JOHN J. HELLER
John J. Heller, 90, of Sycamore, Ill., died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb.
Born June 20, 1913, in Chicago, he was the son of James and Martha H. (Schmock) Heller.
John worked for 45 years with Nehring Electrical Works as a machine operator, and then as a supervisor. John lived in the DeKalb and Sycamore area most of his life.
He is survived by a sister, Marie (Pierce) Maher of Florida; a niece, Kathleen (Kenneth) Hermach; three nephews, Robert (Dode) Gregorio, Ronald (Kathy) Maher and Pierre Maher; several great-nieces and -nephews; and great-great-nieces and -nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Grace Gregorio; and a brother, Frank.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, at Ronan-Moore-Finch Funeral Home in DeKalb, with Father Kenneth Anderson officiating. Private burial will be at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association.
Arrangements were entrusted to Ronan-Moore-Finch Funeral Home, 310 Oak St., DeKalb, IL 60115.

E. DONALD LYONS
E. Donald Lyons, 76, of DeKalb, Ill., passed away Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.
Born March 23, 1927, in DeKalb, he was the son of Everett B. and Jessie McDonald (Younger) Lyons. He first married Betty Jean Jacox on Feb. 17, 1951, in DeKalb, and later married Mary Worrell on Nov. 17, 1984, in DeKalb.
Don was a 1945 graduate of DeKalb High School and attended Northern Illinois University for two years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy in the Philippines. He was employed at Johnson Printing in DeKalb for more than 30 years and later at NIU for seven years. Don was a member of the First Lutheran Church in DeKalb, DeKalb Elks 756 and NIU Huskie Club. He was an avid bowler and will be inducted into the International Bowling Museum Hall of Fame this spring. Don was always involved in sports and was a DeKalb Little League and Pony League coach for several years.
He is survived by four children, Gary (Michele) Lyons of Holland, Mich., Karen (Tim) McGrath of Marseilles, Susan (Craig) Mielke of Batavia and Cheryl (Jerry) Paulson of DeKalb; two stepsons, James (Evelyn) Worrell of DeKalb and Jan (Liz) Worrell of Waukesha, Wis.; three grandchildren, Wendy Benad of DeKalb and Samantha and Kaylie McGrath of Marseilles; three step-grandchildren, Crystal Worrell of Waterman, Jennifer (Jamie) Rybarczyk of Milwaukee and Mike (Heather) Worrell with the U.S. Navy in Pensacola, Fla.; a step-great-granddaughter, Madison Worrell; a sister, Shirley (Glenn) Harris of Buffalo Grove; a sister-in-law, Marlene Lyon of Cortland; several nieces and nephews; and his loving companion, Lu Lothson of DeKalb.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Jean, in 1982; and his second wife, Mary, in 2003.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at First Lutheran Church in DeKalb, with the Rev. Marilyn G. Hanson officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb.
A memorial is being established for E. Donald Lyons in care of Anderson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 605, 2011 S. Fourth St., DeKalb, IL 60115.

MERVIN L. 'SLIM' KITTLESON
Mervin L. "Slim" Kittleson, 82, of DeKalb, Ill., passed away Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb.
Born Nov. 10, 1921, in Creston, he was the son of Mylo L. and Lillie Mae (Johnson) Kittleson. He married Edythe O. Hall on Nov. 25, 1945, in Creston, and later married Margaret E. Mihm on Nov. 3, 1985, in DeKalb.
Slim was formerly employed by Wurlitzer Piano Mfg. in DeKalb for several years before he became the owner and operator of Bross & Kittleson Standard Service Station in DeKalb for 33 years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in DeKalb, DeKalb Elks 765, the Tebala Shrine, American Legion Post 66 and Indian Oaks Country Club, and a former member of the Sons of Norway.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret "Marge"; two daughters, Kayla Jo Kittleson and Mary Lou (Paul) Letheby, both of DeKalb; two grandchildren, Justin Letheby of DeKalb and Shannon Letheby of Chicago; two sisters, Betty (James) Arends of DeKalb and Marilyn (Ralph) Magnuson of Sycamore; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Edythe, in 1984; a daughter, Corinne; and his parents.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at First Lutheran Church in DeKalb, with the Rev. Marilyn G. Hanson officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in rural Lee. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb, with a Masonic service at 8 p.m.
A memorial is being established for Mervin L. "Slim" Kittleson in care of Anderson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 605, 2011 S. Fourth St., DeKalb, IL 60115.

ESSIE 'MAE' (NANNI) WILSON
Essie "Mae" (Nanni) Wilson, 70, of Sycamore, Ill., died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb.
Born Feb. 24, 1933, in Sunflower, Miss., she was the daughter of James and Pinkie (Redd) Bailey. She married Eddie L. Wilson Sr. in 1949 in Greenville, Miss.
Essie was a faithful member and advocate servant of the North Avenue Baptist Church in Sycamore, where she held various church offices and was a usher for more than 25 years. She was the Mother of the Church. Essie was truly a pillar of the Sycamore community.
She is survived by four sons, George (Wendy) Wilson of Elgin, Eddie Wilson Jr. and Milton (Peggy) Wilson, both of Sycamore, and Robert Wilson of Lincoln, Neb.; five daughters, Doris Townsend of Madison, Wis., Debra Wilson of Chicago, Janice (Tony) Jones of Chicago, and Kimmi and Ikina Wilson, both of Sycamore; 21 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Henry Bailey of Oakland, Calif., and Robert Bailey of Sycamore; four sisters, Dorothy (the Rev. Gus) Walker of Columbus, Miss., Versena (Deacon David) Chapman of Sycamore, Georgia M. Long of St. Louis, Mo., and Mary Bailey of Sycamore; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eddie Wilson Sr.; a daughter, Catherine Hammond; three brothers and two sisters.
The funeral service will be held at noon Saturday, Feb. 14, at First Baptist Church, at 530 W. State St. in Sycamore. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Sycamore. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at the church.
Arrangements were completed by the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory in Sycamore.

ANGELA M. (BURTCH) NICHOLS
Angela Marie (Burtch) Nichols, 30, of DeKalb, Ill., died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at home with her family and loved ones beside her.
She is survived by a daughter, Shaunna Burtch of Cortland; two sons, Devon Nichols of Mississippi and Anthony Moore of Malta; her mother, Dorothy (Jim) Thies of Cortland; a brother, Jason (fiancée, Shannon Harper) Burtch of Sycamore; her grandmother, Millie Burtch of DeKalb; her boyfriend, Victor Cavazos of DeKalb; and her godparents, Mary Ruiz of DeKalb and Vincent Perez.
The graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb, with a service at 8 p.m.
A memorial is being established for Angela in care of Anderson Funeral Home.

CARL G. HJELMBERG
Carl Gustave Hjelmberg, 85, of Sycamore, Ill., died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at his home.
Born Feb. 28, 1918, in Chicago, he was the son of Karl Victor Hjelmberg and Beda (Larson) Hjelmberg. He married Donna Ruth Coe on March 3, 1941, in Clinton, Iowa. He was an area farmer and a retired truck driver for Floit Ready Mix Concrete Co.
He was a member of Mayfield Congregational Church and DeKalb County Farm Bureau.
He is survived by two sons, Ronald Hjelmberg of Sycamore and Kevin Hjelmberg of Lynchburg, Va.; four grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 1998; two brothers, Henry and Bertil Hjelmberg; two sisters, Julia Malner and Helen Gilchrist; and a foster daughter, Ruth Ann Terzo.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at Quiram-Sycamore Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mary Gay McKinney officiating. Interment will be at Lily Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at the funeral home.
A memorial fund is established in care of Quiram-Sycamore Funeral Home, 1245 Somonauk St., Sycamore, IL 60178.

JUNE G. O'NEAL
June G. O'Neal, 76, of Sycamore, Ill., formerly of Wheaton, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at Highland Park Hospital.
She was born June 10, 1927, in Bronx, N.Y. She was a homemaker who enjoyed painting, bowling and gardening. She loved to walk her dog, Taffy.
She is survived by six children, John (Deirdre) O'Neal of Naperville, Susan O'Neal of Littleton, Colo., Michael O'Neal of Alpharetta, Ga., Bruce (Kim) O'Neal of Wheaton, Daniel (Stephanie) O'Neal of Wayne and Carol (Doug) O'Neal of Denver, Colo.; and 17 grandchildren.
A private funeral service will be held at The Leonard Memorial Home Ltd., 3S532 Batavia Road in Warrenville.

RONALD J. SORRENTINO
Ronald J. Sorrentino, 64, of Rochelle, Ill., died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at Rockford Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Born Sept. 30, 1939, in Pennsylvania, he was the son of Pasquele and Carmela Sorrentino. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus of which he was a former Grand Knight. Before moving to the Rochelle area and working in the building trades, he had been a police officer in Philadelphia and rural Kentucky.
He is survived by a sister, Dorothy Powell, a brother, Francis Sorrentino, and nieces and nephews, all of Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Connie Tilley.
The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Father David Peck at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at St. Patrick Church at Kelley Drive and Caron Road in Rochelle. Interment will be in Pennsylvania.
A memorial has been established for St. Patrick Church.

CAROLE F. (MANTEL) PALMER
Carole F. (Mantel) Palmer, 71, of Wheaton, Ill., formerly of DeKalb, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield.

LEO CARL POPE
Leo Carl Pope, 92, of Waterman, Ill., formerly of Joliet, passed away Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at Shabbona Health Care Center.
Born April 10, 1911, in Pana, he was the son of Charles Amos and Nancy Ann (Devor) Pope. Leo married Dorothy Findlay on Oct. 18, 1935, in Bloomington. Leo retired in 1973 from Texaco Refinery in Lockport after 44 years of service.
Leo and Dorothy moved to Waterman in 1975 from Joliet. Leo was an avid lifetime fisherman; enjoyed music, playing the accordion, woodworking and gardening; and was a car enthusiast. Leo was a member of St. James Catholic Church, AARP and Trinity School's Parents' Club, and enjoyed visiting with family and friends.
He is survived by a son, Richard L. Pope of Joliet; three grandchildren, Theresa (Chris) Galounis, Lisa (Rick) Herron and Ray Pope, all of Joliet; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Georgia Hill of Shelbyville; a brother, Ray Pope of Holly Hill, Fla.; five brothers- and sisters-in-law, Nadine Findlay of Lockport, Jean Findlay of Bolingbrook, Raymond (Judy) Findlay of Waterman, and Bernice (Bill) Book and Vernon "Bunk" (Ada) Findlay, both of Plainfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, in 1994; a daughter, Katherine Pope, in 1991; his parents; three sisters, Alma, Velva and Annabel; five brothers, Paul, Art, Otto, Perley and Marvin; two nephews, Jack Findlay and Wayne Howell; and several brothers-in-law.
The funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at St. James Catholic Church in Lee, with Fr. William Virtue officiating. Burial will follow at St. James Calvary Cemetery in Lee. Friends may call from 9:30-11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
A memorial is being established for Leo C. Pope for St. James Catholic Church or DeKalb County Hospice in care of Anderson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 605, 2011 S. Fourth St., DeKalb, IL 60115.
