Helen H. Leben
Helen H. Leben, 97, of North Chicago, IL passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2005 at Rolling Hills Manor in Zion. Born to Katherine and Peter Matuszewski on August 18, 1907, she was the youngest of seven children. Her siblings, Victoria, Stella, Frank, Stanley, Harriet and Andrew, were born in Poland. Helen was born shortly after her family settled in North Chicago. IL where she was a lifelong resident. She married Stanley Leben, her husband of 61 years, on September 16, 1933.
Although Helen has now taken her place as an angel, to her family and friends, she was also an angel while on earth. As a dedicated wife and mother with a gentle, caring nature, she lovingly and selflessly gave of herself whenever needed to her children, grandchildren, neighbors, and in later years, to care for her mother-in-law, Margaret and her beloved husband, Stanley.
She loved to socialize with friends and in her senior years she enjoyed many activities as a member of the Slovenic Nathional Home Seniors, Foss Park Seniors and the Retired Steelworkers. She was a member of the former Mother of God Church and currently Queen of Peace Church.
Helen is survived by her three loving children, Robert Leben of North Chicago, Bernice (Bill) Jordan of Grayslake, IL and Carol Leben (David Scafidi) of Sachse, TX; six grandchildren, Dean (Michelle) Jordan, Jacquelyn (Kevin) Quinn, Gina (Chuck) Brandal, Keith Leben, Kevin Leben and Jason (Natalie) Letkey; 10 great grandchildren, Lauren and Alec Jordan, Allyson and Andrew Brandal, Jessica and Sarah Quinn, Alex Letkey and Jennette, Bridgette and Nicholas Leben; and brother and sister-in-law, Alice and Joseph Leben; and sister-in-law, Celia Matuszewski; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; her grandson, Karl Leben; her mother and father; and brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 14th Street, North Chicago, IL at 9 AM on Tuesday, March 29, 2005. Funeral Mass will follow beginning at 10 AM with interment to follow at Ascension cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Star Hospice, 2615 Washington St., Waukegan, IL, 60085, 847-360-2220 would be appreciated.

Thomas P. Moran
Thomas P. Moran, 31, of Gurnee, died Friday, March 25, 2005 at his home. He was born February 18, 1974 in Waukegan and was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Gurnee.
Thomas is survived by his mother, Maxine Moran; three brothers, Timothy (Cheryl) Moran of Lindenhurst, IL, Tony (Sandra) Moran of Lindenhurst, IL, and David (Kathy) Malizia of Gurnee of Gurnee, IL; two sisters, Kimberly Malizia of Gurnee, IL and Susan Malizia of Lake Forest, IL; maternal grandparent, Helen Cannon of Portland, OR; two aunts, Agnes (Gene) Cox of Germantown, OH and Judy Mixan of Portland, OR; nine nieces and nephews and several cousins also survive.
Thomas was preceded in death by his father, Anthony, October 5, 1998; and his paternal grandmother, February 2, 2005.
Services at St. Paul the Apostle Church will be private.
Salata Funeral Home of Gurnee, 4190 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee, was privileged to serve the family.

Elizabeth W. Polejewski
Elizabeth W. Polejewski, 85, of Round Lake Beach passed away Friday, March 25, 2005 at Condell Medical Center. She was born February 18, 1920 in Chicago to George and Minnie (Staack) Vandre On July 25, 1942, she married Edward Polejewski, Sr, at St. Phillipus Church in Chicago.
Formerly of Chicago, Elizabeth moved with her husband to the Round Lake area in 1952. She was a nurse's aide at Victory Hospital for 25 years, and retired in 1980.
She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who greatly treasured spending time with her family.
Survivors include four children, Edward "Bud" (Jessica) Polejewski Jr. of Round Lake, Phyllis Creek of Mesa, Arizona, Larry Polejewski of Round Lake Beach and Karen (Michael) Taylor of Trevor, Wisconsin; 10 grandchildren, John Sr. (Margie), Gary, Alan (Lori), David, Earl Jr., Eddie, Rob, Ginger, Holland and Kylie; six great grandchildren; three sisters, Wilma (the late Harold) Schippits of Oak Lawn, Clara (the late Ellis) Roose of Rockford and Marion (the late Sherman) Deckrow of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward Polejewski Sr. on June 30, 1999; her son-in-law, Earl Creek on October 25, 1988; and infant daughter, Connie Polejewski; two brothers, Frederick and George; and two sisters, Henrietta and Katherine.
The visitation will be from 4 until 8 PM Thursday, March 31, 2005 at JUSTEN'S ROUND LAKE FUNERAL HOME, 222 N. Rosedale Ct., Round Lake, IL, 60073
The funeral service will be at 10 AM Friday April 1, 2005 at the funeral home with the Rev. Lisle Kauffman of Calvary Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will be at Avon Centre cemetery, Rt. 83 and Shorewood Road, Grayslake. Romas J. Saulius
Romas J. Saulius, 85, of Waukegan, IL passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2005 at home. He was born on October 16, 1919 in Lithuania. He retired in 1985 from Johns Manville after 30 years of employment. Romas was a member of the Lithuanian Society and also a long time parishioner of Holy Family Church in Waukegan.
He is survived by his wife, Lidia (nee Stoltengofas); a son, Ed (Elaine) Saulius of Waukegan; a daughter, Ilona (the late John) Hirn of Waukegan; grandchildren, Christina Hirn of Libertyville, IL and Joseph Hirn of Chicago, IL; and a brother-in-law, George (Roma) Stoltengofas.
He was preceded in death by a son, Rimantas Saulius; his parents, Juozas and Ona (nee Duleba) Saulius; two brothers; and four sisters.
The Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at 11 AM at BRADLEY FUNERAL HOME, 313 10th St., North Chicago, IL, Fr. Sergio Solis officiating. He will be laid to rest at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville, IL. Visitation will be on Monday, March 28, 2005 from 5 to 8 PM at the funeral home. Jessie E. Smith
Born in Jackson, MS, to James Smith Jr. and Mattie Jackson on January 1, 1919, relocated to Illinois in 1954, resided in Waukegan, IL for 51 years. He was employed at Outboard Marine Corporation for 32 years; retired for 20 years. Jessie E. Smith dies March 25, 2005. He was married to Geraldine Smith and had (4) children with deceased wife Margaret Burton-Smith; Mrs. Jessie Mae Melendez (Ruby) of Minnesota, Mr. Bobby Smith (Carolyn) of Wisconsin, Ms. Margaret Marlow of Arizona and Ms. Carolyn Allen of Georgia; 12 Grandchildren; 22 Great grandchildren and 1 Great-Great grandchild; 3 sisters, Josephine Banks of Mississippi, Louise Shepard of Illinois and Pricilla Andersen of Illinois and a host of nieces and nephews.

Myrtle I. Topel
Myrtle I. Topel (nee Jerde), 79, passed away March 21, 2005. She was born on November 2, 1925 in Antioch, IL. Her husband, William H. Topel preceded her in death in 1985. They owned and operated Dunkin Donuts on Grand Avenue in Waukegan, IL., until retirement in Florida. Myrtle worked for the State of Illinois as an Adjudicator and later worked at Washington School in Waukegan, in the Food Service Department. She is a past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 281 in Waukegan, and a member of the 40&8 Voiture 1580.
She is survived by her children, Bonnie (Vincent) Perry of Waukegan and Robert (Caroline) Topel of Charlotte, NC; five grandchildren, Thomas and Edward Perry, Leslie Topel, Roberta Burgess and Melinda Hailey. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; three brothers, Eugene, Harley and Larry Jerde; and two sisters, Marlene VanPatten and Shirley Krapidlowski.
Friends of the family may visit on Sunday, March 27, 2005 from 5-7 PM at MARSH FUNERAL HOME, 305 cemetery Rd., Gurnee, IL. Funeral Service will immediately follow, beginning at 7 PM. Carol J. Vasey
Carol J. Vasey, age 67, of Lake Villa, IL, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2005, at the Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL.
She was born in Chicago, IL on March 25, 1938, the daughter of the late Albert and Ethel Behning. She was a resident of the Lake Villa area for the past 32 years and was a retired employee of Allendale School with 27 years of service.
She is survived by her children, Keith J. Blake of Kentucky, Karen Brady of Illinois and Cindy (Stanley Burnicks) Braski of Mundelein, IL; also surviving are 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lori Lee Kieffer, and three brothers and two sisters.

James F. Wheeler
James F. Wheeler, 51, of Zion, died on March 23, 2005.
James was born January 29, 1954 in Bloomington, Illinois and has lived in Zion for the past 17 years. He was a member of Christ Community Church of Zion, where he taught third and fourth grade Sunday School and he was employed for the past 23 years with Volkswagen of America in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Jayne; children, Clark, Candace and Crystal Wheeler, all of Zion; his mother, Thelma Klockenga of Bloomington, Illinois; brother and sisters, Frances (Rob) Gorham, Randy Klockenga and Sandra Klockenga, all of Bloomington, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Penny Wheeler of Altenburg, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond and his father, James Wheeler.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2005 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, where a funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. John Wiziarde officiating. Interment will be Thursday, March 31st, at 2:00 p.m. at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Bloomington, Illinois.

Andrew J. Yonke
Following a short illness, Andrew John Yonke, of Zion, IL went home to be with his Lord on Monday, March 21, 2005. Andy was born in Zion, IL on June 6, 1922. He married Shirlee Aileen Bennett of Zion in 1942.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a light bomber mechanic in the Philippines. Andy also served the city of Zion as a school board member and Police Commissioner; a member of the Jaycees, and the Zion American Legion Post #865.
For much of his life, he enjoyed bowling and golf. While he was not super-great at either, he did manage a 300 game in bowling and a hole-in-one in golf!
One thing Andy was great at was selling. For nearly 40 years, he gained the loyalty and confidence of his clientele as he sold cars for Dan Miller Motors in Zion and Marquardt Motors in Gurnee, IL. During those years, he won many awards and became one of the top salesmen in the Chicagoland area.
He is survived by his wife, Shirlee; his son and daughter-in-law, Kent and Sherry Yonke of Wheaton, IL; his daughter and son-in-law, Rande and Steve Mathers of Highland Village, TX; seven grandchildren, Joshua, Bree, Jeremiah, Zachary, Gabriel, Matthew and Christopher; one great-grandchild, Spin and another on the way! He leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews with special mention of Marty Guy of Beach Park, IL. Andy's only surviving sibling is Ruth Tarno of Phoenix, AZ.
We are sure his other two sisters, Lydia and Francis and his four brothers, Frank, Bill, Phil and Paul, along with his parents, Joseph and Pauline are rejoicing with him at their heavenly reunion.
Family will receive friends at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL on Monday, March 28 from 4 to 6 p.m. The Memorial service, officiated by Jon Wiziarde will follow immediately. Memorial gifts may be made to Christian Community Church for the Camp Zion program.

Kathyrn Burkey Henderson
Kathryn Burkey Henderson, 88, passed away peacefully and was welcomed into the loving arms of Our Lord on Sunday, March 26, where she was reunited with her family and many loved ones.
She leaves to celebrate her life a daughter, Jule (Doug) Groat of Antioch; sister, Jacqueline (Richard) Cleary of Northridge, CA; daughter-in-law, Judy Henderson of Gurnee; sister-in-law, Janie Burkey of St. Charles; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many loved ones.
Besides her parents, Si and Eva Burkey, she was preceded in death by her two sons, James and Jeffrey; daughter, Joyce; grandson, Jon; brother, Orville Burkey; sisters, Lorna Bieneman and JoAnne Champlin.
"Mrs. Kay's" family wishes to thank those "Special" caregivers and friends from Pebblebrook (Claridge) Healthcare, where she called home for many years. Also, a deep appreciation and thank you to two very special people from Season's Hospice who provided comfort both physically and spiritually.
Katy is never more than a thought or memory away. All the love she created is still here and in the hearts of those she touched through the years.
There will be no visitation. Interment will be private.
Thank you to everyone who has Katy and her family in their thoughts and prayers. As mother would say, "God's richest blessings to you."

Robert Lee Humphrey
Robert Lee Humphrey, age 77, of Zion died March 23, 2006 at Rolling Hills Manor in Zion. He was born September 16, 1928 in Waukegan to Stanley and Mildred (Ebert) Humphrey. He married Ruth E. Goodwin, who preceded him in death on September 7, 1994.
Robert was a veteran of the Army Air Corp. serving during WWII. He was a brick layer for 40 years and was also employed as an X-Ray technician for Johnson Motors in Waukegan for 15 years. His hobby was wood crafting, he especially enjoyed making bird houses and nativity sets. He was an avid fisherman, and also enjoyed bowling, snowmobiling, boating and water skiing.
Survivors include three children, Roberta (Eddie Powell) Humphrey of Beach Park, Sharon Humphrey of Zion, Robert Humphrey of Beach Park; five grandchildren, Kimberly (Thomas) Paglusch, Anthony (Carla) Hodgson, Heather Reed, Sheena Humphres, Jeremy (Mirah) Humphres; and 13 great-grandchildren, Marisa, Connor, Tarran, Hailee, Kaytlyn, Nathaniel, Ashton, Alexis, Monet, Taylor, Nick, Logan, Dylan; three brothers, Larry Humphrey of Waukegan, Leonard Humphrey of Decatur, Harold Humphrey of Zion; two sisters, Mildred Swanson of Zion and Helen Rasmussen of Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth; and his parents.
Visitation will be on Thursday, March 30, 2006 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Justen's Round Lake Funeral Home, 222 N. Rosedale Court, Round Lake, IL and the funeral service will follow at 8 pm on Thursday at the funeral home, Rev. Lisle Kauffman will officiate. Anthony S. Konopka
Anthony S. Konopka, 88, of Lindenhurst, IL, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan, IL.
He was born in Sobieski, WI on September 3, 1917, the son of the late Anna and John Konopka.
He was a resident of Lindenhurst for the past 32 years having moved there from Chicago. He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Lake Villa. He was founder and owner of Micro-Form, Inc. a manufacturing company until his retirement in 2001. On October 15, 1938, he married his wife, Annette.
He is survived by his wife, Annette; his son, Robert (Irma) of Florida; his grandson, Kenneth (Dawn Baldwin) of Wisconsin; his brothers, Al (Margie), Joe (Ursula), and Casey; and his sisters, Agnes (John) Held and Helen (Howard) LaPlante.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ben and Frank; and his sisters, Theresa Konopka and Mary Stock.
Funeral Services will begin at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, March 28, 2006, from RINGA FUNERAL HOME, 122 S. Milwaukee Ave. (Rte. 83), Lake Villa, IL 60046 to Prince of Peace Church for a 10 AM Funeral Mass. Interment at Ascension cemetery, Libertyville. Visitation on Monday, 4-8 PM at the funeral home.

Delphine D. Koski
Delphine Doris (Pellinen, Johnson) Koski (69) of Negaunee, MI (formerly of Waukegan) died peacefully in her home in the loving care of her family on March 25, 2006, succumbing to internal complications after suffering severe head trauma from a fall on the ice in January.
Born at home on January 22, 1937, the daughter of Kosti (Gus) and Olga (Lampinen) Pellinen of Rock MI, graduating from High School there in 1954, and later went to Elkhart University, IN, participating in Dental Hygienist training and applying her skills for 14 years in Waukegan, IL, and was currently enrolled as a student at Northern Michigan University.
She is survived by her husband of twenty-two years, Leslie Koski of Negaunee Township; son Neal (Cindy) Johnson; grandchildren: Erica Johnson and Brett Johnson of Gurnee, IL; daughter Tracie Swanson; granddaughter Kayla Yadon of Marquette Township; brother Roger (Rosetta) Pellinen of Escanaba and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother Robert; older brother Melvin (Mabel) Pellinen of Ishpeming, MI.; and former husband Ronald Johnson of Waukegan. She was a member of Lake Superior Christian Church of Marquette, MI.
Mrs. Koski loved her Ragdoll cat Piika, flower gardening, cooking, spending time at her camp on the Dead River Basin, babysitting and spending time with her grandchildren, and staying in touch with friends and family. Her life could be summarized as a person who gave the best of herself and always saw the best in everyone.
While living in Waukegan she was affiliated with many positions and programs. Some of those positions included: Secretary, then President of the Doctors Assistants Associations; Secretary, then President of the Parents Teachers Association, Oakdale School; Sales Manager for Vanda personal beauty products, earning numerous achievement awards including winning a car; an active member in the Elks Clubs affiliate Emblem Club as officer, public relations and Christmas Baskets Committee distribution; Volunteer mail delivery to patients at Victory Memorial Hospital; delivering Meals on Wheels program; Office Manager of Cinnamon Lake Towers apartment complex, and also worked for the Alcohol Treatment Center, Lake County (IL) Health Department, interviewing incoming patients and attending group sessions.
In 1983 she married Mr. Koski, residing in Negaunee Township. They enjoyed their time together at their camp on the Dead River Basin, traveling as far as Arizona, Florida and Canada, along with reunions with friends and classmates. She regularly volunteered for pledge drives to support the Marquette Co. Humane Society. Recently the majority of her time was dedicated to Alcoholics Anonymous as a counselor, and as a student at Northern Michigan University, and will posthumously be awarded a degree in Social Welfare in April, 2006. Mrs. Koski's recent dedication and passion was interacting with people in a meaningful way through counseling. She regularly spent her time in AA group meetings several times each week and personally provided substance abuse mentorship for dozens of people in the Marquette County area. During that time she helped change the lives of many, all of whom, along with her family, will miss her energetic and positive presence very much.
Visitation for Mrs. Koski will be held at Lake Superior Christian Church, 393 N. M553, Marquette, MI 49855, on Wednesday, March 29, 2006, from 2pm to 4pm, funeral services from 4pm to 5pm and fellowship from 5:30 until approximately 7:00pm. Burial will be private.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers can be made in Mrs. Koski's name to Marquette Co. Humane Society, 84 Snowfield Road, Negaunee, MI 49866 and to Lake Superior Hospice Association, 1414 W. Fair Ave., Ste 119, Marquette, MI 49855.

Ruth A. Landree
Ruth A. Landree, 67, of Las Vegas, Nevada passed away Wednesday March 22, 2006 at home. Born in Omaha, Nebraska December 8, 1938, daughter of the late Raymond and Emily Carbaugh. She lived in Las Vegas for 10 years and also resided many years in Waukegan, IL and Kenosha, WI. May 5, 1959 she married Robert Landree in Kenosha, WI.
Survived by her husband, Robert Landree; her children, Uylynnda, Robert, Julienne and Allen; and 5 grandchildren.
Funeral services were private.
