He was born July 15, 1920 in Waukegan and was a member of Holy Family Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II and retired from American Steel and Wire as a crane operator after 30 years of employment. He had a love for airplanes.
Survivors include his wife Helen; 1 son Tom Gelbudas of Waukegan; 2 daughters Diane (Jim) Kelley of Winthrop Harbor and Mary (Fred) Sebben of Wadsworth; 1 granddaughter Diana (Mike) Winkler of Zion; 1 grandson Tony Kelley of Winthrop Harbor; 2 great-grandchildren Devin and Alysa Winkler; 1 nephew Joseph (Vicki) Gelbudas; 1 brother-in-law, Henry (Bea) Kazmierzak; and 1 sister-in-law Amelia Gelbudas of North Chicago. He was preceded in death by 1 brother Joseph in 1992.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2002 at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF WAUKEGAN, 1521 Washington St. Burial will be at St. Mary's cemetery in Waukegan. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Holy Family Church.

William E. Hartnett
William E. Hartnett, 82, Attorney, at his home in Lake Geneva, WI, formerly of Grayslake, IL.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Merry Alice; and his sisters, Jean Swain and Betty Goldsby.
Survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty; his children, Emilie (Clark) Downs of Chevy Chase, MD, Jeffrey E. (Diana) Hartnett of St. Louis, MO, William R. (Patricia) Hartnett of Lake Forest, IL and Elizabeth A. (Matthew White) Hartnett of Silver Springs, MD; and 11 grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, July 31, 2002 at St. Francis De Sales Church, 148 W. Main Street, Lake Geneva, WI, 262-248-8524. Florence M. Hook
Florence M. Hook, age 95, of Grayslake, died on Friday July 19, 2002 at Westminster Oaks in Tallahassee, Florida where she lived the past three years. Florence was born on September 21, 1906 in Geneva, Illinois and grew up with her three Olson brothers and five sisters on a farm near Rosecrans, IL. She married Cecil H. Hook, of Grayslake, on August 6, 1931. Cec and Florence owned and operated Cec's Drugstore in the 1950's and 60's. Florence cherished family and friends, the community of Grayslake and a life of sharing. Of special meaning where her longtime membership and activity in the United Protestant Church, where she was the first President of the Women's group, as well as a Sunday School teacher, board member, and greeter.
She is survived by her children Beverly and Tom Alfredson of Tallahassee, Florida, Jay and Joan Hook of Maple City, Michigan, and Joy and Peter Dohr of Madison, Wisconsin, and their families, a sister-in-law, Grace (Roy) Olson, formerly of Waukegan and currently living in San Marcos, Texas, and many nieces and nephews. Florence loved being the devoted, interested Grandmother of ten (10) grandchildren and their spouses, and 26 great-grandchildren. Their words speak for all: "She always makes me feel good. She let's me know how special I am to her. She makes life special because of her presence."
Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2002 at the United Protestant Church, 54 South Whitney St., Grayslake, IL 60030 followed by funeral services at 11:30 a.m. with the Reverends Orrell Ruth and Matthew Hook officiating. Interment will follow at Avon Centre cemetery in Grayslake. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the United Protestant Church. Frank E. Noel
Frank E. Noel, 85, formerly of Norridge, IL, died June 10 at Edward Hines V.A. Hospital. He was retired from Montgomery Wards in 1971 after 25 years of service.
He is survived by a step-daughter Jeanette (James) Letarte; grandsons James (Judy) and Paul (Kathy); and great grandfather of six; brother James (Joann) Noel; 3 nephews; 1 grandniece and his ex-wife Josephine.
He was preceded in death by his father Elmer, mother Pearl and brother Earnest.
Memorial services have already held.

Franklin Pickles
Franklin Pickles, beloved brother of Heather (Thom) Sczygielski, passed away from a heart attack on July 12, 2002. He was laid to rest in White Chapel cemetery, in the Detroit area, along with his parents and sister who preceded him. He was employed for over 30 years as a hospital orderly.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 5, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. to honor his memory at St. Dismas Catholic Church, 2600 Sunset Ave., Waukegan, Ill. Contributions in his name may be made to your favorite charity.

Carl Edward Scheske
Carl Edward Scheske, 77, of Antioch, IL, died Sunday, July 21, 2002 at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC. Carl was a WWII veteran who served in the Navy Hospital Corp., was Treasurer of the Arlington Heights Park District for 15 years, and was a charter member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Arlington Heights. He and his wife Alice were very active for many years in Square Dancing and 4-H. Carl worked for Quaker Industries in Antioch for 24 years. He had been attending the Milburn Congregational United Church of Christ in Milburn, IL for the last 17 years. Carl volunteered at Victory Lakes Continuing Care Center in Lindenhurst for 13 years, was a voting judge in Antioch for many years, and a member of PM&L; Theatre.
Carl is survived by his wife, Alice (Tideman) of 56 years, sister Betty Scheske of Roseville, IL, 2 sons, Joseph (Diane) of Cary, IL, Kenelm (Lorrie Ferguson) of Silver Lake, WI and 2 daughters, Rosemary Nelson (Joseph) of Charlotte, NC and Rosline Ohlinger (James) of Antioch, IL and four grandchildren, Jay Scheske, Katie, Emma and Ben Nelson.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2002 at Milburn Congregational United Church of Christ in Milburn, IL (Grass Lake Rd. & Rt. 45). Memorials may be made to the Milburn Congregational Church, or the Mecklenburg County Fire Department #23, 7400 East W T Harris Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28227. Carolina Funeral & Cremation Center, Charlotte, NC is entrusted with arrangements.

Daniel Joseph Short
Daniel Joseph Short, age 55, of Redlands, CA, formerly of Waukegan, IL passed away July 17, 2002 as the result of a car accident. He was born June 30, 1947 in Waukegan, IL attended Waukegan Township High School. He moved to California in the early 1960's. He was an accomplished commercial building inspector and won many awards for his work. He loved to sail and enjoyed the outdoors.
He is survived by his sister, Alice (Michael) Gantar of Antioch, IL, a niece, two nephews, several cousins and his "adopted" family Melissa, Garrett and Trevor Scott of Redlands, CA and William and Sandy Merrill of Redlands, CA.
Dan was a generous man with a loving heart and leaves many friends throughout California that loved him and that he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Stella Short of Waukegan, IL.
Services will be held in Redlands, CA on August 4, 2002. Those who wish may make contributions to Blessed Trinity Food Pantry, 557 Lake Street, Antioch, IL 60002.

Loretta Sutkiewicz
Loretta Sutkiewicz, 98, of Park City passed away Monday, July 22, 2002 at St. Therese Medical Center in Waukegan. Born August 27, 1903 in Turkey Run, PA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Yeromin and Antionette Siecienski.
Formerly of Mosinee, WI moving to Chicago at the age of 16, residing in Park City in 1939 with her 4 children and her late husband Lambert Sutkiewicz whom she wed in 1924.
She leaves her children Leona E. Ponssi of Highland Park, Lambert J. (Jeanette) of Waukesha, WI, Lorraine Ford of Park City and Sylvia Flynn of Alexandria, LA; many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters.
Mass of the resurrection will be celebrated on Friday, July 26, 2002 at 10:00 AM at St. Gilbert Catholic Church, 301 Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL 60030. Interment will follow at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville. Friends of the family may visit at the STRANG FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL 60030 on Thursday from 5:00 to 9:00 PM.
