Vivian Sullivan
Funeral services for Mrs. Homer (Vivian Scheretz) Sullivan, 87, of Sullivan were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2002 in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan with the Rev. Dr. David Leslie officiating.
She died at 1 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2002 in her home.
She was born April 8, 1915 in Pittsburg, Ill., the daughter of Morton Calloway and Ada Mae Hayes Scheretz. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Sullivan, Naomi Circle of the First Christian Church in Sullivan and Order of the Eastern Star Crystal Chapter #39 in Sullivan. She married Homer E. Sullivan Aug. 31, 1940 in St. Charles, Mo., and he preceded her in death Dec. 25, 1995.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Thomas and husband Jim of Sullivan and Sharon Wiley and husband Jim of Bloomington; brother, Robert Scheretz of Rockford; sister, Gaynelle Jacobs of Herrin; grandchildren, Nicole Atchison of Sullivan, Michael Thomas of Woodstock; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother.
Memorials to the Elizabeth Titus Memorial Library, First Christian Church in Sullivan or Lincolnland Hospice are suggested.
Mrs. Rodney Mitchell
Services for Mrs. Rodney (Donella L. Shride) Mitchell, 39, of Windsor were held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) in the Howe & Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Burial was in the Henton Cemetery.
The former Westervelt resident died at 3:54 a.m. Sunday, June 9, 2002 in the Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana.
Born Jan. 12, 1963 in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Donald and Barbara Mose Shride. She was a homemaker and a 1981 graduate of Shelbyville High School. She was a member of the Henton Church of God. She married Rodney Wayne Mitchell Sept. 25, 1984, and he survives.
Other survivors include a son, Leo Wayne Mitchell of Windsor; daughter, Jessica Ann Mitchell of Windsor; her parents of Henton; brothers, Mike Shride of Lakewood and James Alan Shride of Bethany; and sisters, Mrs. David (Cheryl) Reider of Wabash, Ind. and Mrs. Allen (Susan) Wildman of Findlay.
One brother preceded her in death.

Evalyn Smith
Inurnment for Mrs. Everett (Evalyn F.) Smith, 93, of Seiad Valley, Cal. was in the Opdyke Cemetery in Opdyke, Ill. with the Girdner Funeral Home in Yreka, Cal. in charge of arrangements.
The former Sullivan resident died Monday, June 10, 2002 in her home.
Born Aug. 9, 1908 in Opdyke, she attended high school in Sullivan, the John Herron School of Art in Indianapolis, Ind. and the Chicago Academy of Fine Art. She operated her own art studio in Chicago in her early 20s and also worked for the 1933 Century of Progress Exposition in Chicago. Following her marriage she returned to Eastern Illinois State Teachers College (now EIU) and graduated in 1950. She then did graduate work at the University of Wisconsin, the University of Iowa and the University of Missouri.
She taught art in high school and college in Sullivan, Champaign and Centralia before retiring from teaching to care for her mother. She has been living with her son in Oakland, Ore. and Seiad Valley, Cal. since 1991. She married Everett N. Smith in 1940, and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Everett Smith of Seiad Valley, and one granddaughter.
Memorials to the Madrone Hospice in Yreka, Cal. are suggested.
Patsy Cochran
Patsy Ruth Cochran is at peace and without pain. She left us at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2003. born Jan. 16, 1927, she was 76 years old. She shared 57 years of her life with her husband, Don L. Cochran.
Services were held Monday, April 14, 2003 at the Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan. Burial was in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan.
Patsy was the daughter of Anne and Ralph Newton and Cass Kennedy. During her high school years, while her mother was studying to become a registered nurse, Patsy lived with her grandmother, Mary Ellen Hanrahan in Sullivan. She joined the First United Methodist Church, and this is where she met Don. They built their home next to her Grandmother Hanrahan, and she has lived in this home in Sullivan all her adult life.
Patsy retired from the Moultrie County Farm Bureau after 30 years of service. Most would have taken it easy, but not her. There was a group of farmers that had a vision of city water for the rural community. She coordinated that vision and when she retired 28 years later over 950 rural homes in Moultrie, Douglas and Shelby counties have city water and no longer depend on well water.
She is survived by her husband and her daughter Joanna (Jody) Koepke of Sullivan; half sisters, Jane (Lou) Wampsher of Havana, Shirley Setleck of Washington and Carolyn (Fred) Dewitt of Versailles; half brother, Royce (MaryAnn) Kennedy of Camp Lake, Wis.; also brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Nona Neal of Champaign, Leon and Janette Cochran of New Bern, N.C., Charlie and Melba Strong of Clermont, Fla., Eunice Cochran of Mercer Island, Wash. and Helen Yelvington of Mattoon. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, life-long friends, church friends and business associates.
She was preceded by her grandparents and parents, brother, Bobby Kennedy and her son Michael Kent Cochran. Also by brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Charolette Cochran, Lloyd Cochran, Dean and Nancy Cochran, Gail and Betty Cochran, Don and June Bolin, Katheryn Cochran, John Yelvington and Charles Setleck.
Patsy was a kind and generous person and a great lady. She will be missed.

Pauline Furry
Funeral services celebrating the life of Mrs. Kenneth (Pauline Helen Whetsell) Furry 84, of rural Sullivan were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Schilling Funeral Home with Robert Sitz, an elder in the Tuscola congregation officiating. Burial followed in the Dodge Grove Cemetery.
She passed away at 12:32 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2003 in her home.
Pauline was born July 13, 1918 in Mattoon, a daughter of Lewis John and Minnie Alice Strong Whetsell. Mrs. Furry was a homemaker and worked alongside her husband in their family business, C&F Machine Works in Mattoon, for 30 years. She was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses in Mattoon. She married R. Kenneth Furry on Jan. 11, 1936, and he passed away March 31, 2003.
Survivors include one son, R. Mike Furry and wife Donna of Deming, N.M.; three daughters, Hope Furry Stiles and Helen Truth “Trudy” Whitley, both of rural Sullivan, and Betty Patton Lovato of Veguita, N.M.; one brother, James W. Whetsell and wife Thelma of Mattoon; two sisters, Albertine Krause of Belleville and Betty L. Whetsell of Buffalo Grove; five grandchildren, Kenna Ray Montano of Atascadero, Cal., William Patton of Taylorville, James Patton of Belen, N.M., Karen Drake of Louisville, Ky. and Kenneth “Chuck” Whitley of Tucson, Ariz.; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Her parents, two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
Clara Henneberry
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Wayne (Clara Young) Henneberry, 93 of Kalamazoo, Mich. was held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) in the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Macon with Father Angel Sierra as the celebrant. Interment was in St. Isidore’s Cemetery in Bethany with the J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home in Decatur in charge of arrangements.
The former Lake City resident passed away Sunday, April 13, 2003 in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Clara was born June 29, 1909 in Macon, the daughter of Charles and Ida Matthew Young. She lived most of her life in Lake City and Clarence, Mo. where she farmed with her husband. In recent years she resided in Kalamazoo near her daughter.
She married Wayne Henneberry, and he preceded her in death in 1973.
Survivors include her five children, Mrs. Joseph (Diane) Kincad of Kalamazoo, Mrs. Herbert (Marilyn) Betz of Downers Grove, Mrs. Larry (Connie) Lowe of Baltimore, Md., Gary Henneberry and his wife Vicky of Mt. Holly, N.J. and Mrs. Vasile (Candace) Vezendan of Olathe, Kans.; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Henneberry of Decatur; 23 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, sons, Jerry in 1993 and Roger in 1998, and brothers, Lawrence, Raymond and Charles Jr., and sister, Helen Mowen.
Savannah Cobb
Savanna Cobb, infant daughter of Jason and Shannon Cobb of Daleville, Ala., was stillborn at 10:20 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2003 in the Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Ala.
A cremation memorial service will be held at a later date with the Byrd Funeral Home in Dothan in charge of arrangements.
Jason Cobb is a Mattoon police officer currently in military flight training at Ft. Rucker, Ala.
Survivors include her parents; grandparents, Robert and Cheryl Cobb and James and Linda Scheer, all of Sullivan; great-grandparents, Lucille Scheer of St. Peter, Imogene Williams of Mattoon and Gene and Margaret Williams, all of Mattoon, and Marvin and Myrtle Cobb of Clinton.
Mrs. Doug McCausland
A funeral Mass for Mrs. Doug (Laura Jane Gordon) McCausland, 42, of Bethany was held at 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday) in the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Penfield. Burial was in the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Penfield with the Lux Memorial Chapel in Rantoul in charge of arrangements.
The former Penfield resident died Sunday, April 13, 2003 in St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.
Born Feb. 27, 1961 in Urbana, she was the daughter of Harry and Marge Carpenter Gordon. She graduated from Armstrong High School in 1979 and was a child care provider for 11 years. She married Doug E. McCausland July 16, 1988 in Penfield, and he survives.
Other survivors include her parents; brothers, Michael Gordon of Champaign and Paul Gordon of Urbana; sisters, Patricia Knable of Madison, Wis. and Marcia Richards and Theresa O’Banion, both of Urbana.
One sister preceded her in death.

Thomas Pickle
Services for Thomas E. Pickle, 87, of Quincy were held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) in the Grace United Methodist Church in Quincy. Burial was at 3 p.m. in the Arthur Cemetery in Arthur.
He died at 9:10 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2003 in the Illinois Veterans Home
Born Oct. 2, 1915 in Moultrie County, he was the son of Edward and Grace Hollonbeck Pickle. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army in World War II and Korea, and he was one of the few survivors when the SS Leopoldville was torpedoed Dec. 24, 1944 in the English Channel. He was employed by Gardner Denver for over 30 years as a machinist until his retirement in 1978. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Herman Lodge #39 AF&AM and American Legion Post #37. He married Joye Wallace June 1, 1943 in St. Louis, Mo., and she preceded him in death Jan. 20, 1997.
Survivors include his son, Gary Pickle of Quincy; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Memorial contributions to the Grace United Methodist Church or the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. are suggested.
