SANDRA L. CARROL
Sandra L. Carrol, 58, of Necedah, Wis., formerly of Kaneville, Ill., died unexpectedly Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Hess Memorial Hospital in Mauston, Wis., where she had recently been admitted for respiratory complications.
Born Jan. 1, 1945, in Aurora, she was the daughter of LaVerne "Bud" and Charlene (Wood) Ritchey. "Sandy" grew up in the Kaneville area where she graduated from Kaneville High School and went on to live and work in the area most of her life.
For many years she was employed as a secretary and office manager at Wilson Security in Sugar Grove. She also devoted many hours of her secretarial skills at the Kaneville United Methodist Church, where she was a member for a number of years.
Sandy earned an associate's degree in accounting at Waubonsee Community College and, for a time, operated "Sandy's Secretarial Services," providing independent bookkeeping and secretarial service for area individuals and businesses.
On April 6, 1974, she was united in marriage to Larry Carrol, and they made their home in Kaneville. Following his sudden death in 1989, Sandy continued to make her home in Kaneville until 1992, when she moved to Necedah. There, the same secretarial skills and generous heart that served the Kaneland community found a home. Sandy was a member of Necedah United Methodist Church and worked as church secretary at the New Lisbon United Methodist Church. When ill health forced her to retire, she continued to work part-time as bartender and waitress at the Necedah Road House Restaurant. Though she was small in stature and outgoing by nature, Sandy was strong-willed; the occasional antagonistic customer found her a formidable host when necessary.
In addition to her church memberships, Sandy also was a member of the Juno County Moose Lodge Chapter 1993 and Sugar Grove American Legion Post 1271 Auxiliary.
She is survived by two daughters and their families, Dana Capes and daughters, Charlene and Natasha, of Maple Park and Dawn (Keith) McLaughlin and children, Jeffrey, Charles, Kevin, Kyle and Katie, of Millington; a brother, Ron (April) Ritchey of Elburn; a sister, Sharon (Gene) Nier of Elburn; a niece, Kelly Ritchey; a nephew, Steve Nier; as well as many other relatives, friends and classmates with whom she kept in touch through the years.
In addition, she leaves a rainbow of memories among family and friends who will always remember the Sandy who loved fishing, gave generously to her grandchildren's sweet tooth and gave a hard time to folks for whom she really had a soft touch. In the end, she leaves, in fact, her heart and other tissues given freely as an organ donor that someone else might live to enjoy this life as much as she did.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Larry Carrol.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St. in Elburn with the Rev. Ric Mantagnon, pastor of Kaneville United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Kaneville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at the funeral home.
