Kenneth Lorenson
Services for Kenneth B. Lorenson, 72, of Sullivan were held at noon Tuesday in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan. Burial with military rites was in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan.
He died at 11:33 a.m. Sunday, July 5, 1998 in St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur.
Born Nov. 21, 1925 in Lovington, he was a son of Herbert L. and Helen M. Brooks Lorenson. He was a retired Sullivan postmaster, a World War II Navy veteran, past commander of American Legion Post 68, member of the Sullivan VFW and the National Assn. of Postmasters of the United States. He married Jean Slevin Dec. 19, 1945 in Sullivan, and she survives.
Other survivors include a son, Jack L. Lorenson and wife Debi of Chatham; grandchildren, Jessica and Matthew Lorenson; and a sister-in-law, Michele Ashton and husband Dan of Effingham.
His parents and a sister, Pat Monroe, preceded him in death.
The family suggests memorials to the Titus Memorial Home or the American Legion Scholarship Fund.

Evelyn Shaw
Mrs. Glen (Evelyn Standley) Shaw, 76, of Sullivan died at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, 1998 in the Sullivan Living Center.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan with visitation one hour before the service. Burial will be in the Keller Cemetery in Lovington.
Mrs. Shaw was born Oct. 19, 1921 in Shelby County, the daughter of Claude and Gladys Weakly Standley. She married Glen E. Shaw Oct. 6, 1942 in St. Louis, Mo., and he died June 20, 1976.
Survivors include her son, Terry Shaw and wife Theresa of Sullivan; daughter, Gail Price and husband Allen of Mattoon; grandchildren, Brad Shaw and fiancee Elizabeth Kozarits of Chicago and Melanie Graven and husband Matthew of Mahomet.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family suggests memorials to the donor's choice.

Brenda Cook
Services for Brenda Sue Cook, 38, of Windsor were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home in Windsor. Burial was in the Windsor Cemetery.
She died at 9:10 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 1998 in the Douglas Living Center in Mattoon.
Born Jan. 7, 1960 in Effingham, she was a daughter of Richard L. and Virginia W. McWhorter Cook. She was a graduate of Windsor High School.
Survivors include her parents of Windsor; brothers, Gary of Mattoon, Richard "Gene" and Les, both of Windsor, Rick of Gays and Bryon of Sullivan; and her grandmother, Lorene Cook of Farina.
Memorials to the Windsor Harvest Picnic are suggested.

June Fleshner
Services for Mrs. Troy (E. June Chaney) Fleshner, 76, of Sullivan were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan. Burial was in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan.
She died at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, July 5, 1998 in the Sullivan Health Care Center in Sullivan.
Born June 14, 1922 in Allenville, she was a daughter of Logan and Carrie Spaugh Chaney. She had been a waitress at Hezzy's Restaurant in Sullivan and then worked at the Brown Shoe Co. in Sullivan. She married William "Button" Moran, and he preceded her in death. She married Troy Fleshner in Bethany, and he survives.
Other survivors include a son, Ron Moran of Sullivan; daughter, Janet Yantis of Bethany; stepsons, Clifford Fleshner of Reed Springs, Mo., Dale Fleshner of Bethany, David Fleshner of Effingham, James Fleshner of Sidney and Paul Fleshner of Sullivan; sisters, Earnestine Brown of Windsor, Delores Marshall of Bethany and Shirley Chaney of Charleston; seven grandchildren; 13 step grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
One son, one sister and three brothers preceded her in death.
The family suggests memorials to the DMH Hospice or the Bethany United Methodist Church.

`Dick' Harlin
Services for L.D. "Dick" Harlin, 58, of Sullivan were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan. Burial was in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan.
He died at 5:50 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 1998 in the Sullivan Living Center.
Born Aug. 30, 1939 in Red Boiling Springs, Tenn., he was a son of Coy Leon and Daisy Mae Vinson Harlin.
Survivors include his former wife, Violet Marie, whom he married Nov. 4, 1960; sons, Joey G. Harlin of Kentucky and Tommie L. Harlin of Mattoon; daughters, Susan Fowler of Lovington and Theresa G. Perry of Sullivan; brothers, J.T. Harlin of Oklahoma and Walter Lee Harlin of Nevada; sisters, Shirley Maxedon of Nevada and Maxine Collins of Sullivan; and 12 grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society.

Thurman Johns
Thurman H. Johns, 80, of Sullivan died at 1:14 p.m. Sunday, July 5, 1998 in his home.
Private family services were held in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan, and services will be held in the Hurley Funeral Home in Devine, Texas with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery in Devine.
Born March 14, 1918 in Bowie County, Texas, he was a son of Luther and Levie Abercombie Johns. He was a retired postal carrier in Devine and a member of the First Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge 590, both in Devine, and the Grand Lodge of Texas AF&AM. He married Freda M. Covington April 30, 1953 in Devine, and she survives.
Other survivors include daughters, Sandra Wood of Sullivan, Phylis Muennink of San Antonio, Texas and Tanya Patteson of Dallas, Texas; three brothers; four sisters; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
One brother and one sister preceded him in death.

Steven Woodson
Private military services for Steven Bert Woodson, 48, of Decatur will be held at a later date with burial at sea. The Bleitz Funeral Home in Seattle, Wash. is in charge of arrangements.
He died Friday, June 26, 1998 in the Bailey Boushay Home in Seattle.
Born June 21, 1950 in Jacksonville, he was a son of Harry H. and Olla M. Lawson Woodson. He was a Navy veteran, serving as a 2nd class sonar technician on the submarine USS Tunney.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Olla and Wayne Baker of Decatur; son, Vincent of St. Joseph, Mo.; brothers, Wayne Woodson of Georgetown and Terry Woodson of Dalton City; stepbrother, Bill Baker of Decatur; and stepsister, Mary Collins of Chatham.

Elmer Eckel
Weeden Elmer Eckel, 74, of Lovington died at 5 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2002 in the Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Mt. Zion.
Graveside services with military rites will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Keller Cemetery in Lovington with visitation one hour prior to the service in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Lovington.
Mr. Eckel was born July 7, 1928 in Clay County, the son of Lee Roy and Jennie Belle Wood Eckel. He was in the Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict, retired from Wagner Casting Company in Decatur after 19 1/2 years, a member of the Lovington American Legion for 50 years, member of the 40-8, member of the Moose Chapter 36 in Decatur and the Lovington Christian Church. He married Esther L. Fleischauer Aug. 18, 1951 in Lovington.
He is survived by his wife, Esther of Lovington; daughters, Linda Moore of Lovington and Betty Culp of Champaign; son, David Eckel of Lovington; brother, Duane Eckel of Bourbonnais; sister, Delores Hoakenstad of Pasco, Wash.; five grandchildren, Tina, Candy and Ken, all of Arizona, Heather of Champaign and Amanda of Lovington; seven great-grandchildren; and also a very special niece, Amber Grass of Kennwick, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
Memorials are suggested to the Lovington Ambulance Service or to the Lovington Christian Church.
He was a devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
