John L. Gates Jr.
Age 77. At rest Friday March 1, 2002 peacefully at home surrounded by his family after courageous battle with cancer.
Survived by his loving wife of 56 years Mary L. Peterson. Devoted son John Gates and Loving Daughter Mary Lou (Bob) Gates Mahalik. One brother.
Born in Joliet.
Preceded in death by his parents John and Marie Gates.
Past employee of Blockson Chemical, retired from Uno Cal.
Because of John's love for animals, contributions to Will County Humane Society will be appreciated.
At John's request cremation rites were accorded.

Peter Genovese
Age 87, of Plainfield died Monday March 4, 2002 at his home after a long, courageous battle with ALS. He was born January 1, 1915 in Chicago.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rose (nee Presta); his daughters, Anita (William) Gerardy of Plainfield and Carole (Gary) Slaybaugh of Plainfield; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren; brothers, William (Anita) Genovese and Ernest Genovese. Many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews also survive.
Preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Angelina (nee Cavato); his sisters, Mary and Lillian; and his brothers, Joseph and Albert.
Peter was a resident of Plainfield and a member of St. Mary Immaculate Church for the past 13 years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to either the ALS Foundation, 8142 Lawndale Ave., Skokie, IL 60076 or to Rush Hospice Partners, 4415 West Harrison St. #403, Hillside, IL 60162. Visitation will be Thursday March 7 from 3-9 p.m. at the Overman-Jones Funeral Home, 309 Joliet Rd. (corner of routes 59 and 30), Plainfield, IL. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday March 8 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Immaculate Church, 129 S. Division St., Plainfield, IL. Entombment Assumption Cemetery, Wheaton. For info call 815-436-9221.

Roy A. Herman
Passed away at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center, Sunday, March 3, 2002. Age 42 years.
Survived by his wife of 25 years Leeann Sparks; four daughters, Marla, Monica, Mandi and Michelle Herman. A son, Matthew Herman. A granddaughter, Paige. His father, Frank Herman of Joliet. Three brothers, Donny, Mark and Frankie (Linda) Herman. Two sisters, Debbie (Rich Roach) Herman and AmyJo Herman, both of Springfield, IL. His faithful companion, Haley. Also survived by nieces, nephews and great-nieces.
Preceded in death by his mother, Wilma Herman (nee Randell) (1990). A son, Mark in infancy; two brothers, Randy Herman (2000) and John Herman (1998); a sister, Bonnie in infancy.
Employed as a machinist with Folger Adam Security Inc. in Lemont since 1978 and member of Local Union #179.
Funeral services will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Rd., Thursday, March 7 at 1:00 P.M.
Interment Elmhurst Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M.

Celeste B. Kinsella
Age 68. Passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2002 at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center. born in Joliet and a long time Joliet area resident, living in Minooka the past 27 years. Graduated from St. Patrick Grade School and St. Francis Academy High School in 1951; also attended Joliet Junior College. She worked for Argonne National Laboratory for ten years, currently semi-retired and working at Chicago Suburban Newspaper. She was a very loving and giving person to her family and friends. She will be loved and missed forever.
Preceded in death by her father, James G. Kinsella; mother, Bernice (nee O'Connor) Kinsella; her brother, Lawrence (Idann) Kinsella.
Survived by her loving sister, Marjorie J. Kinsella; her brother, Donald E. (Lou Ann) Kinsella; devoted aunt to her niece, MaryBeth (James) Larkin; special great-aunt to James Larkin Jr., Justin Larkin, Jeremy Larkin and great-niece, Jessica Larkin; special aunt to Donald (Julie) Kinsella, Hank (Sue) Gill, Matt (Annette) Kinsella, Todd (Laura) Kinsella, Mike Kinsella, Janice Selvy, Adam (Jennifer) Vitter, Lawrence (Julie) Kinsella, Scott (Daina) Kinsella, Doug (April) Kinsella and Jim Kinsella; loving great-aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Celeste B. Kinsella will be Thursday, March 7, 2002 at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment St. Mary Cemetery, Minooka. Age 76. At rest Monday, March 4, 2002, at her home with her family by her side.
Survived by her devoted and beloved husband of 52 years, Jack W. McCoskey. Loving Mother of Kathie (Gene) McNett and Jeffrey (Barb Nall). Dearest Grandmother of Steve (Jenny) McNett, Jennifer (fiance Rob Neighbors) McNett, Sarah, Joshua McCoskey and Janine Zorn. Sister, Genevieve (late Tom) Quinlan, Brother, John Beber. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by her parents, John and Johanna (nee Kockman) Beber.
Ann was born in Joliet and a lifelong resident. Member of St. Joseph Society #2 K.S.K.J.

Survived by his beloved wife of 52 years Alice M. (Nee) Buchar Minnick. Loving father of Calvin (Dorothy) Minnick Jr., Mary (Ron) Madding, Edward (Carolyn) Minnick, Mark Minnick, Sally (Tony) Orsini, Joan (Tom) McKenzie and James Minnick. Dearest grandfather of 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. One sister Peggy (Milton Deceased) Horchler. Four brothers George (Lucille Deceased), Arthur (Naomi Deceased), Glen and Carl Minnick. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded by his parents Frank P. and Jenny (Nee) George Minnick. One sister Flossie Lyons, one brother John Minnick and father and mother-in-law Joseph and Frances Buchar.
Calvin was born in Plainfield, resided most of his life time in Joliet. Retired 1980 from U.S. Steel after 35 years of service. Member Braidwood Recreation Club and was an avid fisherman. The family would like to thank all of Calvin's "Baby Dolls" and "Honeys" at the Joliet Oncology and Dr. Loutfi and Joliet Area Community Hospice for all the wonderful care.

Orestius V. Perilongo "Orris"
Age 84. March 2, 2002 at Silver Cross Hospital. Late of Lockport.
Survived by three sisters, Ethel (Joseph) Blahunka, Madeline (John, deceased) Glynn and Gloria (Robert, deceased) Derbick; a brother, Mario (Sally) Perilongo; 14 nieces and nephews; also survived by numerous great nieces and nephews.
Born in Lockport, he was a lifelong resident.
Preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Mary (Sartori) Perilongo.
Member St. Dennis Church, Knights of Columbus, Old Timers Baseball Association. Charter member of Lockport Moose Lodge #1557. He was an avid photographer and sports enthusiast.
Family will receive friends at the Goodale Memorial Chapel, 912 S. Hamilton St., Thursday 3-8:00 P.M. Services will be Friday, March 8, 2002 at 9:30 A.M. to St. Dennis Church for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. Interment Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the St. Dennis Educational Endowment Fund would be appreciated.

Passed away at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center, Saturday, March 2, 2002. Age 55 years.
Survived by his wife of 29 years, Susan L. Phillips (nee Clark) of Shorewood. Three daughters, Cari (David) Blankenship of O'Fallon, IL, Julie (Robert) Hogg and Sarah Phillips, both of Shorewood. Two sons, Mark (Erica-fiance) Phillips and Matthew Phillips, both of Shorewood. Six grandchildren, Drew, William and Grace Blankenship, Brett, Cailyn and Taylor Hogg. His mother, Merla I. Phillips (nee Pattison) of Joliet. Three sisters, Sharon Lentz of Dallas, TX, Roseann (Michael) Hall of Springfield, MO, and Marilyn (Jeff) Smothers of Washinton, IA. Three brothers, David (Denise) Phillips of Joliet, Steve (Donna) Phillips of Pacific, MO, and John (Maria) Phillips of Joliet. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his father, Harry G. Phillips (1995).
Born in Joliet and was a lifelong Joliet-Rockdale resident. Graduate of Joliet Township High School West Campus. Member of Hope Lutheran Church. Former umpire for the Joliet Park District Slow and Fast Pitch Softball. Bowled with the Steel Mill Bowling League. Al was employed with Dayco Tool Co. in North Aurora, formerly employed with U.S. Steel and Crain Valve in Romeoville.
Lying in State at Hope Lutheran Church, 305 Black Rd., Shorewood, Wednesday from 9:30 AM until services at 10:30 AM. Rev. George Klima officiating. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Rd., TUESDAY from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
