Michael J. Quinn
Michael (Mickey) J. Quinn, age 68, of Zion passed away March 29, 2002 at his home. He was born February 17, 1934 in Lake Forest, IL and has been a resident of the Zion area for the past 22 years. He was an avid fisherman and a member of Trout Unlimited, and enjoyed country western dancing.
Mickey is survived by his 3 children, Lindy (Paul) Andersen of Lake Forest, IL, Scott (Sabrina) Quinn of Spring Grove, IL and Joanne (Brian) Godzicki of Grayslake, IL; 5 grandchildren, Kerstin, Kelsey, Mitchell, Shane and Samantha; a sister, Patricia Sikula of Lake Bluff, IL; his very special friend Carol G. Sturtevant of Gurnee, IL and many nieces and nephews.

Ernest W. Rowland
Ernest W. "Bill" Rowland, 80, of Spring, Texas formerly of Grayslake passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2002 at the Woodlands Health Care Center in Woodlands Texas. Born June 12, 1921 in Lemar, CO, he was the son of the late Clarence Rowland and Velma VanWey. Bill worked most of his life as a pipefitter and recently celebrated his 50th anniversary with the Steam and Pipe Fitters Union Local # 597 of Chicago.
He leaves his daughter Billie (Robert) Becnel of Spring, Texas; son Dave (Tess) Rowland of Waterman, IL; 3 grandchildren Geraldine, Brian and Daniel; and 1 great grandson Glen. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Jane Rowland on September 22, 2000; son Dennis Rowland in 1963 and a grandson Christopher in 1980.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 (Noon) Saturday, April 13, 2002 at the STRANG FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL 60030 with the Rev. Lisle J. Kauffman of the Calvary Presbyterian Church of Round Lake officiating. Interment will follow at the Avon Centre cemetery in Grayslake. Friends of the family may visit at the funeral chapel on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services.

Carrie Estella Spruille
Carrie Estella Spruille was born on May 14, 1930 in Fayette, Mississippi to Cleveland Thomas and Anna Jacobs. Carrie and Louis Spruille was united in matrimony on July 29, 1961. She was a resident of Waukegan since 1968. She departed from this life April 9, 2002 at Highland Park Hospital, Highland Park, Illinois. She retired from Lake Forest Hospital in 1971. She served as a faithful member on the Mother's Board at Christian Love Baptist Church in Zion, IL.
She leaves to cherish her memory, four daughters Maxine Thomas of Libertyville, IL, Luticia Spruille of Vicksberg, Mississippi, Linda (L.H.) Brown of North Chicago, IL, Bobbie Spruille of Port Gibson, Mississippi, four sons, Lester Spruille, Eugene Spruille, Glenn (Judy) Spruille, all of Waukegan, IL and Lewis Spruille Jr. of Port Gibson, Mississippi. She also leaves 22 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 1 sister-in-law Carolyn Jackson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents Cleveland Thomas and Anna Thomas, her husband Lewis Spruille, 5 brothers Dan Thomas, John Thomas, Willie Sims, Sie Jackson, J.C. Jacobs and one sister, Zadie Marshall, one son Ronnie Spruille and one daughter Patricia Spruille.
Service will be held Saturday, April 13, 2002 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 2500 30th St., Zion, IL, Rev. B.J. Gaston Pastor, Pastor Norman Taylor officiating. Kenneth C. Stranckmeyer
Kenneth C. Stranckmeyer, 78, of Sandwich, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving wife and four children on Thursday, April 11, 2002.
He was born October 23, 1923 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of the late Fredrick and Laura (Inman) Stranckmeyer.
Kenneth was a graduate of Quincy High School. He married the former Mary Thornton in Mt. Sterling, IL on May 27, 1947. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk, IL. One of Kenneth's proudest moments was establishing a visitation ministry to the sick parishioners of the St. John the Baptist Parish. He also served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. John the Baptist Church as well as St. Rita of Cascia Catholic Church in Aurora where he also was the Athletic Director and Basketball Coach at the school.
He worked in marketing and sales for the Consolidated Cigar Corporation for 35 years. Kenneth proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post in Somonauk. He was also a member of the Aurora Golden K (Kiwanis) Club in Aurora.
Survivors include his loving wife, Mary (Thornton) Stranckmeyer of Sandwich; his beloved children, Janis (Phil) Blatner of Oswego, Joyce (John) DeBernardis of Lindenhurst, Mary (Gary) Avram of Sugar Grove and Jeffrey Stranckmeyer of Mahomet, IL; 12 grandchildren, Peter (Angela), Joshua, Melissa (Don), Billy (Laurie), Shawn, Adam, Christopher, Ashley, Kristie, Lauren, Bobby and Joey; two great grandchildren, Elaina and Julianne; his brothers, and sisters, James and Patricia Bernhardt, Ted and Betty Hollembeak, Jerry and Sue Mast and Roger Thornton.
In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by his sisters, Ellamae (Jake) Aubert and Helen Thornton.
A Prayer Service will be conducted at 9:30 AM on Monday, April 15, 2002 from The Healy Chapel, 370 Division Dr., Sugar Grove to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk for a 10:30 AM Funeral Mass. Fr. Donald DeSalvo will officiate. Interment will be private. Visitation will take place from 3 to 8 PM on Sunday, April 14 at The Healy Chapel, Sugar Grove. Contributions in Mr. Stranckmeyer's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Vitas Hospice Care.

Wesley L. Anderson
Wesley L. Anderson was born February 15, 1928 on the family farm on W. 33rd St., Zion, Illinois. He was the second of four children of Leontine and Milton Anderson. He graduated from Zion-Benton High School in 1946 and attended Greer Technical Training Institute in Chicago. He married Joyce Leinweber of Kenosha in 1950 and shortly after they moved to Southern California, where he resided until his death on February 19, 2003. Joyce and Wes were blessed with four children, who survive. Kay (Scott) Henrickson of Long Beach, CA, Jill McCafferty of Long Beach, CA, Jack (Sharon) Anderson of Wahiawa, HI, and Kip Anderson of Honolulu, HI. In June 1961, he married Wanda Bowman. Survivors include stepsons Jerry Bowman (Sherry) of Omaha, NE and Roger Bowman and stepdaughter Marsha (Chuck) of Searcy, AR. From these marriages he was blessed with four grandsons, one granddaughter, four step grandsons, two step granddaughters and many nieces and nephews. Survivors also include sisters Rachel (Earl) Richardson of Greenwood, WI, Irene (Sydney) Christophersen of Rockton, IL, and brother Donald (Linda) Anderson of Madison, WI.
In Southern California he worked for many years in the oil fields as a truck driver. He was making plans to move back to Illinois the last week of February, but the Lord took him to Heaven first. Wanda and Wes were active members of the Paramount United Methodist Church, and Wes's faith in his Savior was steadfast and his fellowship with God brought him joy and comfort. He always shared his faith with others.
He was preceded in death by his wife Wanda in March 2002, and his parents, Milton and Leontine Anderson.
Friends and family gathered for memorial services at the Paramount United Methodist Church, Paramount, CA on February 26, 2003 with Rev. Abel S. Lara officiating.

Vern Dorothy Anglim
Vern Dorothy Anglim, 96 years old of Antioch, formerly of the Chicago area passed away Thursday, April 10, 2003 at Hillcrest Nursing Center, Round Lake Beach, IL. She was born July 14, 1906 in Chicago, the daughter of the late Jacob B. and Ida (Etzkorn) Suerth. She had lived in Chicago most of her life, moving to Libertyville in 1991 and to Antioch in 1997 where she was a member of St. Peter Church. Vern was a graduate of Worsham College of Mortuary Science and was a funeral director from 1929 until 1960. Later she worked for C W Motor Transport as a secretary and then for the Chicago Police Department at 11th and State in the fingerprint department.
On February 5, 1938 she married Harold A. Anglim in Chicago and he preceded her in death on December 13, 1960.
Survivors include her son, Reverend Ronald H. Anglim of Antioch; one brother, Elmer (Betty) Suerth of Downers Grove, IL and three nephews, Thomas, William and John. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Suerth and a niece, Mary Beth.
Funeral services with Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 7:30 PM Tuesday, April 15, 2003 at St. Peter Church, 557 Lake St., Antioch, IL. Interment service will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday in the chapel at St. Boniface cemetery, Chicago. Visitation will be held at the church from 4 until 7 PM Tuesday. Those desiring may make contributions to the Vitas Hospice, 580 Waters Edge Dr., Suite 100, Lombard, IL 60148 or for Masses in her memory. STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH handled the arrangements.

Mary E. Archdale
Mary E. Archdale, 95, a lifelong resident of Waukegan passed away on Friday, April 11, 2003 at Victory Memorial Hospital. She was born April 27, 1907 in Waukegan.
Mary was a member of St. Dismas Parish. He hobby was baking and making sure the people around her had some. She also enjoyed ceramics and was very creative when it came to creating holiday decorations. She worked at American Steel and Wire Company for 30 years and later worked for her brothers at Archdale's Restaurant.
Survivors include her brother, George Archdale; and her sister, Virginia Gould; also survived by a niece; and three nephews, Carol Butkus, Raymond Butkus, Robert Archdale and Phil Archdale; and many loving great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Anna (nee Bomkamp) Archdale; two brothers, Theodore Archdale and Walter Archdale.
Friends may call at PETERSON & PATCH FUNERAL HOME, 408 N. Sheridan Rd, Waukegan on Monday, April 14, 2003 from 6 to 8 PM. Interment will be at Ascension cemetery, Libertyville. Funeral Mass on Tuesday is pending.

William E. Brown, Sr.
William E. Brown, Sr., of Perkasie, PA, and formerly of Waukegan, IL, Spooner, WI, and Goldsboro, NC, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at his residence. He was 79.
He was the husband of the late Donna (Curnes) Brown who died in 1992.
Born in Elsberry, MO, he was the son of the late Walton Smith and Ellen (Damron) Brown.
Mr. Brown had worked as a custodian for the Spooner Wisconsin School District for 10 years until retiring in 1984. Previously, he had worked for the Illinois Road Maintenance Department, Lake County, IL, for 10 years, and the Abbott Laboratories, North Chicago, IL, for 11 years. Prior to and after World War II, he was employed as a truck driver for Coca Cola, Gurnee, IL, for 5 years.
Mr. Brown was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, serving as a medical technician on a hospital ship.
He is survived by a son, William Eugene Brown, Jr. and his wife Connie, of Goldsboro, NC; a daughter, Marlene H. Ford and her husband John Pat, of Perkasie, PA; eight grandchildren, Damian Ford and his wife Lauren, of Furlong, PA, Justin Ford and his wife Stacy, of California, Joliene Ford, of Brooklyn, NY, Aaron Ford and his wife Kelly, of Sellersville, PA, Roy Brown, of North Carolina, Jason Brown and his wife Adrienne, of Goldsboro, Leslie Brown, of Goldsboro, and Carey Brown, of Illinois; and seven great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Donald Walton Brown, a great grandchild, Alyssa Brown, a brother, Charles Brown, and a sister, Emma Bosovsky.
Mr. Brown has donated his body to the Anatomical Society of Philadelphia. Services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to Grand View Hospice, 700 Lawn Avenue, Sellersville, PA 18960.

Verner "Ben" Haapanen
Verner "Ben" Haapanen, 87, of Waukegan and Lake Worth, Florida, died on Tuesday, April 8, 2003 at the JFK Medical Center in Lake Worth, Florida following complications from surgery.
Ben was born June 11, 1915 in Finlayson, Minnesota. For over 30 years, Ben was employed by the Cooperative Trading Company, in both Finlayson, Minnesota and Waukegan, Illinois. He worked as a milkman and later the manager of the retail grocery store. After the Coop's closing, Ben worked for Johnson Motors for ten years, finally retiring in 1980. Ben and Irene spent 23 retired years wintering in Lake Worth, Florida, while maintaining their home in Waukegan. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Waukegan for 55 years.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Irene; two sons, Jerry (Katherine) Haapanen of Waukegan and Richard (Linda) Haapanen of Beach Park; and a daughter, Beatrice Haapanen of Chicago. Ben is also survived by five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Don and Howard Haapanen and John and Herman Autio; and a sister, Mary Autio Herald.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2003 at 11 AM at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 3350 N. Delany Rd, Waukegan with Pastor Jeffrey Koth officiating. Private interment will follow at North Shore Garden of Memories, North Chicago.
Visitation will be Monday, April 14, 2003 from 6 to 9 PM at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Rd, Zion, and at the church on Tuesday from 10 to 11 AM preceding the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Waukegan, Illinois.

Carrie L. Knopf
Carrie L. Knopf, 33, of Round Lake Beach, passed away at St. Therese Medical Center in Waukegan on April 10, 2003. She was born in Chicago on May 19, 1969 to Bonita (nee Brady) and Larry Knopf of Round Lake Beach.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her sister Laurie (George) Weber of Round Lake; and her brother, Christopher Knopf of Round Lake.
Funeral service is Sunday, April 13, 2003 at 4PM at STRANG FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, LTD., 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL 60030. Visitation is on Sunday from 2PM until the time of services. Frank Miyamoto
Frank Miyamoto, 76, of Gurnee, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2003 at Lake Forest Hospital. He was born August 15, 1926 in Hiroshima, Japan and was a member of St. Patrick's Church. He loved car racing and was a member of Sports Club Car of America. Frank served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and retired from Dynapar Corp. after 31 years of service.
Survivors include the love of his life, his wife Terry; five step-children Curt Higgins, Lisa (Terry) Montpas, Elaine (Steve) Griffin, Sean (Lori) Higgins, and Kelly (Sue) Higgins; nine grandchildren, Amy, Michele, Matthew, David, Robbie, Holli, Krista, Alex, and Kylee; one brother James (Amy) Miyamoto; one sister Anne Marie Nakamura; nieces and nephews, Gail (Bill), Claire (Jack), Guy (Ann), Kathy, Joan (Tim), David (Terri), Susan, and Bob (Diana). He was preceded in death by his parents Shunzo and Yoshiye, and a brother-in-law Mark Nakamura.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2003 at St. Patrick's Church, 15000 W. Wadsworth Rd., Wadsworth, IL. Burial will be private. Visitation is from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF GURNEE, 305 cemetery Rd. (847) 336-0127.

Robert G. Oliver
Robert G. Oliver, 77, of Homosassa, FL, Hot Springs Village, AR and formerly Lake Forest, IL, died peacefully, with his family by his side, Wednesday, April 9 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Mr. Oliver was a graduate of Lake Forest High School and served his country faithfully as a Marine during World War II. He worked as a Carpenter Contractor during his lifetime, was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest, and was a Past-Commander and lifetime member of American Legion Post 264 of Lake Forest.
Mr. Oliver was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Lela, and his wife Elizabeth P. Oliver. He is survived by his two sons, David and Paul, both of Homosassa, FL, his sister Dorothy Humphreys of Asheville, N.C., two grandchildren, one great grandson, six nephews and one niece.
A graveside service will be held during the summer. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Citrus County, FL, 3350 W. Audubon Park Path, Lecanto, FL 34461.

Mary Sadler
Mary Sadler, 87 years old passed away on April 11, 2003 of lymphoma. She was a life long resident of Waukegan, IL. Mary had a passion for gardening and loved to play Cribbage. She was a member of the Waukegan Senior Center and the Illinois Dunes Association.
She is survived by one daughter Karen (Phillip) Sparkes, one grandson Wesley Sparkes, her sister Helen Washburn, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Dean, her sister Katherine and her brothers Michail and Nick
Donations may be made in her name to Vista Star Hospice or The Waukegan Senior Center.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 13, 2003 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM and on Monday from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at MARSH FUNERAL HOME, 1521 Washington St., Waukegan, IL 60085 (847) 336-0127.
Service will be Monday at 10:00 AM at Marsh Funeral Home; burial will be at Warren cemetery.

Betty Lou Smith
Betty Lou Smith, 68, of Las Vegas, Nevada and formerly of this area, died on Thursday, April 10, 2003 at Midwestern Regional Medical Center, Zion.
Betty Lou was born April 22, 1934 in Chicago. She was a 35 year employee of Illinois Bell Telephone Company, retiring 14 years ago and she was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was also a member of the Las Vegas Garden Club, was Past President and currently the Vice President of the Iris Society of Las Vegas and was a member of the National Iris Society of America where she was honored by receiving national recognition for the formation of an educational Iris program for elementary school children, something she was very proud of.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Robert; two sons James (Mary) Smith of Winthrop Harbor and Joseph (Michelle) Smith of Spring Grove, Illinois; three grandchildren Julia Michelle (Joseph) Lobono, Casey and Nikki Smith; two great-grandchildren Tyler and Chloe; and one sister Louise (Richard) Whiteside of Winthrop Harbor. She was preceded in death by two brothers John Lents and William Lents and by her parents Fred and Bertha Lents.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, with Pastor Gary Hougen of Winthrop Harbor United Methodist Church officiating. Private cremation will follow. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 15th, from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home. Memorial donations to the American Cancer Society have been suggested. Lori Sue Smith
Lori Sue Smith, age 42, of Round Lake Beach, died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at Highland Park Hospital in Highland Park.
She was born July 7, 1960 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Lawrence and Virginia (Lowe) Robleske. On May 2, 1983, she married Jeffrey Smith in Grand Rapids.
Lori was a former resident of Wyoming, Michigan, where she was employed in the security department of both Smiths Industries and Lakes Industries. She relocated to Round Lake Beach in 1994, and was employed by the security department of Gurnee Mills.
She was a member of Prince of Peace Church in Lake Villa.
Survivors include her husband of 19 years, Jeffrey; a son, Nicholas, and a daughter, Brooke, all of Round Lake Beach; a sister, Cheryl Bogianno; three brothers, Eric, Patrick, and Barry Robleske, all of the Grand Rapids, Michigan area; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Russell and Shirley Smith and a sister-in-law, Susan Smith, all of Byron Center, MI; a brother-in-law, Daniel (Kim) Smith of Grand Rapids; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2003, at JUSTEN'S ROUND LAKE FUNERAL HOME, 222 North Rosedale Court (at Cedar Lake Road), Round Lake, IL 60073.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, April 14, and will continue on Tuesday, April 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Ronan-Vanderpool-Stegenga Funeral Home, 3131 S. Division Ave., Wyoming, Michigan.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at St. John Vianney Church, 4101 Clyde Park Avenue SW, Wyoming, Michigan.
Interment will be in Rosedale Memorial Park, Grand Rapids.
